The Charity Spotlight series showcases the important work carried out by charities and provides a platform for organisations to share their experiences, achievements and advice.

In the feature, Rachael Hudson, Founder of Childs Vision, talks about the charity’s work, including our 1:1 school support sessions, Children’s Freedom Programme, teenage support programme and Toy Bank.

Rachael also reflects on some of the achievements we’re particularly proud of, including receiving the King’s Award for Voluntary Service during the first year of His Majesty King Charles III’s reign. This recognition was a wonderful achievement for the whole Childs Vision team and acknowledged the commitment and dedication of our volunteers.

The feature also highlights our new teenage programme, Know My Worth, which we have recently piloted and are looking forward to delivering more widely from October.

There are many ways people can support Childs Vision, from volunteering with us to taking part in fundraising activities such as sponsored walks and marathons. As Rachael explains in the feature, one of the most important lessons from our journey has been simple: keep going.

“2025 has been an incredible year for fundraising.  

Thanks to the generosity and enthusiasm of our colleagues, customers, and partners, we’ve raised an amazing £48,000 for Child’s Vision, our Charity of the Year.  

Child’s Vision is a Kent-based charity dedicated to supporting children who’ve witnessed or been affected by domestic abuse. Their passionate team delivers tailored programs. From one-to-one school support to teen and freedom programs, they’re all designed to empower and help children change their lives. 

Steve Weston, mhs homes multi-trader and charity champion, said: “When we began this journey, I never thought we’d raise this much. It’s been inspiring to see everyone come together for such an important cause.” 

Rachael Hudson, CEO and Founder of Child’s Vision, added: “We’re incredibly grateful for this partnership. This funding doesn’t just support our work today – it sets us up for the next two years. It’s already enabled us to bring another team member on board, which has helped us reduce our waiting lists and reach children more quickly.

“Thanks to this support, we can also look at restarting our training programme, knowing we can cover the essential fees. It’s a transformative boost that will help more children access the vital programmes they need.”

From golf days and dragon boat races to charity football matches and a London-to-Paris bike ride, our teams went above and beyond to raise event penny.  

We’d like to thank everyone who got involved, took on personal challenges, and helped us raise this life-changing amount. We’re proud of the social impact we’ve achieved together, and we know it wouldn’t be possible without the unwavering support.

Child’s Vision is based in the South East, a region where over 12.9% of all jobs pay less than the real Living Wage – around 519,000 jobs. Despite this, Child’s Vision has committed to paying the real Living Wage and providing a decent standard of living for all its workers. 

The Living Wage Foundation’s real Living Wage remains the only UK wage rate independently  

calculated based on the cost of living, rising annually based on living costs. It gives employers  

the confidence that they are paying a wage that meets everyday needs, not just the government minimum. Over 16,000 accredited employers have secured over £3.6 billion of pay rises for low-paid workers since 2011 and made a profound difference to millions of lives around the UK. 

Child’s Vision feels that it is important to give its employees at least a living wage, to help them with the cost of living and make them feel valued. 

Katherine Chapman, Director, Living Wage Foundation, said: “We’re delighted that Child’s Vision has joined the movement of over 16,000 responsible employers across the UK who voluntarily commit to go further than the government minimum to make sure all their staff earn enough to live on. 

“They join thousands of small businesses, as well as household names such as Burberry, Barclays, Everton Football Club and many more. These businesses recognise that paying the real Living Wage is the mark of a responsible employer and they, like Child’s Vision, believe that everyone needs to be able to live with dignity and have a decent standard of living.”

Charity Golf Day – We raised over £3,000 at our Golf Day at Gillingham Golf Club. A huge thank you to our wonderful sponsors and everyone who took part. The next one is already booked for 12th June 2026!

Fayres, Fêtes & Festivals – From Bearsted Fayre to the Maidstone River Festival, our summer events brought in over £500 and plenty of community spirit.

Forest School Fun – Children enjoyed outdoor learning, nature walks, and woodland crafts. A big thank you to Katie McCabe for hosting us!

Prestige Awards – We’re proud to be named Children’s Charity of the Year at the London & Southeast Prestige Awards for the 4th year running.

What’s Next – Join us for our Quiz Night at Detling Village Hall on Saturday 11th October, and don’t miss our Christmas Raffle, running from 10th November to 10th December.
