The process of obtaining UK citizenship, especially these final steps, have impressed on us forcefully the oddity and arbitrariness of ‘borders’ and ‘nationality’ — especially (a) in this hypercharged cultural moment and (b) since we more truly are not citizens of any mortal realm. This intensifies the irony of the latter circumstance, living in a country where ours is the established church; but here we are, and I guess that holding two passports relativises the feverish importance of either one. And as an anarcho-monarchist, His Majesty being the focus of the whole drama was alright with me.

I agree that being forced to accept cookies for clues you already paid for is an odd start to a puzzle.

Thank you, Judy, one of my most generous (appreciative) readers —

In fact, I had the impulse to share it with Pat Keifert. But I expect he’s listening into all the good ones these days. The folks here on earth getting to hear it were lucky indeed.

Thank you for that generous sentiment. I reckon I don’t have a reliable perspective on my own work.

Hey, Chris — I’m saddened to hear of your mother-in-law’s death. Lovely and peaceful is good, and death will come eventually, but it brings sadness.

I have a couple of subscriptions that I just have to kick out of my feed reader, feeds that are very good but which generate a lot of little or technical posts, a sizeable proportion of which don’t interest me at all. Plus, part of my brain seems to associate feeds with the social media that I’m always fighting to minimise as an aspect of my day. But I’m a better netizen if I keep up with friends, especially long-time friends, and RSS helps with that.
