English classes in Toronto for adults aged 30 and over

This October, LSI Toronto welcomes English for 30+, a new programme designed exclusively for adults aged 30 and over! This specialised English course in Toronto brings together motivated international learners who want to improve their English, exchange ideas, and experience life in one of Canada‘s most dynamic and multicultural cities.

For many adults, learning English is about more than simply improving language skills. It’s about gaining confidence, building meaningful connections, and discovering new opportunities through communication. Whether your goal is to advance your career, prepare for international travel, or communicate more confidently in English, adult learning is shaped by the knowledge and experience you already bring to the classroom: professional expertise, cultural perspectives, and personal interests all contribute to richer discussions and meaningful learning experiences, creating opportunities to develop language skills through genuine communication.

English for 30+ brings these elements together in a welcoming and engaging learning environment where students aged 30 and over can learn alongside peers who share similar interests, experiences, and ambitions. Through engaging discussions, shared perspectives, and real-world communication, students develop their English while becoming part of an international student community in the heart of Toronto.

Learn alongside like-minded learners with English for 30+

The English for 30+ programme is designed exclusively for adults aged 30 and over, creating a learning environment where students can study alongside peers at a similar stage of life. Learning with other adult learners often leads to engaging conversations, and while students often come from different countries and cultures, they are often united by similar motivations, whether that’s advancing their careers, preparing for new opportunities, travelling more confidently, or continuing their personal development through language learning.

By bringing together learners with shared ambitions and interests, the programme encourages meaningful discussions and genuine connections: students have the opportunity to exchange ideas, explore different perspectives, and learn from one another in an atmosphere that is both supportive and stimulating. The result is an English-learning experience that combines language development with a sense of community, allowing students to improve their English while connecting with like-minded adults from around the world in the heart of Toronto.

Develop greater confidence and fluency in English

For many adults, learning English is about more than expanding vocabulary or improving grammar, but from using English more naturally and confidently. The ability to express ideas clearly, participate actively in discussions, and communicate effectively in a range of situations can make a significant difference both professionally and personally.

Through discussion-based lessons and interactive classroom activities, English for 30+ encourages students to use English actively and purposefully. Regular opportunities to communicate with classmates help learners develop greater fluency, improve their listening and speaking skills, and become more confident expressing themselves in English.

At LSI Toronto, students study 30 lessons per week and join classes with a maximum of 17 students, ensuring plenty of opportunities to participate actively and receive support from experienced teachers. The course is open to learners with a minimum English level of B2 (Upper Intermediate), creating a classroom where students can engage confidently in discussions and collaborative activities from the very beginning.

What is an LSI junior programme?

Looking for an international language-learning experience for young learners? LSI’s Winter and Summer Junior Programmes combine high-quality English lessons (French in Paris) with exciting activities, cultural excursions, and the opportunity to discover some of the world’s most popular destinations. Designed for students aged 6 to 11 and 12 to 17, these all-inclusive language programmes allow young learners to improve their language skills while experiencing life in another country, making international friends, and exploring a new culture. By combining classroom learning with real-world experiences, LSI’s Junior Programmes offer an engaging and rewarding way to learn a language abroad while creating memories that last long after the programme has ended.

What can students expect from an LSI junior programme?

At the heart of every Junior Programme are English lessons (French in Paris), where students attend classes from Monday to Friday and work on their speaking, listening, reading, and writing skills in a supportive international environment. Because classes bring together students from different countries, English quickly becomes a natural means of communication, encouraging learners to participate actively, build confidence, and use the language throughout the day rather than only during lessons.

This learning continues beyond the classroom through cultural immersion, which allows students to experience the language in the place where it is spoken. As they take part in a varied programme of afternoon activities and full-day Saturday excursions, students discover their destination while applying what they have learned in class to real-life situations. Whether they are exploring historic landmarks, visiting museums, enjoying sporting activities, or spending time in local neighbourhoods, they are constantly exposed to new vocabulary, different accents, and authentic cultural experiences, helping them develop a deeper understanding of both the language and the culture behind it.

As students spend more time learning, exploring, and socialising together, they become part of an international environment where friendships develop naturally and cultural exchange becomes part of everyday life. Conversations that begin in the classroom often continue during activities, meals, and excursions, creating countless opportunities for students to learn from one another while practising the language!

Where can young learners join an LSI junior programme?

From vibrant city centres and charming seaside towns to historic university cities, LSI’s Winter and Summer Junior Programmes give students the opportunity to experience some of the world’s most exciting destinations. Available across the UK, USA, Canada, Australia, New Zealand, and France, our Winter and Summer Junior Programmes combine high-quality language tuition with cultural discovery, international friendships, and unforgettable experiences.

While programme availability varies by destination, individual students can join our Junior Programmes in London, Brighton, Cambridge (summer only), San Diego, and Toronto, while groups can also choose from additional destinations including Boston, New York, Berkeley, Vancouver, Auckland, Brisbane, and Paris, opening the door to even more opportunities for language learning, cultural immersion, and international adventure.

Why choose an LSI junior programme?

Through these shared experiences, young international students not only improve their communication skills but also develop greater independence, gain a broader perspective of the world, and discover new cultures, ideas, and ways of thinking! While language learning remains the primary focus, using the language in real-life situations helps students move beyond the classroom and develop the confidence to communicate naturally in a variety of social and cultural settings.

Being immersed in an international environment also gives students the opportunity to learn from people with different backgrounds and perspectives, encouraging cultural awareness and a deeper understanding of the world around them. The friendships formed during lessons, activities, and excursions often become one of the most memorable parts of the experience, creating connections that continue long after the programme has ended.

The result is far more than a traditional language course: by combining high-quality language tuition with cultural immersion, activities, excursions, and international friendships, LSI’s Junior Programmes help students grow both academically and personally. Long after they return home, many students remember not only the progress they made in the classroom but also the places they discovered, the people they met, and the confidence they gained from successfully navigating a new cultural and linguistic environment!

Celebrating the Mid-Autumn festival at LSI! https://blog.lsi.edu/index.php/2026/09/celebrating-the-mid-autumn-festival-at-lsi/ Tue, 29 Sep 2026 12:19:46 +0000 https://blog.lsi.edu/?p=4926 read more]]> 29th September 2026

The Mid-Autumn Festival is one of the most important traditional celebrations in many East and Southeast Asian countries, including China, Vietnam, and Taiwan. Celebrated during the harvest season, it is a time for families and friends to come together, give thanks, and enjoy special foods under the full moon. Around the same time, Korea celebrates Chuseok, a major harvest festival that honours family, heritage, and gratitude through shared meals, traditional games, and cultural activities.

These celebrations provided a wonderful opportunity for students across several LSI schools to come together and share their cultures with fellow classmates. Asian students are an important part of our LSI school communities worldwide, and this year’s celebrations showcased the cultural exchange that makes studying at LSI such a rewarding experience. Students organised events at LSI schools around the world, giving their classmates the chance to experience the traditions, games, and foods that are central to the Mid-Autumn Festival and Chuseok. By sharing these celebrations with their classmates, students gave others a chance to learn about traditions that are an important part of life in their home countries.

At LSI London, students brought Korean culture to life through a range of traditional games and activities: students had the chance to try ttakjichigi, a game in which players use folded paper tiles to flip over their opponent’s tile, as well as gonggi, a popular game that involves tossing and catching small pieces with increasing speed and skill. The games gave students a chance to experience a small part of everyday Korean culture while learning more about the traditions that make Chuseok such a special celebration.

Meanwhile, at LSI Vancouver, students celebrated by sharing traditional Mid-Autumn Festival foods with classmates from around the world. The event was a great opportunity for students to come together, try different flavours, and learn about the customs behind one of Asia’s most important festivals. More than just a chance to enjoy delicious food, the event gave students an opportunity to share their culture with others, and it was a great example of how cultural exchange helps build friendships and brings the international LSI community closer together!

For many students, these events were an opportunity to share a tradition they have grown up with and celebrate it with friends from around the world! Thank you to all the students who made these events possible, your enthusiasm to share your traditions helped create memorable experiences for your classmates and highlighted the diversity that makes our LSI schools such welcoming environments to study!

These celebrations are a reminder that learning English at LSI is not only about developing language skills, but also about meeting people from different backgrounds, sharing experiences, and learning from one another. We look forward to seeing more cultural events and student-led activities across our schools in the months ahead.

Discover South Korea while learning Korean with HLI https://blog.lsi.edu/index.php/2026/08/discover-south-korea-while-learning-korean-with-hli/ Wed, 19 Aug 2026 15:54:39 +0000 https://blog.lsi.edu/?p=4910 read more]]> 19th August 2026

What if learning a language didn’t stop when the lesson ended?

Learning a language is about more than what happens during a lesson! With Home Language International (HLI), you stay in your teacher’s home and have one-to-one language lessons tailored to your level, interests and learning goals. But unlike a traditional language course, where the learning often ends when you leave the classroom, your time with HLI gives you the chance to keep using the language throughout the day: you might chat with your teacher over breakfast, practise what you have learned during an activity or simply find yourself having conversations as you go about your day! At the same time, you become part of your host teacher’s everyday life, giving you the chance to experience the local culture and way of life from a personal perspective.

HLI offers this immersive approach in more than 30 countries around the world, with a wide choice of languages and countries to explore. From English in the UK, Australia, Canada and the USA to French in France, Canada, Monaco and Switzerland, Spanish in Spain, Chile, Costa Rica, Cuba and Mexico, and languages including German, Italian, Japanese, Arabic, Chinese, Portuguese and more, there are plenty of ways to combine language learning with life in another country.

South Korea is now an HLI destination!

You can now explore South Korea while learning Korean with HLI. Whether you are already learning Korean or are interested in starting, staying with a host teacher gives you the chance to practise the language throughout your stay while experiencing the country at the same time. You can explore South Korea’s streets, experience its vibrant culture and get to know its way of life, while using Korean naturally in everyday situations.

HLI’s language immersion programmes are available in Seoul and Busan, giving you the chance to choose the destination that feels right for you. Seoul, South Korea’s vibrant capital, is a city where history, culture and modern life come together. You can explore traditional neighbourhoods and historic sites, discover contemporary Korean culture, or simply enjoy the city’s food, shops and lively streets. If you prefer a coastal setting, Busan offers a different experience, with its beaches, beautiful scenery and more relaxed atmosphere. Whichever you choose, staying with a host teacher means you can experience your destination from a local perspective and continue practising Korean long after your lessons have finished.

There are also different ways to shape your HLI experience depending on what you want to get out of your stay. You can choose a programme that focuses primarily on private Korean lessons, with your teacher adapting the lessons to your level, interests and learning goals. If you would like to spend more time experiencing your surroundings, you can combine your lessons with activities, giving you more opportunities to use Korean in everyday situations. There are also programmes that include cultural excursions, allowing you to discover more of South Korea while learning about the country and putting your language skills into practice. For those who prefer a more practical approach, activity-based learning offers the chance to learn through experiences rather than formal lessons, while a lessons-only option is available if you already have your own accommodation.

This flexibility means that your stay can be shaped around how you want to learn and how you want to experience South Korea. Whether your priority is developing your Korean, discovering the local culture, exploring your destination or simply becoming more confident using the language every day, HLI gives you the opportunity to combine all of these as part of one experience!

Ready to start your language journey in South Korea with HLI, or perhaps another destination has caught your eye?

Read our latest newsletter here: https://mailchi.mp/lsi.edu/hli-programmes-2026, email the HLI team at info@hli.co.uk or visit hli.co.uk to discover more about the programmes and destinations available, and start planning your perfect HLI immersion adventure!

LSI Education around the world

For more than 60 years, LSI Education has brought language learning to life through an international network of 14 schools (13 language schools and one sixth form college, LSI College) across the UK, USA, Canada, Australia, New Zealand, France and Switzerland.

At LSI, language learning goes hand in hand with experiencing the country where the language is spoken, giving our students the chance to use the language they are learning in everyday situations and experience it as it is naturally used. Our students can learn English in the UK, USA, Canada, Australia and New Zealand, French in France, and German in Switzerland. In the UK, students can choose between three LSI destinations: the energy and diversity of London, the relaxed seaside atmosphere of Brighton, and the academic heritage of Cambridge, each offering a distinctive setting in which to learn English and experience life in Britain. In the USA, students can choose between the energy of the East Coast, with schools in Boston and New York, or the sun-filled lifestyle of the West Coast, with schools in San Diego and Berkeley. Heading north, the LSI experience continues in Canada, from Toronto’s multicultural energy to Vancouver’s coastal setting where mountains, beaches and urban life come together, with both destinations offering our students plenty to experience beyond the classroom. Across the Pacific, LSI brings students to Australia and New Zealand, with schools in Brisbane and Auckland. Brisbane offers a relaxed subtropical setting, while Auckland combines a lively city atmosphere with easy access to beaches, islands and New Zealand’s distinctive natural landscape. In France, our school in Paris gives students the chance to learn French in one of the world’s most iconic cities, surrounded by its culture, history, art and unmistakable Parisian way of life, and in Switzerland, students can learn German in Zurich, a vibrant, international city where Swiss culture meets a dynamic urban lifestyle. With the lake and mountains close by, Zurich offers plenty to explore beyond the classroom, from its historic old town and lively cultural scene to its cafés, shops and outdoor spaces.

Whether learning English in the UK, Canada, USA, Australia or New Zealand, or French in Paris and German in Zurich, our students are immersed in the language from the moment they arrive. Learning a language where it is spoken gives students the opportunity to put their classroom learning into practice throughout their stay. As they interact with people, navigate daily life and experience the local culture, they encounter the language in real contexts and develop a more natural understanding of how it is used, while also gaining insight into the host country’s culture and way of life.

Broadening students’ horizons is at the heart of the LSI experience, with language learning providing a gateway to new countries, cultures, people and perspectives. Since 1965, LSI has welcomed students from around the world, and over more than six decades, this international experience has shaped a global network of schools, partners and relationships that connects students with opportunities well beyond the classroom. By living and learning in another country, students gain far more than language skills; they develop theconfidence and independence that come from navigating a new environment, while building the intercultural understanding needed to communicate and connect across cultures. These experiences can shape the choices students make long after their time at LSI, whether that means pursuing further international study, seeking opportunities abroad or taking the first steps towards a career with a global outlook.

For many students, the value of an LSI experience lies in this combination of language, travel and personal development: the chance to step outside the familiar, discover what lies beyond it and return with the skills, confidence and perspective to take on new opportunities. From the very first lesson to the experiences that follow, LSI gives students the opportunity to make learning a language part of a much wider international journey!

Make the most of the winter holidays with an international English programme

What if your winter break could be more than just time away from school? Imagine spending your holiday discovering a new city, meeting students from around the world, improving your English and trying activities you may never experience at home! Our Winter Junior Programmes for students aged 12 to 17 offer the perfect opportunity to do exactly that.

Designed for young learners, our Winter Junior Programmes combine English lessons with activities, excursions and accommodation, creating a complete experience where students can learn, explore and enjoy their time abroad. For students, it is a chance to discover a new culture, make international friends and build confidence using English every day. For parents, it offers peace of mind knowing their child is taking part in a well-organised language programme with experienced teachers, planned activities and a supportive environment. Taking place during the winter holiday, LSI Winter Junior Programmes are available in exciting destinations including LSI London Central, LSI College London Hampstead, LSI Brighton, LSI Cambridge and LSI San Diego. Each location offers a unique experience, from exploring a historic university city or a vibrant capital, to enjoying life by the sea or discovering the Californian lifestyle. Please note that these destinations are available for individual students, groups of students can join our Winter Junior Programmes in a wider range of destinations around the world.

Here are five reasons why an LSI Winter Junior Programme could be the perfect choice for your next winter adventure!

1. Use the school holiday for a purposeful experience

The winter break gives students a valuable opportunity to step away from their usual school routine and spend time doing something different. While holidays are an important chance to relax, they can also be the perfect moment to explore new interests, discover another culture and continue developing important skills outside the classroom. Starting to build strong English communication skills from an early age can open the door to future opportunities, from international study to connecting with people from different countries. For many students, the earlier they become comfortable using English, the easier it becomes to communicate naturally and confidently in a wider range of situations!

An LSI Winter Junior Programme allows students to make the most of their winter holiday by improving their English skills in an engaging and enjoyable way. Alongside language lessons, students take part in cultural and sports activities in the afternoons, as well as Saturday excursions that allow them to explore their destination and discover more about the local area: rather than simply visiting a new country, students become part of a structured international experience where learning, activities and cultural discovery are combined throughout the programme. When they return home, they take with them more than improved language skills — they leave with new experiences, a broader understanding of the world and the confidence that comes from successfully adapting to a new environment!

2. Winter is the perfect time to experience a destination differently

Travelling during the winter holiday gives students the opportunity to experience a country from a different perspective. Rather than visiting a destination only during the busiest travel seasons, students can discover what everyday life is like at another time of year and experience the unique atmosphere that winter brings, and every destination has its own character during the colder months!

In the UK, winter allows students to discover a different side of the country, when cities take on a quieter pace and seasonal traditions become part of everyday life. Winter brings a different character to London, with streets decorated for the festive period, seasonal markets, outdoor ice-skating venues and cultural events taking place across the city. Visiting places such as Covent Garden, Trafalgar Square and Hyde Park allows students to see how public spaces are transformed during winter and how traditions such as Christmas markets, light displays and seasonal performances form part of British culture. Cambridge offers a completely different experience, where beautiful architecture, riverside scenery and centuries of stories create a setting unlike anywhere else. Walking through areas such as King’s Parade, the Backs and the historic centre, students can discover a city where education has shaped everyday life for hundreds of years. Brighton provides another perspective on British life during winter. Known for its seaside location and creative culture, the city shows students that coastal destinations are not only summer locations. Students can visit Brighton Pier, the Royal Pavilion and The Lanes, and the quieter winter coastline offers a different experience from the busy summer season, allowing students to appreciate the city’s architecture, history and local character.

3. Meet students from around the world and build lifelong friendships

One of the greatest advantages of joining an LSI Winter Junior Programme is becoming part of an international community. Unlike a holiday where students mainly travel with family or friends, the programme brings together young learners from many different countries, creating opportunities to interact with people they might never otherwise meet. As students work together in lessons, participate in afternoon activities and join Saturday excursions, English naturally becomes the shared language that allows everyone to communicate. This means that practising English is no longer limited to the classroom and becomes part of everyday conversations, whether students are planning an activity, sharing a meal or discussing their own cultures. At the same time, these interactions encourage students to understand different traditions, perspectives and ways of life, helping them become more open-minded and culturally aware. Long after the programme ends, many students remain in contact with the friends they have made, turning a winter course into the beginning of an international network that can last for years!

4. Experience what studying abroad is really like

Travelling abroad as a student is very different from visiting a country on holiday! Instead of seeing a destination only as a tourist, young students become part of an international learning community, following a daily routine that combines lessons, activities and cultural experiences. Our Winter Junior Programme introduces international students to this environment in a way that is appropriate for their age: they study alongside young people from different countries, work together during lessons and activities, and communicate in English throughout the day. As a result, they gain first-hand experience of learning in a multicultural setting where different perspectives, languages and cultures come together. This type of experience also helps students develop a broader understanding of how education can differ from one country to another, as they are introduced to different classroom approaches, encouraged to participate actively in lessons and exposed to new ways of thinking and collaborating with others. These experiences complement what students learn at school in their home countries by showing them how learning can take place in an international context.

5. A complete winter language programme designed for young learners

Planning an educational trip abroad involves much more than choosing a destination, families need to consider accommodation, lessons, activities, transport and children’s wellbeing, while also making sure that the programme offers the right balance between learning and free time. LSI Winter Junior Programmes bring these elements together in one complete experience designed specifically for young learners.

Students begin their day with English lessons that focus on developing their language skills, then continue using English through organised afternoon activities and cultural visits. Because these activities are connected to the destination students are visiting, learning continues naturally as they explore new places, take part in group experiences and interact with other international students. The programme also includes optional Saturday excursions, giving students the opportunity to discover more of their destination and gain a deeper understanding of the culture around them.

Throughout their stay, students live in comfortable accommodation where safety, care and wellbeing are important priorities. Having a welcoming place to return to at the end of each day allows students to feel settled while they focus on enjoying their lessons, activities and time abroad!

This July, LSI London welcomed the BBC Learning English team as part of BBC Learning English On Tour 2026, bringing a unique learning experience directly to our international student community. The visit gave students currently studying English at LSI London the opportunity to take part in interactive sessions, explore new approaches to language learning, and learn more about the resources available to help them practise and improve their English beyond the classroom. Working with students from different levels, the BBC Learning English team shared practical advice and introduced learners to a variety of free tools designed to support their progress. The visit was a valuable opportunity for our students to connect with one of the world’s most recognised English language learning organisations while continuing to build their confidence and develop their communication skills.

From News to Learning: The story of BBC Learning English

The BBC (British Broadcasting Corporation) is one of the world’s best-known and most respected media organisations. Founded in 1922, the BBC has a long history of providing trusted news, entertainment, educational programmes and digital content to audiences across the UK and around the world. As a public service broadcaster, the BBC aims to inform, educate and entertain people through a wide range of platforms, including television, radio and digital learning resources. Over the years, the BBC has become recognised internationally for the quality and accessibility of its content, reaching millions of people in different countries and communities. Beyond its role in media, the BBC also plays an important part in supporting education and lifelong learning. Through its international services and educational programmes, it helps people develop new skills, improve their knowledge, and communicate across cultures and languages.

One of the BBC’s most popular educational services is BBC Learning English, with a long history of supporting English learners, beginning with radio programmes designed to help international audiences learn and practise English. Over the years, BBC Learning English has continued to evolve, transforming from traditional radio broadcasts into a global digital learning platform that makes English learning accessible to people around the world. As technology has changed, so has the way learners engage with the service, with a growing collection of free online resources designed for students at different levels. Today, BBC Learning English offers a wide variety of engaging materials, including videos, podcasts, articles, quizzes and interactive activities that help learners develop their vocabulary, grammar, pronunciation and listening skills. These resources are designed to support learners at every stage of their English journey, whether they are building their foundations or working towards more advanced communication skills. By providing practical and accessible learning materials, BBC Learning English allows students to continue practising beyond the classroom and develop greater confidence in using English in everyday situations.

How does professional development support language teachers’ growth?

Language teaching is constantly evolving! As classrooms become more diverse, technology continues to transform education and learners expect more interactive and personalised experiences, teachers need to continually develop their skills to remain effective and confident educators. Today’s language teachers need more than a strong knowledge of grammar and vocabulary; they need the ability to create meaningful learning experiences, adapt their teaching approaches and inspire students to communicate with confidence. Whether teaching English or French, educators play a vital role in helping students develop their language abilities while gaining the skills and understanding needed to connect with people from different backgrounds. As education continues to evolve, continuous professional development has become an essential part of every teacher’s journey. By exploring new methodologies, exchanging ideas with other educators and strengthening their own language skills, teachers can discover fresh approaches that make their lessons more engaging, inclusive and effective. Professional learning also encourages teachers to reflect on their practice, develop new skills and remain inspired throughout their careers.

LSI’s English for Teaching and French for Teaching courses have been designed specifically for language educators who want to take their teaching further. These professional development courses combine language improvement with practical teaching methodology, helping participants enhance their professional communication skills while discovering innovative approaches to language education. The English for Teaching course supports teachers who want to develop their English proficiency for professional contexts, enabling them to communicate more naturally in the classroom, explain concepts with greater confidence, and create richer learning experiences for their students. Through practical language development and methodology-focused activities, participants strengthen both their linguistic accuracy and their ability to teach effectively. Similarly, the French for Teaching course is designed for educators who want to improve their French language skills while expanding their teaching practice. By combining language development with modern pedagogical approaches, the course helps teachers feel more confident using French in educational settings and provides practical strategies for creating engaging French lessons.

Both programmes go beyond language learning alone: they introduce educators to learner-centred methodologies, digital tools, international classroom practices and cultural perspectives that support effective language teaching in today’s world. Participants have the opportunity to collaborate with teachers from different backgrounds, share classroom experiences and gain new ideas that can be adapted to their own teaching environments. Whether you are looking to refresh your teaching methods, improve your professional language skills or gain new inspiration for your classroom, our English for Teaching and French for Teaching courses provide the opportunity to grow as an educator, connect with an international teaching community and continue making a positive impact on your learners.

What skills will you develop with LSI’s English for Teaching and French for Teaching courses?

Strong language proficiency is at the heart of effective language teaching, and a teacher’s role is not only to introduce vocabulary and grammar but also to guide students in using the language naturally and accurately. To do this successfully, educators need the linguistic flexibility to explain ideas clearly, respond to questions, adapt their communication and provide students with a reliable model of the language they are learning. For teachers of English or French, developing professional language skills goes beyond improving general fluency, it involves gaining the ability to communicate effectively in a classroom environment, from giving clear instructions and explaining complex concepts to managing discussions and supporting learners with different needs. These skills allow teachers to create more interactive lessons and encourage students to participate. A deeper understanding of the language also helps educators make more effective teaching decisions: by recognising common challenges learners may face, teachers can adapt their explanations, select appropriate examples and design activities that better support student progress.

While linguistic ability provides the foundation, effective educators also need the right teaching methodologies to engage learners, encourage communication and create lessons that respond to different learning needs. The way a teacher plans activities, manages classroom interaction and adapts their approach can have a significant impact on how students experience and progress through the learning process. Our English for Teaching and French for Teaching courses introduce participants to modern, learner-centred teaching methodologies designed to place students at the heart of the classroom. Rather than focusing only on traditional teaching approaches, the courses explore practical strategies that encourage active participation, collaboration and meaningful language use: teachers learn how to create lessons that motivate learners, build their communication skills and support different levels of ability. You will explore how to design lessons with clear objectives, choose appropriate activities and create opportunities for students to practise the language in a supportive environment, moving beyond simply delivering information to creating learning experiences where students actively develop their own skills.

Digital technology is becoming an increasingly important part of modern language education, offering new opportunities to make lessons more interactive. When integrated effectively, digital tools can support communication, encourage collaboration and provide learners with additional ways to practise and develop their language skills both inside and beyond the classroom. For teachers, understanding how to use technology purposefully is essential to creating learning experiences that are meaningful, accessible and aligned with their teaching objectives. Rather than using digital tools simply for the sake of innovation, effective technology integration requires teachers to understand which resources best support their learners’ needs and how they can enhance existing teaching approaches. From interactive activities and multimedia resources to collaborative platforms and tools that encourage independent learning, technology can help educators create more varied lessons while maintaining a strong focus on sound teaching principles. During the course, participants explore practical ways to incorporate digital resources into their teaching practice and discover how technology can support different aspects of language learning. Ultimately, these skills enable teachers to use digital innovation with purpose, creating more dynamic classrooms where students are supported and encouraged to take an active role in their learning.

Professional development becomes even more valuable when teachers have the opportunity to learn alongside educators from different backgrounds. By sharing ideas, exchanging experiences and discussing different approaches to teaching, participants gain new perspectives that can challenge their existing practices and inspire fresh ideas for the classroom, and teachers are able to reflect on their own methods while discovering new approaches that can strengthen their teaching practice. Our English for Teaching and French for Teaching courses create an international learning environment where language teachers from around the world come together to explore teaching strategies, discuss common challenge, and learn from one another’s experiences. Through these exchanges, educators gain a broader understanding of how language teaching takes place in different contexts and can develop adaptable strategies to meet the needs of diverse learners. This international perspective naturally leads to a deeper understanding of the relationship between language and culture: by exploring different cultural perspectives and incorporating authentic materials into their lessons, teachers can help learners develop a richer understanding of the language they are studying. As a result, students develop not only stronger communication skills but also greater cultural awareness, allowing them to engage more effectively with English or French in a variety of contexts.

Why choose LSI’s English for Teaching and French for Teaching courses?

In France and the UK, the course is offered as a 30-lesson-per-week programme, and from 2027, it will be an ideal option for Erasmus+ students looking to combine professional development with an international learning experience.

By choosing an LSI English for Teaching or French for Teaching course, participants become part of a professional learning experience designed to broaden their skills, perspectives and approach to language education through a combination of expert-led training, practical methodology sessions and collaborative activities. Learning alongside educators from different countries creates a valuable exchange of ideas, where participants can compare teaching approaches, share classroom experiences, and gain insight into different educational contexts. These international perspectives encourage teachers to think critically about their own practice and develop adaptable strategies that respond to the needs of today’s diverse learners. Studying at an LSI school also means becoming part of a vibrant, multicultural community where teachers can connect with learners from around the world and experience life in an international environment. Each school offers a varied social activity calendar, giving participants the opportunity to explore their host city, discover local culture and build connections outside the classroom. These experiences help create a richer learning journey, where professional development is combined with personal growth and cultural discovery!
