Skybound is setting up to have a big SDCC 2026, with the hugely popular Energon Universe. But don’t worry, Invincible will be there too.

Skybound heading to SDCC

One of the hottest properties in comics, has been the Energon Universe. If you don’t know what that is, it’s Skybound Entertainment‘s lineup of titles that encompasses the brand new M.A.S.K. book, plus Transformers, G.I. Joe, and Void Rivals. The line has exploded with tie-in books, as you can see, creating a sci-fi/action universe unto itself.

As such, it’ll be playing a big part in Skybound‘s SDCC plans, as the company arrives at Comic Con next week. But that’s not to say that it’s all that it’ll be there. No, the company has plenty more to talk about, including its arguably biggest property. That would be Invincible, which is on fire thanks to its currently airing animated series. In that same vein too, the Invincible Universe: Battle Beast (comics) spinoff will also be present.

On top of those, there’s also The Walking Dead, and a brand new superhero title from writer Robert Kirkman. That latter is Terminal, a book that also includes the talents of Joe Casey, Andy Kubert, Arthur Adams, and David Finch. Heck of a lineup there.

As for how all of that will be featured, it’s going to be a melange of happenings. First and foremost, is a lineup of panels, which will include one hosted by Kirkman himself. That’ll be followed by a panel about the hobby of collecting, and one flocked on the aforementioned Energon Universe.

    • Michelle Waffle (senior comic specialist, PSA), Arune Singh (VP, Brand, Skybound), David Nakayama (artist), and Danielle Sauvé (collector and influencer) explore why mystery variants, blind bags, and limited covers ignite collector demand and how publishers, artists, and grading experts shape the hobby. Drawing on examples from the Energon Universe, this panel unpacks the creative, psychological, and market forces behind today’s collecting culture, culminating in a live blind bag opening where panelists debate whether to grade the book inside. Moderated by Caitlin Corsetti (senior manager of copywriting, PSA).

There’s a full slate of happenings scheduled for San Diego next week, courtesy of Skybound, including 20 years of TWD and Invincible.

“Dead” it isn’t

It might be tough to picture, but both The Walking Dead and Invincible have been around for two decades at this point. Robert Kirkman’s post-apocalyptic epic in particular, has become a cultural mainstay, moving past comics to incorporate what’s really turned into a TV-cinematic universe.

It’s a theme that’s going to factor into publisher Skybound’s SDCC plans in a very big way. But stay with us, because there’s a heck of a lot more to get psyched about at the booth. Skybound, if you don’t know, is picking up the Transformers and G.I. Joe licenses, and will be bringing fans a shared universe of action starting this very year with The Energon Universe.

But wait, there’s even more as there’ll be plenty of Invincible to see as well, plus the retro-grappling video game RPG Wrestlequest, an appearance by Katee Sackhoff, exclusive merch, and tons more.

Here’s your full slate of Comic Con International action:

Back in 2012 when Clementine was introduced to our screens, I don’t think anybody realised how much that little girl would change gaming. Now seven years on, we finally say goodbye to Clementine.

Spoiler Warning. This will contain the ending of TWD final season in great detail.

Clementine’s Final Journey.

During the final season of TWD, Clementine is raising Alvin junior, and finding out that every descion she makes is quickly influencing AJ, all while struggling to find a home to keep him safe. When she does finally find a place, she quickly finds it under threat. An old acquaintance jeopardises the safety of the new group as well as her own. Raising AJ and fighting for her new home risk taking a deathly toll on Clem, but she handles it none the less. I mean we wouldn’t expect it any other way.

Clem has grown up to be quite the badass in this apocalyptic world. She has no problem looking after AJ or herself. So defending her surroundings has become a second nature for the duo. In the explosive final season,(Pun intended, IYKYK) We see the Erickson schoolers becoming family to Clementine and AJ, and home. Something that neither children believed they would find.

Clementine And Lee, Back In Season One

Throughout playing TWD final season you almost forget this is an ending, building up to say goodbye to a character that you have practically raised. I feel such an attachment to the choices I made for Clem. As I am certain other players feel the same. It was bittersweet knowing this was the last time we would be making those choices.

Almost Didn’t Get Chance.

Back in in September of 2018, Telltale Games announced sudden closure. Leaving all of their employees jobless and the majority of their current works unfinished, including The Walking Dead; The Final Season. It was at that moment Robert Kirkman and SkyBound Games swooped in and, frankly saved the day. The released a press announcement that they would be finishing off Clementines story on behalf of TellTale. Fans rejoiced all across the world, that we would see an ending for our beloved Clem after all.

The Press Release September 2018

The History of TellTale’s TWD.

Comparison Of Cover Art From
Seasons 1 And 4

When Lee finds poor 8-year-old Clem, hiding in her treehouse back in season one, we would immediately fall in love with her. The relationship she built with Lee, and us, in such a short space of time is nothing short of love. Players guiding Lee through this new world of zombies, and making sure he protects this innocent little girl, would truly feel the weight of life on their shoulders. Not a heart was spared when at the end of season one, the decision was given to the play to have Clem kill Lee before he turned or let him turn in to a walker. I can confirm there wasn’t a dry eye in this writer home that’s for certain.

As each season progresses, the choices you make will have a consequence for other characters, not just your own, and of course, shape the story you play. Since season one we have lost quite a few favourite characters, and so many of them had a big part in shaping Clem. When TWD released seasons 3 New Frontier, fans were shocked to see Clementine back as a secondary character. Introducing new characters was possibly a bad move on TellTales part. Every player was relieved that she would be back for the final season in the main protagonist role as she should be.

The Final Season.

As her story comes to a close, we see 16-year-old Clementine experiance friendship, love and responsibility. And through our choices alone we decide who will make it to the very end with her. All while we have been shaping AJ and helping him to grow and become someone Clem would be proud of.

I really loved the final season. The way we get to see Clem finally stealing some normal teenage moments, and the beautiful bond she shares with little Alvin jr. Choosing whether she has a romance in this final season was something unexpected but felt just, its only fitting she has some love in her life, shes had enough heart ache.

The flashback on the train, where Clem finally is reunited with Lee, if only in a dream, was absolutely fantastic. Skybound really managed to capture how fans would love for them to speak again, and for Lee to see how amazing Clem how become thanks to his teaching. She has remebered his rules and passed them along to AJ in a way she knows Lee would approve.

Being such a huge influence on AJ is obviously exactly how Clem was introduced to us, so it only seems right that her ending for us was full circle. Therefore after an emotional battle in the beginning half of the last episode, it is then that we see Clem get bitten. Leaving AJ to make the gut-wrenching choice to go with her wishes and end her life, or leave her to turn and stay with her so she isn’t alone.

Clementines Realisation Of The Walker Bite.

The End.

After making the choice to either kill Clem or leave her to turn, the screen goes black. That’s when the tears fall. When we say goodbye to the strong amazing young girl we helped to grow and become who she really was.

The final moments of TWD final episode 4, before players are playing as AJ. You get one last chance to play as Clementine and you rescue AJ from the infamous Macaroll Ranch.

When you take over as AJ you will see all of the survivors of the Erikson School, who you have left depends on your gameplay. AJ walks back to the school after fishing and sees all his new family getting ready for a meal. Finally as AJ arrives at the school, we hear Clem’s voice. The camera pans allowing for Clemnetine to enter view and we see how she is still alive.

Tears flow as we realise, Clementine got the happiest of endings we could have hoped for. So as the credits begin to roll, and players reminisce on the whole franchise. We can all be thankful for having the chance to play and to be a part of this world. In summary, TellTale and Skybound created a masterpiece. In my opinion, very few games can affect you, and touch your heart like Clementines’ story.

We Will Miss You Clementine.
Clementine Will Remember That.

Is it me, or does Overkill and 505 Games’ take on The Walking Dead look like it’s shaping up to be a quality title? No, there’s no gameplay in this new trailer, but it feels like it’s heading in the right direction.

The dead live

As a franchise, The Walking Dead has had a spotty time in the video game realm. Okay, that might be understating it. Because outside of Telltale’s adventure game series, there’s been nothing at all of note. Till now anyway.

The Walking Dead from developer Starbreeze’s Overkill studio looks shockingly good. And yes, again, I realize there’s no gameplay in this trailer. What we do get to see though is one of the playable characters, for former ER nurse Maya.

What’s so great here though is the atmosphere, which is dark and very mature looking, as we get a peek at the earliest days of the apocalypse. Of course, the other great thing about this trailer are the graphics. Cause, man do they look great.

Outside of that, we actually have quite a few details on this one. Maya will be joined by Aiden, the second of four playable characters. The title is being billed as “a mission-based, four-player co-op multiplayer FPS inspired by the danger, action and terror of Robert Kirkman’s original graphic novels”.

Yes, that sounds a lot like it’ll be a fresh take on the classic Left 4 Dead. But there are a few further details that have it sounding like a game that’ll offer just a bit more in terms of things to do.

Players must band together using a combination of stealth tactics and brute force on a variety of raids and missions, securing supplies and survivors to defend their home and stay alive. Each playable character has their own special abilities, skill trees, squad roles, play styles and background stories – smash through hordes of walkers with the heavy-hitting Aidan, or keep your friends alive with Maya, a former surgeon.

Watch for The Walking Dead to stalk the PS4, Xbox One, and PC this fall.

Visions, shrubbery, a door from nowhere, and of course, walkers- here’s the first few minutes of Michonne kicking ass in The Walking Dead: Michonne.

Slightly gory. Just a lil’. Of course, if you expected anything else, then you might not be much of a Walking Dead fan.

Centering on one of the most popular TWD characters, The Walking Dead: Michonne follows the katana-swinging badass as she carves her way through hordes of walkers (zombies for the uninitiated). And it also looks like it includes what looks like a healthy dose of back-story too, which should be interesting.

This isn’t an origin story though, as The Walking Dead: Michonne instead tells the story of what happened to take the character away from Rick and the rest of the survivors you all know and love, as well as what eventually brought her back. And it looks like there’ll be plenty of QTE’s to keep you on your toes too.

The Walking Dead: Michonne is a three episode series, and will hit with episode 1 ‘In Too Deep’ on February 23rd.

ComiXology is offering up some zombie-comic reading for more than 50% off.

What better time to have a sale on one of the most mature and fear-filled comics out there than just before Halloween? ComiXology has a good chunk of the run of Image Comics and Skybound’s The Walking Dead on sale right now through the 13th of this month and the price tags are anything but scary.

The first 126 issues of the monthly comic are on sale for just .99 cents each which, if you know the cost of a comic these days, is pretty terrific. You’ll also find a bunch of collections of the books on sale via comiXology, and the issue 1-50 and 51-100 sets are only $39.99 USD too, which comes to be a savings of $50.00 USD off the asking price of each. That’s more than a solid sale and, if you’ve never taken the time to pick up the comic that started the craze and kicked off the TV show, it’s well worth your time- particularly if you are a fan of that show and haven’t read the books as of yet.

“ComiXology is giving new and die-hard The Walking Dead fans worldwide a chance to experience my original vision from the very first issue,” said Robert Kirkman, creator and writer of The Walking Dead and writer/Executive Producer of The Walking Dead AMC TV show. “These discounted issues, collections and bundles make it easy for new-comers to The Walking Dead comic to jump in headlong, especially with comiXology’s awesome reading experience!”

“Fans of The Walking Dead TV show: we challenge you to try out the epic comic series during this amazing sales event,” said comiXology co-founder and CEO, David Steinberger. “With more than 120 issues, more than 20 collections and 2 super-sized bundles to get you started on the epic saga of The Walking Dead comic series, this sale is a not-to-be-missed event.”

You may not realize it, but The Walking Dead is a Skybound Entertainment (an Image imprint) property. Now DST has Minimates based on two more of the publishers books on the way with minifigures based on both Invincible and Thief of Thieves.

Both properties are hits in their own rights and Invincible in particular has been on the racks for a good long time now. The book recently hit the century mark at 100 issues and is right there with Bob Kirkman’s The Walking Dead as a mega-hit for the creator.

Kirkman’s other book, Thief of Thieves, may not have the history of TWD and Invincible, but it’s no less a fan favorite. It’s also just as unique as the other two.

Telling the story of Mark Grayson, the son of an alien superhero, Invincible follows Mark as he develops his own powers, discovers the truth about his father, and becomes a superhero in his own right. The first set of four Minimates, designed by Art Asylum, includes Invincible, his father Omni-Man, his super-powered love interest Atom Eve and his frequent sparring partner Allen the Alien. Each Minimate stands 2 inches tall with 14 points of articulation, interchangeable parts and a flight stand.

With Walking Dead Minimates on shelves and Invincible Minimates in the works, it was with a no-brainer to make Minimates of Kirkman’s other hot comic, Thief of Thieves! With a rotating team of writers and a TV pilot in development at AMC, Thief follows professional burglar Redmond as he attempts to use his abilities for good. This four-pack includes main character Redmond, his apprentice Celia, his son Augustus and FBI agent Cohen, and each fully articulated 2-inch Minimate comes with a variety of interchangeable parts and accessories.

Both four-figure sets are expected to be in stores this Fall and can be preordered at your favorite comic shop right now!
