Randy Janzen, the technology foreman at SD33, carefully researched and selected the POL solution to provide students with access to cutting-edge learning technologies. Axis Technical Services seamlessly integrated POL by replacing outdated copper wiring infrastructure, eliminating the need for cooling systems and multiple distribution closets. This resulted in improved functionality, cost savings, and operational benefits.
AxisTech’s installation of the POL system optimized time management and reduced the need for troubleshooting, increasing productivity with fewer human resources. The solution offered numerous advantages, including streamlined operational costs, eco-friendliness, and virtually unlimited bandwidth through innovative fiber optic cables and equipment.
Due to limited pathways, space, and infrastructure in the two-decade-old Sardis Secondary School, a network upgrade was essential. Alta Gas, a leading North American energy infrastructure company, contacted the AxisTech Team regarding several BC Hydro facilities that required fibre optic termination testing and installation. The three facilities, Forrest Kerr, Volcano Creek, and McLymont Creek, are all located 1,000 km northwest of Vancouver, British Columbia, Canada.
AxisTech quickly dispatched one of their top “large project foreman”, David Mayhew, who specializes in Outside Fibre-Optic Installation Capabilities, to the Forrest Kerr facility to ascertain the specific challenges of the BC Hydro structure. After weeks of extensive fibre-optic assessment, design, plan and installation, the six-turbine Forrest Kerr plant was nearing completion.

Upgraded adapters offer better network capabilities, faster data transfer, and improved system reliability. The team of technicians ensured secure and standard connections.

AxisTech installed data towers to enhance network capabilities, enabling faster data transfer, better reliability, and increased capacity for growth at the remote facility.

AxisTech’s solution allows for quicker service, better system reliability, and reduced downtime. By protecting delicate fibres from harsh terrain, they ensure solid reliability.

State-of-the-art turbine rooms houses switchgear and electrical equipment to improve overall efficiency and reliability of the facility’s system.

The Forrest Kerr facility features an underground powerhouse that utilizes the force of water to generate clean, renewable energy.

The AxisTech team worked 2km below ground at Forrest Kerr to install electrical infrastructure and fiber optic communications for the hydroelectric plant.

The multiple turbines generate hydroelectric power, which requires reliable fibre optic installations to control operational systems.

As deadlines were very pressing the AxisTech team stepped up and completed a much larger scope than originally anticipated. The team provided Cisco network switches, specialty fiber converters, communications equipment and specialty cables. The fiber team terminated OPGW fiber cables which are run with the power lines with the ground conductor.
AxisTech also installed and completed controls wiring and gave on site support to various equipment commissioning teams. Axis Technical Services rotate teams in and out of the facility to provide continuous presence 7 days a week, 10 hours a day for four months. Subsequently, AxisTech was rewarded with the following two additional sites – Volcano Creek and McLymont Creek. Through the entire installation process the AxisTech team adhered to the strict safety-first policies required in all industrial environments.
Site monitoring was a core strategy in the next stage of this multi-million dollar Forrest Kerr hydroelectric plant. The Teams wanted to ensure the surrounding areas and river were also equipped with a security and surveillance system complete with CCTV Cameras and real-time remote monitoring of the facility, grounds and river blockages. In-turn, AxisTech custom-designed and installed Forrest Kerr’s first technology-driven surveillance and monitoring system.
According to AltaGas.ca: “The project will capture the immense energy generated by the natural flow and elevation drop of the Iskut River to produce and deliver clean, renewable power to the grid at Bob Quinn Lake via BC Hydro’s proposed 287-kV Northwest Transmission Line (NTL).”
Alta Gas has three locations requiring large–scale communication infrastructure capabilities. The first site is Forrest Kerr, an impressive industrial environmental plant located on Iskut River approximately 1,000 km northwest of Vancouver; Forrest Kerr is a 195 megawatts run-of-river hydroelectric project. The second is Volcano Creek, located close to the Forrest Kerr facility; the Volcano Creek Project is a run-of-river hydroelectric facility with a targeted output of 16 megawatts. The third project is McLymont Creek, also nearby Forrest Kerr and Volcano Creek; McLymont is a run-of-river hydroelectric facility with a targeted output of 66 megawatts.

The group comprised of Project Managers, Estimator and Project coordinator who worked diligently to secure fibre optic cable and components during a time of worldwide shortages, in order to meet the project’s aggressive schedule.

The team provided design-assist, scheduling and coordination, safety management, material procurement and staging, dealing with and mitigating cost escalation.

AxisTech worked closely with management and stakeholders. The team planned and organize resources, managed risks, and monitored progress for on-time completion.

Throughout the installation, AxisTech worked closely with the client to ensure the project was deployed according to the client’s specifications and business operational needs.

AxisTech played a pivotal role in the project by involving the use of advanced techniques and equipment to deliver a high-quality, reliable solution.

The team installed fibre optic cables on overhead structures, poles and towers, to ensure reliable and high-speed connectivity between various components of the project.

For the safety and protection of fibre optic cables during installation, AxisTech employed the industry best practices including cable handling tools and protective covers.

AxisTech adhered to strict fire safety regulations during the installation of telecommunications infrastructure at Centerm to ensure the safety of personnel and property.

AxisTech ensured the proper labeling of fibre optic boxes and conducted fibre optic splicing to facilitate easy identification, maintenance and repair of the network.

AxisTech provided all fibre optic data communications backbone to support the terminal expansion, port infrastructure and access roads (entry and exit gates), VPA operations security, Railway transportation etc. The scope of work also included 100+ km of single-small mode fibre (smaller strand). Design-assist services were performed throughout project
An AxisTech associate also provided mega-pixel, outdoor-rated CCTV (closed-circuit television) cameras with PTZ (Pan/Tilt/Zoom), provide all connections into Centerm’s closed network for the internal security team, intercom, industrial PC (IPC) and touchscreens installations.

Columbia Basin Trust has achieved a significant milestone by expanding its broadband network in the South Country, adding 60 kilometers of high-speed fibre optic cable between Jaffray and Roosville. This infrastructure enhancement enables internet service providers to connect to the regional backbone, improving the quality of their connection and enhancing the services they offer to their customers. Furthermore, the Trust is nearing the completion of another expansion project in the Slocan Valley, spanning 125 kilometers and reaching just north of Nakusp.

AxisTech was the telecommunications infrastructure prime contractor and regulatory agent for 125km fibre installation, delivering aerial and underground blown fibre.

AxisTech’s RCDD provided continuous design-assist services for Columbia Basin’s fibre optics installation, ensuring efficient and effective placement of 72 strand singlemode fibre cables.

AxisTech provided a range of services for CBBC’s rural fibre optics installation, including trenching, directional drilling, aerial and tower installations, and regulatory agent and AHJ services.

AxisTech provided project oversight for CBBC’s main fibre optics backbone, ensuring that all installations complied with regulations and met safety standards, enabling seamless communication among communities.

AxisTech successfully installed aerial FOSC sealed enclosures in an outside plant network, providing efficient fibre optics management and high-speed internet to rural areas with challenging terrain.

AxisTech installed cabling systems and termination for the Fibre Optics Server Room and POP building for the CBBC project, ensuring reliable high-speed connectivity and rural internet services.

AxisTech delivered underground blown fibre in microduct for fibre optic installation, showcasing their expertise in advanced telecommunications infrastructure.

On March 2016; AxisTech commenced with the full deployment of their technical services to the Hamilton Transit Centre job site. With the pathways ready for installation, some of the key challenges to achieve a smooth completion were an aggressive schedule and evolving scope of work. As the move in date approached, additional requirements became increasingly more urgent and time sensitive.
The project foreman added the necessary resources and manpower required to ensure a steady flow of trades could work sequentially one after another. To streamline the installation and coordinate with the volume of tradespeople, a meticulous implementation system was incorporated to safeguard against downtime and in-turn maximize the skills of the workforce.
Axis Technical worked closely with the cabling manufacturer, Panduit, and the firm’s various local distribution companies. The ongoing challenges were to expedite product deliveries for AxisTech’s current base contract as well as the multitude of anticipated new scopes of work. The Panduit Category 6 Cabling System and the associated Fiber Optic components were well stocked locally for just-in-time-delivery. Their solid supported and quick turnaround time to job site, ensured the HTC integrated communications system was kept on-track.
Axis Technical worked closely with the cabling manufacturer, Panduit, and the firm’s various local distribution companies. The ongoing challenges were to expedite product deliveries for AxisTech’s current base contract as well as the multitude of anticipated new scopes of work. The Panduit Category 6 Cabling System and the associated Fibre Optic components, were well stocked locally for just-in-time-delivery. Their solid support and quick turnaround time to job site, ensured the HTC integrated communications system was kept on-track.
As new requirements arose, the teams worked with the HTC stakeholders and the engineering group to find the most cost efficient and effective solutions within the project timetable. The demanding new requirements included:

Further Cabling for New Specialty Systems
To continuously support all the client’s systems and position the facility for future growth opportunities; the teams needed to ensure the communication systems were flexible, scalable and manageable. Furthermore; the infrastructure also needed to be compliant with the current TIA/EIA standards.
Translink personnel worked very closely with the AxisTech project manager David Mayhew and found his input timely and on-point. The client’s team lauded the quality of the installation on several occasions, which instilled tremendous pride in the AxisTech team.
The project commenced at the new state-of-the-art operations & maintenance facility on Boundary Road, Richmond, BC. The centre services buses on the Richmond, New Westminster and South Vancouver routes.
Transit centres are strategic hubs for the local BC transit systems. They streamline the transit fleets mechanical operations and preserve the overall condition of the vehicles. Keeping buses on a safe schedule is critical to ensuring passengers arrive on-time.
Hamilton Transit Centre has the capacity for 300 forty-foot buses, including up to 80 community shuttle buses and 150 Compressed Natural Gas (CNG) fuelled buses.
HTC performs three core functions:
– Dispatch the Transit Fleet
– Fuel the Buses
– Provide Washing and Maintenance
The Hamilton Transit Centre Consists of Four Multi-purpose Buildings in a Campus Environment
– Main Operations and Dispatch
– Maintenance (Entire Bus Fleet)
– Fuel Building
– Wash and Waste Water Treatment
The Protec and AxisTech teams provided technology-forward fibre optic installations to all buildings as well as the cable backbone infrastructure which included (but not limited to):

– WIFI

Coast Mountain Bus Company’s Hamilton Transit Centre is located on a 7.3 hectare site at 4111 Boundary Road, Richmond, BC. Construction begun in 2013 and operations commenced in September 2016 replacing North Vancouver Transit Centre. It has capacity for 300 diesel, hybrid, and CNG variants. It is in charge of various routes servicing Richmond, New Westminster and South Vancouver.
The facility also allows for Translink to grow the fleet to approximately 2000 buses. With the closure of Oakridge Transit Centre, the facility now runs shuttle operations in Vancouver, Burnaby, and Richmond.
