Ubuntu Management Component Pack for ProLiant Released (v9.25)

In support of our growing partnership with Canonical, HP is pleased to announce the release of the latest Management Component Pack for Ubuntu on HP ProLiant servers. This release (v9.25) includes new versions of agent management software which let you control and monitor HP-specific hardware components. You can configure your HP SmartArray online, monitor your hardware health with the HP System Management Homepage, or setup snmp traps for interesting events. The Management Component Pack is an essential group of utilities to help you manage Linux on your HP ProLiant servers.

To download and install these packages, simply point apt at the HP Software Delivery Repository (SDR):

Add this line to /etc/apt/sources.list:

http://downloads.linux.hp.com/SDR/downloads/MCP/ubuntu

then apt-get install the components you'd like to use:

The Management Component Pack for Ubuntu has been released as version 9.10.
These should work on Debian as well, but we're not making an official
Debian release until we can qualify Squeeze on Gen8 ProLiants.

The Ubuntu 12.04 MCP may be accessed via apt, by putting the following
line in /etc/apt/sources.list:

deb http://downloads.linux.hp.com/SDR/downloads/MCP/ubuntu precise/current non-free

Similarly, you may browse these debs directly at the HP Software Delivery Repository
(SDR) at:

http://downloads.linux.hp.com/SDR/downloads/MCP/ubuntu/pool/non-free/

Ubuntu 12.04 (Precise Pangolin) LTS Server to be Certified, Supported on HP ProLiant Systems

Having just installed Precise on my HP workstation, I was excited to see the finalization of full support for Ubuntu on ProLiant! HP and Canonical have removed the nebulous "will it work?" question when choosing unencumbered operating systems on HP hardware. Us HP employees are also HP customers, I know I've wanted to see this support for a long time (as an hp hardware and Linux consumer in various divisions in HP). In the past, we've had to go with expensive alternatives in order to satisfy the real or perceived "neck to choke" requirement. Choice == good.

It's really rather painless to do, and even works from a LiveCD so that you don't have to install anything.

To submit the results, you'll need to have a Launchpad account.

P.S I've also asked some Canonical folks to see if a server-centric query program and site be made available as well, so will keep you informed as to that status, too

Real-Time Linux support survey

Real time extensions to Linux kernels are being adopted by customers to provide more deterministic responsiveness to real world events, such as high frequency trading at Financial Services companies or radar processing in military systems. HP works with both Red Hat and SUSE on Real-Time Linux certifications but more resources are required if we are to certify more servers sooner and proactively rather than in response to specific deals. In order to properly size the market please take a moment to complete this quick 7 question survey which will help us determine the need and funding required for delivering certification support for Real-Time Linux.

Noticed this in some LoCo forums ... may be of interest for users here to contribute

When your interaction with other Ubuntu users is entirely made up of developers talking about bugs they need to fix and users seeking support (IRC, forums, bug reports), your perspective changes. It's hard to get a good idea of the big picture. What portion of users are hitting problems in what areas? How do users who've reported bugs
feel about the experience? How are the local community teams doing? That kind of stuff is hard to wrap your head around without metrics.

To that end, a bunch of members of the Ubuntu community have worked together to create a survey that'll help those of us working on various parts of Ubuntu understand where we need to improve and how we can do better.
