When Associate Professor of Psychology Dr. Jenny Froese accompanied Sterling College students to the 2026 Southwestern Psychological Association Conference in Frisco, Texas, she was continuing a tradition that had a significant impact on her own undergraduate experience.

As a Sterling College student from 1998 to 2002, Froese attended the conference under the mentorship of Professor Emeritus Dr. Arn Froese. Today, she provides the same opportunity to her own students, helping them conduct and present research in a professional academic setting.

Sterling had two students who presented: Sadie Waller, of Independence, Mo., and Broc Harland, of Ulysses, Kan.

Harland presented his research on perceptions of bias and news credibility at this year’s conference. The project represented more than a year of work and culminated in the opportunity to share his findings with students, faculty, and professionals from across the region.

Following the conference, Harland reflected on his experience.

“Still taking in this moment. I had the opportunity to present my research at SWPA 2026 in Frisco, Texas, something I’ve been working toward since Spring 2025. My study focused on perceptions of bias and news credibility, and being able to share that work meant a lot to me,” said Harland.

He continued, “More than anything, I’m just grateful. Grateful to learn from others, grateful for the conversations, and grateful for the encouragement to keep going. I thank God for opening this door and allowing me to grow through this experience,” said Harland.

For Froese, the reflection was a reminder of the lasting impact these opportunities can have on students.

“My experience attending SWPA was critical in my professional development. It really helped me understand the world of a professional psychologist. As a professor, it is really rewarding to see my students experiencing the same professional growth. Many of my students who present go on to become successful professionals in the field of psychology,” said Froese.

The Southwestern Psychological Association Conference provides students with opportunities to present original research, engage with scholars in the field, and gain experience communicating their findings in a professional environment.

“SWPA is an excellent venue for students to grow as professionals. I’ve seen students gain a lot of confidence by presenting. They are sometimes nervous before they present, but then they realize that they have presentation skills that are on par with other professionals,” said Froese.

Through opportunities such as undergraduate research and conference presentations, Sterling College students gain hands-on experience that prepares them for graduate study, careers, and lifelong learning.

Sterling College Announces Fall 2026 Chapel Schedule and Speakers

Sterling College has announced its Fall 2026 chapel schedule, featuring guest speakers, faculty, students and ministry leaders who will guide the campus community in times of worship, spiritual growth and reflection. The chapel season began with the annual Keynote Convocation on Wednesday, August 19, led by Campus Pastor Jose Carrillo, who shared a message titled “Forward in Faith” based on Joshua 1:8-9.

Spiritual Emphasis Week will take place September 8-11, providing additional opportunities for worship and spiritual formation across campus. Joel Grizzle will deliver the Wednesday chapel message during the week on September 9.

Featured speakers this fall include Camden Pulliam, senior vice president of institutional relations and assistant professor of Christian studies at Midwestern Baptist Theological Seminary, who will speak on September 2. The College will also welcome Roy Jaye, Matt Jaeger, Kevin Guffey, Fred Miller and Jason Streit during the semester.

The chapel season will include messages from students, campus leaders and community guests. Notable gatherings include Homecoming Chapel with Travis Blake on September 30, a presentation from Harmony House and Breaking Grounds on October 21, Senior Chapel with Gibson Coyle on November 4 and Christmas Chapel on December 2.

“We are excited for another year as we continue to proclaim the gospel faithfully. We seek to give glory to God for all He is doing in and through our campus community,” said Jose Carrillo, campus pastor.

Sterling College welcomes new faculty for 2026-27 academic year

Sterling College welcomed seven new faculty members to campus for the 2026-27 academic year. Classes begin on Wednesday, August 20.

“We are excited to welcome this group to Sterling College! In each of their interview processes, it was clear how God was moving in their lives and directing them to faculty positions here. We are confident they will have great positive impact on campus and in the community and will share their hearts of service for the Lord,” said Dr. Erin Laudermilk, provost and vice president for academic affairs.

Robert Brown joins Sterling College as assistant professor of language and literature. Brown holds a bachelor’s degree in English with a concentration in writing from Biola University and a master’s degree in English from California State University, Fullerton, and he is currently a Ph.D. candidate in English at Baylor University. His academic focus is American literature, and he enjoys watching films, reading and investing in relationships in the local church.

Dr. Olaseni “Seni” Fadipe comes to Sterling as assistant professor of mathematics. Fadipe earned his undergraduate degrees in Nigeria and his Ph.D. from Central Michigan University and previously taught at the Community College of Aurora in Colorado. A native of Lagos, Nigeria, he is an avid soccer fan, enjoys a wide variety of music and has self-published two books.

Kendra Grizzle joins the faculty as assistant professor of communication and media after serving Sterling College as registrar and an adjunct instructor. Grizzle holds a Bachelor of Science in journalism and public relations from Texas A&M University and a Master of Arts in communication and leadership from Washburn University. She and her husband, Joel, live in Lyons with their three children and share a passion for wrestling and Texas A&M.

Melissa Pellegrino joins Sterling College as assistant professor of art and design. Pellegrino holds a bachelor’s degree in German with a minor in art and dance from Southern Utah State University and a master’s degree in German from Portland State University, and she has taught at the College of Southern Nevada since 2002. She and her husband, Larry, have three children and two grandsons. She enjoys reading, hiking, biking, swimming and cooking.

Mitzi Suhler transitions to the faculty as assistant professor of business after serving Sterling College in several roles since 2007, most recently as vice president for enrollment services. She has also taught for Sterling College Online for several years. Suhler and her husband, Dennis, live in Lyons and have three children and seven grandchildren. She enjoys crafting, reading and spending time with her family.

Dr. Geoffrey Uhal joins Sterling College as assistant professor of history. Uhal earned a bachelor’s degree in history from the University of North Georgia, a master’s degree in public administration from Webster University and a Ph.D. in history from Liberty University. A historian and reconstructive archaeologist, he studies the military, intellectual and cultural history of ancient through medieval Europe and has taught for nearly three decades.

Kelsey Wise joins the faculty as assistant professor of music. Wise earned a Bachelor of Music in piano accompaniment and a Master of Music in piano pedagogy from Wichita State University, where she also served as an adjunct instructor. An experienced accompanist, she enjoys spending time with her family, walking her dog, running, baking and thrifting.
