The first Level 1 Class taught The Tiger to release pent up Qi that when you have been stifling your feelings and holding back on expressing your beliefs.
When practiced you feel the release of inhibited Qi and a renewal of the natural flow resulting in a calm, balanced and strong YOU.
We also practiced bringing up the Earth’s Qi through the Lower, Middle and upper Dantian into heaven. And then bringing the Heaven’s Qi, through the upper, middle and lower Dantian
into the earth. This balances your Qi and restores the flow that connects us with nature and the world around us.
The first movement of Master Peng’s Four Golden Wheels is the Shaking and mobilization of Qi ‘like a child in a playground’. It clears the Qi field and gets your entire body moving.
And as we know from Physics, “A body in motion tends to stay in motion.”
Lower Dantian – from slightly below Navel extending down the feet into the Earth. The Vitality center of the body. Groundedness, in touch with reality, balanced and rooted.
Middle Dantian – The heart/lung center. Connectedness to others, self and the world around us. Hands and arms are the extension. Lao Gong, palm of the hand.
Upper Dantian – Wisdom and Intuition. the extension is the senses, eyes, ears, nose and mouth. Being aware of our surroundings and making proper decisions accordingly for YOU

]]>I have noticed that all of my neighbors that have practices, hobbies, or anything in their lives that are fulfilling in any way, are doing much better than those that have been traumatized and do not seem to have purpose to their lives.
It is for that reason that I am offering free classes on Thursday evenings from 6-7pm at the Fairview Library for the month of March. I want to help my community to improve their mental, emotional and physical health by teaching attendees so simple movements, and meditations that can be done as a daily practice in 10-15 minutes.
The class is open to all ages and fitness levels. Qigong is not a religion or organized spiritual practice. It is one of the components of Chinese Medicine that is practiced by people of all religions and beliefs all over the world. I call it the self-help aspect of Chinese Medicine. A few minutes of Qigong practice stimulates circulation of the lifeforce energy as well as the physical movement of blood, breath, lymph, and cerebral spinal fluid.
Qigong has been known to increase vitality and energy levels as well as improve balance. Physical balance as well as mental and emotional wellness and overall health are positively affected.
I also continue to offer my regular ongoing Tuesday morning classes 10-11am at Asia House, 119 Coxe Avenue downtown Asheville. This class is also open to all levels of students and the fee is still only $15 per class.
good qi to all

]]>The movements and meditations of Qigong create a flow of energy that moves this lifeforce to create a connection with your body, heart mind, and spirit to both the material nature in the Earth and the cosmic energies of the Heavens and limitless Universe.
The learning of any skill does not come from reading books about the subject, or watching videos, or attending lectures by even the most knowledgeable masters. The learning is an experiential feeling journey, so the process is quite personal. The benefits are easily experienced in even the first lesson. The pleasant sensations create a feelings of well-being,, relaxation and peace of mind as the Qi circulates. And it can improve physical health as well.
Diseases and physical, mental, or emotional problems, and stress, both mental and physical can, over a period of time manifest as chronic problems or illness. Western medicine can treat these symptoms with drugs, removal or replacing the problem organ, and various other techniques that can cure the problem in a relatively short period of time.
Chinese medicine such as acupuncture, herbal remedies, massage and qigong work by cultivating qi and increasing the flow throughout the body to create balance throughout the organs and systems thereby maintaining good health. This can take time and regular practice to heal the damage or form new patterns of behavior to improve the condition.
Qigong is a practice and knowledge of how it works unfortunately does not guarantee or improve the chances of success. There is an old story about a tourist in New York City who was lost and asked a friendly looking woman on the street: “How can I get to Carnegie Hall?” Her response was: “Practice.”
The good news is that each time you practice it actually feels good and that positive reinforcement makes it a fun and healthy addition to your life rather than another task and responsibility. Why not treat yourself well? As they tell all passengers before every flight, “Put on your own oxygen mask before helping others.”
And I want to announce a free weekly Qigong Class every Thursday at the Fairview Library 4:30-5:30pm during the month of January. For information email allen@ashevilleqigong.com.

]]>Since starting my group class on Fridays, I have been attracting new students who might have been told, by their friends, doctors or healers that they should study Qigong. But they are not quite sure what Qigong is.
Until the 1990s Qigong was a secret part of Chinese Medicine that was not taught to non-Chinese people. So, it has only recently been gaining the popularity of Yoga, Tai Chi and other forms of healthy exercise.
Qi (Chi) is the name of the life force energy that circulates throughout our body. It flows along pathways on ‘rivers’ called meridians. When these rivers are not flowing smoothly, we sometimes feel less than optimal. The flow of the energy might be weak. There may be something impeding this flow. An acupuncturist treats this imbalance using acupuncture needles at the site of the problem.
When you practice the smooth flowing movements of Qigong it enhances your energy flow and works like acupuncture without the needles.
Each simple movement of Qigong is repeated eight to ten times so it is quite easy to learn. Each exercise relaxes your muscles and decreases tension and you begin to feel as sense of relaxation, peace of mind and well being.
I know it may seem a bit different to you, but if you think about the way we have been taught about Western medicine, it is actually similar to what you already know. We all know that we have several circulations in our bodies. We have the blood circulatory system that is pumped by the heart. Air circulates while we inhale and exhale into our lungs, Lymph moves through our body by muscle contractions, etc. So, Qi flow is simply another natural circulation that we can improve with movement.

]]>The class is held at Dragon Phoenix, 51 North Merrimon Avenue, in Reynolds Village, Suite 109, every Saturday beginning on April 1. The time is 10:45-11:45am.
The space is beautiful, light and spacious. They have installed a ‘floating’ floor that is quite comfortable. And exercise mats are provided, so in addition to the basic standing work, we can also practice floor exercises. Chairs also available for seated work and those that need support or rest. The location is convenient and provides plenty of free parking. (directions are on the Dragon Phoenix Website – there is a Kung Fu and Tai Chi banner is in front)
The class is entitled Qigong/Dao Yin. Dao Yin translates to, Dao – guiding and Yin -leading (of Qi life force energy) and is the ancient Chinese name for what we now call Qi Gong.
I will be teaching poses, and forms to cultivate and enhance the flow of Qi. And I hope to provide the tools for students to practice on your own at home to enhance well being and increase your vitality.
Students can pre-register and pay by going to the Dragon Phoenix website. QiGong/Dao Yin is found in the Dro In section of the website and on the Schedule of Classes. I look forward to seeing you there.
