It was a blast having Brooks Williams visit the Auden showroom recently. He came to pick up his new Auden Chester and while he was with us he grabbed some acoustics off the wall and gave us some incredible performances of songs from his 30-year career.
US-born, UK-based Auden Artist, Brooks Williams is listed in the TOP 100 Acoustic Guitarists and has been releasing music for over three decades. His tasteful roots music seamlessly incorporates folk, blues and country and wraps around his rich lyrical narratives.

When we were made aware of a parcel of stunning 5A exhibition grade flame maple we knew we could do something very special with it.
Converting it into back and sides and pairing it with AAA grade spruce tops and striking flame mahogany necks, the Auden Maple Series guitars are as beautiful to look at as they are to play. The maple back and sides give a loud, clear note with the spruce soundboard adding a crisp, clear top end.
The Maple Series comes in three body shapes – the Grace (Jumbo), Chester (000) and now the Emily Rose (Parlour).
Available as a full acoustic or fitted with the Brad Clark SuperNatural pick up.

]]>Auden Guitars have announced the acquisition of the Gordon Smith guitar company.
With their brand new 3,000 sq ft workshop, Auden Guitars have the space and capability to ensure that all new Gordon Smith solid-bodied and semi-acoustic electric guitars are built with handpicked tonewoods and high-quality hardware, whilst retaining the cosmetic personality and sonic characteristics of these legendary models within the GSG range, including the iconic GS1, Gypsy and Gemini.
Established in the early 1970s, Gordon Smith Guitars is one of the longest-running contemporary guitar makers in England. When previous owners, John and Linda Smith, decided to retire, the question was, who would continue with the company’s longstanding legacy?
“I’m delighted with this move”, Auden Guitars’ managing director Doug Sparkes comments,
“Gordon Smith Guitars will continue to have a stand-alone identity within the Auden family, and they will continue to be 100% handcrafted in the UK. Auden has quickly established a reputation for great build quality and for using the best materials available – this ethos extends to Gordon Smith Guitars as well. Our team of highly skilled luthiers will focus on construction, tone and playability across the range of traditional body shapes that an army of Gordon Smith fans still adore.
It’s thanks to so many loyal Gordon Smith players that these guitars have survived decades of fashions and trends within the music industry. Gordon Smith guitars are adaptable to any musical genre and our challenge now is to protect the values of the brand whilst attracting the next generation of Gordon Smith players.
Whilst maintaining a strong direct relationship with players and owners, our plan is to build relationships with a handful of key retailers across the UK, where custom guitars can be specified alongside a stock range of Gordon Smith Guitars.”
John Smith comments, “We are now well into the hand-over period, and working in detail with Auden and their team of luthiers to acquaint them with the GSG processes. I’m feeling good, its ducks to water as they say.
I’m sure that GSG – the second generation to paraphrase, won’t just be something….. …..it’ll be something else!”

]]>…the Marlow is a charming, lively and engaging little parlour that lives for snappy riffs, delicate fingerstyle passages and smokey blues licks. It’s addictive beyond description and a complete joy to play. Then you have the Edgar – a true gentle giant with a hulking frame but a versatile, sonorous voice that is enthrallingly beautiful with the potential to change your guitar playing forever. There’s nothing quite like playing a good baritone and if you’re tempted then you really ought to give the Edgar a try.
Earlier in the year, Dave Foster reviewed the Chester Cutaway on his blog Gear Acquisition Syndrome. Dave was equally impressed in his review,
…the gorgeous Indian rosewood back and sides give the guitar an unusually extended sonic spectrum both in the lows and the highs, more so that I’m used to from Mahogany or the walnut on my Taylor and the spruce top gives it a top end sparkle which sounds truly fantastic in conjunction with the Indian rosewood. The whole guitar has a resonant vibe to it that escapes so many other acoustic guitars.
Our dealer network is growing all the time, should you wish to try an Auden or pop in to Auden HQ in Higham Ferrers to try the whole range. Call first though on 01933 391234 so we can make sure everything is perfect for your visit.
Where possible we’ve collected reviews of our guitars and publish them here on the site in the media section which you can download and read later.

]]>The weekend promises to cover a wide spectrum of styles including acoustic blues, country, folk and jazz.
For questions or enquiries, please contact our team on 01933 391234 or email office@audenguitars.com
Auden founder Doug Sparkes commented “Auden guitars have got into the hands of some incredibly talented people over the last 12 months and this weekend is an opportunity to showcase this talent and demonstrate to other musicians the great results that are possible with an Auden guitar.
We know that there a lot of Auden owners in the North of the UK that may find it hard to get to this event so we are looking at repeating it later in the year somewhere around the Scottish Borders.”
