Alexander’s Highland Market will host an end-of-summer wine dinner on Thursday, August 22, 2024, at 6:30 p.m. in the café. Tickets for the five-course meal are $95 and available by calling 225-615-7800 or by clicking here.
Pours will include Saldo Chenin Blanc, The Prisoner Chardonnay, The Prisoner Pinot Noir, The Prisoner Cabernet Sauvignon, and The Prisoner Red Blend. The wines will be paired with a watermelon salad, serf and terf entrees that include shrimp and crab-stuffed flounder and crispy pork belly as well as filet mignon, and a chocolate cheese cake for dessert.In addition, a sparkling rosé will be served at an artisan cheese reception.
This trendy, modern winery burst onto the scene two decades ago with The Prisoner, a complex red blend of some of California’s best and most unusual grape varieties. Its brand name and flagship label, inspired by an etching titled Le Petit Prisonnier, a 19th century Spanish sketch protesting the injustice and brutality of the Spanish War of Independence of 1808, captured the imagination of an independent nation and led to the creation of other varietals. Saldo, a blend of Zinfandel, Petite Sirah, and Syrah grapes, comes from the Italian word for “balance.”

Alexander’s Heritage Market will host its first wine dinner on Wednesday, June 19, 2024, at 6:30 p.m. to kick off the new Gonzales store’s Grand Opening weekend, June 20-23. The store, just off the Tanger Outlet exit on 1-10 on Highway 30, is located at 415 St. Christopher.
