The Chippewa Valley Free Clinic has received a GOLD rating from the National Association of Free and Charitable Clinics (NAFC), ranking us as one of the best in the nation for quality healthcare services.
The mission of NAFC is to ensure the medically underserved have access to affordable healthcare. NAFC Quality Standards include policies and procedures related to patient care, risk management systems, clinic and pharmacy responsibilities, credentialing and privileging systems, and administration.

The Board of Directors of the Chippewa Valley Free Clinic announces the retirement of Executive Director Maribeth Woodford, effective June 30, 2024.
Woodford joined the Chippewa Valley Free Clinic in March of 2011. During her tenure, she helped the Clinic navigate four different relocations, ultimately spearheading the capital campaign to pay for the clinic’s new “forever” medical home and current location at 1030 Oak Ridge Drive in Eau Claire. In addition, she worked with the organization’s Board of Directors to develop new service areas to support the Clinic and ensure the Clinic’s ability to provide continuous care for patients.
Under Woodford’s leadership, the Chippewa Valley Free Clinic has grown and added additional services including an oral health/dental clinic, a women’s health clinic focusing on breast and cervical cancer screening, and a colon cancer screening program as well as increased their outreach on routine adult vaccinations.
“As I reflect on my time here at the Clinic, I’m so proud of everything that has been accomplished in the last 13 years. I’m deeply grateful for the staff and the many volunteers and community members who have stepped forward, sometimes in tough times, to ensure that all people, regardless of their financial situation, have access to health care. The Chippewa Valley area cares about its underserved, vulnerable population, and I am so very honored to have been a part of the programs and services that are part of the solution to offer a hand up to those in need,” said Woodford.
The Board of Directors has hired Wendy Andre, a native of Eau Claire, to succeed Woodford as Executive Director. Andre will begin her new position on July 1.

CVFC has had an exciting year, with many new part-time staff joining our team. We are pleased to announce the hire of two new positions – a Nurse Practitioner and an Interpreter!
Stacie Zais, FNP, joins the staff as a part-time Nurse Practitioner to serve patients during our Thursday clinics. We have extended our 1st & 3rd Thursday hours until 2pm for Stacie to see more patients.
Rachel Fettes has joined our team as a part-time Interpreter during active clinic hours, as well as to assist with Hispanic Case Management.
In addition to these new positions, we have welcomed Pat Schachtner, RN, to the team as our Clinic Assistant. Pat will be working closely with our Director of Clinical Services and will be in the office Tuesday, Wednesday, and Thursday, as well as active clinics.

Chippewa Valley Free Clinic Awarded Otto Bremer Trust Grant
The Chippewa Valley Free Clinic has been awarded funding of $45,000 through the Otto Bremer Trust. This generous grant has been provided for general operations to provide comprehensive health care to uninsured and underinsured low-income adults.

Last month, Citizen Action of Wisconsin held a press conference at CVFC, in support of a public option for BadgerCare. Senator Jeff Smith and State Representative Jodi Emerson attended to share information about the bill that was introduced in the state legislature. The bill “would lower healthcare costs throughout the state and provide more affordable healthcare options for Chippewa Valley families,” according to Citizen Action of Wisconsin.

We are pleased to announce that CVFC has hired Katelyn McClellan as our Vaccine Education Coordinator!
The Vaccine Education position is part-time and limited-term, funded through a DHS grant, which runs through June 2024. Katelyn’s primary role will be outreach and education on routine adult vaccinations in rural communities.
