Sage PRO Series has been discontinued because it’s built upon Microsoft Visual Foxpro, which is a coding language that Microsoft announced they were discontinuing in 2009.
[/toggle] [toggle Title=”When was it officially discontinued?” color=”white”]Sage officially discontinued Sage PRO series in 2012.
[/toggle] [toggle Title=”I run ACCPAC. Does this affect me?” color=”gray”]Yes. Sage PRO Series was formerly known as ACCPAC. It is the same software as Sage PRO Series.
[/toggle] [toggle Title=”What does it mean for me?” color=”white”]In the near future, you will need to move to another ERP software. If you have made any customizations to Sage Pro, you’ll need to be especially careful moving to another product. Even if you have a SQL database, the program that does all the screens and reports is still Visual Foxpro, which is also discontinued.
[/toggle] [toggle Title=”Can I still get software updates?” color=”gray”]No. Part of the discontinuation means there are no more Sage PRO software releases, updates, or upgrades, including compatibility and security upgrades.
[/toggle] [toggle Title=”What will happen to my software?” color=”white”]If you’re running Sage PRO series it is becoming increasingly crucial that you move to a new software platform in the near future. Due to hardware and operating system advances soon Visual Foxpro (the platform Sage PRO runs on) will not run on new systems. Additionally, there are no updates available including security updates, which leave the system vulnerable.
[/toggle] [toggle Title=”How long will it take to move?” color=”gray”]Planning for a transition into another package typically takes 3-6 months.
[/toggle] [toggle Title=”Can I move to another Sage product?” color=”white”]Sage does offer other solutions, but there is no Data Migration package available to move your data to their new offerings. Additionally, Sage has a reputation for shutting down products they don’t find to be profitable enough for them. We are suggesting businesses look at software that is not related to Sage. There are MANY other solutions on the market to handle your special needs and requirements and customizations.

Quickbooks is a great choice for small businesses, but it can be easily outgrown. As an organizations transactions and customers increase, the Quickbooks platform slows down because the database has limited scalability. SAP Business One runs on the Microsoft SQL Server which is highly scalable. Software performance is not compromised by data growth and it has the potential for hundreds of users to be logged in and working simultaneously.
Quickbooks is a basic accounting package with limited modules and features. SAP Business One is industry leading ERP (Enterprise Resource Planning) package with robust built-in modules and features that mean businesses will not be able to easily outgrow this software.
Many growing companies find inventory to be the most limiting part of Quickbooks, which handles basic tracking and average costs only. One of SAP Business One’s greatest strengths is inventory management. SAP Business One’s hugely flexible inventory management module is a substantial reason people choose it over Quickbooks.
Quickbooks Enterprise package has a custom reporting tool but it’s limited and difficult to use for the average user. SAP Business One comes built-in with Crystal Reports, the industry leader in reporting. The Crystal Report wizard makes generating custom reports, charts, or dashboards easy.
Quickbooks offers a separate add-on solution for CRM (Customer Relationship Management) but it’s not integrated and has no drill-down capability. In SAP Business One, robust CRM is integrated into the entire system.
In Quickbooks every user will see the same screens and have access to the same information regardless of their role at the company. In SAP Business One, you can customize the workflow and access for each employee based on their login. This capability helps everyone work more efficiently and provides security for sensitive company information.
Quickbooks is not GAAP compliant, which means you can change the numbers any way you want without an audit trail. It leaves the business vulnerable to fraud. SAP Business One is GAAP compliant. The benefits of that include lower interest rates with banks and better credit lines with vendors.
SAP Business One has Microsoft Office integration which allows you to have a connection between SAP and Microsoft Outlook, Word, and Excel. You have the ability synchronize calendars, contacts and tasks. You can display, edit, and send quotations as e-mails. Quickbooks offers a synchronization tool but doesn’t integrate with Outlook in real-time.
Segmentation is useful for summary reporting and for organizing your general ledger to look like your organization and is expected by most CPA’s. Quickbooks offers no account number segmentation, while SAP Business One account numbers can have up to 10 segments.

]]>When it comes to entry-level accounting software, Quickbooks is highly-respected. In fact, it’s the world’s most popular entry-level accounting package with more than 4.5 million users.
It’s a great choice for small enterprises, but growing businesses will inevitably outgrow the limited features and database performance that Quickbooks offers. When this happens, it’s time to consider moving to a true ERP like SAP Business One.
