]]>Cats at the Studios is teaming up with other Humane organizations such as The Fauna Foundation, Pet Care Foundation and Latino Alliance for Animal Care Foundation to help curb the pet population – dogs and cats.
Yes, we are an adoption organization, however overpopulation, owner surrender, and cats and dogs abandoned to the streets is a problem for all of us.
A recent clinic we had in Panorama City one for cats, and one for dogs we helped find folks in need of services for, had over 500 phone calls each. There were 50 spots for each clinic and pets had to be delivered at 6:30 AM on a Sunday. In the end 106 cats / dogs were fixed.
We are seeking sponsors / donors to do at least 10 more clinics and fix at least 500 more animals. CATS is a 100% volunteer based organization so all our funds go directly to the pets and programs!!

Cats are being abandoned on the streets in industrial areas.
Many are unfixed and we have volunteers who are doing TNR (Trap Neuter Release) CATS does rehome those that are adoptable, but many feral cats live and die (killed by predators, vehicles or poison) in these colonies.
We need volunteers to help provide food and water. You do not have to volunteer every day.

Adopting a pet is a lifetime commitment. To help ensure that we place our cats in loving, responsible and committed homes, we have a screening process involved before adopting a cat or kitten to you.
We try to fit the right human companion to the right cat and ensure a secure and enduring home. Since our volunteers home foster and interact with the cats on a daily basis, they can also discuss the personalities of the cats or kittens with you.

Dear Friends, Volunteers, and Supporters,
As the noise of the holidays settles, I wanted to take a quiet moment to pause and reflect with you.
Another year has come to a close—a year defined by shared dedication, learning, laughter, and resilience. But most importantly, it was a year where our direction was set, as always, by happy paw prints.
As we step into 2026, we carry those attributes forward. Whether it is facilitating adoptions or feeding our community cats, every action you take propels Cats at the Studios into our 42nd year. Since 1984, we have been a beacon for animals in need, and that light only shines because of you.
Every volunteer helps shape who we are. Every contribution, large or small, keeps us financially stable. You allow us to secure forever homes for kittens and cats, and maintain the legacy of care for our community cats that our founder, Elyse Mayberry, so heartily established.
Wherever you are right now, please know that your connection to this rescue is vital. It is the heartbeat of our mission. It is because of your generosity that we can proudly assure everyone that 100% of all funds and donations go directly to the cats. We don’t take salaries. We do this purely for the love of the animal, from the bottom of our hearts.

Soy can indeed trigger hot spots in dogs and cats due to food allergies or sensitivities. Hot spots, also known as moist dermatitis, are a common skin condition in pets. Many commercial dog and cat foods, as well as treats, contain soy as an ingredient. Soy is a significant allergen and can cause severe itching, which many veterinarians diagnose as hot spots, often leading to the prescription of steroids. Managing a pet with a soy allergy can result in frequent visits to the veterinarian.
Food allergies to soy can manifest as itchy skin, leading to hot spots from excessive scratching. Other symptoms of a soy allergy in dogs and cats may include vomiting, diarrhea, loss of appetite, and more. Eliminating soy from your pet’s diet and treats may help alleviate these symptoms.
Soybeans contain compounds that can inhibit the body’s ability to absorb essential vitamins and minerals, which are crucial for optimal health. In severe cases, soy allergies can cause seizures and gastric discomfort in pets. As pet owners, we all want to prevent our beloved animals from suffering, especially from the foods we provide them.

]]>The Hidden Dangers of Scents and Alkaline Water for Pets

It is widely known that certain scents, oils, scented candles, air fresheners, and perfumes can be harmful to cats. These substances can cause severe health issues and even lead to a slow and painful death for our feline friends. We strongly advise pet adopters and owners to avoid using these products in their homes.
However, there is another silent threat to both cats and dogs that is gaining attention: the use of pH alkaline water. Alkaline water systems are being installed in homes worldwide, and alkaline bottled water is readily available for purchase. While alkaline water may offer health benefits for humans, it is not suitable for pets. Pets require water with a lower pH than humans to maintain good health. Consuming high pH alkaline water can lead to poor health and a gradual decline in pets.
Veterinarians often do not inquire about the type of water pets are consuming, which can result in undiagnosed health issues. Pets drinking high pH alkaline water may experience weight loss, organ failure, and ultimately, death. For optimal pet health, water from the faucet purified with a Brita filter system is recommended.
The ideal pH value for both dogs and cats should be around 6.5, which is considered a healthy level. A pH below 5.5/6 is acidic, while a pH above 7/7.5 is alkaline. Alkaline water can create an environment conducive to bacterial growth, urinary and kidney crystals, and stone formation, leading to overall poor health in pets.
If you or your veterinarian are unable to determine the cause of your pet’s declining health, it is important to consider the potential impact of scents and the pH level of their water.

All summer the kids and pets have kept each other company. But now that summer break is almost over and kids are going back to school, what does that mean for your pets? It could mean a change in behavior – and that sometimes prompts pets to be returned. Don’t let that become an option when there are solutions.
A cat that is an only pet might act out and start scratching on the couch or other surfaces. A dog might poop in the house or also become destructive. They aren’t doing it to be bad, they are letting you know they don’t like the change.
What can you do?
- First if your pet is an “only” you can get them a companion. Only is lonely if they have a buddy they work out that energy or lack of activity with each other.
- When you leave the house leave on the TV or a radio so they have a voice for company. It really does make them feel someone else is there.
- Get the pet some interactive toys. There are even “smart” toys that you can play with your pet through a cellphone app when you are gone.
- Start a new routine with your pet now, before you go back to work and school. If you used to take the dog for a walk before taking the kids to school and now you take at a different time, restart that before school time. It will also prevent “accidents” as dogs suddenly left in the house longer than expected when used to walking at a certain time, just can’t hold it.
Dog destructive behavior like scratching at a door as a way to escape, or excessive howling or chewing on things like shoes is part of the separation anxiety or boredom that you are gone. So getting that new companion now and getting them used to your being away longer now is very important for them to readapt to the old time frame.
Although cats can sleep 18 – 20 hours a day, when your kids are there with them and they have become accustomed to playing with them, they can “mark” areas because they think leaving their scent is a way to have their “missing” playmates find their way back home. In their mind, you’re lost!
Remember, rescue pets often have a history of abuse, neglect or abandonment. So your being away longer makes them think you’ve left them. You choose this wonderful family member and you might be their last chance at a happy life. So before you think about returning to a rescue or shelter, please reach out for help!

]]>Removing kittens from where they are now isn’t always the right answer.
You just found a group of tiny newborn kittens and their mother is nowhere to be seen. Before you scoop them up, evaluate the situation. Mother cats may leave their kittens for several hours at a time. If the kittens are warm and don’t appear sick or in distress, their mom is likely nearby, getting food or hiding from you.
The kittens’ best chances for survival are with their mom. Her milk is much better quality than kitten milk replacement. She’s able to keep them warm and stimulate them to pee and poop, as well as help them learn to be cats.
If there is a mom, then provide her support with food and fresh water to nourish her babies. Do not place food too close to her nesting babies as you might also attract predators.
If the kittens are truly abandoned or appear sick, cold, or nonresponsive when you touch them, you need a different game plan. The younger the kittens are, the quicker you’ll need to act and the more care they’ll need.
UNDER NO CIRCUMSTANCES SHOULD YOU GIVE THEM COWS MILK. We’ve all seen it on TV or the Movies where they give a cat cream or milk and that is a big mistake. Cats are lactose intolerant and it can give them major gastric distress. There are cat milk supplements such as KMR to help feed kittens.
During Kitten Season many rescues are overwhelmed with abandoned kittens. The first thing you want to do is make sure they are warm and place them on a towel with a heating pad. Kittens need to be fed frequently so getting to a pet store ASAP for kitten milk supplements is essential. When they are young they do not know how to pee or poop on their own, you have to stimulate them. There are great videos on how to do both feeding and potty them.
If you reach out to a rescue or shelter and are willing to foster till ready for adoption, you will be saving two lives – the life of that kitten and the life of one the shelter won’t euthanize because no one can help. Rescues and shelters need your help – most are volunteers with busy lives too and they can only help as many as they can physically and fiscally handle. So your being a part of the team makes a difference in saving lives.
