We’re being inundated with Republicans, from Donald Trump down, on the need to build more data centers; opposition is Chinese propaganda, our concerns are unfounded, the fiscal benefits to communities are obvious, and we’re to believe them.

An NBC News Decision Desk Poll powered by SurveyMonkey, conducted from Aug. 20 through Sept. 1, found that 69% of respondents oppose the construction of AI data centers in their local area, with 45% saying they “strongly oppose” the idea.
NBC News, 9/6/26

A couple weeks ago on social media, we noted President Trump’s push for data centers and we posed a hypothetical: if they’re so safe and needed, would he want a data center built within eyeshot of his Bedminster golf course, or heaven forbid, near Mar-a-Lago?

It didn’t take long for that to be answered….

The Palm Beach County Commission on Tuesday unanimously approved the first reading of a one-year moratorium on the construction of new hyperscale AI data centers. The temporary ban is intended to give county officials and staff time to research and draft comprehensive regulations for the fast-growing industry, which has faced increasing public scrutiny.
WFLX, 8/27/26

Funny how that happens.

Too many politicians believe what they impose on constituents will never adversely affect them. They also believe any opposition is based on ignorance and the ease in which we supposedly succumb to propaganda.

House Speaker Mike Johnson warned against the “dangerous prospect” of a federal moratorium on data centers on Tuesday.

The Louisiana Republican, when asked whether he believes the federal government should override local control over data center siting and zoning decisions, advocated for a “measured approach” toward data centers as the country attempts to keep pace with Chinese artificial intelligence innovation.
The Detroit News, 8/18/26

Keep pace?

I guess you would accept that if you didn’t have the ability to conduct a simple search to avoid putting yourself in the position of taking Republicans at their word yet again.

As of early 2025, the United States has around 5,426 active facilities. This number keeps growing as the demand for data storage, cloud computing, and online services rises. A few large companies manage hundreds of facilities nationwide. These include Equinix, Digital Realty, and CyrusOne, which help form the country’s digital backbone.
C&C Technology Group, 5/31/25

I think it safe to assume a few more have been built since, and as far as keeping pace with China….

As of 2026, there were 368 data centers in China, the most of any country or territory in the Asia-Pacific region. China had the fourth-highest number of data centers worldwide.
Statista, 6/12/26

If based on simple numbers, this is how data center dominance is being dishonestly pitched from the same people who can’t seem to balance a budget.

And I’m sorry if we’re to blindly supposed to take Republicans at their word, again.

For many years, Republicans implored the base to help them win control of the House so they could repeal Obamacare. Republicans gave them the House in 2010. Republicans then implored the base to help them win the Senate so they could repeal Obamacare. Republican gave them both chambers by 2015 and then all we heard was give them the presidency so they could repeal Obamacare.

It’s 2026, Republicans have controlled the House, Senate and White House for years, we still have Obamacare but we’re to trust them on data centers today because of what they say and please disregard what they didn’t do.

Republican candidate for governor and South Florida congressman Byron Donalds said during an interview on June 26 that he wants to “make sure that we’re protecting power and that we’re protecting water resources for the future of Florida and for the people of Florida.”

He says those things while collecting millions of dollars in campaign contributions from the very companies that either build or support A.I. data centers.
WESH, 7/30/26

And there are some very well known, yet behind closed doors secrets that must be acknowledged.

And it’s a healthy thing not to trust politicians, most recently on the topic of data centers. There are a lot of new promises being made.

We’re told data centers will create jobs. Sure, construction jobs are good-paying but in this case, they’re temporary. Once construction is completed and the data centers go online, they create a few dozen full time jobs.

We’re told the taxes data centers will pay will directly help local communities. So you infuse local communities with cash, they build a couple community playgrounds, and local politicians vote themselves and government employees raises. Reducing deficits will not happen, and property taxpayers will never get relief by way of tax reduction or, heaven forbid, rebates. This is verified by history.

We’re told data centers creating their own power will relieve the grid and monthly power bills will go down. Anyone see a report of that happening anywhere since the creation of the centers?

We’re told data centers are not forcing local politicians to sign NDAs prior to discussions, Non disclosure agreements are not signed for free, and by their very nature, they prevent politicians from admitting they were presented and possibly paid for in the first place.

We’re told data centers will, after backlash, recycle their cooling water and not dump and pollute local waterways. But once they’re built and have local government in their back pocket, what will happen if they do? People who live in areas near data centers and seeing a growing incursion of locals, and not the kind you’d welcome to an afternoon barbecue.

We’re told data centers won’t directly harm the environment, despite the water polluted and enormous amounts of trees that have to be removed to accommodate them.

One of the biggest concerns is where new data centers are built. Large AI data centres can cover many hectares of land. Before construction begins, forests, grasslands, wetlands or farmland may be cleared to make room for buildings, roads and electricity infrastructure. This destroys wildlife habitat and split ecosystems into smaller areas, making it harder for animals to find food, mates and safe places to live.
Deutsche Welle, 9/4/26

“We alls gots to suffer” in the name of AI supremacy.

Granted if you live in an urban area, bears and other predators are the least of your daily safety issues but for those who live in rural areas where miles of pristine forests have been cleared to make room for solar farms and data centers, the animals gotta go somewhere and if bears end up roaming through your backyard, no biggie.

And as long as the President suffers from the city mentality of throwing something in the woods they don’t want in the city, this data center rift will be a minefield that will never be solved because we’re to revive trust Republicans burned through years ago.

A simple question is why can’t/won’t data centers be constructed in urban areas that are large and vacant. For those of you old enough, the much of the exterior shots in the 1981 movie “Escape from New York” were not shot in New York.

The film’s setting proved to be a potential problem for John Carpenter, who needed to create a decaying, semi-destroyed version of New York City on a shoestring budget. They sent Barry Bernardi, their location manager (and associate producer), “on a sort of all-expense-paid trip across the country looking for the worst city in America,” producer Debra Hill remembers.

Bernardi suggested East St. Louis, Illinois, because it was filled with old buildings “that exist in New York now, and [that] have that seedy run-down quality” that the team was looking for.
Wikipedia

There are a lot of seedy, run-down, abandoned areas of cities with existing infrastructure that could be re-tapped into and could easily accommodate data centers. Why is this not even being considered? Has it be predetermined that data centers must be first optioned in rural areas with fewer voters to object and potentially disrupt the political upward path of the elected?

Insulting the intelligence of the electorate is not the best thing to do when the words of politicians and corporate lobbyists can easily be verified or debunked. China is not the big problem here. The billions of dollars publicly traded in AI chips that are currently homeless grumbling investors who see no substantial return on investment is a very big problem.

It’s being made our problem, again by those who stand to benefit the most and not be affected. Until data centers are in their neighborhoods affected their quality of life, the disingenuous pressure campaign will continue.

One of the most frustrating aspects of consuming news is when reporters write with conviction about that which they’ve never experienced and know nothing about. One of the latest controversies surrounds the Iran War naval deployments and those publicly whining to the media. During my Navy enlistment we were instructed to not talk to the media. The reasons are obvious. With today’s helicopter parents of weak children, those reasons are abundantly justified.

Jefferson Kelley wants his son home and is willing to trade places with the Navy sailor.

Kelley, of Cincinnati, Ohio, wrote a letter Aug. 13 addressed to Sen. Bernie Moreno (R-Ohio) that includes a rather unique proposal: He wants to switch spots with his son, Jackson, 20, due to ongoing reported conditions aboard the USS Abraham Lincoln that has exceeded 250 days of deployment. He calls it a “parent swap.”
Military.com, 8/14/26

During my time in, many months on the flight deck of the USS Midway where flight operations in the South China Sea were seasonably harsh, none of us even considered asking or having a parent request to replace us.

The vessel has drawn widespread attention in recent days due to various reports regarding limited food rations, safety concerns, water contamination and poor mental health, which has purportedly led to some sailors attempting to jump overboard.

There were many deployments during the Obama and Biden administrations. Many were on the ground in places like Afghanistan. Do any of you recall “various reports regarding limited food rations, safety concerns, water contamination and poor mental health, which has purportedly led to some sailors attempting to jump overboard”? Of course not, because the media actively supported Barack Obama and Joe Biden and really could give a damn about those on the ground.

Lately, headlines burned about the hell that was the conditions on the Lincoln and the debunking received the traditional muted coverage.

The USS Abraham Lincoln has been under scrutiny after reports of suicide attempts and deteriorating morale among the 5,000-person crew that has been at sea since November 21. The Navy, U.S. Central Command and Secretary of War Pete Hegseth, a former Middle Tennessee resident, have denied the issues aboard the ship, saying reports had been “completely misrepresented,” according to USA TODAY.
The Tennessean, 8/19/26

Iran claimed it struck a US aircraft carrier with drones as it retaliated against a joint US-Israeli attack in late February that has triggered a regional war, but two videos circulating on social media do not show purported damage to the USS Abraham Lincoln. The United States has said the ship was not struck by Iranian drones — one of the videos is AI-generated, while the other depicts a fire on a US warship in 2020.
AFP Fact Check, 3/11/26

On Aug. 12, 2026, the Iranian state-owned Mehr News Agency published a story titled “Seven dead in brawl aboard USS Abraham Lincoln.”

Seven US Navy personnel have reportedly been killed and several others wounded in a violent clash aboard the USS Abraham Lincoln, as growing unrest among the carrier’s crew has exposed mounting pressure inside the US military amid a prolonged deployment. The incident erupted after an adviser to US Central Command (CENTCOM) chief Brad Cooper boarded the carrier to address mounting complaints from crew members following protests by their families over the ship’s prolonged deployment, according to Tasnim News Agency, citing an informed military source.

According to the Mehr News Agency story, crew members allegedly booed and threw water bottles at Cooper, which escalated into a fight among crew members “involving knives and other bladed weapons, leaving seven personnel dead and several others wounded, according to the source.”

Searches on Google, DuckDuckGo and Yahoo found no indication that reputable news outlets independent of Iran’s government have corroborated Mehr News Agency’s report with original reporting. There’s also no public evidence that Cooper visited the USS Abraham Lincoln in August; his last confirmed visit was in February, according to Central Command.

The email listed on Tasnim News Agency’s website returned an error message. Mehr News Agency did not immediately respond to a request to direct us to the original source of its story.
Snopes, 8/13/26

The United States government refuted reports of difficult and unsanitary conditions aboard the USS Abraham Lincoln, while online rumors alleged sailors were ordered to sign non-disclosure agreements (NDAs) to disembark the vessel. But the claims about the legally binding documents lack evidence and originated on a political satire account.

“Dictator Trump is ordering USS Abraham Lincoln sailors to sign an NDA before they come ashore,” claims the speaker in an August 16, 2026 Facebook reel. “He does not want them to say anything negative, nasty about their deployment.”

Similar claims circulated on InstagramThreads and TikTok, with some users alleging the NDA order came from Secretary of Defense Pete Hegseth.
AFP Fact Check, 8/20/26

President Donald Trump on Monday called reports of deteriorating conditions aboard the USS Abraham Lincoln “fake” while clashing with a CNN reporter during a tense Oval Office exchange. When asked by reporter Kristen Holmes if there is enough food on the Lincoln, Trump responded, “There is. That was a fake CNN report. Over the years, we had them out there much longer. An admiral told me, ‘I have been on ships much longer than that, sir.’ And people on the Lincoln say it’s beautifully taken care of.”

A spokesperson for CNN told Newsweek that it stands by its reporting.
Newsweek, 8/18/26

What the admiral expressed to President Trump is very true.

While the media is bellyaching about the long nine month “record-setting’ deployment (which it wasn’t), I was just one of thousands who served aboard the Midway, which was nicknamed the “USS Never Dock” as the fleet’s only forward-deployed carrier (homeported outside the United States), that AVERAGED nine months at sea every year. While the media repeated “anonymous” reports of long 12-hour days, it should be noted that sea duty is not a 9-5 job. During naval deployments there are two shifts, “12 on, 12-off” where the day shift is from 7am to 7pm and the night shift is 7pm to 7am. Flight deck personnel hours will vary depending on operational obligations.

Unlike the civilian world, work hours are set and your daddy doesn’t get to bail you out when times are inconvenient.

But daddy Kelley’s motivations seem to extend past his son’s workload.

“I’m gonna come right out and say it.: I blame Donald Trump and Benjamin Netanyahu. This war did not have to happen. … None of these kids needed to be shipped off to fight a war of choice. They did not deserve to be put in a situation where there’s no getting out of it. This is going to be another forever war, so I put the accountability straight on them. I’m not trying to be one of those people that’s crazy picket-sign protesting. However, I also have no problem saying that, in my opinion, they are directly responsible for what we’re in, and I wouldn’t hesitate for a second to say it directly to them, eye to eye, face to face.”
Military.com, 8/14/26

So, the media found yet another Trump hater whose opinion they could amplify and hopefully perpetuate the narrative that the Lincoln is a floating hellscape.

Yes, depending on where you worked, conditions on a carrier during extended flight operations was harsh. Yes, some of us whined but that whining never left the department, let alone the ship. From Aviation Boatswains Mate to Boiler Tech to Machinist Mate to Cook to Weapons Tech to the Captain and XO, everyone’s job was tough but it’s what we signed up for, and it would eventually end with a port visit that would make those complaints a distant memory.

The U.S. aircraft carrier USS Abraham Lincoln will make a stop in Thailand after its grueling deployment in the Middle East, Thai officials said Wednesday. The Lincoln was supporting the U.S. war against Iran, and its deployment included a record-setting uninterrupted time at sea of more than 250 days. Concerns have grown about the Lincoln’s lengthy deployment following reports of deteriorating mental health among the crew and shortages of supplies including food and hygiene products.

Thai defense ministry spokesperson Surasant Kongsiri said that the Lincoln will stop in Thailand next week for rest and recovery before returning to its U.S base. “The stop in Thailand is a chance for the crew to go ashore and relax,” he told reporters at a news conference in Bangkok.
ABC News, 8/26/26

If they’re going to Pattaya Beach, they WILL “relax”.

Again, serving in the military is a choice and when you do so, you serve at the pleasure of the president; in this case a president who looked back on the thousands of soldiers and civilians who were kidnapped, raped, maimed and murdered by the Iranian regime and its proxies for decades. Almost every time you see a veteran with scars, burns and/or prosthetic limbs, that was most likely from being shot or bombed in the Middle East by weapons and IEDs paid for and constructed by Iranian agents.

This is not a war of choice. Previous presidents allowed this to perpetuate unaddressed, if not rewarded in cash.

President Trump is putting an end to Middle East terror. That requires a military that’s willing and able to finish the job.

Not a helicopter daddy.

On the Internet Movie Data Base (imdb) website, here’s one plot summary of the movie “The Matrix”….

Thomas Anderson, a computer programmer living a double life as the hacker “Neo,” discovers that the world around him is a simulated reality called the Matrix, controlled by intelligent machines that harvest human energy. Recruited by Morpheus and Trinity, Neo learns to bend the rules of the Matrix and becomes humanity’s potential savior. As he trains and grows in power, he must decide whether to embrace his role as “The One” and confront the system controlling the world, leading to a battle that challenges the nature of reality itself.
imdb

Now, let’s change a few words.

… the world around him is a simulated reality called the Matrix, controlled by liberals….

Without having to be physically plugged into a “matrix”, that “reality” is what we’ve been experiencing for decades.

Morpheus offers Neo two pills and an ultimatum: if he takes the blue pill, Neo will wake up in his bed none the wiser; if he takes the red pill, he will uncover the Matrix, but there will be no going back. Neo chooses the red pill and is able to see the true nature of his world.
Britannica

We all know the entertainment industry is a predominantly leftist blue pill that keeps us in a progressive immersion where anyone not sharing their views is ruthlessly blacklisted, thus banned from earning a livelihood. With that, almost everything you see and hear from the movie, television, sports, and music businesses are from that very familiar, condescending, liberal perspective.

Almost every advertisement is cast with actors who look and act like liberals. Every food and home search program features Birkenstock-wearing, man-bun, nose-pierced, gender-fluid, tattooed caricatures, with mouthy know-it-all, entitled children and young adults who’ve been saved from becoming their parents.

Along with liberals in the advertising industry crafting messaging agreeable to the left, there’s the insidious “Ad Council” who create preachy public service messages for television and radio and, in essence, tell us all how we should behave in civil society based on opinions and criteria on topics they choose.

Our mission is to convene the best storytellers to educate, unite and uplift — by opening hearts, inspiring action and accelerating change. We won’t stop until we live in a society where every single person can thrive.
The Ad Council “mission”

How many of “the best” in this picture would you have “educate” you, considering we don’t know anything about any of these people… aside from the fact they’re probably all liberals (with all the issues they commonly have)?

Public relation self-inflicted disasters like the Bud Light and Cracker Barrel debacles occurred because those campaigns were created and approved by liberals for liberals, but they arrogantly assumed targeting an audience wasn’t necessary and put them out for mass distribution. It was assumed that everyone seeing those ad campaigns would seal-clap in agreement, but it also obvious that those creators knew few out of their inner circles and their messaging was quite problematic.

The constant bombardment of leftist messaging is meant to give the impression that liberals are the norm and everyone else’s is not.

And ALWAYS have imagery of happy, smiling young liberals because they’re always so… happy (when they’re not taking to the streets to “shut shit down”).

Almost everything the left presents is from their preferred perspective. That includes schizophrenic “green” menu items offered in restaurants, overemphasis on (their) mental health, the quasi-masculine clothing options for men and clunky, unattractive gender-fluid fashions for women, liberal-thick documentaries automatically assumed factual enough to be shown in grade school classrooms, normalized graphic violence and rough sex while demanding gun control and #MeToo, allowing art and music to be dominated by the naturally talentless, and The View is under the ABC News division.

Talk about ass backwards.

Liberals are free to use any kind of music in their productions but country music is reserved primarily for whom they look down on as the red pill, trailer trash, white conservative demographic. And don’t get them started on those fascist anti-abortion Christians….

As long as they control the media, the freakshow will be the normal.

Apple News bias: Stories from conservative outlets rise to almost 2% in February from 0%

For too long, the media had a stranglehold on information disseminated to the public. Rush Limbaugh poked a middle finger-sized hole in that thought monopoly and they left will dance on his grave until the end of time. So you can appreciate the butthurt from overpaid news hosts and pundits when their declarations are doubted, or heaven forbid, mocked.

As a result, the left has no problem wishing ill (and worse) on their opponents, especially when they’re publicly humiliated being incapable of intellectual debate. Imagine if they controlled squiddies….

Almost everything labeled “nonpartisan” has a liberal slant. Try watching a few minutes of CSPAN’s Washington Journal or a book tour segment with featured speaker and you catch the drift.

The future is not set because true scientists in those white lab coats are not programming “artificial intelligence”; young liberals are programming AI products and their search results, for example, are clearly guided by their time-limited, narrow-minded, unearned know-it-all life experience.

You know, garbage in-garbage out.

Not that anything can or will be done about it, but when you next consume anything on your television or electronic device, you’ll clearly see the world of the left, in your face, like it or not.

Anyone who’s done any kind of routine disk maintenance on a desktop or laptop understands the priorities and decisions that must be made. If you start filling up your computer with pics, music and videos, you must either purchase an appropriate external drive to save those files or delete them to make room.

Anyone who has a social media account can upload comments (text), pics and video for free. Those items have to be stored somewhere for easy access and distribution. So, for those who quickly assert that data centers are needed solely for artificial intelligence, digital surveillance and personal data sales have clearly never performed routine disk maintenance or run their own website: they are functionally and arrogantly ignorant. Storage space, despite all we’ve been told about the “cloud” IS finite.

For humans, the concept of unlimited storage is still hard to grasp. After all, physical space is finite; even the largest library can only fit so many books. It wasn’t all that long ago that storage space on our computers was a real issue.

Currently, there’s no real reason to worry about running out of Cloud storage. By 2020, the human population as a whole had produced 64.2 zettabytes of data. By 2025, it’s estimated that we will have produced 181 zettabytes of data.
TRG Data Centers

That was a mere doubling of data in five years and now we’re in 2026.

If the worldwide production of data increases as forecast and our current data storage technology stays the same, we could be looking at running out of data storage space.

Because of video uploads alone, the amount of data being stored has grown exponentially since 2005 when YouTube first came online, later exploded with the advent of Facebook Live in 2015, and with that advent came those known as “digital influencers”: people who created nothing of real value but insist they can tell us all what to do or think simply because they exist.

The male-to-female ratio of social media influencers varies significantly by platform and niche, with women generally dominating the influencer marketing industry overall, while men often lead in specific sectors like news, tech, and health.

Global data indicates that approximately 77% to 84% of monetizing influencers are women, compared to 16% to 23% who are men. However, this gender split shifts considerably depending on the content category and platform:

Overall Influencer Marketing: Women hold the majority of sponsorship deals, with reports showing 77% of deals going to female influencers in 2022, while men accounted for only 21%.

Another analysis suggests 84% of influencers are women.

Platform Breakdown:
Instagram: 78% of monetizing influencers are female, and 22% are male.
TikTok: 76% of influencers identify as female, and 24% as male.
YouTube: 69% are female, and 31% are male.

People upload pics of their birthdays, vacations, nights out drinking, local weather, etc. on all the major social media platforms. People shoot video of their day-to-day activities, pranks, rants, hissy fits, criminal activity, protests, concerts, town meetings, and almost anything else you can think of. Don’t get me started on those single-view podcasts. The amount of storage for videos alone uploaded worldwide on an hourly basis must be staggering… because it’s for, the most part, free.

But what if storage capacity in the cloud isn’t as infinite as we’ve been assured? What if it has to be managed, and if so, how could it be managed?

Well, social media platforms could decide to purge as necessary. Target some of the older users who have years of uploads, send those users notifications that their content has been flagged as objectionable, without providing details (you know, “privacy” concerns), and take down their account. You do that to a good amount of users and that frees up storage space, but that won’t solve the problem; just slow it down.

So imagine what could only be considered a shock-the-world moment: what would happen if social media sites started charging users per upload?

Mere text comments and responses are a drop in the bucket and would be considered gratis freebies.

However…

According to the report, 57% of people in Gen Z (people born between 1997 and 2012) say they’d be an influencer if the opportunity presented itself. That number is virtually the same as in 2019 (57%).
Parents, 10/10/23

What if a person were to upload a video and before posting, that user was given a choice of resolution quality (240p up to 4K) and the cost of the upload were to be adjusted accordingly, and also charge according to the time length of the video? A debit or credit card number would have to be on file to complete the transaction before the upload button would be accessed. How many people would take a second and think about if that video was worth the cost?

If you think that absurd, there are those of us who remember a time when TV was free because stations charged advertisers to air commercials during programs. Today, stations charge advertisers to air commercials during programs and we have to pay multiple monthly subscriptions just to watch even the local channels.

I rest my case.

How many parents would allow their children to upload videos willy-nilly? Those costs, unrestrained, could add up to hundreds of dollars per week. How many media companies would allow their vloggers to upload mundane, click-bait rants that bring in little, if any, revenue?

At present, those “digital influencers” who’ve monetized their existence aren’t charged for their uploads and operate at an instant profit (that is, if you don’t include filters, props and Botox…). What if they were charged for their uploads? What would that do to their bottom line? How many of these narcissists would not even bother imposing on the rest of us because it would cost them money up front?

The overall fallout could be intense. You think young people losing their minds and burning Tesla dealerships was bad. Imagine the fallout if people couldn’t upload their videos and live-streams for free anymore. Social media corporations would be surrounded by fences with razor wire, you know, like data centers are. Social media employees would become instant pariahs and would keep their employment a well-guarded secret.

So, while we’re told we won’t run out of storage…

We’ll go on record as saying no – datacenters won’t run out of storage space in the near future. And it’s unlikely that we’ll have to worry about a shortage of data storage anytime soon. While physical space is a constraint, the world has not maxed out its current data storage.

… then why the immediate, forceful push for new data centers? Why are local politicians and other public officials approached by owners of data centers, asked to sign non-disclosure agreements for undisclosed compensation (no one signs an NDA for free), and then ignore the concerns of their constituents as conspiracy theorists while reciting the benefit talking points?

Until social media companies can find a way to do a mass purge (disk maintenance) of their platforms as to try and keep up with the hourly uploads of content worldwide, all they can do is create more external hard drives: data centers.

Pissing off those in rural areas is preferable than the alternative: charging influencers, the youth, and everyone else who uploads sizable content. We all know those who live in more affluent areas (including pro-data center politicians and pundits) will not allow themselves to be inconvenienced by ugly, noisy data centers that ruins picturesque views, environments, and ultimately property taxes and values.

Reasonable people would consider paying if their content was worth it. The entitled of today would have a real problem with paying, and we all know how stompy-foot ugly things can and will get when they don’t get what they want.

While too many in the political and media wing of the left are hand-wringing with the “takeover” of the Democrat Party by socialists and how they got here, many of us saw this coming decades ago. Not that it would evolve to this point but we understand.

Many of us had to grow up fast and learn how to take care of ourselves, which may contribute to the lack of sympathy when it comes to hearing today’s young people whine about challenging aspects of their lives. It all started for many of us at an early age.

Although the term “latchkey kid” first appeared in the 1940s to describe young children taking care of themselves after school while dad fought in the war and mom went off to work, the anxiety over latchkey kids really exploded in the United States in the late 1970s and early 1980s.

Higher divorce rates and more job opportunities for women left a reported 3 million 6- to 13-year-olds fending for themselves after school in 1982. The kids were often recognized by the house key they wore on a string around their necks. That year, People magazine ran an interview with two education researchers under the headline, “The Lonely Life of ‘Latchkey’ Children, Say Two Experts, Is a National Disgrace.”
How Stuff Works

There were benefits to being a “latchkey kid”. We learned responsibility. Losing the key to the front door could result in long waits in the elements and then facing an irritated parent who now had to replace that key before the next work day.

It resulted in us having to occupy our time without supervision. There was no Internet, so we would watch the limited television options on VHF or UHF (look it up), listen to music on the radio, or go out and play with the neighborhood kids.

We had to feed ourselves, and for most of us, that was before the ready availability of microwave ovens, which meant we had to know how to make sandwiches, cook and leave no dirty dishes behind.

We learned a modicum of independence.

Most of us had good kids until they went to school and experienced other people’s kids and teachers who began filling  their heads with subject matter and opinions, behind our backs, that were at odds with ours.

Then there was the official push to pussify children at school.

Last week, Willett Elementary School in Attleboro, Mass., became one of four schools nationwide to enforce a tag ban. Principal Gaylene Heppe said the school made the decision because recess is “a time when accidents can happen.”
ABC News, 10/25/06

Many of us played tag during school recess, a game brilliant in simplicity that encouraged strategy and physicality without the need for any equipment or intricate rules to adhere to. “Accidents” were a part of the game, mostly a skinned knee or elbow on the playground asphalt; nothing really warranting a nationwide ban, but this was one of the open salvos in the coddling of children into the entitled brats we have today who believe they can run a municipality, let alone a nation.

It didn’t stop at tag. They went after dodgeball….

Back in 2001 school districts in Maryland began discouraging and even banning the game. According to a New Times Times article from May of that year, officials claimed that this type of game could have a traumatizing effect on young children because it encourages violence and human targeting. Essentially, the weakest players will be picked off first because they’re the easiest target. There is also a safety factor when bigger, stronger kids are hurling balls at smaller, weaker ones.
Live959.com

“Violence and human targeting” can happen in a Walmart parking lot. Wouldn’t some advance training come in handy when encountering the bullies in the workplace that happens everyday? Wouldn’t be nice to know how to navigate through the oncoming? Yes, the older big kids would pummel the younger small kids, but in the nasty cycle of life, the younger kids eventually became the older kids issuing the pummeling. For the most part, it was all in fun, that is until the academics (probably the ones who got picked on) needed a cause to champion.

Then there was the effort to minimize failure and hurt feelings; something that many of used as a motivator to succeed and excel.

By the 1980s and 1990s, participation trophies had become the norm. This coincided with the rise of the self-esteem movement in education and parenting, which suggested that building children’s confidence was critical to their long-term success. The “self-esteem” movement is over. Here’s what’s taking its place; many educators and psychologists believed that frequent praise and recognition would protect children from anxiety, depression, and academic failure.
TeamLinkt

This directly coincides with the socialist doctrine where all should be equal. Okay, the “workers” and “comrades” should be equal. Those in and around leadership always eat well. Participation trophies were a concept pushed by comfortable white liberals that didn’t really exist outside the suburbs. On Third World soccer fields, there were winners and losers. On basketball courts in the hood, there were winners and losers. White suburban parents had quite the affect on society and the children they raised because of the sheer numbers in the American population.

As a single father of two black boys, I always believed the only thing between them and you was me. I didn’t raise them in an atmosphere of fear but I wasn’t their “friend” either; I was the parent as was my father to me. It was only after I became a parent with all of the inherent responsibilities that my relationship with my father evolved into a respectful friendship.

In many cases, childless academics and psychologists would chime in and tell us how to be parents and friends with our children.

“Don’t be their friend, be their parent.” That’s Parenting 101, right? It rings true. And as a kid who first tried pot when I was 12 because a friend’s parent supplied it, I understand the intent of the saying. I experienced a parent trying to be a peer, and I agree that such an interaction isn’t safe or healthy parenting.

At the same time, while it’s true that parents shouldn’t provide alcohol or drugs to their children, is that the only way to be a friend?
Psychology Today, 7/10/23

As a child, I experienced friends whose parents let them smoke pot in their room and was amazed at the way some talked to their parents and I wasn’t alone.

I found some white kids can curse around the house! That fucked me up! When I was little, I couldn’t believe that shit because I couldn’t even say “dagg” around my house. My father said “sounds too much like damn.” I got in trouble for saying shit the wrong way.

I was in the house with Tom Kildea. His mother said “Tom you’re a little late!” He said, “Come on Mom, I’m moving as fast as I can, shit.”

And I was standing like this…. And if I tried to pull some shit like that in my house? “Ed, you’re a little late!”

“Oh, come on, Pop, shit, what is this! Come on, damn!”

My Pop just go: [Fires gun] “That motherfucker’s crazy!”
Eddie Murphy, Delirious, 1983

Of course, white kids aren’t a sole problem. Black kids are actin’ all wild and the media’s giving them as much cover as possible.

Many people are upset by the legacy media’s use of “teen” when reporting on violent, criminal incidents. The reason, of course, is that while it’s technically correct that teens are committing the crimes media are reporting, “teen” is being used as a sanitized way of saying “black teens” or “black people.”
Peter Boghossian, Substack, 9/4/25

I don’t think we have to worry much about these “teens” becoming socialists as that would require them to at least act like they care about other people and know a little about politics. But there is something the teens do have with socialists: today’s young socialists know no boundaries when it comes to common courtesy, let alone respect for anyone while demanding to be heard and respected; not because of any kind of professional accomplishment but simply because they exist.

But I digress….

The emergence of the “soccer mom”, those who would drive their kids the few short blocks to school and transport them to a variety of afterschool activities, became a plague that continued from elementary school on.

Do you stand over your child’s shoulder when they do their homework? Do you find yourself directing your kids’ every move? “Pick up this, clean up that, sit up straight, finish your homework, study hard, say thank you.” Do you spend a good chunk of your day obsessing about your children’s success, like will they make the sports team or school play, and will they get into the top-notch college you (yes, you!) always dreamed of?

I hate to break it to you, but you may be a helicopter parent—a term which is commonly used but also has a basis in research on specific parenting behaviors and their effects on children. The term paints a picture of a parent who hovers over their children, always on alert, and who swoops in to rescue them at the first sign of trouble or disappointment. The term was first coined in 1990 by Foster Cline and Jim Fay in their book, Parenting with Love and Logic, and it gained relevance with college admissions staff who noticed how parents of prospective students were inserting themselves in the admissions process.
Gottman

Many of us shook our heads at these parents because their kids were often the brats we wanted nowhere near our kids. We had a good idea what they’d grow into and as it turns out, we were right in the toxic atmosphere they brought into the professional workplace.

When we got our first job, we would be silent and observe how the job was to be done. We didn’t want to attract negative attention by making unnecessary mistakes, so we would take the direction of the experienced and ask questions. We would never think of walking in the first day, assuming we knew everything, including the belief we knew more than those with years of experience including the boss.

It was a rare thing that we actually liked our job. Most of the time it was about doing what we needed to do to feed and house ourselves and later feed, clothe and house our kids. We did it because we had to, but later a lot of our kids decided that was not the way they wanted to live.

More millennials are putting in long hours at work with no indication they’re doing more or better work or earning career advancement. In some ways, they’ve become their parents, who put noses to the grindstone over having a balanced life. And that’s not good.
The Detroit News, 1/1/17

Yeah, long hours sucked yet we managed to survive the workplace with no mental health days offered and certainly no parental intervention with the boss would ever be considered.

It became a norm.

With millennial children now in their 20s, more helicopter parents are showing up in the workplace, sometimes even phoning human resources managers to advocate on their child’s behalf.

Michigan State University surveyed more than 700 employers seeking to hire recent college graduates. Nearly one-third said parents had submitted resumes on their child’s behalf, some without even informing the child. One-quarter reported hearing from parents urging the employer to hire their son or daughter for a position. Four percent of respondents reported that a parent actually showed up for the candidate’s job interview.
NPR, 2/6/12

The pandemic sure as fuck didn’t help as it gave rise to a medical necessity-turned-demand: working from home.

So they tried to revolutionize the workplace to their liking without appreciating the commonly held notion of what employment was.

You were hired to do a job. You always had the option to leave and find one more to your liking. Advancement depended on just how much you were willing to go above and beyond. Fairness wasn’t expected. There were personalities to navigate. And if at any time you thought you could do the job better than your boss, you were free to investigate, research and do what was needed to create your own company.

So, how does this all tie into millennials and their easy infiltration into the world of socialist politics?

For the most part, they were spared the tag, dodgeball adversity of life and the opulent comfort afforded them by parents allowed them to gravitate to a political machine the rewards the underachievers who have the craving of attention, and later used artificial legacy and social media as the means for attention as the metric for relevance.

Bernie Sanders, the long-serving Senator from Vermont and presidential candidate, used to complain about “millionaires and billionaires” while he was a working-class voice in politics; however, he is now a millionaire himself.
Townhall, 7/8/26

Funny how that happens and by the way, Sanders has something in common with Graham Platner the left accepted and moved on from….

Presidential candidate Bernie Sanders has come under fire for a recently surfaced 1972 essay in which he suggested that women fantasize about being gang-raped.
People, 6/2/15

He’s grown and is better now.

Alexandria Ocasio-Cortez, Democratic Socialist Representative, grew up in a wealthy suburb and attended one of the most expensive colleges in America before her election to Congress.
Townhall, 7/8/26

We couldn’t wait to move out. It was just as hard then as it is today to support and house ourselves. We adjusted our expectations appropriately. Sometimes a small studio and/or roommates would have to suffice. Maybe we’d have to walk or take the bus to work. We’d have to budget wisely as there were no advance-pay apps in those days.

Life could be hard and there was no social media for us to assume anyone cared about what could be considered hardship.

And the LAST thing we’d want is the humiliation of having to move back home with parents. That was a mark of failure on us and shame from a good number of parents.

Living at home today is an entitlement until the child is good and ready to leave, and some good timing never hurts.

Katie Wilson, Seattle’s democratic socialist mayor, 43, said now that she has been elected mayor and is earning more money as a result. She no longer needs to ask her parents for help to pay the bills.
Fox News, 11/20/25

And the nepobabies just keep on coming.

New York City’s democratic socialist mayor, Zohran Mamdani, also grew up in comfort. His parents own a five-bedroom mansion. “He is the poster boy for luxury beliefs. Almost like he was made in a laboratory. He has a wealthy filmmaker mother, an Ivy League professor father.”

Successful socialist influencers, such as Hasan Piker, also grew up wealthy. Piker’s dad was an executive at one of Turkey’s biggest companies. Now Piker earns millions streaming on Twitch, denouncing the “inherently oppressive capitalist dogma” that makes him rich.

“He was seen wearing $1,300 glasses to his trip to Cuba. Ostensibly, they think that everyone should be equal, but then when you look at how they behave in their lives, they’re obsessed with getting into the right colleges, wearing the right clothes, showing off that they have money (and) the right beliefs.”
Townhall, 7/8/26

Translation: they’re phonies and nowhere near as smart as they think they are.

And we can’t leave out the progressive teachers who’ve infected the minds of students during the 180 days of the year they had them captive in classrooms.

These socialists millennials don’t have the humility to know they’re over their heads when it comes to most facets of running campaigns and elected positions. As they have little relevant life experience, they’ll rely on tools they can use to make it easier to appear competent. But they’ll fail and when they do, no amount of blame-shifting will absolve them. They can’t even admit their failures (see Graham Platner’s so-called withdrawal from the Maine senate race).

When they do fail, they will go into their stompy-foot mode of public action that traditionally includes vandalism, arson, looting, etc. If the damage they do can be limited to their own jurisdictions, we’ll all be better off.

When they crash and burn, let them. Losing will be their belated part of growing up.
