Rehearsals began this week for our next production – John Godber’s HAPPY FAMILIES

Preparations are gathering pace for The Alexandra Players’ autumn production of HAPPY FAMILIES by John Godber, with the cast now well into rehearsals ahead of opening night this October.

Director Mark Higgins has brought together a talented cast to tell this touching, funny and nostalgic story about family life, relationships and the memories that shape us.

We’re delighted to introduce the cast:

Running for four performances only from Wednesday 28th to Saturday 31st October 2026, HAPPY FAMILIES promises an evening of laughter, warmth and heartfelt moments that many audience members will recognise from their own family lives.

And just like that, our journey around Britain has come to an end.

On behalf of the entire cast and crew of “Bill Bryson’s Notes from a Small Island”, we’d like to say a heartfelt thank you to everyone who came along and supported our production this week.

With temperatures soaring outside, we were especially grateful to see so many familiar faces joining us at Alexandra Hall and sharing in Bill Bryson’s wonderfully funny, nostalgic and affectionate look at Britain.

Productions like this simply wouldn’t be possible without the support of our audiences, volunteers, backstage team, front-of-house helpers and everyone who continues to champion local theatre. Thank you for travelling with us on this adventure.

We’re also looking forward to sharing more photographs from the production with you very soon, so keep an eye on our page for those.

Farewell, Dear Friend

Today we bid farewell to Andrew. It was both enlightening and deeply touching to hear about his life and the many people he touched through his dedication to the community and the church groups he so faithfully attended.

We extend our sincere thanks to Rev Laura Faturoti for the beautiful service and heartfelt eulogy held at St George’s, Westcombe Park today.

Andrew will be greatly missed by all of us at The Alexandra Players.
