]]>Residents, families and members of the local community came together for a very special afternoon at Willow Bank Care Home, as the home hosted a 1940s-inspired tea party in honour of its veterans.
The celebration brought generations together for an afternoon filled with music, memories and plenty of nostalgia, with residents proudly displaying their wartime medals and sharing stories with guests.
One of the highlights of the afternoon was Willow Bank resident Major James Featherstone, who dressed in his full military attire for the occasion. His wife, Amanda, also brought along Jim’s collection of medals, giving guests the opportunity to see them up close and hear more about the stories behind them.
Willow Bank was also delighted to welcome the Mayor and Mayoress, Cllr Bill Kimberley and Cllr Mrs Celia Kimberley, who joined residents, relatives, friends and members of the community for the celebrations.
Adding to the nostalgic atmosphere was 1940s singer Belle, who was introduced to the home through Mike at MJE Management. Her performance soon had Union Jack flags waving and residents and guests joining in with well-known songs from the era.
Although the unpredictable British weather meant plans for an outdoor celebration had to be changed, the team simply brought the party indoors, transforming the home into its very own traditional street party.
The home’s kitchen team provided a special afternoon tea spread for guests to enjoy, while Activities Co-ordinator Jackie Burrows brought the whole event together.
Carole, Home Manager at Willow Bank Care Home, said: “It was such a special afternoon and wonderful to see so many residents, families, friends and people from our local community come together.
“For our veterans in particular, occasions like this are about so much more than having a party. They give people the opportunity to share their memories and experiences, to talk about the medals they are so rightly proud of and to know that their contribution is remembered and valued.
“Jim looked incredibly smart in his full attire, and it was lovely that Amanda brought his medals along for everyone to see. There was a real sense of pride throughout the home.
“A huge thank you must go to Jackie for organising such a memorable afternoon, our kitchen team for the wonderful food, Belle for bringing the music of the 1940s to life and, of course, everyone who joined us and made the day so special.”
The event forms part of Willow Bank Care Home’s ongoing programme of activities designed to help residents continue enjoying their interests, sharing their life stories and maintaining strong connections with the wider community.

]]>Residents at Brunswick House Nursing & Residential Home near Gloucester are proving that boxing isn’t just for the young, with regular sessions helping to keep them active, engaged and having plenty of fun along the way.
The home regularly welcomes boxing instructor Holly, who puts residents through their paces with sessions specially adapted so everyone can get involved, whatever their mobility or ability.
The sessions offer benefits for both physical and mental wellbeing. Punching the pads encourages movement, coordination and upper-body strength, while following different combinations helps residents with concentration, memory and reaction skills.
During the latest session, residents began with a gentle warm-up before practising a series of punches on the pads, starting with simple movements and gradually building up to more challenging combinations.
Holly then put their minds to work too, introducing different coloured targets and calling out colour sequences for residents to follow.
Karen, Home Manager at Brunswick House, said: “The boxing sessions have become a regular favourite here. They’re great fun, but there’s so much more going on than simply throwing a few punches.
“Residents are moving their bodies, working on their coordination and having to really concentrate on the different combinations. It’s lovely to see how engaged everyone becomes, and there’s always plenty of laughter and encouragement too.
“Activities like this are really important to us. We want residents to have opportunities to keep trying different things, challenging themselves and, most importantly, enjoying themselves.”
After a well-earned cool-down, residents tucked into another Friday favourite – fish for lunch – before swapping boxing gloves for dancing shoes for an afternoon of live music with popular singer Chris.
Chris spent time singing with residents individually and encouraging everyone to join in, before Brunswick House’s resident dancing duo, David and Georgina – affectionately known as the home’s ‘Dancing King’ and ‘Dancing Queen’ – took to the floor.
Karen added: “From boxing in the morning to singing and dancing in the afternoon, it was a brilliant Friday. Or, as we like to call it, a FUNday!”

As a Training Coordinator, you will work across a number of care homes providing inspirational face to face training to staff across a range of topics. You will be enthusiastic and highly organised with lots of previous experience in a similar role. You will ensure the Training Matrix is up to date and that staff are compliant with their training and provide any refresher training required. You will also be in charge of the induction of new starters including supporting new carers with the Care Certificate. You will work with the other Training Coordinator to ensure a joined up approach across our business. You must be able to drive so you can get to each site independently.

As a Wellbeing & Activities Coordinator, you will curate, organise and participate in a varied and exciting activities schedule for residents, which they can enjoy and which will enhance their wellbeing and quality of life.
Your daily routine will be to offer a range of activities throughout the day, taking into account the abilities and preferences of each resident at the home.
In this role you will be in charge of organising outside entertainment, seasonal parties and outings throughout the year. You will also need to arrange fundraising events to encourage involvement with the local community. There is an element of paperwork to this role so you must be able to keep records effectively.
