Students started to show serious interest in this new hobby within the past month and have begun playing everyday. The participation takes place on the quad after lunch periods, study hall, and any other free time that students occupy.

Many teachers and faculty members have been on record to say that they are “surprised to see the hacky sack become popular again”.

English teacher and Student Council moderator, Mr. Kurt Retenauer, has said on numerous occasions that he would love for students to exemplify their interest in hacky sack into making it an official Central Catholic extra curricular club.

The student body has become as commonly referred to on social media as “one with the sack” and students have become increasingly more skillful. They create new passes and transfers of the hacky sack to their peers in creative and innovative ways.

This trend has been an overall boost for Central Catholic in regard to students’ brotherhood and bond with their classmates.

Restaurants, bars, and shops across the city prepared for one opinion the busiest weekends of the year increasing staffing, extending hours and ordering extra inventory in preparation for draft weekend. However, several owners claim sales fell short of expectations despite record-breaking attendance at this year’s draft. 

According to reports from the Pittsburgh Post-Gazette, many owners stated visitors spent most of their time within the NFL-sponsored areas due to road closures and security restrictions. 

Several businesses even reported losing their regular customers during the event because of road closures, limited parking, and security restrictions. 

Owners stated that added expenses caused by overtime wages and excess food and merchandise made the weekend more costly than it did profitable.  

 Economic analysts at the University of Pittsburgh claim the economic results of this year’s draft are consistent with those often seen during other major sporting events. With large crowds often increasing hotel bookings and tourism, economists say the economic benefits of big events such as the draft are not always seen by local businesses.  

City tourism officials said they still hoped the attention around the draft could help bring in future customers, even if the immediate financial impact of the event did not meet expectations. 

If you did not know, all serviced academies are free due to them having a mandatory service requirement of at least 5 years. That causes some problems for those who want to play professional sports as well go to these academies.

Recently, the rules have been changed yet again.

The Defense Authorization Act has allowed up to 3 graduates from each academy to be in the Selected Reserve while playing professionally. It allows these athletes to continue playing while still being able to serve.

The reason it was unlikely for them to play professionally after college was because they had to have served their time before playing, and after 5 years of not playing it was unlikely they would continue their sports careers.

It was softened during Obama’s administration, allowing them to delay their service. The policy was reversed in 2017, then loosed yet again in 2019. Most recently in 2022, Congress required a minimum of 2 years of service before playing professionally.

But that again has been changed, allowing a limited number of athletes to play.

There has however, been plenty of rememberable professional players to come out of each of the academies.

Out of the Naval Academy there has been Roger Staubach, who is in the Hall of Fame form leading the Dallas Cowboys to 2 Superbowls, as well as David Robinson and Keenan Reynolds, who respectively had great sport careers. Robinson won 2 NBA Championships with the San Antonio Spurs and Reynolds with the Seattle Seahawks.

The United States Air Force Academy has also had Chad Hennings who won 3 super bowls with the Dallas Cowboys as well.

Recently, Eli Heidenrich who played both running back and wide receiver at Navy, has been drafted by the Pittsburgh Steelers, a home town pick. As well as defensive linemen, Landon Robinson getting drafted by the Cincinnati Bengals

Seeing these men, who are both equally passionate in our country as well as continue to play their sports respectively is truly inspiring.

Even though Spirit tried to save the company, the skyrocketing jet fuel prices triggered by the war in Iran as well as the increase in competitors quality of flights caused Spirit to ultimately land the flying banana.

On April 24th, 2026, the long-awaited Michael Jackson biopic hit theatres.

Starring Michael’s nephew Jaafar Jackson and directed by Antoine Fuqua, the film was released after a brief one-year production cycle.

Jaafar was praised for his depiction of his uncle, not only for his striking physical resemblance, but for his ability to replicate Michael’s voice and mannerisms.

Audiences praise the movie as an “extremely enticing watch from start to finish,” and take note of its “perfect” cast and locations.

There is no denying the influence the real Michael had on the world. And it seems like his 80’s fame has made a resurgence due to this film. Many people the internet are talking about the return of their childhood “Michael Jackson obsessions.”

Michael’s prominence is more than your average celebrity obsession, it goes back to many factors. One would be his massive influence. Michael’s music and fashion style has influenced countless artists, notably Pop artists.

Another defining feature of Michael’s impact was the fact that a Black man was on top of the world. Everybody loved him, regardless of race. This was incredibly uncommon in his time.

This trend appears to have started on March 25, 2026, when TikTok user isDurpyy posted a video of himself running through the Scientology Information Center on Hollywood Boulevard, reaching several restricted rooms before being escorted out by security. It gained more traction on March 31 when another TikTok user with the online handle Swhileyy, posted his attempt at the challenge. His video went viral, garnering more than 90 million views across the multiple accounts it was posted on.

Since the challenge emerged, Scientology centers have responded by taking preventative measures like removing door handles, employing better security, and in some cases, locking down the building. According to Independent, the Church of Scientology blasted the trend for turning peaceful religious spaces into “targets for viral stunts.”

Scientology spokesman David Bloomberg described the trend as “organized trespasses into religious and public information facilities for social media attention,” WBZ News Radio reported.

There has been an additional mission attached to several of these runs, being to fully map out the interiors of various Scientology buildings. As of May 7th, 2026, no complete maps have been posted publicly.

Taking inspiration from Swhileyy, many other “runners” have begun putting their own twist on the challenge; a user with the handle idclolfr posted a viral reel to Instagram where many people can be seen storming into a Scientology information center wearing costumes, such as Jesus Christ and Sonic the Hedgehog. Another spin on the challenge was made by Instagram user themindsetguyy where he gathers a large group of little people to protest outdoors with signs and run into a Scientology building.

Golf culture is currently transforming and attracting more of the youth audience. Fashion blends and revolutionary technology are transforming the game of golf and bringing it to an all time high. McLaren wants to join the surge and bring these new ‘hip’ golf clubs, along with bags and apparel in the near future.  Capitalizing on their historic high-end branding and massive fandom.

To increase their golf audience, they signed PGA Tour player Justin Rose, LIV Tour’s Ian Poulter, and LPGA’s Michelle Wie West. Justin Rose recently played the irons in the 2026 Cadillac Championship in Florida, shooting two over par through the four days of the tournament, placing 65th.

The irons from McLaren are their only golf equipment currently on the market. However, they continue the luxury price of $375 per iron. On average, players facilitate 5 different irons in their bag. Maul differentiates itself from other Star Wars entries with its gritty tone right away. Deaths are more brutal, environments are darker, and classic heroes are scarce. Maul, an ex-Sith Lord, seeks to rebuild his vast crime empire and gain enough power and allies to exact his revenge on Darth Sidious, his mentor, for killing his brother. However, he encounters resistance in the local peacekeeping forces and currently existing crime enterprises.

Captain Lawson and his droid companion, Two-Boots investigate the string of crimes that have ravaged Janix. Lawson seeks to avoid Empire involvement in the investigation while Two-Boots is programmed to follow protocol, which states that he must report their findings to the Empire.

What starts as a local investigation quickly escalates and draws the attention of the Empire. Darth Sidious (Emperor Palpatine) wishes to kill his former apprentice, having already replaced him with a much more powerful minion. Captain Lawson and the two Jedi (Devon and Daki) are forced to ally themselves with Maul in order to evade the Empire. Devon finds herself torn between her Master, Daki, and Maul, who promises revenge and a place in a new galactic order.

Exploring themes of obsession, revenge, corruption, and temptation, Maul offers a more mature view of the Star Wars universe that is thoroughly entertaining to both Star Wars junkies and newcomers. It’s flaws do not hinder the show, and I would highly recommend watching it even if you don’t have a prior interest in Star Wars.

Fans want stability at the quarterback position, something that hasn’t been accomplished since the Big Ben era. On top of that, they want a ceiling that’s higher than just a first-round playoff exit which has been the story for 5 of the last 6 years and this is why they should go in the direction of Will Howard.

Obviously, Rodgers is still a very likely option for the Steel City next year, but I believe the Steelers potential could be hindered if they decide to bring the 42-year-old back.

As the season went on, it was clear Rodger’s was fading and suffered an embarrassing 30-6 playoff loss at home against the Texans.

If they do choose to bring him back, it will be a repeat of last season, if not worse.

On the other hand, Will Howard provides more hope and potential at quarterback. You could argue he was a 6th round pick and isn’t ready to lead this Steeler team, but he’s overlooked and also led the Ohio State Buckeyes to a National Championship just 2 years ago.

Yes, with him at quarterback and a new coach there is a likely chance we could have our first losing record in 20 years, but at the same time, our ceiling could be much higher and provides a chance for the Steelers to make it further than the first round.

With an athletic build similar to Josh Allens, great mobility, a solid arm, and newly acquired receivers like Michael Pittman, and Germie Bernard, Will Howard has all the tools and potential to lead the Steelers to something great again.

Drew Allar was not a great draft pick by the Steelers, he’s less experienced and coming off a season ending injury. Meaning he likely won’t see the field this year.

Aaron Rodgers is planned to meet with the Steelers this weekend, meaning we will probably have to wait another year for the young guys to get a shot. We will see what the future holds.

Central parking has been an issue for all of the 2025-2026 school year, since the new renovation of the gym its only gotten worse. “Out of all my years at central the lot has never been this confusing,” said Aidan Dugita ’26.

The end of the 2025 school year marked the start of the creation of the new gym. With the new gym they plan on adding additional parking but that comes with shutting down a large portion of the lot for renovation for underground parking.

The construction caused over 50 spots to be closed and that caused kids to have to park distant from the school extending the tool for your morning getting to class.

Many now have to park in two separate lots surrounding central, one being at the Holy Spirit Byzantine Catholic Church on 5th ave, the other is just off 5th ave on Henry street behind the Fairfax apartments.

With school starting towards the fall, Many are concerned for the cold long walk and the dangers of 5th ave and its history of bad drivers for the first few months of school. Luckily for the students coming in during the 2026-27 year, they will have easy parking and a short warm walk to school.
