Hi Paul. Yes, I remember that review. I worked with the reviewer to try to debug the problem, but it seemed like there was some fundamental incompatibility between his Mac laptop and the App Store version of the app. Other people with the same configuration had no such problem! We discovered that the version on my website worked fine, so I ended up giving him a free license for that and he was happy it worked. You’re welcome to download the trial version from my website to put it through its paces. If you think it’ll meet your needs, it can be purchased either from the Mac App Store, or direct from my website.

This is my first time on your web site. I found your recap of 2017 interesting

I have been using the IOS version of orchid album for almost a year and I am pretty satisfied. I have an iPhone 10 and have not noticed any problems yet

I also have a new Mac book pro and I am thinking of buying that also – my hesitation is the one review on the apple store that stated it was crashing a lot. Wondering if you might want to comment on that?

Can’t wait for the mac version of Orchid album, I am looking forward to being able to work with database on both my mac and Macbook. I have many orchids growers who love the concept of your iPhone app…. to be able to transfer it to their mac and update both ways, will really help them in the greenhouse from just having a iPhone app that can take pictures and log in new plants, to a desktop version that can really be a great tool for coordinating their passion for orchids, into a great business tool as well. I would love a feature on the mac version to be able to create reports with pictures to build a catalogue of your collection. being able to choose the fields that you would want to work with. Either way I am looking forward to your update and mac version. Orchid Album is a terrific application…… way to go Andrew….

The decision to support XP was purely based on existing market-share. For a niche productivity app like this, I need to support the platforms with the most users. Currently Windows Phone and Windows tablets have captured a minuscule portion of the market, and even Windows 8 / 8.1 have been disappointing in that regard.

The app is being built on .NET, C# and WPF, all of which are fairly recent, and according to Microsoft allow for relatively straightforward ports to their new platforms. I’ll believe it when I see it! I’m sure it’s not a simple recompile to get things working on these newer platforms, but nowhere near as difficult as it would be to port a crusty old Win32 or MFC application.

I’ll be honest — knowing that you’re supporting XP immediately tells me that the app is going to be on a limited framework that is not going to be as useful on my touch-enabled devices going forward. XP is a dead platform that is out of any sort of support.

If you were doing a Windows 8.1/Windows 10 universal app, so that I had a chance of seeing the app on my Windows phone and Windows tablet..well, then I would be very interested.
