I’m in the category of super-fan, but this latest bald-face cash-grab has pushed me over the edge. I *might* pay for the French-language packages this season, but Rogers is getting as little of my money as possible. I paid last year, I’ve paid for many years of hockey, but between the lousy app (which frequently crashes, including last week during a crucial Jays game versus Cleveland, not to mention during the dang World Series last season), the filthy lucreness of it all, and the disrespect Rogers generally shows its customers, I’m as out on them as I’ll ever be.

A propos of nothing, anyone have an email address for Greg Sansone?

AM Radio is expensive to operate. Starting one from scratch is highly doubtful. And companies cannot make money from radio news. They have proven that.

CBC has a de facto digital-only radio station in Hamilton. The problem is they don’t have an FM frequency to put it on. And there isn’t much demand or budget for them to start a new AM station, even if one of those three frequencies was available, which they’re not.

If you’re with Bell or anyone else, those 4-5 games will cost you an extra $12.99 a month.

I hate being a hockey fan.

Previously, Bell sold 820 CHAM (Funny 820) and CKOC 1150 (Bloomberg).
Now both are music stations.
So Hamiltonians are left with no local news on the radio.
We are not Toronto.
We are half a million strong; where’s CBC?

All the above, and one more suspect — Corus. Saddled with a mix of smaller and larger market radio clusters, there was in the early 2010s a split. Smaller market clusters which could respond to local needs really well while also being creative and innovative were constantly undercut by the execs at Corus Quay that saw that thinking as a threat. Instead of taking what the small markets were doing that was successful and scaling up to the larger markets, corporate dumbed down by imposing the large market operations, content, and structure on the small markets. In doing so, they lost talent through cut backs and jumping before they were downsized. This eating their own mentality was pervasive during that time. It certainly didn’t help that ad revenue coming out of the Great Recession and higher operating costs gutted profits. Plus all the things you wrote about the Shaw Family, CRTC, Rogers, etc.
