On Aug 31, 2026, members of the AYLUS Scottsdale Branch volunteered at Summer clothes donation in Scottsdale, Arizona.
AYLUS sends warmth and saves lives! Our branch will organize a clothes donation to charitable organizations. Members are requested to collect new, used, but still clean clothes for adults and children from their homes, neighbors and friends, fold them into large plastic bags, paste the AYLUS logo on the outside, and donate them to local charities such as: Savers, Goodwill. Parents need to take photos for the kids who donate the clothes.
Through their service, the volunteers supported the local community while demonstrating teamwork, responsibility, and youth leadership.

On Wednesday, September 9, 2026, AYLUS volunteers visited Bristol Village Assisted Living and Memory Care from 6:00 to 7:30 PM for our first fall session.
Volunteers performed opera, violin, and piano pieces, then spent time doing puzzles, playing poker, and chatting with the residents. Our volunteers brought warmth and companionship to the seniors, creating meaningful connections and sharing a joyful evening together.
We also took some time to ask the residents what they would enjoy for our special Thanksgiving session in November, so we can plan activities they will truly look forward to.

By the end of the evening, it was evident that the event had created something truly special: a stronger sense of community, mutual appreciation, and lasting memories that both the residents and student volunteers would cherish long after the final note was played.

At the start, the residents and the volunteers played connect four with the residents. After that, the residents and the volunteers began to bake cookies. The residents did a wonderful job of preparing and mixing the batter to make the cookies. After setting the cookie dough into the oven, we did arts & crafts. The volunteers helped the residents make party hats since it was one of the residents birthdays that week. After the residents were done making the hats, they moved on to playing with bingo. After doing that for a little bit, the cookies finished baking, and everyone enjoyed some. Volunteering at CP Nassau continues to be a rewarding experience for us. It allows us to connect with individuals with disabilities, offering companionship and support while also encouraging patience, empathy, and teamwork.
We look forward to our next visit and another opportunity to bring smiles to the residents of CP Nassau!

From August 24–28, 2026, the Hand in Hand We Grow (HHWG) Team partnered with 425 Speaks to offer a five-day, in-person Public Speaking Workshop focused on Business Topics at an Eastside fire station. The workshop was designed to help students develop foundational public speaking skills while learning how to communicate effectively in business-related situations.
Drawing on their knowledge and experience from participating in DECA competitions, the instructors introduced students to practical public speaking techniques, including impromptu speaking, storytelling, body language, voice modulation, presentation design, improvisation, and business roleplays.
The workshop was held from 4:00–6:00 PM each day, with Eric Huang serving as the lead instructor. In addition to the scheduled class time, Eric spent approximately one additional hour before and after each session answering questions, providing individualized guidance, and helping students with their homework and presentations.
Day 1 – August 24
Eric and Deyansh began the workshop with icebreakers to help students get to know one another and feel comfortable speaking in front of the group. Students then participated in team-building public speaking games centered around common business situations and problems.
The students were introduced to Table Topics, a format commonly used to practice impromptu speaking. Each student delivered a one- to two-minute speech in response to prompts related to careers, products, services, and other business topics.
Following a 10-minute snack break, students participated in a storytelling game designed to encourage creativity, spontaneity, and confidence. Several students demonstrated particularly strong comedic and storytelling skills.
To conclude the first day, Eric introduced the main presentation that students would deliver on Friday. Each student selected a topic and began developing ideas for their individual presentations.

Because of the number of participants and the goal of allowing every student sufficient time to present, the class was extended by an additional 30 minutes. This ensured that every student had the opportunity to complete their presentation and receive feedback.
Throughout the five-day workshop, students gained practical experience in public speaking while developing communication, presentation, improvisation, and business problem-solving skills. The workshop also gave students an opportunity to apply skills and strategies drawn from competitive DECA experiences to real-world communication situations.

The mix of cute assortments of animals like octopuses, penguins, ducks, and rabbits, which could be turned into a keychain, really shone through at the stall. The octopus and penguins really stood out among the animals, as they were the most popular items being bought by customers. People in the community were able to check out the stall with our handmade crafts, get their face painted, purchase balloon animals or play the ring toss with a chance of winning a prize. The farmers market began at 9 am, but some of our volunteers got to fire fighter park to set up at 8:30am, setting up tables and stands and arranging the items for sale. As the event runs from 9-1, the work is split into 2 separate shifts of 2 hours each.
Each shift includes people who focus on being cashiers, calculating profits and noting them for future reference; on-site crocheting to produce more goods during the farmers market while showing buyers what happens behind the scene; face painting for the children to enjoy; ring toss activity; and balloon makers who provide cute balloon animals. Overall, the farmers market was a huge success for AYLUS. The sale of crochet items and the face painting drew a lot of participation, as always. The balloon animals – which were made on the spot by volunteers – were loved by everyone who visited the farmers’ market, especially the balloon puppy. The majority of the profits from selling handcrafted and other items will be donated to the nonprofit Adventures in Learning, which helps underprivileged students and children with care, enrichment, literacy, math, and more.

On November 18, 2021, Sky Tianyi Han initiated the formation of the 101st branch of the American Youth Leadership United Service (AYLUS) at Panther Creek High School (PC High School) in North Carolina. Joining Sky as founders were Michael Yang, Chenkai Gu, and Ria Wu.
Teh AYLUS Triangle Branch (AYLUS NC) consists of students from Panther Creek H.S, Green Level H.S. and Green Hope H.S. The branch’s mission is to initiate community service projects that benefit the local area and beyond. It offers numerous leadership and volunteering opportunities, fostering a spirit of civic engagement and community building.
AYLUS Triangle Branch members actively engage in various community volunteer activities, including environmental conservation, music performances for elderly homes, artistic endeavors, public speaking, and fundraising for cancer patients. We participate in activities such as environmental clean-ups, providing musical entertainment to the elderly, organizing art workshops, delivering public speeches, and fundraising initiatives. These efforts not only enhance community environments and quality of life but also cultivate communication skills, leadership qualities, and a strong sense of social responsibility among members. By serving as role models in schools and communities, we contribute positively to personal growth and impact others’ lives in meaningful ways.
Through these activities, members develop communication skills, leadership qualities, and a heightened awareness of social responsibility, aiming to become exemplary leaders within their school and community. Personal growth and making a positive impact on others’ lives are central to our mission.

Members collected more than 100 pieces of clothing, including shirts, pants, jackets, sweaters, and other everyday essentials for children and adults. Before the donation was delivered, volunteers carefully inspected each item to ensure it was clean, in good condition, and suitable for use. The clothing was then neatly folded, organized by type and size, and packed to help ECLC staff distribute the donations efficiently to those who need them most.
On the morning of September 6, 2026, AYLUS members delivered the organized donations to ECLC. The clothing will directly benefit individuals with disabilities and their families, helping provide practical necessities while easing financial burdens. The donation also promotes environmental sustainability by extending the life of gently used clothing and reducing textile waste.
This project gave AYLUS members an opportunity to practice teamwork, organization, and compassionate service. By supporting ECLC’s mission of empowering individuals with special needs to achieve greater independence and participate fully in their communities, members learned how small acts of kindness can have a meaningful impact. AYLUS Morris Branch is grateful for the opportunity to collaborate with ECLC and looks forward to continuing this partnership through future service projects that strengthen our community and improve the lives of those we serve.

]]>During the project, volunteers followed the river and worked on two different sections of the trail. They helped repair and improve the paths by clearing obstacles, flattening uneven areas, and covering wood chips, making the trails easier to walk on. The group cooperated closely, allowing the trails to be worked on efficiently.
This service project showed how teamwork can make a difference even with a small group. By communicating and helping each other, the four volunteers were able to complete a meaningful amount of work without sacrificing the quality of the trail maintenance. Their efforts continued the AYLUS Great Neck Branch’s work at Kings Point Park and helped keep the park’s trails safer and more accessible for local residents and visitors.

Public libraries are invaluable community institutions that merit both recognition and unwavering support. Our local public library, Pacific Highlands Ranch Library, recently opened on November 9, 2024. The new library is an 18,000 square foot building designed to fit the changing needs of a
modern neighborhood. It has a bookstore that needs our community’s volunteers’ help to run it.
Our AYLUS San Diego branch is dedicated to supporting our public library and community. Our volunteers played an active role by unpacking donated book boxes, organizing them on bookshelves, assisting customers with book selections and pricing, handling payments, and maintaining transaction records. All proceeds from the event were donated to the public library to help fund its programs.

Smiling Stars Reading Program is a new project by AYLUS San Diego and kicked off on September 23, 2023.
This program serves a dual purpose: to facilitate meaningful connections with local children with autism and improve their communication skills, while simultaneously improving their foundational reading comprehension skills. Our commitment is not only to foster a safe and fun group environment but also to encourage these children to engage, communicate, and learn with enthusiasm.
During the meetings, our volunteers wish to act as “buddies” with the local kids with autism while also helping them improve their basic reading comprehension, in the process encouraging them to communicate and participate, and have fun in a group environment. Our volunteers plan fun activities while learning, and additionally build their communication and reading comprehension skills by encouraging participation. Ultimately, the goal is to create a safe, fun, and comfortable environment to create a better learning environment, and at the same time, allow the kids to interact with people and learn basic reading skills.
In this session, to connect with the children on a deeper level, we ran an in-person session to help the kids with social skills, as well as having fun with other kids.

The AYLUS Gainesville Branch organized its Weekend Speech & Debate Coaching Program at Oaks Hall School on Sunday, August 30, 2026, as part of the Huagen Chinese School weekend program open to all community members. Volunteers Jalen Zheng, Mia Yu, Logan Wu, and Michael Huan each contributed 1 hour of free volunteer service — of in-person coaching services. During this session, the volunteers provided hands-on instruction for students ranging from 3rd grade to high school, introducing them to the fundamentals of debate, speech structure, and persuasive communication. The coaches guided participants through speaking drills, case organization, and teamwork exercises designed to strengthen confidence and critical thinking.
Each volunteer spent 1 hour coaching students during the AYLUS Gainesville Weekend Speech & Debate Program at Oaks Hall School. Preparation time was directly related to the teaching content and considered part of the volunteer service.
By sharing their experiences as competitive debaters and youth leaders, the volunteers helped inspire younger students to express their ideas clearly and respectfully. This weekly program continues to promote leadership, logic, and civic engagement — key values of the AYLUS mission — while enriching Gainesville’s educational community.

On Sunday, August 30th, 2026, AYLUS Gainesville Branch volunteers Jalen Zheng and Logan Wu participated in teacher assistance activities at Huagen Chinese School. The volunteers contributed their time and effort to support younger students and teachers through classroom assistance and educational engagement.

During this session, Jalen Zheng and Logan Wu assisted the 2nd grade teacher in managing classroom activities and supporting students’ learning. Their responsibilities included helping students stay focused, answering questions, distributing materials, and guiding students through their classroom exercises.
The volunteers also helped maintain a positive and organized learning environment, ensuring that students remained engaged and comfortable. By providing individual attention and encouragement, they helped students build confidence and develop stronger learning habits.
Through these volunteer activities, Jalen Zheng and Logan Wu contributed to the educational development of younger students and supported teachers in creating a productive classroom environment. Their participation helped improve classroom efficiency, provided valuable mentorship to students, and strengthened the sense of community within Huagen Chinese School.

The session focused on transforming complex scientific theories into accessible, hands-on experiments for the young participants. ]]>During this month’s food drive, AYLUS members collected approximately 40 pounds of non-perishable food items, including canned goods, pasta, rice, cereal, and other pantry staples. Before the donations were delivered, members carefully inspected every item to ensure it was safe and suitable for distribution. Volunteers checked the expiration dates on each can and boxed product, removed any items that did not meet quality standards, and organized the donations by category. This careful preparation helps the food distributor efficiently sort and distribute the items while ensuring that families receive safe, high-quality food.
On September 5, 2026, at 4:00 PM, AYLUS members delivered the collected food to the local food distributor through the United Methodist Church in Chatham. These donations will help stock community food pantries and provide nutritious meals for individuals and families experiencing food insecurity. Every donation, no matter the size, contributes to easing the burden on families and strengthening the support network within our local community.
This monthly food drive continues to demonstrate the positive impact that dedicated volunteers can make through consistent service. By collecting food, checking expiration dates, organizing donations, and delivering them to the distribution center, AYLUS members gained a deeper understanding of the importance of food safety, teamwork, and community responsibility. AYLUS Morris Branch is grateful to all members and donors who participated in this project, and we look forward to continuing our partnership with the United Methodist Church in Chatham to help fight hunger and serve our community throughout the year.

]]>On September 5, AYLUS members came together for a service event to prepare all of the donated items before delivery. Volunteers carefully inspected each donation, cleaned items as needed, sorted clothing by type and size, and organized the kitchen supplies to ensure everything was in excellent condition for distribution. Working side by side, members demonstrated teamwork, responsibility, and attention to detail while learning the importance of treating every donation with care and respect. By taking the time to organize the items, our volunteers helped make the distribution process more efficient for the church staff and more welcoming for the families who will receive them.
At 5:00 PM on September 5, the organized donations were delivered to the United Methodist Church in Green Village. The church will distribute these items to families in need throughout the local community, helping them prepare for the coming fall season. This partnership reflects AYLUS Morris Branch’s ongoing commitment to serving our community through meaningful volunteer projects and strong collaborations with local organizations. We are grateful to every member who participated in collecting, sorting, organizing, and delivering the donations. ]]>During this activity, our young volunteers brought the six boxes of books to the post office and prepared them for shipment. The six boxes contained 542 English books suitable for elementary school students, which will be sent to the Libibing Primary Library in Lesotho, Africa. The total domestic shipping cost was $144.97, and the international shipping cost was $102. All of these expenses were paid using funds previously earned by our young volunteers through handmade craft sales and fundraising activities.
Through this activity, our volunteers learned the importance of teamwork, responsibility, and community service. They also experienced how their own efforts can help support children in another part of the world. We hope these books will bring valuable reading opportunities, knowledge, and encouragement to the children of Libibing Primary School.

At the start of the event, members of AYLUS Oakland Gardens helped set up two tables and some chairs at a nearby park close to P.S. 203. At the tables and chairs open spots for face painting and balloon animals. While that was getting set up at the park, some members also helped the PTA organize school supplies and deliver them to the right classrooms. On this day, many parents came to the school to drop off their school supplies for this upcoming school year. So it was a great time for new families coming to the school to get to know each other and get more familiar with the school.
At the park, the new students would get a chance to bond with other kids and get to know one another. The face painting and balloon animals give the kids the opportunity to share their interests and learn about what they have in common with each other. This way, when the new school year starts, the kids won’t feel lonely or unfamiliar with the other students. Due to the events at the park, parents had a reason to stay and talk with others. It was also a great way for the parents to get to know each other. It was great watching the kids and parents talking to each other.
After the events at the park were over, all of the members went to help the PTA deliver school supplies to the classroom that had not been dropped off yet. This way, the PTA would have an easier workload and wouldn’t need to stay at the school for very long. Members had to work together and help each other deliver the school supplies to different classrooms. This required communication about which classroom needed the supplies and what floor the classroom was on. They also had to help each other because sometimes the box of school supplies would be too heavy for one person to carry. Due to the teamwork, members were able to deliver the supplies efficiently.
Lastly, we want to thank all the members who came out this Wednesday to the school and set up the events at the park. We also want to thank all the Parent-Teacher Association members that was the school organizing the school supplies.

The AYLUS Lake Washington Branch successfully hosted six sessions of the AP Calculus AB Prep Camp from July.24 to Aug.06 led by instructor Jiayi Zhu, with assistance from Kerui Xu and Wenjie Yan. The regular session was 2 hours long, and gave the students good insight into foundational of AP Calculus AB. Jiayi Zhu also spent additional time on Q&A and homework correction.

Public libraries are invaluable community institutions that merit both recognition and unwavering support. Our local public library, Pacific Highlands Ranch Library, recently opened on November 9, 2024. The new library is an 18,000 square foot building designed to fit the changing needs of a
modern neighborhood. It has a bookstore that needs our community’s volunteers’ help to run it.
Our AYLUS San Diego branch is dedicated to supporting our public library and community. Our volunteers played an active role by unpacking donated book boxes, organizing them on bookshelves, assisting customers with book selections and pricing, handling payments, and maintaining transaction records. All proceeds from the event were donated to the public library to help fund its programs.

Throughout the morning, volunteers took part in a variety of tasks to assist with the preparation and distribution of food. They sorted fresh produce, organized donated pantry goods, and prepared grocery packages for families experiencing food insecurity. By handling these responsibilities, the volunteers helped streamline the center’s operations and prepare a greater quantity of food for distribution to members of the community.
The event emphasized the importance of collaboration, efficiency, and careful organization. Volunteers coordinated with one another to complete tasks, manage donated supplies, and maintain an orderly workflow. Working in a shared environment allowed them to strengthen their communication and teamwork skills while gaining firsthand experience with the logistical effort required to support a community food distribution program.
Beyond the immediate work of sorting and packing food, the experience provided volunteers with a greater appreciation for the importance of consistent community support. Their contributions, although part of a larger operation, played a practical role in helping the Generosity Center serve local families. The event also encouraged volunteers to recognize how small individual efforts can become meaningful when combined with the work of others.
The August 29 service event reflects the continued dedication of the AYLUS Rancho Cucamonga Branch to community involvement and civic responsibility. Through their time, cooperation, and effort, the volunteers helped advance the Generosity Center’s mission while making a tangible contribution to their local community. Receiving a warm card can be meaningful and uplifting for many children. Collaborating with Special Needs Assistance, we dedicated our time and creativity to making handmade cards, which we will later send to children therapy centers for children with autism. This act may seem simple, but it has the potential to brighten a child’s day. By doing this, we foster community stewardship and raise awareness for children with special needs while spreading love and care throughout the community.
As part of our collaboration with the Special Needs Assistance, we hosted one card-making session on August 30, during which we created cards for children with autism, wrote heartfelt messages, and decorated the cards. The card-making session took place from 2 PM to 4PM. In total, we created over 25 cards.

Throughout the session, volunteers worked together and continued building on the skills they had learned from previous workshops. They practiced different crochet techniques, helped each other when needed, and made steady progress on their projects. The workshop provided a productive way for volunteers to spend their afternoon while developing their crochet skills and creating handmade items that can eventually be donated to community organizations. Everyone remained engaged throughout the three-and-a-half-hour session, and the group worked well together.
Overall, the sixth Crochet Workshop was another enjoyable and productive event for the AYLUS Roslyn branch. We are glad to see our volunteers continuing to improve their skills and contribute their time toward creating handmade items for the community. We look forward to continuing our crochet workshops and starting more projects in the future.

It was an absolute delight to spend our time volunteering, not only did we enjoy ourselves during the time that we had, there were also valuable skills and lessons that could be derived from our work. We learned to care for people and strengthen the community by taking time out of our days to do something considerate for others. By making these bags and cards from our heart and souls, our sweat and blood, we are able to produce dazzling art pieces and kindhearted messages. Not only that but the volunteers learnt about the creative process. The volunteers have demonstrated immaculate craftsmanship in merely two hours. They have all worked diligently and have proven that they are very devoted to their cause.

This workshop was led by Olivia Lin. Since everyone had already developed basic crochet skills through previous sessions, the workshop focused on further improving techniques through practice and discussion. Olivia shared helpful suggestions and demonstrated different ways to improve the crocheting process. Yuxin Zou and Yanyu Zhang exchanged ideas with her, discussed techniques they had learned in earlier workshops, and worked together to solve problems they encountered.
Throughout the workshop, the volunteers shared tips, compared their methods, and helped one another correct small mistakes. These discussions allowed everyone to learn from each other’s experience and improve both the quality and efficiency of their work. The smaller group also gave participants more opportunities to communicate closely and focus on their individual projects.
Overall, the workshop was a productive and enjoyable session. Through continued practice, discussion, and teamwork, participants further strengthened their crochet skills while making steady progress on handmade items for future donations. We look forward to continuing our projects and creating more items to support those in need.

Volunteers helped with planting, watering, weeding, pruning, and collecting seeds. The greenway along the river provides a rich habitat for wildlife in the area.

Course Report: August 17 – August 28, 2026
AYLUS Lake Washington Branch successfully hosted ten sessions of the Game Development in Unity Camp from Aug.17 to Aug.28.
From Monday, August 17th to Friday, August 28th, our instructors Andrew Zhang and Vincent Zhang ran a ten-day tutoring course introducing students to game development in Unity. Sessions were held each weekday for 90 minutes and combined a lecture with a hands-on lab, gradually building toward a finished, playable game that students published and presented on the final day. Andrew also spent additional time on Q&A, homework correction and project help. A day-by-day summary of the course follows.
On August 17th, Andrew Zhang and Vincent Zhang formally introduced the course and laid out the goals and expectations for the course. The lecture for this day included core game design concepts, including the MDA Framework, systems of a game, and the development pipeline. Students then moved to learn the basic of C#, covering all the topics involving variables, data types, operators, etc. and checked their understanding with a short quiz. To close the session, students worked independently on a mini project, writing a short script that accepted and manipulated at least two inputs and produced at least two outputs.

The second session began with a recap of game design fundamentals before first experiencing Unity’s editor engine. Students learnt about RigidBodies and their three types, how Colliders detect contact between objects, the use of Vectors and Quaternions, and why FixedUpdate() is used for physics so that gameplay feels consistent across computers of varying power. After a quick quiz to check comprehension, students began a guided lab, building their first movement script for their player character, including camera follow behavior

On day three, the session opened with a recap of RigidBodies and Colliders before diving into how Unity calculates collisions and the distinction between a Collider and a Trigger. Students then learnt about Unity’s layering and tag system, including the proper use of layers to control object’s physics interactions. The session closed with a lab to finish the previous day’s movement script and add a shooting ability for the player, reinforcing the physics and collision concepts covered.

On day four, students learnt about the fundamentals of raycasting, including how a ray checks for the first collider it intersects. They also learnt about common mistakes to avoid, such as missing colliders, unnormalized directions, and forgetting to set a LayerMask, in order to optimize raycast performance. Buidling on this, the students worked through the lab to create a stationary enemy that detects and shoots at the player once in range using a raycast, along with an enemy that shoots a bullet that lightly homes towards the player.

On the first day of the second week, the session began with a recap of scenes and saving before introducing game states, which track the state of their game, and Unity’s uGUI system, including the Canvas, anchors, RectTransform, and other properties. Students then worked on making their own uGUI, a health bar system and adding animation to make the inferface feel more polished.

On day seven, students learnt about the limitations of manually scripting enemy movement and how to use the NavMesh and its sister components as a way to automatically calculate pathfinding around obstacles. In the lab that followed, students built an enemy that navigates toward the player using a NavMesh and applied the same pathfinding to enemies created earlier in the scene, giving their games more dynamic and responsive opponents.

The eighth session focused on polish, covering AudioSources and AudioClips for sound, how to import audio and art assets into Unity, the basics of lighting and textures, and particle systems. Students spent the lab adding sound effects and particles for the player’s movement and landing, along with artwork for the player and obstacles. They also coded in particles for eliminating enemies.

On August 27th, this session was set aside as a day to catch up and review. Students finished any remaining work from previous labs, and Andrew and Vincent hosted a Kahoot review game covering material from across the course. The rest of the session was used to fix any final compilation errors before tomorrow’s class.

On the tenth and final day, the lecture covered the process of building and exporting a game, including build profiles, versioning conventions and practices, proper archiving, and several tips and tricks to do to check the release for any errors. Students then built and exported their game, wrapping up the ten-day course with each student having a complete, fully playable game to show for their efforts.

The AYLUS Lake Washington Branch successfully hosted six sessions of the AMC8 Prep Camp in August led by instructor Xingchen Song, with assistance from Jiayi Zhu, and Kerui Xu. The regular session was 1.5 hours long, and gave the students good insight into foundational mathematics. Xingchen also spent additional time on Q&A and homework correction.
Day 1 (August 15): Students learned about the difference of squares and how to apply it to complex AMC 8 problems, and also learned different ways to solve quadratics, such as using the quadratic formula or factoring. Students also learned Vieta’s Formula for quadratics, and also learned important rules to know while solving quadratics. Finally, students also learned about Pascal’s triangle, and how it could be used in real AMC problems.

Day 2 (August 16): Students learned many different geometry concepts that can be applied in AMC 8, such as the Pythagorean Theorem, finding the areas of different polygons, circle basics, triangle similarity and congruence, and some common right triangles.

Day 3 (August 17): Students learned basic counting and probability skills needed for the AMC 8, such as combinations and permutations, stars and bars, and lattice paths. Students also did many practice problems related to these topics, with example problems and real AMC 8 problems.

Day 4 (August 18): Students did more problems on lattice paths, and also learned about more important topics that can be applied in the AMC 8, such as arithmetic and geometric sequences. Students also did many exercises and real AMC problems using arithmetic and geometric sequences. Finally, students also got the opportunity to play a Kahoot on what they learned at the end of the class.

Day 5 (August 19): On day 5, we focused on the last 10 problems of AMC 8 (the harder ones) and did many real AMC 8 practice problems together, and students had the chance to do it themselves, then were given the step by step solution. Finally, at the end of the class, students played a Kahoot to wrap everything up.

On Friday 08/28/2026, members of the AYLUS Frisco & Plano branch congregated at the Russell Creek Park to raise funds for our large Loops for Love and African Library projects. Volunteers set up a booth in front of the playground, where they sold cotton candy, shaved ice, and iced water. Team members worked the cash register, advertising, and preparing food. Through teamwork, our fundraising event turned out to be a success, and a considerable amount of money was raised!

On Saturday, August 29, 2026, members from the AYLUS Frisco-Plano branch gathered at the Frisco Environmental Collection Center to donate used batteries. The batteries were collected from members of the local community and sorted by volunteers. By engaging with local recycling efforts, we can reduce our use of natural resources and reuse the metals found in manufactured batteries.

Smiling Stars Reading Program is a new project by AYLUS San Diego and kicked off on September 23, 2023.
This program serves a dual purpose: to facilitate meaningful connections with local children with autism and improve their communication skills, while simultaneously improving their foundational reading comprehension skills. Our commitment is not only to foster a safe and fun group environment but also to encourage these children to engage, communicate, and learn with enthusiasm.
During the meetings, our volunteers wish to act as “buddies” with the local kids with autism while also helping them improve their basic reading comprehension, in the process encouraging them to communicate and participate, and have fun in a group environment. Our volunteers plan fun activities while learning, and additionally build their communication and reading comprehension skills by encouraging participation. Ultimately, the goal is to create a safe, fun, and comfortable environment to create a better learning environment, and at the same time, allow the kids to interact with people and learn basic reading skills.
In this session, to connect with the children on a deeper level, we planned and ran an in-person session to help the kids with social skills, as well as having fun with other kids.

To achieve the vision of empowering young leaders in our community to take action, develop leadership skills, and experience the satisfaction of service above self, the AYLUS San Diego Branch elected its new 2026–2027 Branch Committee in April 2026 and organized a leadership team conference and transition event on August 22, 2026.
During the meeting, members of the new leadership team introduced themselves and presented the programs and service projects they plan to lead in the coming year. The leaders exchanged experiences and ideas from previous volunteer activities, discussed potential service opportunities, and explored ways to encourage greater participation among branch members.
The meeting also provided an opportunity for the outgoing and incoming leadership teams to share knowledge and ensure a smooth transition. Members discussed how to strengthen existing programs, develop new community service initiatives, improve communication and collaboration, and provide more opportunities for young volunteers to take leadership roles.
The event concluded with a group discussion and a shared commitment to continue expanding the San Diego Branch’s positive impact on the community.
Congratulations to all newly elected committee members! We look forward to seeing both our branch and our positive impact on the community continue to grow in the coming year. Once again, we would like to express our sincere gratitude to everyone who has contributed to the growth and success of the AYLUS San Diego Branch. Members were excited to harvest more fresh produce from the garden, including more beefsteak and Roma tomatoes and eggplants. After last week’s harvest, it was wonderful to see that the plants were continuing to produce more fresh vegetables. All of the freshly harvested produce was then delivered to Jacob’s House kitchen to be enjoyed by the residents living there.
As usual, members did light trimming on the tomato trees and eggplants trees, as well as light maintenance that to removed weeds ,watered all of the plants, cleaned up the leaves etc.

ABWK is a project focuses on helping senior homeowners by painting and refreshing their homes. The main goal of the project is to support seniors who may not be physically or financially able to maintain their homes on their own. Volunteers help paint exterior or interior areas of senior homes, improving safety, cleanliness, and overall living conditions. This also helps protect homes from weather damage and creates a more comfortable and welcoming environment for the residents. Through this project, volunteers gain hands-on service experience while making a meaningful impact in the community. It emphasizes teamwork, compassion, and giving back by assisting seniors in maintaining safe and dignified homes.
We arrived early in the morning at about 7:30, and we were greeted by Habitat with a warm welcome. After everyone had arrived, they started explaining how to paint the houses. We all listened intently on how to paint the cracks, the walls, and how to avoid the windowsills while painting. After the demonstration, we all got to work. Despite the cruel heat and bugs, we pushed on and kept working. It was inspiring how everyone was working hard and motivating each other. The senior came out in the middle of the job to thank us all. After the event ended, everyone stayed to help fold the tarps, peel off the tape, clean the brushes, and applying finishing touches. It was a memorable experience that opened our eyes to the importance and value of dedication and teamwork that shaped this community.

It’s an exciting harvest season, members were delighted to discover that the beefsteak and Roma tomatoes had ripened an some eggplants too. Members picked a few fresh tomatoes to taste, and they were incredibly sweet and delicious.
After enjoying the harvest, members trimmed the tomato trees to improve air circulation. There will be more tomatoes and eggplants to be harvested next time. Members also did light maintenance as usal, they removed weeds ,watered all of the plants, cleaned up the leaves etc.

Working together, members searched for and removed litter throughout the park, along the surrounding streets, in parking lots, beneath benches, and among the bushes where trash is often overlooked.
The cleanup was a reminder that small efforts, when done consistently, can make a noticeable difference in keeping public spaces clean and enjoyable for the community.

We began the morning by working with Allen, a staff member for Assemblywoman Nily Rozic, to prepare the event area. Our volunteer helped set up tents, chairs, tables, and other equipment. We also brought bags of ice and prepared buckets and coolers to keep refreshments cold throughout the event. Volunteers also helped set up the raffle, which included Mets merchandise and tickets to various New York City family attractions, including the Queens Botanical Garden.
After the setup was completed, Allen assigned our volunteers to different designated stations throughout the event. Volunteers helped manage th eline for the ice cream truck, distributed free water to attendees, and assisted families and guests as needed.Our volunteers worked together to keep the event organized and ensure that everyone could enjoy the activities safely and smoothly.
As the event continued, additional community partners and vendors arrived to set up their booths and activities. AYLUS volunteers assisted organizations such as South Bayside EMS, MetroPlusHealth, and the New York City Department of Sanitation, and Fire Department of New York with their setups and helped direct attendees to different stations. Furthermore, families were able to enjoy a variety of activities throughout the day, including free face painting, free balloon twisting, a bounce house, music from a DJ, and other interactive activities. As the event came to a close, Allen and the vendors helped draw the raffle winners. Families eagerly waited to see if they had won one of the many prizes, including Mets merchandise and tickets to local family attractions. All the winners were able to take a picture with Assemblywoman Nily Rozic.
We would like to sincerely thank Assemblywoman Nily Rozic, Allen, Queens Community House, and all of the community partners and volunteers who helped make this Family Fun Day possible. We are grateful to serve our community and support an event that brought so many families together.
