Sunflower Spectacular

We are opening our beautiful sunflower field for photography and u-pick. Not only will the flowers be a beautiful backdrop, but we have many charming photo ops placed throughout the field for you to make some wonderful memories. It is important to note the field is weather dependent and we rely on mother nature. We will continually post Facebook updates on the progress of our field so be sure to check it out!

 

A vintage party setting

Birthdays are special days here at A-Mazing Acres Farm — so says our “party animal” (above)!  We’ll help you make wonderful memories for your friends and family, with entertainment and adventure galore. Plus, we have a Party Loft that will seat about 40 people. It’s a delightful party setting with the ambiance of an old-fashioned storefront “ball room”.

What’s the Deal?

The Party Loft will be reserved for a 2-hour time slot on Saturday through Sunday or a 4-hour period for Wednesday through Friday. All guests must purchase entrance to the farm, good for all day at the farm.

• Please note that you must climb 18 steps to reach the Party Loft.
• You may bring your own decorations, food, cake, etc. or purchase food items from our concession stand.

Say Moooooo!

Texas Longhorn is a breed of cattle famous for their super-long horns — they can extend up to eight-feet from tip to tip! Holy cow! These famous animals are descended from the first cattle that came to America, brought by Christopher Columbus and other Spanish colonists. In spite of the long and menacing horns, they are known to have a gentle disposition and be quite smart!  

When our country became more heavily settled with farms and cities, the natural habitat of the free range Longhorns was slowly encroached on. Other breeds were more prized by ranchers for meat, dairy herds and more. However, enthusiasts stepped in and developed small private herds — and these have provided animals for other collectors and farms such as ours!

Come out to see our little herd of Longhorns! Take a hayride out to the Pumpkin Patch and you can visit them on the way.

Pumpkins and more!

We have a variety of pumpkins for sale at the Pumpkin Barn. Just the right pumpkins for pies, carving, painting and/or decorating.  Choose from: Grey Ghost, Cinderella, Fairytale, Jarrahdale, Autumn Buckskin, and, of course — the famous KnuckleHead Pumpkin (Mr. Warty) and Red Warty Thing.

We also have corn shocks to sell — bound right here on the farm with an authentic binder. Other Fall harvest decor items include bales of straw, gourds and Indian corn.

Pumpkin Carving Tips

We have some wonderful pumpkin carving kits available for you to purchase  in the Big Red Barn.  Prepare your pumpkin before carving by washing it in soapy water along with a cupful of bleach.  To make your carving the pumpkin easier, thin the rind from the area where you will carve. Some children love cleaning out the guts of their pumpkin — save those seeds for roasting.  Please feel free to share your carved pumpkin photos with us on FaceBook! 

Keeping your Pumpkins Fresh

As noted above, when you get your pumpkin home, giving it a bath with dishwashing soap and water plus 1 cupful of bleach in a sink of water will remove the bacteria that breaks down the pumpkin.  Polishing it with a little bit of spray furniture polish before carving makes it pretty spiffy.  
PS.  If you are adding paint or sparkles we would skip the polishing stem until after your decorating.

ReCycling your Pumpkin

Did you know that many animals love to eat pumpkin?  Our pigs relish their pumpkin, usually playing with their food first!  Our chickens, especially Gentle Ben, our rooster loves to eat the rind.  He gets so excited when we bring it to his house that he calls all the girls to come and eat with him.  He is such a gentleman.

Add your pumpkin scraps to the compost pile for next year’s garden and when Jack or Jill O’Lantern is finished decorating your porch, add him to the compost bin.  

A Gem Mining Adventure!

The action takes place at the old-fashioned mining *sluice. Purchase a bag of polished stones or arrow heads, and make your way to the water sluice to discover rubies, topaz, emeralds, garnets and many other beautiful stones.

*The mining sluice is a trough leading from a water-filled wooden tower. As the water runs through the trough, just empty your bags of mining “rough” into the sifting trays and let the water wash away the dirt, revealing sparkling gems or arrow heads.

It’s like panning for gold – plus you get to pocket whatever you find! After discovering your gems, use the identification charts to accurately identify what you have found. Purchase a bags of rough mix, and you can spend anywhere from 10 minutes to 1 hour sifting to find gems and arrow heads.

Kids of all ages enjoy the A-Mazing Acres Gem Mining Adventure and will take home a special souvenir of their visit.





Gather up your pals!

Groups are always welcome at the farm! It’s a great place for Scouts to explore the maze or pumpkin patch. Church groups enjoy the outdoor fun in a wholesome environment. We welcome 4-H Clubs, civic organizations, family reunions, and more.
