The Thai Meteorological Department has issued its ninth alert for intense summer storms across upper Thailand, with hazardous conditions forecast until April 20.

The storms are expected to bring heavy rain, strong winds, hail, and lightning to Bangkok and dozens of provinces across the north, northeast, east, and central regions. Moist southern and southeastern winds drawing in from the Gulf of Thailand and the South China Sea are driving the thunderstorms, compounded by the ongoing hot to extremely hot conditions across the region.

Residents are urged to avoid open areas, large trees, unstable structures, and billboards during the storms. Farmers are advised to reinforce crops and take steps to protect livestock and agricultural products from potential damage. Health precautions are also recommended given the rapidly changing conditions.

For updates, residents can visit the Thai Meteorological Department’s website at www.tmd.go.th or call 0-2399-4012-13 or 1182, both available 24/7. The alert was issued yesterday at 5pm.

Thailand’s Meteorological Department has warned of severe weather tomorrow, with thunderstorms, hail, and strong winds forecast across 40 provinces, with the northeast among the worst-affected regions.

Over the next 24 hours, the upper part of Thailand will experience hot daytime weather. Rainfall is set to increase in the northeast and east, with thunderstorms, strong winds, and occasional hail forecast for the lower north, northeast, central, and eastern areas.

The unsettled conditions are driven by a low-pressure heat system over upper Thailand, combined with stronger southerly and southeasterly winds drawing moisture from the South China Sea and the Gulf of Thailand. Residents should avoid open spaces, large trees, unstable structures, and billboards. Farmers are advised to reinforce fruit trees and take steps to protect crops and livestock. With hot weather persisting, maintaining good health is also recommended.

In the south, scattered thunderstorms are expected due to southeasterly winds over the Gulf of Thailand, the southern region, and the Andaman Sea. Waves will reach about 1 metre, rising above 2 metres in stormy conditions. Mariners in both the Gulf of Thailand and the Andaman Sea should exercise caution and avoid sailing in thunderstorm-prone areas.

Thailand’s Meteorological Department has forecast that upper Thailand will continue to experience thunderstorms and strong winds tomorrow, with 41 provinces, including Bangkok, expected to be affected.

On March 6, the department released its weather forecast for the next 24 hours, warning that a summer storm will bring thunderstorms, strong winds, and isolated lightning strikes to upper Thailand. The conditions are driven by a high-pressure system from China covering northeastern Thailand and the South China Sea, pushing southerly and southeasterly winds to carry moisture from the South China Sea and the Gulf of Thailand over upper Thailand.

The convergence of southwesterly and southeasterly winds is expected over the lower central region, the east, and the lower northeastern region. Residents are advised to avoid open areas, large trees, weak structures, and unstable billboards.

Farmers are urged to strengthen fruit trees and prepare to protect agricultural produce and livestock from potential damage.

The southern region will see increased rainfall and strong winds due to strengthening easterly and southeasterly winds over the Gulf of Thailand, combined with westerly winds over the Andaman Sea. Waves in the lower Gulf of Thailand may reach 1 to 2 metres, with thunderstorm areas seeing waves exceeding two metres. Mariners in both the Gulf of Thailand and the Andaman Sea should avoid sailing in thunderstorm-affected areas.

Dust levels in the north, central region, including Bangkok and its vicinity, and the east remain moderate to high due to weak to moderate air circulation.
