Fozzie Bear, formerly known as Hodor has an amazing life. His story is a wonderful reminder that not every great adopter fits into a perfect mold, and as rescuers, we need to keep an open mind to different lifestyles and living situations.

Nik was definitely not a typical adopter. For work he travels the country consulting for organic farmers, spending a lot of time in his vehicle.

Nik's story:

"2 years ago I sold all my stuff, gave up my rental, bought and converted a van into a liveable space and started an organic consulting business in the gardening industry. It gets lonely out there driving for hours on end, and these last 2 months with Fozzie Bear have seriously been the best and most memorable with all the new people I've been meeting. But most importantly, everyone who meets Fozzie falls in love with him and convinces everyone how great the bully breed really is. I can't thank Angel City enough for putting us together and finding the best homes for the best dogs ... it really means a lot that you trusted me with Fozzie, and I'm totally the lucky one. "

Our Adoptions Coordinator spent a lot of time counseling Nik on adoption and wanted to place him with a great match. He needed a dog who could go anywhere and would also be an influential breed ambassador, since his dog would be meeting people everywhere he went.

Fozzie was the perfect match, and what a lucky dog he is. Fozzie now spends his days sightseeing across country, meeting new people and dogs. Every evening they seek out pet friendly establishments where he can sleep happily on the bed.

Nik and Fozzie have taught us that responsible dog ownership comes in various shapes and sizes. Though it's easy to judge, the "perfect adopter" may not always have a big house with an exquisite yard. Nik's living preferences have opened our eyes to the various possibilities of what makes a great match between an adopter and a dog, and we couldn't be happier for Nik and Fozzie!

Being an Angel City foster dog isn’t all “sits” and “downs”—our foster dogs get to have a lot of fun, too! We caught up with foster dog Gwennie after a fun morning in the Angeles National Forest to get her recap of the day.

When my foster mom told me we were going to the forest, this was my reaction: Oh my dog!

It was hard for me to wake up early (to be beautiful like me, one needs lots of beauty rest) but I trusted my foster mom when she said this would be worth it! I slept in the car the whole way there. We got our Adventure Pass and hit the trail.

As soon as we started, I realized we hit the jackpot—did you know how many good smells there are to sniff in the forest? I’ve never smelled anything like it! It was so much different from the neighborhood where I usually do my smells.

We got to the waterfall, which was just a trickle, but that meant I got to get really close! Cheese!

Then we rested for a minute to recharge for the trip back. I got up on this rock so that I’d be more on smooch-level.

On the way back, I saw some really cool forest squirrels. It was hard getting up the final hill at the end of the trail, but I made it and rested at this sign.

Because I was such a good girl, I got to go out for a hot dog after! That might have been my favorite part.

My foster mom said we hiked about 3 miles, which I think is quite enough for one day! I think I’ll spend the rest of the day sleeping. Next time, I told my foster mom, let’s just go out for hot dogs and skip the hike!

Angel City’s Steve and Sabrina are on Kombucha Dog Labels

We are so excited to announce that starting this Friday, October 10th, you can see Angel City foster dogs Steve and Sabrina on Kombucha Dog labels across Southern California.

Kombucha Dog is a Los Angeles based kombucha brewery, focused on making raw, undiluted, handcrafted kombucha with all organic ingredients. Even better, each Kombucha Dog bottle features a local, adoptable foster dog from various rescue organizations.

Kombucha Dog offered us the opportunity to do a photoshoot with our foster dogs, and we were all ears. When it was time for Kombucha Dog to shoot new labels, we told the dogs to get ready for their close ups and headed down to the KDog studios.

Sabrina will be the poster girl for the ginger flavor, which will hit stores Friday, October 10th.

Steve will be on the blueberry bottle, which is fitting since blueberries are his favorite healthy snack. You can find him in stores next Friday, October 17.

We’re excited to try them both!

A Day in the Life of Lindsey

What's it like being an Angel City foster dog? We put available foster dog Lindsey to work to show her adoring fans what she's up to during the day from her own perspective.

First stop: Runyon Canyon for a morning hike. Just up the street from Foster Mom's house, it has some of the coolest sniffs around. I love hanging out with my friends and getting my exercise.

Before I head back home, I get some snuggles in. Not to brag, but everyone says I'm an expert snuggler and give really good kisses.

Then it's back to my beloved crate to eat breakfast. After, I get some well-earned time to hang out and practice my good behavior in the house. Can a girl get some jerky with these ears?

But honestly, all these morning activities get me pretty sleepy.

After my nap, I like to hang out with my foster friends in the yard. I love a good play session! Here's me and my friend Gertie. We like to call ourselves "Gerdsey." "Lintie" just didn't sound as good.

Now I need a break from playing to lounge in the yard. You could say I have a flexible energy level. I like to do tons of stuff (I am only one year old, after all!), but I appreciate the finer points of relaxing, too!

Before dinner, I like to take a stroll around the neighborhood and pose with some of the local street art.

Now I'm tired! Someone tell my foster mom to turn off the lights!

The ASICS LA Marathon Goes to the Dogs!

IT'S OFFICIAL - the ASICS LA Marathon goes to the dogs! We are so pleased to announce that Angel City Pit Bulls has been selected as an official charity partner of the 2014 ASICS Los Angeles Marathon on March 9, 2014.

This is an amazing opportunity for us to spread the word about pit bulls as wonderful family members as well as our work to educate and advocate for humane treatment of dogs in our community. We have a great group of runners (and those who have never run before) already committed and we will be hosting training runs and other related activities over the next few months. This is a fantastic way to prepare for a marathon. You will have a support team (pit crews!) by your side to help you plan for and accomplish your goal.

ACPB Appears in this Season's Puppy Bowl

We couldn't be more proud of our little alumus Elias, now known as Carter, for making it into this year's Puppy Bowl, featured on television's Animal Planet.

Elias came our way via Long Beach along with his four siblings and momma, all of whom have been adopted since! Elias has what it takes to play in the Puppy Bowl, and were elated to find out he was chosen among the starting lineup to compete.

All of the puppies who play alongside Elias come from various rescue organizations across the country. We are so grateful to Animal Planet for giving us the opportunity to add the Angel City name to the many other worthy charities involved.

Fall is in the air … the leaves are crisp, kids are back to school, and the nights are growing longer. Happy houses warmed by fires smell of spice, holiday planning and family visits. Not far beyond the glow are the dark alleyways of the inner city, home to many stray animals. Unable to share in the indoor life of love, warmth and a family, they do all they can to fend for themselves and stay out of harm’s way.

One September night a few Samaritans happened to be driving down a darkened street in a rough part of town, and spotted a darling young pit bull running loose. Unable to look the other way, as so many must have done before, they stopped and began their search for the white-faced elusive beauty. Tried as they might, their efforts led to no fruition; solemnly, they committed to returning and continuing their efforts to find her.

Their stakeout took more time than they had expected - a few weeks, in fact - but, they never gave up. Finally one night, they spotted her, just as she had spotted them – and at last, the success of their mission was realized. Without hesitation, the dog jumped right into their car, seemingly aware that wherever the ride would take her would be far better than where she had been.

It didn't take long for her personality to come shining through to her rescuers ... befittingly, they named her "Sweetie". Her path continued to wind its way into the world of Angel City Pit Bulls, where she was paired with a foster family, her new life underway. She now had a loving foster mother, two canine siblings, and even a feline one as well. Hiking trips, custom-made outfits, and new friends everywhere she went ... life was just getting better and better every single day.

The most epic journeys in life rarely transpire without a few bumps in the road, and Sweetie's path was no exception. Shortly after her new chapter had opened, it was discovered that Sweetie had chronic renal failure as a result of Renal Dysplasia, a congenital condition that would require diligent management for the rest of what would be her shortened life. Amidst the devastation of her ailment, everyone watched in awe and amazement at how Sweetie’s spirit relentlessly emerged - she continued to teach us every day how to live life in the moment and appreciate all that we have.

This bump in her path was a big one, but it didn't get in the way of Sweetie finding her forever home. Soon after the news of her diagnosis, it was clear that her search for a home had already been completed – she was right where she belonged, with her foster siblings and a mom who would do anything for her. Almost as though Santa had come right down the chimney to deliver the news himself, her greatest wish came true – she had a family of her very own.

The holidays were jam-packed with tidings of comfort and joy for Sweetie – countless visits from friends and admirers, home-cooked meals, presents and adventures galore. Hiking in Runyon Canyon, the Hollywood Hills or around Griffith Park would have very likely led your path to cross with hers, as these quickly became her favorite haunts. On a beautiful California winter day with the sun high in the sky, Sweetie got to make a trip to the beach, seeing the ocean for likely the first time. There were no moments to be had where Sweetie did not savor them to the utmost – chronicled in the myriad pictures and videos capturing her every ecstatic adventure and discovery.

If there ever was a testament to living in the moment, it was Sweetie and her unstoppable zest for life and all it had to offer; in its own bittersweet way, this proved to be more than your average blessing as her health continued to steadily decline. Good days were intermingled with tough moments, and when the latter outweighed the former, Sweetie let her mom know it was time to let go. In the eloquent pen of Fiona Apple, when speaking about her own dog ... the time came where Sweetie was ready to stop being a dog, and instead, become a part of everything.

And that is what she is now … she is the wind, she is the snow, she is the sun on our cheeks and the stars in the sky. She is the fragrant flower, a tender bloom rooted firmly within all of our hearts. She is the teacher of how to treasure all things precious and the importance of not wasting a single moment on regret or despair. Much more than that, also, she leaves us all a bit changed. You see, there are many dogs out there just like Sweetie, living their lives on the street. She taught us to not look the other way.

The compassionate example that was set by her rescuers and the village that surrounded her serves as the most fitting legacy, to inspire us to do what we can to make the world a better place - not only for the many dogs just like her, but for the humans who love them and benefit from their unique brand of wisdom. Her doting and devoted adopter made a beautiful tribute video honoring her, sharing her spirit and zest for life with all of us. May Sweetie's story plant a seed, in each of our hearts - to nurture our community together, to do what is right, and to never find ourselves looking the other way.
