I was reading an article where West Word was interviewing Dana Gould (Who I find hilarious) and they asked him he still does his podcast (the Dana Gould Hour) while now running/writing the show Stan Against Evil.

Here is what Dana said, "I cite the podcast as the things that literally made everything else possible. It keeps my name out there and connects my audience. I think the reason that I'm still allowed to work in clubs is because my podcast has nurtured and cultivated my fan base to the point that people show up. Because if people don't show up, you don't get hired.

And I think the podcast is very much responsible for that. The podcast averages about 100,000 downloads a month, and, you know, I think a lot of those people watched Stan Against Evil because I talked about it on the podcast. I think that's why Stan started out with such good numbers. It's like the nuclear rod that powers everything else." -

Cale Nelson produces and hosts the Ham Radio 360 podcast. He shared this story on Facebook. Last week, a listener contacted me via email. He is one of my Pateron Supporters. He said he noticed on my Pateron page the goal for buying a new Mixer. He went on to inquire about which mixer I was interested in. I sent him a note back telling him about the 12 ch Behringer mixer I had been saving for (which was the lowest cost mixer with Faders I could find on Amazon-I'm a FM Radio Throw-back and prefer faders).

In his subsequent email, he stated he wanted to purchase a Mixer for me-and he'd buy the Behringer if that is what I had to have, otherwise he preferred to buy me a Yamaha MG12. After picking myself up from the floor, and maybe or maybe not drying one or both of my eyes; I said the Yamaha would be a fine choice. I Got Too Many Customers

John Dennis started his podcast Smart Time Online. Little did he know that by putting his best advice into audio form, it would gain so much interest. He would get past gate keepers and end up getting contracts with BIG companies. The problem then became continuing his podcast. As John puts it, "Because of my podcast I had to quit my podcast to take care of my customers." It still brings him leads and potential customers even though he hasn't put out an episode in a while.

He is also the moderator of the Podcaster's hangout Facebook group (the largest Facebook Group Devoted to Podcasting)

Rick Sizemore's Audio Business Card Leads to More Exposure

Your podcast will help you land guests, and those guests can then point people to your website. Your website then becomes an audio business card that can capture people's attention. This is what the VR Workforce Studio Podcast Does. Here is a note from Rick Sizemore on how he got a big guest, who then got his podcast in front of a big audience. We are all excited here in Virginia because the NRA is holding their fall conference here in Richmond. No not the gun NRA but the National Rehabilitation Association. We have been working with noted Rehabilitation Professional, Sam Rothrock, who is going to be at the conference talking about how social media and particularly podcasting is becoming a powerful tool in workforce development and disability employment. He asked us where he could get some data on podcasting so we were quick to point him to the School of Podcasting Episode 452 with all those wonderful stats and the show notes filled with all the data we podcasters low to talk about. So while this is going on we got a call from Scott Dunnell with the Commission on Rehabilitation Counselor Certification which happens to be the worlds largest organization certifying rehabilitation professionals and counselors. We were able to get Scott on the VR workforce studio podcast alongside our Big Inspiration Showcase with Brian Evans. Brian, an executive with Bank of America, tells the story of his near death motorcycle accident, his recovery and returning to work at the bank through assistive technology and voc rehab. This gave Scott the perfect opportunity to reflect on an inspiring rehab counseling story and to discuss CRCC's launch of their new e university. CRCC posted the episode on their website and its getting lots of downloads from their membership, many of whom will be at NRA along with CRCC. So because of our podcast, many of the attendees will have heard about the VR Workforce Studio Podcast from a major conference exhibitor who will be just across the hall from a presentation where clips from our podcast will be part of the discussion on how podcasting can help people with disabilities, professionals and employers who are concerned with disability employment and vocational rehabilitation. So through one episode we have become involved in a major conference with attendees before they arrive will be part of promoting a major exhibitors products and support on of the key presentations. I Didn't Kill Myself and I Got a TV Show

I was listening to Kevin Smith's Keynote address at Podcast Movement 2016 and he shared the story about how his friend Bryan Johnson was ready to kill himself. Kevin told him to start a podcast, and even though he didn't really want to he did. It gave him purpose. That podcast made Bryan feel great as he got feedback from his audience. This podcast later turned into the TV Show Comic Book Men. Another story Kevin related was of his friend Jason Mewes who Kevin had cut out of his life due to him being addicted to Heroin. Kevin talked Jason into doing a podcast called "Jay and Silent Bob Get Old" and the first few episodes Jason shared about his addiction and the podcast was focused on keeping him sober. I Got a Job as a Guidance Counselor

From time to time I'm going to sneak in my own stories. So this one goes back years ago when I first was getting into education. I had a job interview with Chancellor University and when they saw I understood how to podcast that really peaked their interest and I got the job. The bad news is the school was in pretty bad shape and they kept restructuring. At one point they wanted to use me as a telemarketer (for admissions), and I bowed out of the company. Originally I wanted to make a podcast for students, but that never happened.

Major League Baseball Changed Their Contest Rules

This podcast was recorded partly at Podcast Movement a few years ago (2014?).

A few years ago Major League Baseball shut down a bunch of podcasts who were using logos illegally, using the name of the teams illegally, but one of them was NOT Corey Fineran. He had named his show Ivy Envy. It was a show about the Chicago cubs. Then one day he got a direct tweet from the official Chicago Cubs team. He thought the team was coming down to shut down his podcast.

So Corey called the front office, and they mentioned that hey had heard his podcast, and read his blog where he had criticized a certain contest the Cubs were running. The Cubs representative explained how it wasn't' a Cubs rule, but one from the Major League baseball. But because of Corey of the Ivy Envy podcast, the Cubs lawyers had taken Corey's points and gone to Major League Baseball, and in turn they changed the rules.

Your podcast can put you into a position of influence. You never know who is listening to your show. It just might be the head of a baseball team.

I had been podcasting for 10 years. My background is in training, and I've been helping people understand technology and software for over 20 years. The current director of podcasting for the New Media Expo had stepped down and they needed a new one. Behind the scenes, the man (Rick Calvert) that ran the New Media Expo approached Libsyn. Libsyn is a podcast media hosting and their VP of Podcast Relations knows everybody in the space. So when Rick asked Rob who he thought might be a good fit, Rob answered, "What do you think about Dave Jackson." Rick then went to Blubrry and spoke to their CEO and asked him for some names. Todd answered, "What do you think about Dave Jackson?". Rick then went to Spreaker and spoke with Rob Greenlee. What did Rob say? You guessed it, "What do you think about Dave Jackson?' How did these podcasting companies know me? Because they all listened to my podcast. The podcast positioned me as an expert. It allowed me to show I was competent, and it also allowed me to interview all of them in the past and start building a relationship. So why start a podcast? Be seen as an expert Establish relationships
