We booked a quick weekend getaway to Dorchester County to celebrate Harriet Tubman Day at the Harriet Tubman Underground Railroad Visitors Center & National Historical Park. The weekend was filled with a ton of family time, history and education.
It was a very satisfying trip because we incorporated celebrating Women’s History Month and learning a lot ab out a woman who deserves a museum in her honor.

This is a very comfortable, quiet and family friendly hotel with an indoor pool and gym. Kids of all ages will absolutely enjoy the pool. If you have teenagers like me, they can continue their training at the gym during their downtime. This hotel is quiet and has an all-you-can-eat breakfast. Who doesn’t love a hotel breakfast included in the price! Highly recommend!

Dorchester County Visitors Center
The architectural design award-winning Dorchester County Visitor Center at Sailwinds Park is located in Cambridge on Maryland’s Eastern Shore. With its huge sail soaring more than 100 feet in the air, it is an Eastern Shore landmark. From 8:30am to 4:30pm daily, friendly staff members can help with your plans exploring the Heart of the Chesapeake. Our family loves this restaurant. We have actually driven the 2 hours from the DC area just to enjoy dinner here and drive back home. Some of our favorites on the menu include: the fried pickles, the Tempura Green Beans, Smoked Gouda Mac and Cheese, Fish and Chips and the Kids Meals are simply amazing! This place has such a cool family vibe too!
Harriet Tubman Underground Railroad Visitors Center & National Historical Park

Harriet Tubman Underground Railroad Visitors Center & National Historical Park is located on the Eastern Shore of Maryland where Harriet Tubman was born.
One of the most fascinating takeaways for me & my family was learning that Tubman was a naturalist. Her knowledge of the “natural world” included astronomy, bird calls & botany. These skills were imperative for her ability to survive & to save others. Her use of barred owl calls helped her communicate with freedom seekers on the Underground Railroad.

August is a great time to schedule all your Back-To-School check-ups and appointments. First on my To-Do List is getting my children’s eyes examined at Treehouse Eyes. We show our children the world, but our kids still need to be able to see it for themselves. I recently took my daughter Ella to our local Treehouse Eyes practice for a comprehensive eye exam to check for vision problems like myopia.

Memories From Destin Florida
Destin Florida is such a beautiful, quaint seaside town and one that my family and I had never before visited. A beach town where the opportunity to do a little salt water fishing and enjoy some of the best seafood found on the east coast sounded like the perfect plan for our family to spend a week on vacation. And when Official Destin-Fort Walton Beach reached out about teaming up with us on a stay and introducing us to Adventure Packs, I knew it would be a dream come true!
A lot of our friends make annual trips to Destin and have raved about how family friendly, fun and welcoming their stays were at all the places they’ve been there.

There’s a bit of something for everyone at the Emerald Grande Resort. For those feeling social, there’s a boat shuttle that takes you to the private beach where only guests of the Emerald Grande Resort can enjoy. For those feeling very private and romantic, you can find respite within your room and at different hours at the hot tub and outside pool bar.
The Emerald Grande made all the sanitation and safety precautions that you’d hope to see in practice at any hotel in 2020’s and we were very satisfied with the level of service provided.

Day 1
We went with the Tackle & Tacos Package. Our family has been fly fishing for a little over 2 years now and we’ve always wanted to try salt water fishing as a family. We decided to suit up against the windy and rainy forecast and hit the Gulf of Mexico for a traditional spin rod fishing excursion.
Fishing the Okaloosa Island Fishing Pier
The pier spans 1,262 feet into the Gulf’s temperate waters. We were very excited for our day on the water. We had warmer temperatures, but it was a bit windy and had rain in the forecast. We arrived to the pier a little early and met up with the very friendly staff to get a quick lesson on how to best use the fishing rods and tackle we were given.
In less than 30 minutes from meeting their “fishing instructor”, anglers can cast their lines from the pier and begin fishing right away. There’s an enormous amount of fish that can be caught here from this pier including: tarpon, tuna, king mackerel, cobia, redfish, bonito, and jack crevalle. With luck, you could even reel in a very rare sailfish.
Pier fishers can usually catch Spanish mackerel, whiting, or bluefish on an average day. Some pier fishing is specialized, with anglers focusing exclusively on the pompano, a fish beloved by chefs for its flavor, flaked texture, and versatility. Even if you did not bring your rod and tackle box, the pier supplies rods, cut bait, and tackle rentals at an additional charge—but is completely included with the Little Adventure Packs.
We didn’t land any of the fish we caught. My husband caught a huge jack crevalle, but after almost a 20 minute fight—the beautiful large fish broke off and escaped into the beautiful crashing waves.
We spent four hours in the morning fishing with no luck due to the wind and the rain. We did manage to build up a very nice appetite and was more than happy the restaurant was walking distance from the Pier.
Lunch at Rockin’ Tacos
One of the reasons our family chose the Tackle & Tacos Adventure Package was because of the restaurant partner, Rockin’ Tacos! This restaurant was featured on the Travel Channel, HGTV, and Forbes Magazine. Rockin’ Tacos features tequila flights from 75 varieties, avocado fries, and gigantic 12-inch blackened shrimp burritos. We love ourselves some Mexican food, especially the tacos here! The vibe at the restaurant was bustling and electrifying! The service and food lived up to all of the reviews and expectations!
Pro Tip: Sit outside for the ocean view. Every seat in the restaurant is good for outdoor dining.
The cuisine is definitely considered a favorite among locals and I understand why. It’s a blend of gulf seafood meets American-Mexican food with amazing panoramic views of the Gulf of Mexico.
Following lunch, we took a nice stroll around the HarborWalk and ducked in and out of the shops before hopping on the private boat to the exclusive and private Emerald Grande Resort beach.
The smooth quartz white sand is so soft and beautiful. It was unlike any other beach we’ve ever visited.
Day 2
Dolphin Cruise
Our plan to have a second fishing day was a bust due to the weather. However, we were able to shift our focus on a more relaxing boat ride. We selected the Glass Bottom Dolphin Sunset Cruise. If you’re looking to see dolphins and an enjoyable fun, yet relaxing boat ride, book with these awesome folks! There is a bar and small concession stand on the boat. The frozen drinks can be made with or without alcohol for a happy hour the entire family can enjoy!
The Destin Glass Bottom Boat dolphin cruise features a 2 hour narrated bay, harbor, and gulf cruise.
While aboard you can get educated with a special sea school which includes underwater viewing, dolphin encounters, bird feedings, sightseeing, crab trap discussions, and shrimp net operations where everyone can check out and identify our catch.
This was such a nice and relaxing addition to our vacation. While the kids have a ton of energy, it was nice to let them listen and learn a few new things about dolphins and crabs at the mini sea school while we were able to just chill and take in the scenery.
We were able to see at least a dozen dolphins and one even came super close to our boat giving everyone a beautiful surprise. I would recommend this cruise if you are interested in a chill vibe and just to get out on the water for a relaxing boat ride. The boat was nice, lots of room and it was covered in case there’s rain or gets windy. This is an activity for all ages.
Post Sunset Walk Around Norriego Point Beach Access & Park
My daughter loves to look for nocturnal creatures Norriego Point is a public beach and is actually a peninsula which has a tip sitting between the Destin Harbor and the east pass, which connects the bay to the Gulf of Mexico. The point sits across from the Emerald Grande and Harborwalk, with a great view of the bridge connecting Destin to Okaloosa Island.
There are jetties providing swim areas with little nooks and crannies for lots of sea life creatures. It’s common to see hermit crabs, sand crabs, blue crabs and small bait fish at Norriego Point Beach. These smaller fish bring in sea gulls, herons, and pelicans.
Norriego Point is a cool type of beach experience for visitors because it’s unlike most other beaches. It feels almost private. It has the excitement of the harbor on one side with a sandy semi-protected beach for boaters, with protected sea pools on the other side and a jetty point swimming area connecting it all together.
We were happy to see the city skyline from the beach at night and soak in the view of the stars while soaking our feet in the tide pools. This was such a beautiful way to spend our last evening in Destin.
Day 3
Brunch at Lulu’s
We tried our best to chill and relax in the present and not take that many photos of our food while we were here. But, let me assure you–it was some of the best food on the Gulf of Mexico. I would highly recommend eating here if you find yourself in Destin, it was one of the freshest meals I’ve ever had in my life. Located on Choctawhatchee Bay, next to Legendary Marina & the Mid-Bay Bridge, LuLu’s Destin is home to live music every day. It also has an extensive Allergy Menu, a large Sandy Beach with Fountain for Youth, and the best kids menu I’ve ever seen!
Destin History & Fish Museum
This museum was packed with information on the origins of Destin, Florida. We were lucky and honored to get a private tour with Kathy, the grand-daughter of the man whom Destin is named after. This museum is small, charming and interesting. It’s very full of local history, fish facts, vintage household items, and black and white photographs reminiscent of the last 130 years. The entire staff of docents are enthusiastic and hospitable with a passion for their jobs that makes you feel happy to learn about everything they’re sharing. The $5 admission provided two hours of solid education, exploration and adventure. This place is perfect for all ages, but is especially suited for teenagers and history buffs.
This may have been our very first time on the Emerald Coast of Florida, but we are already have plans to make this an annual tradition!

West Virginia is known for mountain hiking , horseback riding, whitewater, fishing & zip lining. But did you know there’s a resort called Capon Springs and Farms that’s known for the healing properties in their spring water? Located a short 2 hour road-trip from the D.C, area, Capon Springs is a historic little gem that deserves not only all the praise it’s received over the past 90+ years, but a top spot on your travel bucket list!
Capon Springs Farms is also helping to highlight a fairly new sport called FlingGolf. Their regulation FlingGolf golf course was one of the first in the United States to be offered as one of the activities for guests toto enjoy during their stay. I recently partnered with Visit Seattle and Hilton Hotels on a trip out west to the Emerald City. I was pleasantly made aware just how seriously Seattle is taking the spread of coronavirus and I felt completely comfortable and safe visiting art museums and all of the tourist attractions while I was there.

The undisputed icon of Seattle, the Space Needle soars 605 feet in the air. Take the 43-second elevator ride to the outdoor observation deck, where you’ll be at the perfect vantage point to plan where to go next.
Seattle Aquarium & Woodland Park Zoo
Appropriately located on the waterfront, the Seattle Aquarium offers plenty of underwater exploration. In the Window on Washington Waters exhibit, spot native Puget Sound marine life such as salmon and sea anemones. Divers put on three shows daily to talk to aquarium visitors from underwater. Elsewhere, admire jellies, try to find the giant Pacific octopus, and feel a bumpy sea star.
This is one of the most interesting museums I’ve ever visited. The museum is dedicated to a lot of musicians who were born in Seattle. Chihuly Garden and Glass is an exhibit in the Seattle Center directly next to the Space Needle, showcasing the studio glass of Dale Chihuly. It opened in May 2012 at the former site of the defunct Fun Forest amusement park.

A popular spot for tourists and locals alike, while there are plenty of fresh produce stalls, including permanent stands filled with local fruits and vegetables year-round, the market is also home to a number of fish markets, butchers, flower shops, bakeries, dairy and specialty vendors, and a wide range of restaurants.
One of the best ways to experience Mount Rainier National Park is from a hiking trail and there are so many to choose from! A few of the best hikes in Mount Rainier National Park are short—yet still providing breathtaking views. And for those who have more endurance and crave longer hikes, there are many options. Sunset Sailing on Puget Sound
You can see Seattle’s “Must See Landmarks” from the water on an actual sail boat with Sailing Seattle! Imagine sharing your favorite bottle of wine with a few friends & watching the sunset behind the Olympic Mountains while a skilled crew navigates the local waters. It is the longest river entirely in Washington state.The Yakima River offers the best stream trout fishing in Washington, and honestly that’s not really up for debate. … The river is a tailwater, too, which means it’s productive for trout all year. In fact, the Yakima River was an easy choice for our run-down of the best fly fishing rivers in Washington.

A trip to Woodinville is about finding your new favorite wines.
I partnered with Hilton Hotels during my entire stay in Seattle. I stayed at the Hilton Garden Inn Seattle Downtown the first night I was in town. This hotel is centrally located to so many amazing shops and food! Very close to the Space Needle, Pike Place Market, T Mobile Park, Lumen Field and Climate Pledge Arena. It’s a breeze to get around on the Seattle Light Rail. The WA State Convention Center, Amazon Campus, and Seattle Hospitals are also nearby. If you’re heading on a cruise, this hotel is very convenient base for Piers 66 and 91.
After the first night, I popped over to Hilton Bellvue. This hotel is in the heart of the Bellevue business district and only a mile of Bellevue Botanical Garden and Downtown Park, with easy access to downtown Seattle, 10 miles away.
The last few nights of my tour of Seattle, I made the Embassy Suites Pioneer Square my home away from home. Embassy Suites Pioneer Square is a proud Hotel Partner of the Seattle Seahawks and is only steps from Lumen Field. Union Station is a block east for easy access to attractions like the Space Needle and Pike Place. The health club features a heated indoor pool, sun deck, cardio and weight equipment. Enjoy an all-you-can-eat free breakfast and a complimentary evening reception.
All of these hotels are phenomenal and I would highly recommend staying at any one of them or all of them if you can.

We wanted to experience the spaciousness that a cabin offers including a kitchenette, bathroom with shower stall, bunk beds, Queen sized bed and a loft perfect for rolling out up to at least 4 sleeping bags. Each cabin also comes with a parking spot and is equipped with a table and campfire ring and grill.
Surrounded by a lush forest with towering trees and moderate hilly trails, the modest surroundings of Yogi Bear’s Jellystone Park Camp lends itself to the feeling of spending the best family time in a lovely camp wonderland.

Waynesboro is a unique town perfect for outdoors enthusiasts. It has something for everybody. There’s hiking, biking and scenic drives. There’s paddling and world class fly fishing in the South River. The community is quaint with a walkable downtown featuring vibrantly colored murals throughout the small village. And in the heart of the area’s art galleries, shops and restaurants there’s even a nice theatre.
This is one of my favorite places I’ve ever traveled within the state of Virginia. Here are a few suggestions when planning your visit.
Stay
The Best Western Plus Waynesboro Inn & Suites
This award-winning hotel has been voted the Shenandoah Valley’s favorite for four years in a row. Located between a Cracker Barrel and The Fishing Pig, you can’t beat the location or the price. What To Do
Go Fly Fishing with a professional guide at South River Fly Shop
If you’ve been following me for a while on social media, you know that I’ve been fly fishing for almost two years now. South River Fly Shop provides guided fly fishing and instruction for those looking for a day full of fun on the water with some of the most sought after professionals. The shop offers fly rods, fly reels and gear all within one place. They are open 7 days a week. I recommend stopping by and saying hello.
Explore the Waynesboro Art Trail
Waynesboro has partnered with Traipse, a free smartphone app known for “puzzle hunt” tours of local attractions and businesses, to create a self-guided walking tour of the beautiful murals and other public art located throughout the small village.
Traipse (similar to virtual geocaching) allows visitors to engage with each location by answering riddle-like questions at each stop along the tour. Questions are only unlocked when you are physically present at the location of the site. Upon correctly answering the riddle at each stop, you will unlock another clue in the Bonus Challenge, as well.
Download the free Traipse app to get started on this 16-stop tour that takes roughly two hours. Get ready to experience the many marvelous murals adorning downtown Waynesboro and beyond, with a fun, scavenger hunt twist! This tour does not have to be completed all at once, so come back as often as you need to finish it. It can also be completed in any order, but we recommend starting at Stop #1 where there is free parking and you can easily walk to the first 11 stops, before moving your car to complete Stops #11-16. Hike or Bike The Blue Ridge Tunnel
The Blue Ridge Tunnel is a historic railroad tunnel built during the construction of the Blue Ridge Railroad in the 1850s. The tunnel was the westernmost and longest of four tunnels engineered by Claudius Crozet to cross the Blue Ridge Mountains at Rockfish Gap in central Virginia. You can find a nice little waterfall inside the tunnel where I noticed a few locals collecting water in their refillable water bottles. Pro Tip: Wear a headlamp or bring a small flashlight to add to the fun of your adventure and make it easier to see all the inner beauty this cute tunnel has to offer.

The Blue Ridge Bucha
Owned by husband-and-wife team Ethan and Kate Zuckerman, this company was one of the first Kombucha on Tap rooms to ever open on the East Coast. The Zimmermans opened up Blue Ridge Bucha with a mission to make delicious local kombucha in a refillable bottle. It’s been over one decade later and their commitment has saved over 1 million bottles and still counting.
The Blue Ridge Bucha team is still handcrafting their kombucha in the Blue Ridge Mountains of Virginia. They brew with the same culture that Ethan began working with over a decade ago, using Certified Organic ingredients to create refreshing, bright and unique flavors.
You can choose delicious local kombucha in a refillable bottle and take a step for the health of your body and your planet. I am confident that you will love an appreciate this company’s efforts to bring you the best tasting and most earth friendly kombucha in the state of Virginia.
Breakfast at The French Press
This has to be my favorite coffee cafe. It’s deceptively large inside. Don’t let the outside fool you. This boutique coffee shop has it all: great relaxing and chill vibes, the most delicious and appropriately caffeinated coffee you will ever taste, a wonderful array of breakfast bites and the most tempting treats on the menu! If I could have any coffee shop in my home neighborhood, it would be this one. We left feeling happy and ready to begin our day!
Lunch at Stella, Bella & Lucy’s
Stella, Bella & Lucy’s is nestled along the foothills of the Blue Ridge Mountains on the Main Street of Waynesboro. This charming little restaurant is a local favorite and upon entering, you will understand why everyone loves this place. The decor is reminiscent of an old fashioned era complete with lacey table decor, doilies and vintage plates. Warm and fuzzy vibes could be felt throughout the place, as the staff really takes care of their customers. Our lunch was absolutely delicious! I took the recommendation of our server and got the Pineapple boat with Chicken Salad and it was both beautiful in it’s presentation and also absolutely filling and yummy! My husband got the Reuben Sandwich and declared that it was the freshest tasting Reuben he’d ever had in his entire life. The kids shared a few plates and literally ate everything on their plates—ready to finish the day completely nourished and happy. This restaurant is definitely worth a stop! They offer breakfast, lunch and dinner.
Dinner at The Fishin Pig
The Fishin’ Pig is a Southern Fusion Restaurant consisting of a combination of Grady’s slow-smoked pork and chicken BBQ, Memphis Style dry-rubbed ribs, beef brisket and Shorty’s Famous seafood and chicken. The restaurant specializes in fish tacos, fried green tomatoes, homemade macaroni-n-cheese, collard greens, hush puppies, homemade coleslaw and of course, some of the best BBQ in the state of Virginia. There is literally something for every foodie in your party. We could not get enough! We arrived hungry and left happy!

Rockfish Gap Outfitters
This is a one stop shop for all your adventure gear needs. They have top labels such as Buff USA, Patagonia and North Face. I stopped by to get a few neck gaiters and some short sleeved tees for the family. Friendly customer service and a beautiful store!
