LABOR DAY “SHAMBLE” + BBQ

Play in Chesapeake Bay Golf Club’s Annual Labor Day Shamble! Event is optional and Open to the Public! Format is a 4-person team “Shamble” – 1 Best Ball Each Hole. All golfers hit a tee shot, then select the best tee shot. From that point on, each golfer is to play their own ball. The golfer with the lowest score on the hole will count to the team score.

Fun format makes for a great day of golf! Enjoy a delicious barbecue dinner that’s included following the round.

Austin claimed a two-shot victory over brothers Zach and Evan Barbin who both finished tied for second place at 1-under par.

About the PAO

The PAO is a group of Assistant PGA Professionals and Apprentices within the Philadelphia Section PGA.

With scores of 5-under par, what began as a five-way first place playoff featuring Zach Barbin, Austin Barbin, Andy Hewitt of Cripple Creek Golf and Country Club, Trevor Bensel of LuLu Country Club, and Anthony Sebastianelli of Whitford Country Club ultimately became a Barbin family showdown.

After four playoff holes, Zach and Austin were the final two players standing.

With the championship on the line, the brothers faced each other on the fifth playoff hole, No. 8. Zach secured the title with a clutch birdie two, bringing an unforgettable conclusion to a historic day for the Barbin family.

“It was really special to have my family out here,” Barbin said following the playoff. “I never get to play with my brothers in competition, so it was a pretty different experience.”

A Historic Day for the Barbin Family

Monday’s championship marked what is believed to be a historic first in golf: the first documented father-and-four-son family in which all five members are PGA Professionals and competed as individual professionals in the same professional tournament.

The extraordinary family milestone featured Andy Barbin, PGA, and his four sons — Andrew Barbin, PGA, Zach Barbin, Austin Barbin, and Evan Barbin — all competing in the same PGA Section championship.

In addition to his brothers Zach and Austin, Evan Barbin finished tied for 8th place in his first Philadelphia PGA Section tournament with a solid score of 3-under par.

All five Barbins are part of Chesapeake Bay Golf Club in Maryland, making their participation together a remarkable reflection of the family’s longstanding commitment to the game and to the golf profession.

Having five members of one family compete together in a professional tournament would have made the day memorable on its own. But with Zach and Austin advancing through the playoff and ultimately facing one another for the championship, the Barbin family story became the defining moment of the event.

Brothers Competing for a Championship

For Zach and Austin, the final playoff was about much more than a trophy. The two brothers spend much of their time working together and representing Chesapeake Bay Golf Club. On Monday, they found themselves on opposite sides of the competition — with a PGA Section championship at stake.

After four playoff holes, only the two brothers remained.

On the fifth playoff hole, No. 8, Zach delivered the decisive shot, making a birdie two to claim the championship.

While only one brother could take home the trophy, both Zach and Austin played a major role in creating one of the most memorable finishes in Philadelphia PGA Section history.

For Austin, reaching the final playoff hole against his brother represented an impressive performance and added another unforgettable chapter to the Barbin family’s remarkable history in golf.

Another Championship Season for Zach

Monday’s victory adds another major accomplishment to an outstanding 2026 season for Zach. Earlier this month, he captured the 50th Pro-Am for Wishes, and he now adds the Jack Jolly & Son Championship to his list of victories.

Following his victory, Zach thanked his Lord and Savior Jesus Christ, his mother, father, brothers, Manufacturers’ Golf & Country Club for hosting the championship, the Philadelphia PGA Section staff, his wife, and his newborn baby at home.

The 2026 Jack Jolly & Son Championship will be remembered not only for Zach Barbin’s dramatic victory, but for an extraordinary family achievement — five Barbins, one father and four sons, all PGA Professionals, competing together, and two brothers ultimately battling for the championship on the final hole.

Barbin’s record-setting performance was the highlight of the championship’s final round, as he charged up the leaderboard with a round that showcased remarkable consistency and scoring. His 62 broke the previous Whitemarsh Valley course record, which had been set by golf legends Gary Player (1963), Raymond Floyd (1975), and Tom Kite (1978).

Barbin finished the championship as runner-up to defending champion Braden Shattuck of Rolling Green Golf Club, who successfully defended his title with rounds of 64-66-68–198, 18-under-par. Barbin’s final-round 62 was the lowest round of the championship and one of the standout performances in Philadelphia PGA Professional Championship history.

Barbin’s 10-under-par 62 was one stroke off the lowest round ever recorded in a Philadelphia PGA Professional Championship. Al Besselink holds the championship record with a 61, shot in 1960 at Bala Golf Club. Alex Knoll also carded a 62 at Union League Golf Club at Torresdale in 2019.

Barbin’s 62 adds another remarkable chapter to his 2026 season, following his victory in the 50th Pro-Am for Wishes earlier this month.

One-hundred-fifty of the Philadelphia PGA Section’s best players competed for a berth into the 2027 PGA Professional Championship, April 25-28, at Streamsong Golf Resort in Bowling Green, Florida. From there, PGA Members from the 41 PGA Sections will compete to join the Corebridge Financial Team and earn a berth into the 2027 PGA Championship, May 17-23, on the Fields Ranch East Course at PGA Frisco in Frisco, Texas.

Philadelphia PGA Professionals vied for 10 spots to compete in next year’s PGA Professional Championship. Shattuck and Brian Bergstol had already secured spots thanks to winning the 2023 PGA Professional Championship and competing on this year’s U.S. PGA Cup Team, respectively.

Eleven Philadelphia PGA Members advanced to the 2027 PGA Professional Championship:

Barbin sealed the championship with a brilliant final-round 6-under-par 66, highlighted by six birdies and a steady, mistake-free approach that proved to be the difference.

“Today I was trying to make no bogeys—that was my goal,” said Barbin. “That’s been my strategy for the last three tournaments, and I played really well.”

The Pro-Am for Wishes is one of the region’s premier professional golf events. Established in 1976 at Whitford Country Club, the tournament has been held annually at Penn Oaks Golf Club since 2008 (with the exception of 2020) and benefits Make-A-Wish Philadelphia, Delaware & Susquehanna Valley. Since moving to Penn Oaks, the event has raised more than $700,000 to help grant life-changing wishes for children with critical illnesses.

Following his victory, Barbin expressed heartfelt gratitude to those who have supported him throughout his journey.

“First and foremost, I want to thank Jesus Christ,” Barbin said. “I’m also incredibly grateful for the unwavering support of my parents, my brothers, my wife, Olivia, and WSFS Bank.”

Congratulations to Zach Barbin on an outstanding victory – his 7th professional win – and another impressive achievement representing Chesapeake Bay Golf Club. His dedication, consistency, and championship performance continue to reflect the excellence of the club’s PGA Professional staff.

The foursome combined for an impressive 13-under-par finish to earn the championship title in a highly competitive field of PGA Professionals.

The Ohana Farm Team Championship features a distinctive format that emphasizes teamwork and strategy. On each hole, the number of scores that count varies by par:

• Par 5s: One best score counts
• Par 4s: Two best scores count
• Par 3s: Three best scores count

Andrew and Austin’s outstanding play, combined with the strong performances of Scarborough and Rossi, showcased exceptional teamwork and consistency throughout the championship.

Congratulations to Andrew Barbin and Austin Barbin on adding another championship to Chesapeake Bay Golf Club’s proud tradition of excellence.

After opening with a 5-under-par 65, Barbin entered the final round one stroke off the lead. He followed with a 2-under-par 68 in the final round to post a two-day total of 133 (-7), edging Michael Chanaud of Bear Trap Dues by one stroke to claim victory.

During his interview, Zach thanked Jesus and his mother, who has been battling cancer in recent months. He says she has served as an inspiration throughout this season.

Calling all junior golfers!  Every month, Chesapeake Bay Golf Club will run an 18-hole and 9-hole junior tournament.  All tournaments will be individual stroke play and we will award a gross and net winner each event.  This is a great way for all levels of play to stay sharp, make new friends, and learn how to play competitive golf.  All scoring and record keeping will be done on Golf Genius.

Juniors who are also part of our Players Club can get Junior Player of the Year points as well!  If you aren’t part of our Players Club you can still play and compete. Call Pro Shop 410-658-4343 x2 if you want to play or learn more.  Junior Leaguers who want to play after practice are welcome to as well!

Who is eligible:

• All junior golfers are eligible to play in our junior tournament.
• Junior golfers who are members of our Player’s Club ($50 annual fee for members and $70 for non-members) are eligible to win “Junior Golfer of the Year” points.

Divisions:

• 12U: Boys and Girls will play silver tees (9 holes)
• 13-14: Boys will play the green tees, girls will play red tees (9 holes, kids can move up if advanced enough)
• 15-18: Boys will play the white tees, Girls will play red tees (18 holes)

Chesapeake Bay Golf Club’s professional staff is also going to provide consultation services to all junior golfers to create a “college roadmap” to help them create a tournament schedule as well as assist them in the college recruitment process (which colleges to look for, which tournaments to sign up for, how to contact coaches etc.)
