Organised by the Tawang District Sports Association (TDSA) with support from Durex – The Birds and Bees Talk and other sponsors, the league is being held under the theme “One League, One Dream, One Monyul.”

The eight participating teams are Khalaktang Rupa FC, Mon Dirang FC, Thrizino Buragaon FC, Tawang United FC, Dhagpa Pangchhen United, Bomdila FC, Rhebla Gangsum FC and Shyo Sporting Club. Four teams each are from Tawang and West Kameng, providing a competitive platform for footballers from across the Monyul region.

The inaugural ceremony was attended by Padma Shri H.E. the 14th Thegtse Rinpoche, President of the Himalayan Buddhist Council of Nalanda Traditions, as Chief Guest. MLA Tawang Namgey Tsering, Special Secretary (Sports) Akshat Kaushal, IPS, and Deputy Commissioner Tawang Namgyal Angmo, IAS, attended as Guests of Honour.

Among other dignitaries present were Superintendent of Police Tawang Tasi Darang, ZPM Tawang Sonam Nordzin, ZPM Kyidphel Tenzin Monpa, Monpa Mimang Tsogpa Vice President Pema Chowang, senior district administration officials, public leaders and sports enthusiasts.

The inaugural programme began with a tribute to Late Sang Phuntsok, IAS (Retd.), in remembrance of his service and contribution.

District Sports Officer-cum-Competition Director Sange Tsering said the Monyul Super League had emerged as an important platform for identifying, encouraging and nurturing young sporting talent in the region. He highlighted the efforts of the TDSA towards promoting and developing sports in Tawang district.

Tsering also appreciated team owners and managers for encouraging young people to take up sports and expressed hope that the league would eventually grow beyond a football competition into a wider movement promoting discipline, teamwork and all-round development among youth.

Speaking at the inaugural programme, Special Secretary (Sports) Akshat Kaushal, IPS, highlighted the unifying power of sports, observing that people from different communities and parts of the country could come together through sporting activities.

Kaushal also referred to the Tawang Marathon 2026 theme song, launched during the occasion, and encouraged people to participate in the upcoming marathon.

The gathering also featured a musical performance by Arunachal Idol winner Tsering Samdrup.

In his inaugural address, Thegtse Rinpoche blessed the players and wished all participating teams success. He expressed appreciation for the enthusiasm of young participants and the development of sporting infrastructure in Tawang, noting that youth from the region were progressing alongside their counterparts elsewhere.

He also appreciated the organisers for providing a constructive platform for youth engagement.

The inaugural ceremony was followed by the opening match between Khalaktang Rupa FC and Shyo Sporting Club. After 90 minutes of competitive football, Shyo Sporting Club emerged victorious with a 3–2 win.

The Monyul Super League, through its theme “One League, One Dream, One Monyul,” aims not only to promote sporting excellence but also to strengthen unity, friendship and a shared identity among young people across the Monyul region.

The international event was organised under the theme “Honoring Leaders. Inspiring Excellence. Shaping the Future” and brought together prominent leaders, academics, entrepreneurs, business personalities and distinguished guests from several countries.

In his keynote address, Prof Dr Divakaran emphasised the importance of value-driven leadership, responsibility, integrity and service to society. He said true leadership should be measured not merely by position or achievement but by the positive impact created for people and society.

He also highlighted the role of education and academic institutions in nurturing responsible leaders, while stressing their contribution to international understanding, cultural exchange and peaceful cooperation.

The gathering was attended by several international personalities, including Dr Nishi Malhotra of the United Kingdom, a noted singer, whose participation added a cultural dimension to the event.

The programme was organised by D&G Holiday Thailand Co Ltd, represented by Parwee Jaipinta (Danny Boss), in collaboration with Phoenix Global Gold, with international representatives and partners participating in the event.

Prof Dr Divakaran’s participation and keynote address provided an international platform for Himalayan University and Arunachal Pradesh, highlighting the role of the State’s academic leadership in global discussions on leadership, education, cultural exchange and peace.

The organisers congratulated the award recipients and expressed appreciation to the international delegates and distinguished guests for their contribution to the success of the programme.

The organisers also announced plans to continue the initiative with the Thailand International Leadership Award 2027.

Mein made the appeal while participating in the second edition of Nadi Utsav in Namsai, an initiative focused on the conservation of rivers, aquatic flora and fauna, and the biodiversity that sustains the region’s natural ecosystems.

Emphasising the ecological importance of rivers and streams, the Deputy Chief Minister said they are not merely sources of water but living ecosystems supporting diverse forms of life. He also highlighted their close links with the region’s history, culture and traditions.

Mein said the lifestyle of tribal communities has historically been deeply connected with nature and stressed the need to protect and conserve both water and forest resources.

He called for collective action to conserve biodiversity, prevent illegal fishing and hunting, and rejuvenate streams and other water bodies.

Describing Nadi Utsav as a humble beginning, Mein said the initiative reflected the vision and guidance of Prime Minister Narendra Modi towards rejuvenating and strengthening ecosystems. He expressed confidence that increased public participation would allow the festival to expand and be organised on a larger scale in the coming years.

The culmination of the festival at TaKonmu, also known as Tungnamphi at Noichenam (Tengapani), carries particular cultural and historical significance. According to the event note, the sacred site has long been associated with the Tai Khamti community as a place of worship and prayer, as well as a historic route for trade and barter with Sadiya.

Mein stressed that conservation should extend beyond protecting the natural environment to include the preservation of cultural heritage, traditions and historical connections that have developed alongside the region’s rivers and waterways.

He urged stakeholders and local communities to work together to safeguard the region’s rivers, aquatic biodiversity and cultural heritage for future generations.

The event was attended by ZPC Namsai Chau Sujana Namchoom, DC Namsai Lobsang Tsering, monks, community leaders and youths, among others.

In a statement, the PAA described Tsering as a respected Divyangjan artist and sports promoter and highlighted his personal journey, determination and continued association with public and sporting activities.

According to the association, his journey reflects a commitment to promoting the abilities, aspirations and potential of persons with disabilities, while also carrying a broader message of inclusion and equal opportunity.

The PAA said Tsering’s experience could bring a valuable perspective to the development and promotion of para-athletes and Para Sports across Arunachal Pradesh. His appointment comes at a time when the association expects para athletics in the state to expand further.

The association expressed hope that his leadership would place greater emphasis on grassroots talent identification, athlete development, professional coaching, training opportunities and participation in national and international competitions.

It also said stronger leadership and sporting opportunities could encourage more persons with disabilities to take up sports and regard sporting participation as a pathway towards confidence, recognition, empowerment and sporting excellence.

The Paralympic Association of Arunachal said it looks forward to working closely with Tsering and the Arunachal Pradesh Para Athletics Association to strengthen the para-sports movement across the state and create a stronger pathway for aspiring para-athletes.

The PAA conveyed its best wishes to Tsering for a successful and impactful tenure, expressing confidence that his leadership would help open new opportunities and contribute to a brighter future for para-athletes in Arunachal Pradesh.

Organised by the Jajinja Society, a collective of members from different tribes of Arunachal Pradesh working towards the discourse, documentation and promotion of ancestral heritage, the event was held under the theme “Prakrati, Purvaj aur Pragya: Dialogues on Nature, Ancestral Wisdom and Indigenous Worldviews.”

The programme was structured around the central idea “A Dialogue for Understanding, A Discussion for Tomorrow”, with discussions focusing on nature as the first teacher, ancestors as guiding roots and indigenous philosophy as a living knowledge system.

Tapi Darang, MLA Pasighat East, attended the programme as a guest and spoke about the significance of the Solung festival and its philosophical values. He emphasised the need to preserve indigenous knowledge and traditions and appreciated Team Jajinja for creating a platform for dialogue.

The gathering was also attended by Kamin Lego, Deputy Chief Councillor; Oson Taying, Acting General Secretary of Adi Bane Kebang; Takeng Tamuk, Member Secretary of the Academic Board of Adi Agom Kebang; professors of Jawaharlal Nehru College, Pasighat; and faculty and students of Arunachal Pradesh University, including Assistant Registrar Likha Rinchin. Members of like-minded groups and the Adi community also participated.

The programme opened with a Nyishi folksong on Abotani, presented by Debia Metung, Taba Madam and Tana Jumpi.

The first session was anchored by Nanang Yirang, Literary Secretary of Jajinja, while Vice Chairperson Tao Azu delivered the welcome address. Treasurer Yage Kabak subsequently presented an overview of the society and its work.

A panel discussion on “Faith, Traditions and Community Perspectives” featured Gindu Borang, Principal of Jawaharlal Nehru College, Pasighat, and Debaang Tayeng, SE, Water Resources Department and Secretary General of Donyi Polo Yelam Kebang. The discussion was moderated by Chairperson Joram Yalam Nabam.

The session also featured a talk by Kaling Borang on the philosophy and cultural significance of Solung A’bang, highlighting the role of traditional knowledge and cultural narratives in understanding indigenous worldviews.

The second session focused on oral traditions, with Jajinja Assistant Treasurer Kago Mado presenting an Apatani story narration, followed by Gorik Ete, Cultural Secretary, who presented Galo riddles and proverbs.

The programme concluded with a vote of thanks delivered by General Secretary Ing Perme.

The third edition of Jajinja was supported by Tapi Darang, Oson Taying, Ajing Resort owned by Kamin Modi and Bomken Tayeng, ZPM Mebo Banggo-II.

The event highlighted the importance of creating spaces where traditional knowledge, oral histories and indigenous philosophies can be discussed, documented and passed on to future generations.

The operation was jointly launched by the Assam Rifles’ Khonsa and Longding Battalions, the Army and Arunachal Pradesh Police in the Votnu area. The security forces apprehended one individual identified in the release as Pigang Gangsa, 30, a resident of Votnu, who was described as a self-styled lieutenant of NSCN-K (Ang Mai).

According to the release, the operation resulted in the recovery of one 7.65 mm pistol, one magazine and six live rounds from the apprehended individual.

The apprehended individual, along with the recovered items, was subsequently handed over to the Arunachal Pradesh Police for further investigation and legal proceedings.

The Assam Rifles described the operation as reflecting the force’s operational capability and professional coordination with the Army and Arunachal Pradesh Police.

The joint action, according to the release, underscores continued coordination among security agencies in the region in efforts aimed at maintaining peace, security and stability.

Further details regarding the circumstances of the apprehension and any charges arising from the recovery were not provided in the press release.

The delegation, led by AAPSU President Meje Taku, submitted a representation drawing attention to the reported situation along the strategic frontier and apprised the Governor of concerns expressed by border communities regarding security and the geopolitical situation in the remote border sector.

The delegation also highlighted the need for greater government attention to Taksing and adjoining border areas, particularly in terms of infrastructure, connectivity and basic facilities for residents.

The representatives stressed that improving roads, connectivity and essential services is important for the welfare of people living in the frontier region, while also underlining the strategic significance of maintaining continued government attention and presence in remote border areas.

The delegation urged the Governor to take note of the concerns of the local population and support appropriate measures for both border security and regional development.

According to the delegation, the Governor received the representation positively and assured the members that he would actively pursue the issues raised. He further assured the delegation that the frontier security concerns would be taken up with the Union Defence Minister, Ministry of External Affairs (MEA) and senior military officials at the earliest.

The meeting brought together concerns relating to both the security of the Taksing-Gelimo frontier and the welfare of its border population. The delegation reiterated that the safety of border communities, demographic security and territorial integrity of Arunachal Pradesh remain paramount.

The representatives expressed confidence in the Governor’s assurance and called for sustained attention to the region’s security, infrastructure and development needs.

Mein was speaking at the first-ever Leyi Banggo Central Solung Giidi Celebration 2026, held at the GPS General Playground, also known as Leyi Bango Dolung Akngo, under Ruksin Circle in East Siang district. The event brought together community elders, leaders, youth and cultural practitioners to celebrate the Leyi Banggo community’s traditions, music, dance, oral literature and collective heritage.

Addressing the gathering, Mein said modernisation and globalisation were creating new opportunities, but communities must remain connected to their cultural roots. He emphasised the need to document indigenous languages, oral literature, traditional knowledge, songs, stories and cultural practices using modern technology so they remain accessible to future generations.

He also suggested that, if necessary, additional teachers’ posts could be created for teaching local dialects to help preserve and promote indigenous languages.

“We should never lose our spirit and our roots,” Mein said, while noting that globalisation had not taught communities to preserve their traditions.

The Deputy Chief Minister particularly urged young people to take a leading role in cultural preservation. Appreciating the creativity of local youth in producing music, videos and other digital content, he said modern platforms could become important tools for preserving and promoting indigenous heritage.

He stressed that oral traditions were especially vulnerable to being forgotten because they have traditionally been transmitted from one generation to another. He therefore called for the creation of audio-visual archives of indigenous systems, songs, stories, oral literature and traditional knowledge.

Mein also highlighted the importance of systematically documenting indigenous knowledge and traditional systems, including traditional healing practices, so that knowledge accumulated over generations is not lost.

Underscoring the broader significance of cultural preservation, Mein said development could not be measured only through infrastructure.

“Culture is our way of living, and our development must preserve our way of life and identity,” he said.

He further said Arunachal Pradesh’s journey towards becoming a developed State, as well as India’s journey towards becoming a developed nation, must remain inclusive of all communities, languages and cultural identities. He stressed that every community, regardless of its population, has an important place in the larger development journey.

Mein also called for stronger indigenous cultural institutions and platforms, emphasising that government initiatives and community participation must work together to protect and promote Arunachal Pradesh’s diverse cultural heritage.

On relations with neighbouring communities, the Deputy Chief Minister stressed the importance of maintaining cordial ties. Referring to long-standing cultural, social, economic and matrimonial relations with neighbouring Assam, he said such relationships should be preserved and strengthened.

He also cautioned against misuse of social media, saying it should not become a platform for quarrels, disputes or personal attacks. Instead, he urged people to use social media responsibly to promote healthy dialogue, mutual respect, understanding and constructive exchange of ideas.

Mein also assured the people of Leyi Banggo that he would look into their demand for creation of a separate administrative circle covering five villages—Depi, Moli, Detak, Debing and Poplung. He said the demand would be placed before the Cabinet for consideration.

The Deputy Chief Minister extended greetings to the people of Leyi Banggo and all those celebrating Solung, expressing hope that the annual gathering would develop into a strong and enduring platform for cultural preservation, community unity and the transmission of indigenous traditions across generations.

The celebration was attended by Minister for Rural Development and Panchayati Raj Ojing Tasing, Eastern Parliamentary Constituency MP Tapir Gao, MLAs Ninong Ering, Tojir Kadu and Tapi Darang, BJP President Kaling Moyong, ABK (Apex) President Tanon Tatak, former MLA Tatung Jamoh, ZPC East Siang and Lower Siang, and others.

The day-long programme featured traditional and cultural presentations, including Nene-Ponung by Ponung Mimum, performances by Kenna-Tarem and her party, and presentations by renowned singers Mary Dalbong and Dev Taid, among others.

The award ceremony in Itanagar was attended by Education Minister P.D. Sona, Advisor to the Education Minister Mutchu Mithi, senior officials of the Education Department, teachers, students and parents. Khandu congratulated the awardees and acknowledged the contribution of their parents, families, teachers and friends to their academic achievements.

A total of 30 State-level toppers from Classes III to XII were felicitated at the ceremony, while approximately 840 students have received the award at district levels. The Golden Jubilee Meritorious Students Award was instituted in 2022, and its implementation began from the academic year 2023-24. The 2024-25 edition is the second State-level ceremony, while the 2025-26 edition is scheduled to be conducted during the current year.

Addressing the students, Khandu highlighted the State Government’s ongoing efforts to improve the quality and effectiveness of government schools through implementation of the National Education Policy (NEP) 2020 and Mission Shikshit Arunachal, with the State targeting achievement of the mission’s objectives by 2029.

He said a task force had been constituted for implementing NEP 2020, followed by consultations with community-based organisations and other stakeholders. Education officials have also undertaken consultations at the district level, following which a comprehensive roadmap has been prepared.

The Chief Minister said the Government is rationalising the number of schools while strengthening the Inter-Village (IV) school model, with greater emphasis on infrastructure and adequate availability of teachers, particularly subject teachers. He added that significant recruitment of subject teachers through the State Public Service Commission had already been undertaken to strengthen government schools.

Khandu also pointed to an encouraging increase in enrolment in government schools in recent years, describing the trend as significant at a time when declining enrolment in government schools remains a challenge in many parts of the country.

Beyond academic performance, the Chief Minister stressed the importance of discipline, respect for parents and teachers, academic excellence and physical fitness in the overall development of students. Referring to Arunachal Pradesh’s tribal traditions, he urged young people to preserve the culture of respecting parents, elders, teachers and other members of the school community.

He also called for sports to receive equal importance alongside academics, saying physical activity is essential for the overall development of young people. He noted that playgrounds have been provided in government schools across the State.

Khandu further outlined the range of career opportunities available to Arunachal’s youth, including government service, the private sector, entrepreneurship, startups and emerging fields. He mentioned the Arunachal Pradesh Staff Selection Board, APPSC, UPSC and multinational companies as avenues for professional growth, while encouraging students to also consider entrepreneurship and business.

The Chief Minister also highlighted efforts to encourage more Arunachali youth to join the Armed Forces as officers. He referred to the establishment of the State’s first Sainik School at Pasighat in collaboration with the Government of India and a second Sainik School at Tawang under the PPP mode.

He said the State Government is working with the Army to establish a structured coaching mechanism for selected Arunachal students preparing for competitive examinations such as NDA and CDS. The proposed initiative is intended to support young people seeking officer-level careers in the Army, Navy, Air Force and Central Armed Police Forces.

Khandu also highlighted efforts to provide global higher-education exposure to Arunachal students. He said the State is supporting students who secure admission to universities ranked among the top 150 globally under QS rankings. The scholarship initiative, available to students after Class XII, has benefited around 13-14 Arunachali students this year, according to the Chief Minister.

Sharing his own experience, Khandu said he was also a product of the government school system and therefore understood the challenges and ecosystem of government schools. He recalled studying at Government Gompa Middle School in Tawang, where he was part of the first batch after the institution was upgraded to a secondary school.

The award ceremony thus combined recognition of academic achievement with a broader message on education reform, career opportunities and holistic development. The government’s emphasis, as outlined by the Chief Minister, is not limited to academic performance but also includes skills, physical fitness, discipline, entrepreneurship and wider opportunities for Arunachal’s young population.
