]]> With nearly 140 years of experience, Chapin International knows a thing or two about manufacturing. When the company was looking for room to grow, they invested more than $22 million to locate new facilities in Danville, Ky., and Mount Vernon, Ky.

Chapin International is a leader in the design, manufacturing and marketing of high quality compressed air sprayers and hand sprayers used in home, garden, commercial landscape, agricultural and industrial applications. Its Kentucky investments added nearly 675,000 square feet along with 300 jobs.

“Our Kentucky employees are proving to be the biggest asset to this new plant, with good attendance and a willingness to get the job done,” said Jim Campbell, CEO of Chapin International. “We are accomplishing our goals ahead of schedule. With the help of these employees, we will be well-positioned to strengthen our competitiveness and grow further in the global market.”

Chapin’s expanded presence in Kentucky will allow the company to better capitalize on the state’s strategic location to get products to consumers quickly. As the logistics center of the eastern U.S., the commonwealth is located within 600 miles of two-thirds of the nation’s population.

German copper maker Wieland chooses Kentucky

Wieland North America is building a $100 million plant in Shelbyville, Ky. The Germany-based company’s facility will melt copper and copper-alloy for recycling for use in manufacturing semi-finished copper and copper-alloy products for customers throughout North America.

“We are so excited to welcome our friends at Wieland North America to Shelbyville and into our Shelby Energy Cooperative family,” said Jack Bragg Jr., president and CEO of Shelby Energy Cooperative.

Wieland North America manufactures copper and copper-alloy products, including sheet, strip, foil, tube, bar and other fabricated components, and also rerolls and forms other metals, such as stainless and carbon steel. Its products are used in a variety of industries, including building and construction, munitions, automotive, coinage and electronics/electrical components.

Pernod Ricard joins Kentucky bourbon boom

French spirits producer Pernod Ricard is joining Kentucky’s bourbon boom, investing $196 million to construct a completely carbon-neutral distillery at its 265-acre site in Marion County, Ky.

Jerry Carter, president and CEO of Inter-County Energy, said he is excited about partnering with one of the world’s leading producers of spirits and wine to meet the renewable energy needs of the campus.

“Inter-County Energy is excited to partner with Pernod Ricard in their new distillery and visitor center campus in Lebanon-Marion County,” Carter said. “Meeting our members’ requests – and specifically, Pernod Ricard’s requirements for sustainable 100% renewable energy for the Lebanon-Marion County project – is a cornerstone principle for Inter-County Energy.”

The French-owned business is constructing a 75,000-square-foot facility that will produce bourbon with zero fossil fuel consumption.

“There are only two carbon-neutral distilleries in the U.S., and both are in Kentucky and on our co-op lines,” said Brad Thomas, Economic Development Manager for Kentucky’s Touchstone Energy Cooperatives.

Kentucky’s Touchstone Energy Cooperatives Recognized as Top 20 Utilities in Economic Development

Data is Power is proud to announce that Kentucky’s Touchstone Energy Cooperatives have been named in the top 20 U.S. utilities in economic development by Site Selection magazine. This recognition highlights the efforts of all 17 electric cooperatives in Kentucky, working alongside local, state, and federal officials to bring jobs and investment to rural communities.

In 2021, the Touchstone Energy Cooperatives facilitated business recruitments and expansions that resulted in 2,600 job announcements and $2.3 billion in projected investment in the communities they serve. This achievement is particularly gratifying because, as member-owned, not-for-profit organizations headquartered in Kentucky and owned by the residents they serve, the success of the cooperatives truly benefits the people and communities of Kentucky, according to Rodney Hitch, Director of Economic Development.

One of the reasons for the recognition is the innovative tools and programs that the Touchstone Energy Cooperatives have deployed to support economic development in Kentucky. For example, they have utilized PowerVision, a cutting-edge drone technology, to capture detailed mapping and infrastructure data for rural industrial parks, as well as produce videos that can be shared instantly with prospects anywhere in the world. These tools have helped market business sites in Kentucky communities and attract new investment.

In addition, the Touchstone Energy Cooperatives have developed innovative programs to help businesses access renewable energy sources to meet corporate sustainability goals. This demonstrates their commitment to sustainability and supporting environmentally responsible practices in economic development efforts.

Site Selection magazine considers various factors in determining the top utilities in economic development, including job creation, new capital investment announcements, website tools and data, innovative programs and incentives for businesses, and the utility’s own job-creating infrastructure and facility investment trends. The Touchstone Energy Cooperatives have excelled in these areas, earning them a spot among the top 20 utilities in economic development out of around 3,300 electric utilities across the country, including around 900 cooperatives.

Diageo’s Lebanon Kentucky Distillery project is continuing to make progress toward its 2021 opening. The distillery was announced in late 2018 with an official ground breaking in July 2019.
