Honestly, if you were going to try and stop them from fighting, it probably wouldn’t go well. But that’s besides the point, because Mezco Toyz’ latest figure just might be their most impressive yet.
The mighty Godzilla is cast in his classic visage for the upcoming Ultimate Godzilla, and has all kinds of awesome stuff built-in. Nope, he’s not just a chunk of plastic, as this figure can light-up and has sound effects.
His fins and movable mouth illuminate with (simulated) nuclear power, and the figure sports 10 points of articulation plus an articulated tail. There’s an internal structure built into it, so it should be pretty posable all by itself. And as for the buttons that operate the sounds, no worries that they’ll ruin the visuals. Mezco says they’ll be hidden on his mighty back.
Just aside from all that too, the sheer size of this figure is impressive. He’s 18″ tall, and an incredible 33″ long “from teeth to tail”. If you’re a kaiju fan, or just love the King of the Monsters, he should make for an impressive centerpiece to a collection.

Pretty quietly, the One:12 Collective line from Mezco Toyz has been building an impressive array of horror movie monsters… and Evil Dead’s Ash. While the latter has a place in my personal collection, the whole set is worth a look for you if you’re into slashers and creeps from beyond.
So far, and again this is aside from Ashley, we have seen figures from Dawn of the Dead, IT, Halloween, Nosferatu… and now Texas Chainsaw Massacre. Yep, old Leatherface is joining the Collective. But which version of him will it be? Well, a few actually, and they’re all rolled up into one figure that you can dress how you like.
The monstrous villain comes complete with three portraits depicting different movie looks, as well as a bunch of outfit choices and copious accessories. So your shelf can be decked out in whatever kind of mayhem you prefer.

Yes, this one came out of pretty much nowhere. I didn’t even realize Mezco was doing a second (?) Blade figure, and yet here he is. And wow is he looking cool.
While the previous release featured the much more iconic look of the vampire slayer, this new one is more tactical. Just like that previous version though, he’s absolutely loaded with accessories. And as I mentioned, this Marvel hero is expected to ship fast.

Is there a more celebrated variation on Batman than director Tim Burton’s 1989 vision? Probably not. The classic design, which created a generation of Batman fans, is iconic and just plain cool looking.
Now toy-maker Mezco has revealed plans to add this unique (at the time anyway) vision of the Dark Knight to their One:12 Collective line. It’s only a tease, and one that uncovers very little of the figure, but man does it look great.
Now, NECA’s figure from a few years ago was admittedly awesome. And it had much the same level likeness to actor Michael Keaton as this one appears to. But keep in mind one of the biggest elements in the One:12 – the articulation.
The Collective is uber-posable across the boards, and that might make for the definitive version of this Batman. I say that even though the Keaton Batsuit was famously unposable in real life. But who wants that for their toy shelf?
While this is looking awesome though, it comes at a premium price. Batman 89 will run you $110 USD when it ships out this coming fall. If that does not dissuade you though, you can pre-order this figure starting tomorrow, on January 15th, 2020.

Two Cables
The version of Cable that’s arriving in Mezco’s One:12 Collective is already pretty awesome. He’s styled more after his first few years in Marvel’s comics, and even has (a version of) those giant Rob Liefeld shoulder pads. This new edition though, is a shade more modern. And, for that matter, a little more exclusive.
Cable here is sold through Previews catalog only, so you’ll only find this figure at comic and specialty shops. The more X-Men-influenced costume he’s decked out in is more modern too, though certainly iconic in its own right.
Much like the first version of the character too, this Cable comes complete with a load of accessories. Not only that, but his cybernetic eye lights up, so there’s a little extra coolness to be had. And yes, that’s true for both heads.
Just a note here too: that big gun does not light up. It might look like it does in the detail image, but it does not. Somebody got a little crazy with the glowy effects. Clocking in at $100 USD already though, it’s probably a good thing that the gun doesn’t illuminate.

Defending Hell’s Kitchen
The Daredevil series is pretty easily the best of the Netflix lot. And to that end, seeing a new figure in the One:12 Collective makes perfect sense. This is a pretty cool one too, as it’s the outfit that actor Charlie Cox wore in the first season of the show.
Clad all in black and with a holster (for his billie clubs) on his leg, this is a DD from before he was DD. As we saw, the hero eventually went back to this look for the third season that’s just been released, but for Mezco’s purposes, this is the season one “Vigilante” DD.

Green power
One of the oldest Lanterns in the DCU, John Stewart is second only to Hal Jordan himself in terms of tenure. Not only has he been around for a while, but Stewart has become a real fan favorite.
His popularity skyrocketed after he starred in the Justice League animated series, and it’s pretty much stayed that way. Depending on who you’re listening to, he might even be featured opposite Jordan in a big budget Lanterns movie. So it’s understandable then that he’s the first Lantern chosen for the One:12 Collective.
Not that I wouldn’t have wanted a Hal Jordan before Stewart, but if he’s who we’re getting first, I’m down. As usual with the One:12, this figure will be packed in with a bunch of cool accessories. And as we’ve seen lately, he’ll sport light-up features as well.

Black and gold
I can’t say, as an Iron Man fan, I like the Model 42 all that much. But that’s me. I tend to prefer the more iconic looks for Marvel’s heroes. All the same though, this is one of the most standout of Tony Stark’s creations.
The distinct black and gold, taking the place of the traditional red and gold, is a huge change. Honestly, it does look pretty neat, and it’s easy to see why there are fans who love it. That’s probably why Mezco chose it as a new Iron Man variant figure.
While the standard version of old shellhead isn’t even out yet, the toy-maker has announced the Model 42 as a surprise offering. The figure is coming up fast too, hitting next month (November).

Cable Collective
While I love this line in general, the X-Men figures kind of hold a special place in my heart. So far we’ve gotten one character with (four versions of) Wolverine, but more are on the way. Cyclops and Magneto are coming up, and Cable is here right now to pre-order.
Cable is set to ship in the May to June 2019 timeframe, and does cost a bit more than your standard One:12’er. That’s due to the fact that he’s got some lighting built in. Cable features a light up eye (one in each head sculpt) as well as part of his chest armor. He’s also got a load of cool accessories.
All of this adds up to a spicy $100 price tag. Yes, that’s a little high for a 6″ scale figure, but he could be worth it if you’re a big fan.

Rising
As far as action figures go, the idea of a trilogy of them is pretty unique. Books, movies, video games, sure all of those are fitting forms of media to receive sequels. But toys? That train of thought isn’t really a part of that industry. If you have a series of Batman figures for example, no one thinks of the successive ones as sequels. They’re just the next one in the line.
But this is different. Mezco is calling this trilogy a trilogy for a good reason – it is one. The first of its kind in the action figure realm as far as I can remember. They’re not mincing words with what they want to do here either.
Ascending Knight is the first (rookie Batman), which will be followed by Sovereign Knight (current Batman). After that… well actually the third hasn’t been named yet. But of course, there will be one, and it doesn’t seem like it’ll be the Batman Beyond figure that’s also on the way.
Before receiving this figure, I was looking much more forward to Sovereign. I’m a pretty big Batman fan, and the look of the modern Bat that Mezco has going clicked for me. But that was before I got the Ascending.
I love this figure. It’s not over-done, it’s not lacking in any way; as a Batman fan, I’ll say it’s almost perfect. Not that there aren’t things I’d have done differently mind you, but the Ascendant Knight is an absolutely phenomenal addition to the One:12 Collective.
I’ll explain…
Ascendant Detailing
The costume on this version of Batmen is meant to be “early”. And that means it’s supposed to be Bruce’s first run an a fully functional Bat-suit. As such, there are elements here that aren’t seen typically.
The “ears” on the cowl are longer than you might be used to, and the fins on the gauntlets are shorter. The detailing on the bodysuit itself has a sort of rough look to it too, and doesn’t look as featureless as it typically does. All of this gives Ascending Knight a unique look, while still holding onto the iconic “Batman” form-factor.
I both like it and don’t. Overall, everything works just fine, and looks great, but the “tech” look that Mezco has given the suit is a little put-offish at first if you’re a long time fan. Also, and I know this is nitpicking, but I would have loved to have seen the yellow oval behind the Bat-symbol. That to me is as classic as it gets.
The standard edition of this figure comes in black and grey, which is also a departure. In the current and classic DC continuity, Batman had a kind of pieced together costume at first, including purple gloves. That’s absent here.
It’s worth noting though, that there’s also a blue and grey variant that’s exclusive to Previews. So if you dig that 80s/early-90s look, that ones for you.
Articulation and accessories
If you’ve posed a One:12 figure before, then you already know how great these figures look and what they can do. Poseability is a huge plus in this line, and it’s something that carries over to Batmen here.
If you’ve been frustrated by some of Mattel’s Batman figures, and their general lack of articulation, you’re going to love the Ascending Knight. This figure has points of articulation in spades, and can be set in pretty much whatever pose you like. I have mine crouched menacingly over a display case, like he’s on top of a skyscraper. Looks awesome.
Adding to the possibilities for the Ascending Knight are the accessories. The One:12 usually doesn’t skimp on them, and Batman is loaded for bear.
He comes with three sets of hands, two heads (Bruce Wayne and Batman), his grapnel gun (with multiple hook attachments), a mini-crossbow-thing, and a mess of batarangs. Of course, he’s also packed in with the typical One:12 stand and “flight” attachment, and does have the cape-holders in the box as well. So you can display Batman dropping down, with his cape properly trailing behind him.
This is a gorgeous Batman figure, and one that I can’t imagine any fan not digging big time. It hits all the high notes for the character, and doesn’t leave anything out in terms of what you expect from the One:12 line. If you’re looking to add a comic book Bat to your One:12 shelf, look no further.
I cannot wait for the Sovereign.
