Packed up with exclusive covers for some recent releases, Limited Run Games will be heading to SDCC next week.

Limited offerings

A mainstay at Comic Con, and staple in the “forever physical” space, Limited Run Games is coming back to the big San Diego event. That, of course, will take place from July 23rd to the 26th (2026). And from the sound of it, the company will be loading up some unique opportunities for fans.

Detailed today, LRG will have a trio of games with exclusive covers on hand, all of them pretty recent. Those include The MARVEL MaXimum Collection, CAPCOM Arcade Stadium Vol. 1, and JAWS: Retro Edition. While those games are already out, the covers they’ll bear are decidedly not available anywhere else but the Con.

All three of these exclusives will see release for the Switch, though The MARVEL MaXimum Collection will double dip. Fans can expect to find that one available for PS5 as well.

  • MARVEL MaXimum Collection – SDCC 2026 Exclusive – with redesigned artwork created exclusively for this event.
  • CAPCOM Arcade Stadium Vol. 1 – SDCC 2026 Exclusive with Foil Cover – featuring a gleaming, metallic cover that can’t be found anywhere else.
  • JAWS: Retro Edition – SDCC 2026 Exclusive – with fresh new cover art only on sale at San Diego Comic Con.
Limited Run Games press release

While those are the big items that’ll be on hand just for SDCC, there’s more. Limited Run Games is looking to have a pretty big presence on the show floor, and that booth (#536) will be loaded for bear. Fans of the company, and physical media in general, will find a bevy of additional games available for purchase.

Some of those look to be other recent releases, like Ren & Stimpy: Happy Happy Joy Joy, Jedi Power Battles, and High on Life 2. If you’re looking to pick up some longer-lived games though, there’ll be a few of those as well. Look for Castlevania Dominus Collection, DOOM + DOOM II, and more to be in stock for Comic Con’s kickoff.

Here’s the full catalogue of what LRG will have on hand:

  • Fighting Force Collection (with Special Cover!)
  • Nickelodeon Splat Pack
  • Scott Pilgrim EX
  • Hi-Fi Rush
  • Dungeons & Dragons Neverwinter Nights 2: Enhanced Edition
  • High on Life 2
  • Mortal Kombat
  • Castlevania Dominus Collection
  • DOOM + DOOM II
  • GEX Trilogy
  • Jedi Power Battles
  • Star Ocean
  • Yakuza Kiwami
  • Ren & Stimpy: Happy Happy Joy Joy
  • Shantae Advance Risky Revolution
  • Earthion

River City Girls fans take note

In addition to the above, LRG is planning on having an in-booth event for fans to check out. That would be a signing, by one Adam Tierney. And if you’re a fan of the side-scrolling beat ’em up that is River City Girls, that name should ring a bell.

Tierney is Game Director at WayForward, and actually created the aforementioned title. And with River City Girls being a fan-favorite, we’d imagine there might be more than a few show-goers who might want to grab a signature. As mentioned, those will be taking place right in the Limited Run Games booth (#536). But even though he’s famous for gaming, Tierney won’t be signing any actual video games.

Instead, the special guest will be adding his autograph to comics. And really, that’s kind of fitting, considering the event. As for what that book would be, fans can look for an exclusive River City Girls comic. The happening will kick off on July 25th, and take place between 12:30pm PDT and 1:30pm PDT.

Some big name activations are on tap for Comic Con later this month, from HBO Max. Fans can look for Lanterns, House of the Dragon, and more.

Lanterns lights the Gaslamp

We all know that, as goes San Diego Comic Con, the convention center itself is just part of the action. While it’s the hotbed for sure, the surrounding Gaslamp Quarter is a party unto itself. Every year, the whole of the Gaslamp plays home to multiple events, showcases, and activations. There are usually big names behind those too, and this year looks to be right in line.

HBO Max will be arriving in the Quarter with a pretty big footprint, and a number of special happenings. Those cover a trio of properties, starting with the brand new Stuart Fails to Save The Universe. If you’re unfamiliar with that, it’s the newest Big Bang Theory spinoff, set in the Pasadena comics shop from the original sitcom. A panel will be on tap as well, which will be at 2:25pm on Thursday, July 23rd. Look for that in the convention center’s famed Hall H.

Next up is Lanterns, the first television show based on DC Comics’ iconic Green Lantern. The TV show will star both Hal Jordan and John Stewart, and will figure into Comic Con with a “Lanterns Training Headquarters”, where fans can actually get a GL ring for themselves. Well, that and buy some merch. It’s also in addition to a panel, which will be in Hall H, on July 24th at 1:30pm. While we’re on the subject too, HBO Max says that fans who’d like to attend the Lanterns event should signup online ahead of time. Just something to keep in mind.

Rounding things out? That’d be House of the Dragon, as the Game of Thrones prequel series rolls back into town. There won’t be any activation in the Gaslamp for this one, but fantasy fans can watch for a “advance fan screening of Season 3, Episode 6”. Those who are attending the convention will find that happening on Saturday the 25th, at 10pm, in Room 6DE.

Want more info on any of the above? Check out the official rundown below.

Publisher IDW is preparing for the big October show, as a slate of NYCC exclusives and more have been revealed today.

Turtles in the city

The Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles featuring in a panel presentation seems only right. This is NYCC that we’re talking about, and the mean green teens do call the city’s sewers their home.

IDW will have that iconic property on tap too, along with a collection of variants at the booth. Before we get to the latter though, let’s talk Turtles. October 10th will be the date, for the TMNT: What’s Next for the Heroes in a Half-Shell? panel.

That showcase will be hosted by ComicPop’s Sal Crivelli, and it sounds like it’ll be digging deep into IDW’s Turtle-verse. Also, you should probably expect there to be plenty of potential spoilers discussed. The title kind of gives that away. As for the where’s and when’s, fans can look for the show in Room 1C03 at the Javits convention center, starting at 5:15pm (EST).

Moderated by Sal Crivelli of the popular YouTube channel ComicPop, this packed panel will spill all the secrets behind IDW’s best-selling line of TMNT comic books. From the upcoming run by multiple Eisner-winning writer Gene Luen Yang and blockbuster artist Freddie E. Williams II to the fan-favorite multiverse event TMNT: BATTLE NEXUS, fans in attendance will be the first ones to feast their eyes on new artwork, announcements, and so much more.

A booth of exclusives

Along with what you see above, there’s all those exclusives that we mentioned too. Naturally, those will be found at the IDW booth, which will return for 2025’s event. For those who didn’t attend last year, the publisher was absent, but will be roaring back with what IDW VP of Marketing Aub Driver is calling the company’s biggest presence yet.

“As someone who grew up on the East Coast and lived, worked, and studied in New York, returning to NYCC always feels like coming home,” said Aub Driver, VP of Marketing at IDW Publishing. “The fans at this show are unmatched in their passion and energy. We took last year off the floor, which only made us hungrier to come back in full force. This year, we’re bringing our biggest presence yet—with an all-star TMNT panel, an incredible booth, and exclusives fans are going to go wild for.”

IDW press release

And on that last note, we’ve got a hearty look at the exclusives that the company will have stocked for purchase. They’ll run the gamut from Star Trek, to TMNT spinoffs. But it won’t be all big properties, as some great-sounding additional titles will be there too with Event Horizon: Dark Descent, and Return to Sleepy Hollow.

Get an early look at them in the gallery below.

  • STAR TREK: THE LAST STARSHIP #1 NYCC exclusive variant by Sean Von Gorman
  • STAR TREK: VOYAGER – HOMECOMING #1 NYCC exclusive photo variant
  • STAR TREK: STRANGE NEW WORLDS – THE SEEDS OF SALVATION #1 NYCC exclusive variant by Gregory Maldonado, Anthony Fowler Jr. & Charlie Kirchoff

It’s PAC-MAN’s 45th, and fans will be able to celebrate in style at this year’s SDCC, with a visit to a special popup cafe.

Wakka-wakka-wakka

Are you in San Diego this week for Comic Con? If so, you might find yourself getting hungry while navigating the maze of the convention center’s aisles and street-level events surrounding the show. Fortunately, in such an eventuality, there’s the PAC-MAN Pop-Up Cafe.

More than just a popup eatery, the PAC-MAN Café will be a “retro-meets-modern gaming hub”, loaded with photo-ops and arcade games. There’ll even be some exclusive giveaways, so you might walkaway with more than just a “Team Ghosts Cake Pop”. But don’t worry, that’s all in addition to a pretty sharp looking menu of food and drink to buy.

The PAC-MAN Café will be open to the public for the duration of the Con, starting today, July 24th and running until the 27th. You’ll be able to find it at 323 Seventh Ave 23 Seventh Ave, in San Diego, though you won’t have to make your own way there, if you don’t want to.

That’s because PAC-MAN–wrapped vehicles will be on the move as part of a promotion with the Flywheel app during the Con. And if you do book a ride to the PAC-MAN Café, you’ll be in for “a free PAC-MAN 45th Anniversary sticker sheet and a promo code for a free slushie at the PAC-MAN Café”, according to the press release.

The big Con isn’t too far off now, and Bandai Namco is getting what looks to be an impressive footprint setup, with a series of booths and panels.

*Godzilla roar

If you’re a big fan of the King of the Monsters, then you probably already know that it’s Godzilla’s 70th anniversary year. The big beast originally debuted in Japanese cinemas back in 1954 with is landmark first appearance, and has been going strong ever since.

To celebrate, Bandai Namco is about to bring the big beast to the biggest Con on the calendar. Naturally, we’re talking about this year’s SDCC, which will play host to a bevy of Godzilla goodies and happenings, courtesy of the toy and game giant.

But that’s just the half of what’s planned by Bandai Namco, because as you can see above, there’s another big birthday to cheer. That would be Mobile Suit Gundam Wing‘s, as the high-tech, sci-fi anime turns three decades old this year, so you can expect to see a fair shake there as well, with both a terrific-sounding booth experience, and a panel to check out.

Add in a panel and shared booth (with Godzilla) for Tamagotchi, and Tamashii Nations’ presence, and you’ve got quite a con for the company.

The über creepy Little Nightmares series of games is coming to comics, with a special sneak preview stalking NYCC.

Unsettling

If you’re a fan of horror games, then you might’ve played a little series called Little Nightmares. Bandai Namco’s games have been some of the most genuinely freaky titles to see release, and have caught on big time with players, spawning a third installment set for release some time next year.

The series showcases a dark and twisted universe where the nightmares and fears of vanished children become real. But those terrors won’t be constrained to gaming for that much longer, as Titan Comics has revealed that the property is coming to the printed page.

“It’s been an incredible journey to distill Little Nightmares into the comic medium; Lonnie and Dennis have packed each panel with depth and deeper meaning, for a twisting mystery that’ll leave you haunted and yearning for the next issue.” says Phoebe Hedges, Titan Comics Editor.

Titan Comics press release

Little Nightmares: Descent to Nowhere #1 will deliver the first installment of what will be a four-issue mini-series. The book will hail from The Sickness and Cable writer Lonnie Nadler, who genre fans may also know from the Little Nightmares podcast The Sounds of Nightmares, along with artist Dennis Menheere. Fans can look for a graphic novel to bundle all four of those issues once the series concludes as well, but they won’t have to wait til next year to get a taste of the series’ terror.

Titan Comics has announced a special preview that will be available at NYCC this week (October 17th-20th), at Bandai Namco’s booth (# 2319). What’ll actually be included in that sneak peek is still a mystery, but if you’re a fan who’s going to be at the convention, then stopping by and checking it out may very well be worth your time.

Opening its doors next month, NYCC 2024 is set to deliver what sounds like a cool collection of panel presentations.

Stay tuned

The leaves are starting to fall, the weather is getting (a little) cooler, and it’s once again NYCC season. The New York show at the Javits Convention Center has grown significantly over the years, and even with a little bit of an apparent contraction since the pandemic, it’s still easily a beast of a convention and one of the biggest on the calendar.

As usual, 2024’s event will see a series of happenings in addition to its dealer floor, with what looks to be an impressive schedule. BG has already reported on DC and Marvel Comics’ listings, but the NYCC has a spotlight list of panels too, and that’s just been released. It looks like these might be a darn good time as well, featuring everything from a retrospective on House of the Dragon to a chat with the cast of Starship Troopers. How’s that for timely?

Before you scroll down to check it out though, be aware that NYCC has also released a few other tidbits. For one thing, we’ve got the complete exhibitor list, which you can find here. That includes the likes of “ThrillJoy, Funko, Marvel, Scholastic, Penguin Random House, Bandai, CapCom, Webtoon, Crunchyroll, and more”. And finally, we’ve also got the Artist Alley and Writers Block lineups. Hit those links if you’d like to check them out and plan your con.

A DC Comics ‘Wayne’ who’s not Batman? That’d be Bob Wayne, who took part in a panel discussion at SDCC to chat about his career.

From stately Comic Con

How long have you been a DC Comics fan? If you have any kind of depth of history behind you, then chances are you know Bob Wayne, even if you’re not familiar with the name. That’s because Wayne spent almost 30 years at DC, as its head of sales & marketing, before moving on about a decade ago.

As such, he’s got some tales, so it’s a good thing that friend and Forbidden Planet TV’s Andrew Sumner was there at Comic Con International. There the two engaged in a chat about Wayne’s life and times, along with guests like William Schanes, David Siegel, Fletcher Chu-Fong, and Stuart Shreck. The talk also included Wayne’s memories of comics luminaries that he met along the way, like former DC president Paul Levitz, and icons Will Eisner and Steve Ditko.

At almost an hour long, it should give you a good feel for what a Comic Con panel is like too. So if you’ve never sat through one, grab a snack and enjoy.

Did you dig it? If so, stay tuned, because Forbidden Planet TV is promising more panels from the biggest Con on the calendar in the future.

DC Comics hit the ground running today, with the star-studded and multi-media-centric annual  “Jim Lee & Friends” panel.

Now that’s a logo

Okay, so this was kind of a side-note to today’s  “Jim Lee & Friends” panel at the San Diego Comic Con International, but it’s one that we can’t help but be excited for. And yes, we’re talking about the return of the iconic “DC Milton Glaser” logo.

Legions of fans grew up with that logo, throughout the 80s and 90s, and now it’s back in all its blue and white glory. It’s not just for the movies either, because while DC Studios will brandish the mark on the silver screen, it’s also destined for the cover of all of DC’s comic book slate. How great is that?

Jim Lee and James Gunn ended the panel with a surprise, revealing that the powerful and iconic DC Milton Glaser logo will return to a place of prominence at DC. Gunn revealed the DC Studios logo and stated, “Peter (Safran) and I knew we needed one logo that would bring us all together. We knew it needed to be something that was immediately recognizable, something that honored the comics, the legendary writers and artists who inspired everything we do – including our own Jim Lee – not to mention the generations of passionate and extraordinary DC fans.”

Lee revealed that, “bringing this powerful, iconic mark back into the world—back to its rightful place of prominence, on the front covers of everything DC” and that fans would start seeing the logo on comics this October.

On to the show

Now that we’ve gotten a little fanboy-ism out of the way, let’s talk turkey. The panel today was loaded with talent, welcoming in the likes of “Scott Snyder and Joshua Williamson, Tom King, Jeph Loeb, the writer, actor, and Count Crowley creator David Dastmalchian, along with DC Studios CEO, co-chairman and filmmaker James Gunn”.

And while comics were most definitely discussed, complete with some fresh news included, we got a healthy dose of DC television news as well. That came in the form of Creature Commandos, a DC action/horror series that’s set to run for 7 episodes this December on Max.

The show will follow what’s essentially a monster version of the Suicide Squad, which has been officially disbanded by the US government when the show debuts. If you’re thinking that Amanda Waller might be left out though, think again, as she’s in command of this action packed freak-show, and has brought Rick Flag Sr. with her. Yes, “senior”, remember his son was killed in the second Suicide Squad film.

Check out the first look:

Dropping in from the Atlanta set of his much-anticipated next film Superman, Gunn conveyed his excitement about the new adult animated series Creature Commandos, coming to Max this December from DC Studios and Warner Bros. Animation. The seven-episode series, co-produced by DC Studios and Warner Bros. Animation, tracks a secret team of incarcerated monsters recruited for missions deemed too dangerous for humans. When all else fails…they’re your last, worst option. Headlining the new show is a star-studded cast that includes Steve Agee as Economos, Maria Bakalova as Princess Ilana, Anya Chalotra as Circe, Zoe Chao as Nina Mazursky, Frank Grillo as Rick Flag Sr., Sean Gunn as GI Robot & Weasel, David Harbour as Frankenstein, Alan Tudyk as Dr. Phosphorus, Indira Varma as The Bride, and Viola Davis as Amanda Waller.

From TV to page

Zipping from movies and TV to comics, the panel dug into a few assorted announcements pertaining to DC’s original form-factor. Those included the return of Creature Commandos to the printed page, news about publishing initiative All In, and the Absolute line. Creature Commandos got its start way back in DC’s Weird War Tales #93, and will be bursting loose from its TV home for a six issue mini-series set to kick off this October. Solid timing.

Much like the show, the upcoming comic will feature a “cast of misfits on the team of monsters, ghouls and weirdos”. Writer David Dastmalchian did the honors, talking up the title, which will officially be dubbed DC Horror Presents: Creature Commandos. He’ll be joined by artist Jesús Hervás, who’ll be bringing fans both action, and presumably some spills ‘n’ chills. Look for issue #1 on the stands this October the 2nd.

ALL IN

Following up on the Creature Commandos onslaught, Scott Snyder, Joshua Williamson, and Tom King were all in to talk about… ALL IN. If you don’t know what that is, it’s DC Comics’ latest push, which will be kicking off, line wide, this fall.

It’ll all begin with the one-shot DC All In Special #1, which will be hitting stores the first week of October (busy month). From there, fans will find all new storylines beginning in “DC’s core comic book titles” like Wonder Woman and Superman. King will be helming the former, while Williamson will take up the writing chores on the latter. So where’s that leave Snyder? Well, on Batman of course. Oh, but not the Batman you’re thinking of.

Snyder will be leaving the DCU proper, for the new Absolute universe, which seems to essentially be an Elseworlds brand. Also a part of ALL IN, Absolute Batman will be joined by Absolute Superman and Absolute Wonder Woman at some point, and a surprise fourth title in 2025 with Absolute Green Lantern.

Revealed at the panel, Absolute Green Lantern will feature the talents of writer Al Ewing and artist Jahnoy Lindsay. Just don’t ask which Lantern(s) will be starring, as we have no idea. Lee wasn’t spilling the beans on that just yet, though we do know the title will debut in March (2025).

So all in all, it was a pretty big time panel that came complete with a few Batman: The Long Halloween – Last Halloween covers to boot. But even so, it was also probably the relative calm before the storm. Remember, DC likely has a packed few years coming up, with movies and TV galore as James Gunn and Peter Safran begin the all-new DCU. If you’re a fan, there could be some very exciting times on the horizon.
