Phowa Course In Nepal Mar 16th – 22nd, 2023

His Eminence Choje Ayang Rinpoche has been conducting Phowa courses all over the world for over four decades. Rinpoche had plans to teach Phowa in Nepal too when the Amitabha Temple was completed. Unfortunately, it could not happen as planned, due to the Nepal earthquake in 2015 that damaged the newly constructed Amitabha Temple in Kopan.

When the renovation of the temple was complete, the Covid-19 pandemic followed soon thereafter. This affected the whole world and travel and public gatherings were restricted.

However, to fulfill the longtime requests and the fervent wish of many local devotees of Vajrayana followers, Rinpoche has now decided to bestow both the Nyingma and Drikung Lineage Phowa teachings at the Amitabha Foundation Retreat Center, Kopan, Buddanilkantha Nagarpalika Ward-11, Kathmandu Nepal.

Please note that there are commitments to taking the Phowa course. These are usually 150,000 Long (100 Syllable) Vajrasattva mantras with visualisation, 100,000 Buddha Amitabha mantra with visualisation, plus obtaining a Buddha Amitabha statue or thangka as a support for one’s practice.

If Rinpoche offers the Introduction to the True Nature of the Mind, this will probably be after not before the Phowa course. However this has not been confirmed.

Yangdrup, is an extensive ritual to generate “Yang”, the powerful magnetizing properties associated with fortune and luck. Lamas, monks and nuns at the monastery will also do Guru Rinpoche offering prayers during the Yangdrup.

People who wish to dedicate prayers for their loved ones, including pets, living or dead, and would like to sponsor or donate towards tormas, butter lamps, tsog,  tea, meals, offerings for monks and nuns, or all other puja expenses, may send in their contributions through Amitabha Foundation in their own country or directly to the monastery’s account (see the information below). Dorje Phagmo (Vajravarahi / Vajrayogini)

A 5-day Puja (Prayer Ceremony) for Dorje Phagmo is being held September 9-13, 2019 at Ayang Rinpoche’s monastery in Bylakuppe. Dorje Phagmo (Skt. Vajravarahi) is a form of Vajrayogini. Vajrayogini is one of the main deities for self-visualization in Ngöndro (preliminary practices) and other generation stage meditations practiced by all the lineages in Vajrayana Buddhism.

The main guardian deity of the Drikung Kagyu lineage, Achi Chökyi Drolma, is an emanation of Vajrayogini.

Ayang Rinpoche said about Vajrayogini: “Among all the wisdom dakinis, Vajrayogini is the highest. She represents the True Nature of Mind, Prajnaparamita, the mother of all the Buddhas of the three times and ten directions.” (Sydney, March 2018)

Those who would like to make an auspicious connection with the Dorje Phagmo Puja may send their donations to the Drikung Charitable Society account. For a tax deductible donation in the U.S., please send your check to the Amitabha Foundation, P.O. Box 2572, Aptos, California 95001, or donate online below. You may send names for dedication to info@amitabhafoundation.us until September 10 at 5 PM Pacific time. Donations are welcome at any time.

Mandala of the 100 Peaceful and Wrathful Deities

From February 13-19, Ayang Rinpoche’s monastery in Bylakuppe, South India will hold the annual Shitro (100 Peaceful and Wrathful Deities) Puja to celebrate the first fifteen days of the new year, when the Buddha displayed miracles for his disciples to increase their devotion. During this time, it is believed that the effects of positive actions are multiplied ten million times.

Ayang Rinpoche said about the 100 Peaceful and Wrathful Deities practice:

“It is the essence of the 6,400,000 Dzogchen tantras, and merely hearing this teaching cuts through birth in the lower realms; merely understanding it causes one to travel to the ground of great bliss (mahasukha); bringing its meaning to mind causes one to accomplish the irreversible state of the spontaneously arisen awareness holder.  For everyone who connects with this teaching there will be great purpose and meaning.” (H.E. Ayang Rinpoche, 2009, Trans. Tyler Dewar).

The Shitro puja includes the Liberation for Dead Beings ceremony. Anyone who would like to make offerings and dedicate prayers to family members, friends, loved ones or pets who have passed, this is the best opportunity. Names must be received by February 17 at 5 pm (Pacific time) to be included in the prayer list for the Liberation Ceremony, but offerings are welcome at any time.

To make offerings, use the link below or send a check made out to Amitabha Foundation to P.O. Box 2572, Aptos, California 95001. Donations sent through the Amitabha Foundation are tax deductible in the US.
