Dave… this is Heyoka “ Dave alcocer” , and yes.. the “ electric lady “ is my younger sis.. the “ over the rainbow theme “ was done by “ jumbo” Jimmy sweetwood on guitar. Thanks for acknowledging the tremendous work put forth by the godfather. SA is still metal capital of the world, and Joe loved it when we released “ disco sucks” .. we broke discos records before a gig. He helped us gain further popularity. And I personally handed him my “ 45 single “ while he was broadcasting live.. he actually played it. ( my group then was “ straw dogs”) Dude.. I love your great work in saluting the most influential person in rock music.. Right? Go ask :rush( heyoka opened at Randy’s rodeo) ask budgie( heyoka opened at texas theater.. etc etc etc .. Dave… you RAWK!!

Couldn’t have said it better! Your memories mirror my own. Merle was/is my Dad’s favorite singer and songwriter of all time, and my youth in the 70’s was filled with country music coming out of those speakers, as you said. Thanks for the great article and for sparking some great memories.

We moved to S A in 1978 I was 14 years old and starting my freshman year at MacArthur H S. I had an old Sears am/fm radio single speaker on the nightstand next to my bed. I remember lying awake and listening to Joe late at night I think he came on around 11 or midnight. I remember he was a huge Rush fan as was and still am. His show is where I first heard bands like Triumph,Moxy,The Hunt,Budgie,UFO,Angel and dozens of others. This man was so instrumental in introducing new rock bands to San Antonio and Texas and he was huge in publicizing their careers. A rock music dj pioneer who will always be loved and missed by true San Antonio rock music fans. RIP JOE YOU WILL ALWAYS BE LOVED AND MISSED.

Look these 8 tunes are how day drinking will get me into trouble. I hear the Dolls, I hear Humble Pie, I hear the JuJu Hounds(and these guys are better than the Quireboys sorry), and of course its the Faces with a lil extra bag of El Chapo’s finest to keep the tempo a li faster at times. I mope around thinking rock n roll is dead. I hate music more and more everyday with nothing but old relics touring their hits with half of the OG lineup or worse maybe the drummer, and computerized teen pop that has infected our culture like the flu. But this is refreshing, Rock n Roll aint paying the bills these days but my god cheers to the passion. Maybe they might be the great hope! Fantastic shit right here!
