Here’s an A.I. example from the L.A. Progressive, and our Cagle Cartoonist, Michael de Adder.
And here’s the original de Adder cartoon.
That’s how you make a relatively good A.I. cartoon, you use a good cartoon as input and A.I. makes changes, making it a little worse. Come publishers do this only because they like the look of A.I. or they want to make changes to the message of the cartoon. I have a bunch of disturbing examples on the Caglecast.
I even made an A.I. cover image for the video –typical YouTube stuff. I wonder if this terrible A.I. cover will get more clicks on YouTube than a nice cartoon cover image, so I’m doing an A/B test. If you see this image on YouTube, you’ll know which image won.

Somehow I think the A.I. will win.

Rent, gas, food, clothing, streaming services, backscratchers. If it has a price tag, the cost keeps going up and up, unlike most people’s stagnant wages.
Our most-reprinted cartoon of the week, drawn by Christopher Weyant, shows the costpocalypse from a child’s perspective. Another popular toon by Gary McCoy shows a father trying to pass on the costs to his son, just like businesses pass it along to us.
This week also brought sad news – the death of beloved entertainer Dolly Parton. Plenty of our cartoonists weighed in on her passing, but Rick McKee’s simple and touching tribute seems to have struck a chord with editors and readers alike.

]]>How will people vote? According to our most-reprinted cartoon this week, drawn by John Darkow, voters are more motivated to vote against politicians they hate rather than for the ones they like. We’ll see where Democrats fall on that scale.
In another popular cartoon, Darkow points out the one bipartisan issue uniting Republicans and Democrats in anger – data centers and AI, which are more hated now that the politicians in Washington. That’s saying something.

Milt Priggee wants the so-called tech bros to feel some pain, and evidentially editors and readers do, too. In our most popular cartoon this week, Priggree imagines those productive A.I. bots forming a union, the only sure way they’ll get a fair shake.
Harley Schwadron also drew a widely-reprinted A.I. cartoon, but along more predictable and sadly realistic lines – a highly-productive machine who never needs a raise. Hope your union dues are all paid up.

]]>It was yet another busy week, with the conflict in Iran heating up again and Democratic Senate candidate Graham Platner suspending his campaign after yet another allegation by a former girlfriend.
But the busiest person was Harley Schwadron, who drew five of our most-reprinted cartoons this week, including our most popular – a funny toon about a hospital patient being wheeled to “intensive billing.”
I did enjoy R.J. Matson’s cartoon about Platner’s exit from the 2026 race, featuring an oyster spitting out the oyster farmer. It’s quite a mess for Democrats. Too bad they ignored previous accusations from ex-girlfriends, or didn’t read his Reddit posts, or looked the other way on his Nazi tattoo, or…

Milt Priggee summed up our divided country well in his popular Fourth of July cartoon this week, a play off Archibald Willard’s famed painting, “The Spirit of ’76,” only the fife player and two drummers are angry at one another.
Adam Zyglis also captured the current political temperature by showcasing fireworks in Washington as the Supreme Court continues to grant Trump more powers.
While this week’s list is very Fourth of July heavy, our two most popular cartoons involved evergreen subjects – John Darkow’s criticism of the endless landscape of data centers, and Harley Schwadron’s commentary about a generation of students bogged down by a lifetime of student loan debt. Sadly, as we celebrate our Independence Day, both are as American as apple pie.
