Beer and Banter

Famous Cons

Tue, 23 Apr 2019 16:00:00 +0000

What does peanut butter rubbed through shag carpet, the Eiffel Tower, and Mike Pence have in common?... Yeah, Josh and Sass don't know either but that didn't stop them from bantering about that even though the topic was famous cons… This episode went off the rails but take a listen, leave a comment, and share with your friends. This week Josh tries out Taft Brewing Co's Key Lime Caribbean-Style Ale. Sass downs a nostalgic Czech-Style Tmave Pivo from Pedal Haus Brewery.

Disgraced Celebrities

Tue, 09 Apr 2019 16:00:00 +0000

Leaked sex tapes, spiked drinks, and shat upon melons? This week Josh and Sass break down some of their favorite and most notorious scandals to ever grace the world of Hollywood. Still 3 time zones apart so the guys try separate beers. Josh drinks a trip into the unique with Platform's Chocolate Donut Banana IPA. Sass continues with his beer tour of Arizona with Old Bisbee Brewing's Pomegranate Hazy NE IPA. Take a listen!

Medical Marvels

Tue, 19 Mar 2019 14:35:40 +0000

It's been two weeks, so that means two more beers! Ever wonder what a hemiglossectomy was or what how a face transplant works? Take a listen as Josh and Sass delve into the sometimes-tragic world of medical marvels. Because the guys are states and – more tiringly – three time zones apart, synchronizing the beer has been an issue but they got similarly themed beer. Josh tries Unveiled Brewing's mango IPA while Sass drinks Mudshark's orange wheat, Full Moon.

How to Drink

Tue, 05 Mar 2019 17:00:00 +0000

We may have missed a week, but we think the wait is well worth it. We kick off our long-distance relationship recording with two different beers while we discuss our rules on how to drink and somehow get to Optimus Prime Handjobs? Take a listen while Josh enjoys Rogue's award-winning Shakespeare Oatmeal Stout while Sass rates Odell Brewing's Cutthroat Porter!

Resilience & No Hope

Fri, 08 Feb 2019 02:20:51 +0000

A long time ago in a suburb far, far away… Josh and Sass were given no hope of not becoming giant nerds. The guys take an introspective look at the childhood hobbies and habits that made them the nerds they are today! This will be the last shared studio recording for a while since Sass is making the grand trek to Arizona. Don't worry, the guys will still record via teleconference. Take a listen while the guys enjoy a charitable IPA from Sierra Nevada, Resilience.

Night Visions & Transgender Pt. 2

Tue, 22 Jan 2019 17:00:00 +0000

After a much needed, yet unplanned, hiatus – Beer and Banter is BACK for season 2! B&B have some great changes coming and we can't wait to hear what you think about them. ALSO, WE ARE ON SPOTIFY NOW. Find us wherever you listen to your podcasts. Take a listen while we update and learn more from our transbassador, Alex. The guys enjoy ATG's Night Visions, a Kolsch collab. What better way to ring in the new season than with old friends and great beer?

We have a new theme song that Fat Box was gracious enough to let us use, everyone, go show your support to this great band by giving them a listen as well!

Cappuccino Oatmeal Stout & Pop Culture Perspectives

Tue, 23 Oct 2018 20:26:54 +0000

As we age and become more cynical, our view on pop culture changes. Josh and Sass take time to discuss some of these changes they've noticed and some differences they have caught on in beloved movies. Much like our pop culture views have transformed, as have our beer taste. This episode the guys try Blue Moon's Limited Release Cappuccino Oatmeal Stout.

BG Bourbon & Brewfest

Tue, 16 Oct 2018 17:10:08 +0000

This weekend the Beer & Banter crew tried their hand at live-streaming at Bowling Green Bourbon and Brewfest. What a learning experience for us and a truly great event that we were proud to be a part of. The audio quality was affected a bit by the new media, so bear with us. Our episode this week includes the audio from the live feed you can find on Bowling Green Bourbon and Brewfest's Facebook page if you'd rather look at our mugs. In this episode, we cover the festival and interview several breweries and even the infamous distiller, Four Roses. We got to meet with some of our favorite brewers including White Squirrel Brewery, Blake's Hard Cider, and B&B veterans Mill Creek Brewing Co and Tennessee Brew Works.

Dark Knife & Zombie Survival

Tue, 09 Oct 2018 17:31:55 +0000

It's finally spook season! Last year, we discussed the history and pop-culture significance of Zombies. This year, the guys discuss their zombie survival theories along with some general tips. The guys finally take a stab at a pumpkin beer with Elysian's Dark Knife, an interesting spin on a style of beer Josh and Sass tend to avoid. Take a listen!

Schlafly Oktoberfest & Would You Rather

Tue, 02 Oct 2018 17:25:59 +0000

It's finally October which means we will be coming at you with many autumn-themed episodes. The first episode in this series looks at a fall tradition, getting together with your friends for a slumber party, getting drunk and playing Would You Rather. Josh and Sass pose several traditional Would You Rather questions and some… less than traditional. Now we ask, would you rather drink from a pint or the bottle? This week's beer is from Schlafly and is a celebration of the traditional Oktoberfest Märzen, a perfect autumnal beer.

Four Beers & Lightning Round Rants

Tue, 25 Sep 2018 18:52:42 +0000

Welcome, to Bitchfest 2018! This is a lightning round of short topics Josh and Sass couldn't fit into a full episode but really wanted to rant on. To keep with the tried and true Beer and Banter format©, the guys have a beer for each topic. Four beers from four brewers including Evil Twin Brewing's Even More Jesus, Gaelic Ale from Highland Brewing, Hopzeit Autumn IPA from Deschutes, and Falls City's Streetlamp. Tons of beer and even more ranting, take a listen!

Jai Alai & Delicacies

Tue, 18 Sep 2018 16:12:19 +0000

It's been a while since we have done a truly disgusting episode. Take a listen while Josh and Sass discuss some of the vilest international delicacies that humans have ever created. Warning: Do not listen to this episode while eating. The guys bravely stomach a delicious gem of an IPA from Cigar City Brewing called Jai Alai! Don't forget to add us on Snapchat, beer.banter.

Bean Flicker & Advertisements

Tue, 11 Sep 2018 17:34:44 +0000

Can we have an episode on advertisements without advertising something that benefits us? The answer is no, we are proud to announce at this year's upcoming Bourbon and Brewfest (October 13th) the Beer and Banter crew will be on location broadcasting a live episode as well as being active on our Instagram, facebook, and now, our Snapchat! Roar & the Geneva Convention

Tue, 04 Sep 2018 16:49:38 +0000

A week ago, we were reminded of the importance of the conventions with the passing of an American Hero, John McCain. While discussing these international laws, the guys enjoy Rhinegeist's imperial pale ale, Roar. This was a seriously good beer to come back to! Take a listen!

Shotgun Wedding & Hangover Cures

Wed, 01 Aug 2018 00:41:15 +0000

We love revisiting old episodes and in this episode, the guys test four more hangover cures; pickle juice, hair of the dog, exercise, and, our sponsor, Happy Hour Vitamin! The guys try a local brewer Country Boy Brewing s fantastic brown ale aged on vanilla, Shotgun Wedding.

For instance, would Billy Eichner's character Craig from Parks and Rec beat Rainn Wilson's character from the Office? Take a listen to this week's episode covering our most coveted battle royale deathmatches and a few we knew needed to be covered, like Goku vs Superman. The guys down a delicious fruit ale from Boulevard called Jam Band.

Mixed Media & Reality TV

Tue, 10 Jul 2018 16:36:50 +0000

Channeling our inner trashiness, Sass and Josh cover the lewd topic of reality television. Only the classiest of reality TV has massive amounts of drunkenness and vomiting, the same could be said of podcasts which is why Beer & Banter continues to produce quality entertainment. Flowing through the episode is Dogfish Head's Mixed Media, demonstrating that not only can TV mesh medias together – though tacky - but so can beer. Can this style of vino-esque live up to the example TV has set?

Queen of the Seven Kingdoms & Gladiators

Tue, 03 Jul 2018 15:56:36 +0000

We who are about to drink salute you! That's right, this week the guys are discussing the ancient warrior rockstars known as gladiators. Josh and Sass share as much as two unqualified men can about these slaves turned warriors even creating their own battle royale between pop culture figures. Sticking with the theme of trial by combat, the guys enjoy the limited release Queen of the Seven Kingdoms from Ommegang.

Space Dust & the Planets

Tue, 26 Jun 2018 18:44:42 +0000

Space: the final frontier. These are the episodes of the podcast Beer & Banters. This week's mission: to explore our strange solar system; to seek out new colonizable planets; to boldly go where no podcast has gone before. That's right, this week the guys try to find a new planet for when we inevitably destroy Earth. We describe the conditions necessary for each planet, some dwarf planets, and an exoplanet or two to sustain an Earth colony. Appropriately, the guys enjoy Elysian's Space Dust IPA.

Summertrip & Fatherhood

Tue, 19 Jun 2018 18:53:43 +0000

We are back! Had to knock some rust off from not recording for 5 weeks to give Josh time to be a dad, but we are back and stronger than ever. Coming off Josh's first Father's Day - full of amazing gifts, the matching shirts pictured below were one of many - the guys discuss fatherhood; covering the many aspects of being a father, as well as ranking famous and historical fathers. Take a listen as Josh and Sass debate Shit-Tier vs. God-Tier fathers while drinking a stellar seasonal release beer from one of our favorite local brewers Braxton Brewing Company; Summertrip.

The Waldos' & Films vs. the Test of Time

Tue, 05 Jun 2018 18:16:36 +0000

Some things do not stand the test of time like David Hasselhoff's music, milk, and many beloved films. When looking back at films and tv series, one tends to have rose colored glasses. The Beer and Banter hosts attempt to knock those glasses off and look at these older films in all their casually bigoted glory. Not all the films have random racism mixed in for laugh, but for one reason or another, the films no longer hold up. Take a listen as Josh and Sass delve into this week's topic while enjoying Lagunitas The Waldos' Special Ale.

Resin & Social Norms

Tue, 29 May 2018 17:40:13 +0000

This week the guys discuss the various social norms our culture follows blindly in the hope of shedding some light on them and, hopefully, creating some interesting counterarguments to them. This episode contains one of the most divisive topics for Josh and Sass… the Lasagna Quarrel. As what is being labeled as #RavioliGate, the duo come to an uneasy agreement and save the show from complete destruction. Take a listen as the guys enjoy Sixpoint's double IPA Resin and attempt to tackle some of the social norms we hope to see go by the wayside.

Stateside Saison & Trans

Tue, 22 May 2018 17:45:28 +0000

This week on Beer and Banter we covered one of the most important topics of our short history, Transgender. We invited Alex, a longtime friend who happens to be a transman, to walk us through his journey and share his insight into the trans community. While discussing the guys enjoy Stillwater Artisanal Stateside Saison; a type of beer the hosts are a bit ignorant of, very similar to their ignorance on this week's topic!

Midas Touch & Terrible Ways to Die

Tue, 15 May 2018 17:27:25 +0000

This week's episode is super morbid and kind of sad. To counter it, here's one of the B&B pups, Stella being super adorable. So as Josh and Sass discuss some incredibly terrible ways to die you can think about this pupper being all cute and stuff. Or you could drink the terrible thoughts away like us with @dogfishhead 's ancient ale, Midas Touch - seeing as King Midas also died terribly... Check out this week's episode! #beer #podcast #doggo #dogfishhead #death #DrinktheSadnessAway . . . Thanks again to @ohio_candle_factory! Go check them out!

Ephémère & Flat Eathers Revisit

Tue, 08 May 2018 16:45:10 +0000

One full year, 53 weeks and 53 episodes! Granted Josh and Sass have been foolish together for years – as seen in one of Josh's wedding photos, they've only been recording the foolishness this past year. We have covered dozens of topics and drank almost 7 gallons of beer – that's just on the show! Take a listen as we revisit one of our debut topics, Flat Earthers while drinking Unibroue 's Éphémère Pomme. The show also covers what is to come as Josh has his first kid in the coming days and Sass is shipped off for training. #beer #podcast #BeerandBanter #unibroue #anniversary #podcast #flatearth #HaveNotBeenKickedOfftheAirYet . . . We do a 100% local episode with a Kentucky beer from @woodencaskbrewing called Kentucky Farmhand American Wheat and we have not one but TWO special guests. This week we were joined by Elise and @mad_jane, the Artistic and Education Director and Music Director for @BGOnStage. Take a listen while Josh and Sass learn about theater and attempt to get Sassy a dialect coach. #beer #podcast #BeerandBanter #woodencaskbrewing #BGOnStage #AmericanWheat #theater #SassyisStillBadAtImpressions #Community . . . Tue, 17 Apr 2018 18:42:10 +0000

Sometimes you stay up late at night editing a podcast, sometimes you eat ice cream and beer for lunch, and sometimes you spend way too long trying to get a Boomerang juuuust right… and failing. Adulthood is weird and nowhere near what anyone was expecting. Josh and Sass cover a few of the misconceptions of adulthood while drinking an adult beverage combined with a childhood favorite – beer and ice cream. The whimsy of @graeters ice cream mixed with the brilliance of @braxtonbrewco, Braxton + Graeter's Black Raspberry Chocolate Chip Milk Stout. #beer #podcast #BeerandBanter #braxtonbrewing #graeters #icecreamforlunch #iamanadult #adulting #lifesucksthenyoudie

Dirt Wolf & Mythical Creatures

Tue, 10 Apr 2018 16:59:34 +0000

Nothing like having a guest and good friend in the studio, especially when he brings his own topic and beer is involved! Mystical Mike suggested we cover strange and mythical creatures while we shared @victorybeer 's Double IPA Dirt Wolf – a mythical hoppy beast of its own. Check out this week's episode on iTunes, Soundcloud, Google Play, et al. and comment or DM us a topic you'd like us to cover. Cheers!

Ryan and the Gosling & Where Are They Now

Tue, 03 Apr 2018 17:05:58 +0000

This week we cover some stars who have lost their luster… some might call them washed up. Here we see two washed up podcast stars, Josh and Sass, getting washed up. They couldn't handle the fame and the very thing that made them – beer and talking while drinking beer – would be their demise. The guys cover several fallen stars and do some half decent impressions while enjoying a beer inspired by an actor who is not washed up – though many would like to watch him washing – Ryan and the Gosling from @eviltwinbrewing. Also, check out Macauley Culkin's podcast, @bunnyears! #beer #podcast #BeerandBanter #eviltwin #rubbadubdub #showerbeer #garybusey #ryangosling #kevinmccallister

The guys cover piracy through the ages and the life and times of two incredibly infamous pirates. The guys enjoyed the appropriately-themed Imperial Stout Peg Leg from @highseas. Now someone do us a favor and blow us down? (That's the phrase… right?)

Dirty Bastard & Founding Fathers

Tue, 06 Mar 2018 18:34:09 +0000

We the Hosts of the Beer & Banter Program, in order to create a more perfect podcast, establish Ratings, insure domestic Drunkenness, provide for the crafty defense, and secure the Blessings of Liberty to our beers and our Episodes, do ordain and establish this Episode about obscure Founding Fathers of the United States of America. Guess you'll have to listen to find out. Sorry to everyone outside of Kentucky, this brewer is strictly local. Take a listen and don't forget to like them on Facebook and Instagram. #beer #podcast #BeerandBanter #WestSixth #lexington #MobeamDreams #KYProud

How do you celebrate Valentine's Day? Eating your weight in chocolate? Buying as many cliched roses as possible? Drowning your sorrows with booze? Swiping on tinder for the fleeting chance of finding someone as desperate as you? No? Just us, I guess. Join Josh and Sass as they discuss or doing all the above while drinking Young's Double Chocolate Stout. We cooled the beers with something as cold as our hearts… dry ice!

Pivot Brewing

Tue, 06 Feb 2018 18:41:13 +0000

Josh and Sass sat down with Bevin from Pivot Brewing with the most controversial episode yet because… the guys rated cider. Should we call this episode Cider and Banter? But seriously, Pivot – based out of Lexington, KY - is doing some amazing things that we had no idea cider could do, they also brew beer so the episode is not entirely blasphemous. Check out this week's episode and follow Pivot on Instagram. Available on iTunes, Google Play, Soundcloud and tons of other Podcast Directories. #beer #cider #podcast #beerandbanter #lexington

Josh and Sass know so much about dangerous situations their middle names are actually Danger… it was a very popular middle name in the early '90s. While discussing various survival situations, the guys have MadTree Brewing's Entropic Theory IPA. In science, entropy refers to disorder, in beer, it refers to a solid IPA.

Mill Creek & Aliens

Tue, 12 Dec 2017 21:03:15 +0000

Scary Jesus Rock Star & Zombies

Tue, 17 Oct 2017 19:57:29 +0000

Don't lie, you secretly wish there was a zombie apocalypse. The Beer and Banter guys dive into Josh's topic, zombies. Zombies are entrenched within pop culture meaning Josh has never been more prepared for an episode, good thing we gave him plenty of booze to try and cancel that out. Sassy does his best impression of a zombie while he fights through strep throat in this episode but the show must go on. We could have talked for hours on this topic so if you think we missed anything vital leave a comment.

Did you know that Vikings didn't actually wear the horned helmets we associate with them? Neither did the Beer & Banter guys. That didn't stop them from wearing a matching set while recording the episode. This week the guys explore the Vikings; their expansion, culture, and religion – among other subjects. To keep with the Viking's tradition of drinking high alcohol content mead, the guys drink Viking Blod Mead from a recipe from the 1700s. This is a massive subject meaning it took longer to record… also meaning the guys drank more. By the end of the episode, Sassy becomes less coherent making for some interesting commentary but a realistic discussion of Vikings in true Viking form. Take a listen, share with your friends, and send us your suggestions for new topics!

Tank 7 & Milestones

Tue, 19 Sep 2017 20:01:55 +0000

The guys bring on their accountant and man of many experiences, Drew, to help them discuss the many milestones throughout everyone's life. Shout out to Adam the Yeti for bringing us the beer – Tank 7 – from his trip to Kansas City where he visited Boulevard Brewing Co. We couldn't do this show without the support from our friends, if you want to hear a topic or a beer on the show message us!

Dragon's Milk & Dungeons and Dragons

Tue, 12 Sep 2017 20:14:55 +0000

The internet and this podcast are powered by cats but this week's episode is powered by imagination… and Mountain Dew and pizza. Yes, this week Josh and Sass jump into the fantasy world of the famous tabletop game, Dungeons & Dragons. What better beer to sample than one milked from a dragon? The guys conquered New Holland Brewing Co.'s Dragon Milk while explaining some of the mechanics, rules, and reminisce about past games. There are so many pop culture references, we couldn't fit them into one episode. But the guys ask the real tough questions today like: If you could have a D&D session with any 5 people who would they be? Other than Josh and Sass, obviously. Our picks? Dan Harmon (HarmonQuest and Rick and Morty), Sasha Grey, Thomas Middleditch (Silicon Valley), Stephen Colbert, and Vin Diesel.

Four Beers & Tailgating

Tue, 05 Sep 2017 17:41:38 +0000

Football season is upon us and the Beer and Banter guys were on location Saturday for the Home Season opener for Western Kentucky University. Our minds are constantly in the gutter and in this episode, we actually recorded in a gutter. It seemed fitting. The guys invited their resident tailgating and history expert, Chris, to join them while they explored the entertaining world of tailgating. The episode has some interesting background noises; party-goers, cornhole, beers being shotgunned, and music so be warned! Thank you to Chris and his family for being amazing hosts and offering us plenty of food, fun, and – most importantly – beer. {If you're wondering what happened to Sassy's computer afterward, it was just sticky. No damage was done but let that be a warning to us all. Shotgunning beers and electronics do NOT mix.}

Nocturnum & Bucket Lists

Tue, 29 Aug 2017 16:39:50 +0000

This week the guys are joined by a girl, Ellie. First girl on the show! Very exciting. The group discusses bucket lists; what's on theirs, what is on the average person's list, and obviously, the movie The Bucket List. On everyone's list should be to drink more good beer, like Delirium Brewery's Nocturnum. Take a listen and let us know what's on your list!

While covering this topic, the guys drink Ommegang's Three Philosophers; a befitting beer for our three hosts

Spotted Cow & War Inventions

Tue, 08 Aug 2017 19:05:43 +0000

Necessity is the mother of invention and in war, needs vary widely. Every war brings new technology to aid the troops but some of the inventions found their way into the civilian world when the wars were won. Josh and Sass discuss the inventions that have stood the test of time, including everyone's favorites: Nutella and Duck Tape… We wouldn't recommend using those two together… but if you do please post a picture. The guys enjoy a phenomenal beer, New Glarus Brewing's Spotted Cow. You can only get this beer from the great state of Wisconsin. Big shout out to Louderback for bringing the beer back with him for us! Put on your hats, kiddos, you're gonna learn something today.

Join Sass and Josh as they delve into their darkest topic to date: cannibalism. They cover the history, different types of cannibalism, and the most famous cannibals. In an attempt to match the murkiness of the topic, the guys drink Mississippi Mud Black & Tan Beer. Drinking was required to get through this gruesome topic. Prepare to be informed!
