Loads of cool stuff coming to close out 2023 from Titan Comics, including hit series’ like Conan and Robotech.

Holiday-time reading

Really nothing on Titan Comics’ December launch calendar is ‘holiday’ or Christmas themed, so let’s get that out of the way first. Nevertheless though, it’s always great to have something to read to give you a bit of a break in that sometimes crazy season. And in that way, Titan Comics has a pretty nice roster of stuff on the way.

As usual with the publisher, December’s collection of titles include a little of everything. Comics fans can look for single issues of stuff like the current Conan and Life is Strange series’, but also graphic novels like Robotech: Rick Hunter and The Cold Everafter. Want manga? Then you might want to check out Tengen Hero Wars. Wanna flip through a magazine or two? Then take a peek at Star Wars Insider.

Heck, there’s even a few books you might want to check out, that stars the fan-favorite Ultraman license, and the hotly-anticipated Rebel Moon. Scroll down to check out the full listing.

San Diego Comic Con might not be happening, but the former-exclusives keep on coming. Icon Heroes has revealed their latest, a Robotech Battloid.

Defending humanity

The weirdest year in the history of the SDCC (and almost everything else too) continues. With the show cancelled in the face of coronavirus, companies have been revealing their planned exclusives, and selling them online.

Icon Heroes’ offerings have been pretty cool thus far, and their latest might be their best yet. It’s a Robotech Battloid statue, and it’s limited to just 50 pieces.

Icon Heroes presents the San Diego Comic Con Exclusive Robotech VF-1J Stealth Battloid 1/42 Scale Polystone Statue! Standing approximately 14 inches tall atop a Robotech Defense Force logo base, the VF-1J Stealth features a movable head and four (4) poseable arms. Each limited edition statue is hand painted and includes a Certificate of Authenticity.

Icon Heroes

As you can see, you get a little extra with a statue from IH. Not just one piece, Icon Heroes seems to pack in display options. This one, for example, comes with a moveable head and 4 arms, so you can tailor its look to your preference. Pretty cool.

As mentioned too, pretty limited. Just 50 pieces means that this guy is going to fly when it hits the sale period. That starts on July 9th, though the exact time hasn’t been revealed. So if you want one, best head to the sale page for it, and pray you get your refresh in at the right time.

Collectible maker Icon Heroes has debuted a trio of new offerings today, including two “pinbooks” and a Terminator bookend from Dark Fate.

Pinning a winner

Pins have been heating up the collectible market this year, though they’ve been pretty popular for a while now. That whole “Figpin” craze saw to that, although that’s not what we’re talking about today.

Icon Heroes has been forging collectible items from major properties for a long time now. They have a pair of pin collections that fans of the art form and the IPs selected might want to check out.

These are no mere single-carded pins either, as Icon’s announcements include two really cool looking books.

Street Fighter PinBook

  • Icon Heroes presents the Street Fighter PinBook Vol. 3, based on the art of Kinu Nishimura!  PinBooks feature a set of beautifully designed hard enamel pins packaged in a book-style packaging with stunning cover art.  Each limited-edition pin is individually numbered with a matching number on the book.  Each PinBook also has a unique volume number and features a magnetic closure to keep the pins secure inside. The Street Fighter PinBook Vol. 3 includes four (4) collectible pins – Ryu  (2.0″ tall), Chun Li (2.4″ tall), Ken Masters (2.5″ tall) and Blanka (3.0″ tall).
    • SRP $60
    • ETA 4th Qtr 2020

Robotech PinBook

  • Icon Heroes presents The Robotech PinBook Vol. 4! The Robotech PinBook Vol. 4 includes four (4) collectible pins from the Vermilion Squadron – VF-1J Rick Hunter (3.0″ tall), VF-1A Max Sterling (3.0″ tall), VF-1A Ben Dixon (3.0″ tall), and VF-1D Trainer (3.1″ tall.
    • SRP $60
    • ETA 4th Qtr 2020

Then there’s the bookend. Designed to look like a mini version of the endoskeleton skull from the Terminator: Dark Fate film, this piece seems like it would look pretty great just on a shelf by itself, or even on your desktop.

It is directly based on the official digital files from the movie too, so it’s as film-accurate as you’re going to get.

Terminator Rev 9 Bookend

  • Icon Heroes presents the Rev-9 Bookend from the film Terminator: Dark Fate!  Cast in polystone, each Rev-9 bookend is sculpted based off the film’s digital files and hand painted. The Rev-9 Bookend measures approximately 5.25″ H x 3.9″ W x 4.8″ L.
    • SRP $60
    • ETA 1st Qtr 2021

Collector level Robotech statues are coming up next year from Icon Heroes, complete with interchangeable parts and movable heads.

Robotechnology

It seems like slowly but surely Robotech is making its way back into the public sphere. We’ve seen a few toys pop up, as well as a comic, and now some excellent looking collector statues.

Forged by Icon Heroes, who make a line of DC TV figural statues you’ve probably seen around, the Robotech series so far consists of two statues, both of which have yet to arrive.

The first is probably the biggest fan favorite Valkyrie from the classic animated show, that being Rick Hunter’s. The second is no slouch either though, with the Battleoid version of Roy Fokker’s ride. Both statues stand in at around 14″ tall (from bottom of base to tip of antenna), and come complete with extra parts for tailoring their look.

The heads on both statues can move, and you’ll get a total of four arms for each in with the statues. A nice point here too, is that the arms don’t simply swap in and out at a singular point. They’re built with octagonal connectors, so you can position them in a few different ways. Nice for those that like custom options.

Of course, you’ll get certificates of authenticity in with both too, and these are hand painted as well. With all of this though, and at the size they are, they’re not cheap.

Each Battleoid will run you $200.00 USD. If you’re dying for some more Robotech though, that might be a small price to pay for something that looks this cool.

Pre-orders are open right now, and you can expect these to land at retail in about a year, in quarter 3 of 2020.

Indie comic publisher Titan is about to turn Robotech on its head (kind of). With Robotech Remix from writer Brenden Fletcher.

Remixed action

I have to admit, I don’t know what about this new Robotech series would be radically different from the classic cartoon. At first glance, it doesn’t seem like too much honestly.

A new Robotech saga starts now! Robotech is reborn from the ashes of Event Horizon! New writer Brenden Fletcher (Motorcrush, Isola) and artist Elmer Damaso(Robotech/Voltron, Marvel Mangaverse) boot up Robotech: Remix, an all-new series that will take beloved characters and iconic mecha to places fans have never seen before

Titan press release

That’s the description of what the series will be, but the press release follows it by talking about the classic that every fan knows.

First airing in the USA in 1985, Robotech was the gateway to anime for many fans – capturing their imagination with its epic generational storyline involving war, romance, and, of course, the transforming Veritech fighters that defend the Earth against extra-terrestrial attacks.

Produced by Harmony Gold USA, the original 85-episode series delved into humanity’s struggle against a series of alien invasions, from the gigantic Zentraedi to the mysterious Invid, battling for control of advanced alien technology that crash-landed on Earth.

Titan press release

There’s no mention of what the big changes are for this “remix” of a comic book series. In any event, there’s no denying that Damaso’s art is fantastic, as you’ll see in the gallery below.

I guess we’ll just have to wait till October 9th, when Robotech: Remix #1 hits the standard to see how much things have changed in the famed property.

I don’t usually go in for Toynami’s stuff, but this SDCC I might have to make an exception. The Robotech stuff they’ll have on hand is mighty tempting. And while I don’t even have much of concept of what Acid Rain is, the mixture of military, mech, and exclusive themes that are showing here is plenty intriguing too.

All of what you see here is limited in availability. So you’ll probably have a tough time finding it anywhere beyond the Con in a few weeks. So if you’re going, and you want some of this stock, get to the booth (#3229) early.

There’s no denying that Sideshow Toys is maybe the single most impressive collectable maker in the industry. Check out what’s new.

We’re almost done, we promise! I know that SDCC was a few weeks ago at this point, but we had so much stuff to get through, that it’s taking way longer than we had thought it would. We are int he home stretch though, and Sideshow’s massive booth of awesomeness is a part of this final week of coverage.

There isn’t much to say to get started here except that Sideshow is far and away one of the very best high-end collector shops on the planet. The company makes incredible pieces, some of which bust straight through that boundaries that you assumed existed for collectors. Seriously, almost everything they offer is of the “centerpiece” variety.

Let’s dive in…

Sixth scale

One of Sideshow’s best-known lines is its sixth scale series. This is where you’ll find Marvel, DC, and Star Wars (and others) figures with unparalleled detailing and sculpts. Also offered through the company is Hot Toys incredible series of figures, where you’ll find Marvel and DC movie figures, as well as an extensive collection of Star Wars.

Marvel

The Marvel stuff was heavy from both brands at SDCC, including a few surprises. The Spider-Man costume from the upcoming PS4 video game was present, as was Spider-Punk from the Spider-Verse storylines in the comics.

We also got to see a pair of new Captain America’s come to life in figure form. Both the “concept” Cap and a new comic book-inspired version were in attendance. There was an awesome T’Challa on his throne from Black Panther, a lightning-infused Thor, and a new Luke Cage (also from the comics) too.

DC

The DC Comics offerings were a little slimmer than the Marvel ones. Okay, a lot slimmer. The movie stuff that was on hand was all Justice League, which we’ve seen multiple times already. I was hoping for a look at a Black Manta figure from Hot Toys, but there wasn’t one present.

We did get to see two new DC figures from Sideshow though, in that redone Batman and Joker. Both look awesome and the Batman is a major improvement over the original, which was honestly pretty good already.

Star Wars

There wasn’t a ton of new Star Wars either, though what was there was impressive. And that includes the new stuff from Sideshow’s studio. That, by the way, would include the massive Jabba the Hutt and Throne “playset” and a freshly announced Lando in his Skiff Guard disguise.

I also hadn’t see the Jedi Luke figure in person, and I have to say I’m impressed with that one. I am very tempted to lay down a pre-order since he comes with basically all the gear to make every version of Luke from Return of the Jedi.

Statuary

The statues portion of Sideshow’s booth was a stunner this year.

Some of this stuff was crafted in a scale that I honestly can’t imagine actually having in my home. Not that I wouldn’t want to, but actually collecting these would mean there’d be little room to move. And that’s not to mention that there’d be nothing left in the old back account.

Still it’s might tempting to dive in. The Robotech, Flash, Mumm-Ra, Lobo, and Doomsday statues are jaw-droppers in person. And that’s not even getting into some of the smaller pieces like the Iron Studios stuff. Bane, (Danny Ketch) Ghost Rider and others are set in a much smaller scale, and should be way more affordable than the big boys.

Remember those nifty Coleco arcade titles from the 80s? You know, the ones that you could play on your dining room tabletop? Well, they’re back. The company has taken to Kickstarter to launch Rainbow Brite, Robotech: The Macross Saga, and a mystery third title.

Bringing the arcade home

I remember these things well. Pac Man, Donkey Kong, Zaxxon, and more were all available in a line that seemed way better than it looks in retrospect. Then again, back then there wasn’t much to play in this form factor. After all, they were pretty much arcade games that you could take with you, as unwieldy as they might have been.

Now some 30-odd years after they originally hit the market, Coleco is bringing the little consoles back. The same form, the same function, but with all new games inside, these arcade units are already doing quite well for themselves on the crowd funding platform Kickstarter.

As of this writing, Coleco has already beaten it’s goal of $30k USD. In fact, they’ve doubled it, with over $66k with another 21 days to go on the campaign. And the games I mentioned are both actually pretty neat.

Rainbow Brite looks like it’d be right at home on the NES, and Robotech looks every bit the Super Nintendo game that it honestly should have been. You can check them both out in action on the Kickstarter page for the company. And while you’re there, if you’re so inclined, you can also back them.

I did mention a “third game” too, though we don’t know what it is yet. According to Coleco, it’s a stretch goal, and will take quite a bit more cash to unlock. For that third title, the campaign will have to get up to $180k.

Toy-maker Toynami has unleashed their lineup of exclusive items for the big SDCC show coming up and there’s plenty to like if you’re a fan of big robots.

Not only do they have an awesome Robotech fighter available, but there’s a cool super-deformed Voltron that’s on tap too for Toynami- and it actually transforms into the Lion Force and back. How freaking cool is that?!

Then there’s that incredibly old school Shogun Godzilla (with launching fist!), an Acid Rain set that’s all painted up to look like a classic ‘army men’ figure and vehicle, and that b’dass Endoskeleton skull from Terminator. All of which equates out to be a lot of stuff that you’ll probably not want to skip over when you head on down to one of the biggest cons of the year.

You’ll find all this awesome stuff only at Comic Con too, and only at the Toynami booth, which is number 3229 on the convention center floor. As usual too, this stuff is all first come, first served; so get there early if you want to make sure you get your goodies.

SDCC comes early this year, so I hope you’re ready for your flight. The show runs July 9th through the 12th.

Robotech GBP-1 – Stealth Fighter – Heavy Armor
In honor of Robotech’s 30th Anniversary, Toynami is excited to present the Heavy Armor GBP-1 Stealth Fighter 1:100 Scale figure. It is fully articulated just like the classic 1:100 transformables, and can be converted into Fighter, Battloid or Gerwalk modes. The Armored Veritech GBP-1S system allows a single VF-1 fighter to wield the artillery firepower of an entire squadron. The armor is able to withstand several withering barrages from enemy fire, but prevents the Veritech from transforming into fighter mode, and must be jettisoned if the pilot needs maneuverability. *Heavy Armor accessories can only be used in Battloid mode.
