]]>As officers were celebrating a longtime sergeant’s retirement in the main room of Monaghan’s Pub on Gwynn Oak Avenue, two masked men approached the carryout counter nearby around 5:30 p.m., police said. Monaghan’s owner Jack Milani said the men demanded cash from the register and then took off.
Some of the off-duty officers attending the retirement party gave chase and arrested the two men nearby, the department said.
Police charged Joseph McInnis III, 21, of the first block of Inwood Ave., and Tyree McCoy, 22, of the 3500 block of Cedar Drive, with armed robbery, theft and related offenses, department spokesman Cpl. Shawn Vinson said. Neither had an attorney listed in online court records.
Milani said he was surprised that someone would commit a robbery at his business, which is just across from a precinct station. During shift changes, he said, there are a lot of squad cars coming and going into the station, and he said many of the officers are regular customers.
“It’s kind of odd you would even attempt it,” Milani said. “[Officers] are always in here. There was a decent amount of them.”
The party was for David Neral, a longtime officer at Precinct 2, Vinson said.
Milani said he knew the officer. “He’s worked in this community as long as I can remember,” he said.
The sergeant has been with the department since 1988.

]]>The suspect “did his business and didn’t flush it,” said Ventura County Sheriff’s Office Det. Tim Lohman, according to the Associated Press.
Authorities say the break-in happened last October in Thousand Oaks. According to a release from the sheriff’s office, authorities obtained a DNA profile from evidence at the scene and submitted it to the Combined DNA Index System. It had a potential match with a known offender.
The Department of Justice told the sheriff’s office last month the DNA profile matched 42-year-old Andrew David Jensen.
Deputies had him in custody within a matter of days.
Jensen is in jail on a $70,000 bond, according to the sheriff’s office.

]]>The post This ‘very bad bank robber’ might want to find a new racket appeared first on America's Dumbest Criminals.
]]>The crook allegedly tried to hold up two banks on the Lower East Side and the East Village Wednesday — and may also be connected to another failed heist on Tuesday afternoon, police sources said.
“This was a very bad bank robber,” a police source told The Post.
He was busted by cops from the Strategic Response Group and later charged in connection with the robberies.
The first failed attempt Wednesday came at a Chase branch on Delancey Street, police said.
The thief targeted a Citibank near Astor Place and Broadway a short time later — again failing miserably.
Cops then arrested Richard Callison, 22, of Oradell, NJ, near East 14th Street and Third Avenue and held him in connection with the attempted heists, police sources said.
While sources said the robber was seen in a black shirt as he entered the banks — Callison was found in a shirt emblazoned with the logo of “Presto’s New York” pizza, which is located in Hackensack, NJ.
Cops also were looking at him in connection with an aborted job Tuesday at a Bank of America on Delancey Street, police sources said.
That crook also failed to make off with any dough, despite passing the teller a note that said: “Give me all the big bills, make the wrong move and you will get shot.”
The missive ended with the words: “Rapido, rapido.”
The teller was not intimidated by the note, and simply locked her drawer and walked away from the window, leaving the crook standing there empty handed, police sources said.
It’s not clear where Callison got his pizza shirt. Staff at Presto’s in Hackensack said they didn’t recognize Callison, but couldn’t believe their restaurant was caught up in the ordeal.
“I’m shocked right now,” the manager said. “It’s so weird to see him in our T-shirt.”
April Rich, 53, who is a cashier at Presto’s, said the shirt is from three years ago and they’ve since switched to a black colored version.
Even though it was a suspected criminal wearing their branded shirt, advertising “brick oven pizza & pasta,” Rich took the position there’s no such thing as bad publicity.
“Maybe it’ll be more advertising for us,” she chuckled.

]]>Responding to a call about a burglary Sunday, police in Fort Walton Beach, Fla., discovered a very forthright man claiming to be a drug dealer in need of some assistance.
David Blackmon allegedly told deputies with the Okaloosa County Sheriff’s office that a thief had broken into his car and swiped $50 in cash in addition to a quarter ounce of his prized cocaine, the Miami Herald reports.
Authorities confirmed that the items seemed to be missing from where the 35-year-old said he had put them, but on the bright side, the deputies were able to help him locate a second bag of coke that he had left on the center console, at which point they began reading Blackmon his rights.
In Deputy Dennis Fields’ arrest report, he noted, “Blackmon asked if I knew the cocaine was there, why did I let him keep talking.”
In addition to the baggie, the deputies also found a crack pipe and crack rock inside the car.
Blackmon was arrested and charged with resisting an officer without violence for allegedly refusing to follow commands, possessing drug paraphernalia and possessing cocaine, which is a felony charge.

]]>The post The Computer Crook appeared first on America's Dumbest Criminals.
]]>His strange story began with burglar alarms at Portal Publications in Novato, California, just north of San Francisco. Police rushed to the scene and caught Eipp, 39, and an accomplice running away, leaving an array of stolen computer equipment outside the office building.
Both men were arrested, and Eipp’s trial began last fall in the Civic Center courthouse in neighboring San Rafael. Two days into the proceedings, some Civic Center employees showed up for work, went to their cubicles and got quite a surprise. Their computers and monitors had been swiped. Yep, Jon just couldn’t help himself.
The previous evening, after his hearing, Eipp had hidden on a balcony until the Civic Center pretty much cleared out. Then he ducked into room C-10, loaded computer equipment into a recycling bin and wheeled his cargo outside. There, he stuffed it all into a large box that he tucked out of sight. Eipp was lucky enough to get his high-tech haul out of the building, but his stupidity caught up with him.
By the time Civic Center workers discovered their equipment had vanished, Eipp was already in police custody. It seems one heist just wasn’t enough: Shortly after leaving the Civic Center, he’d been caught right down the street trying to steal a Volkswagen. Not that he wouldn’t have been nabbed soon enough for the computer job, since fingerprints and a shoe print, along with video surveillance, made it clear Eipp was the culprit.
Now he faced charges that included attempted auto theft, burglary and grand theft. Last September, he pleaded guilty to them all. Speaking to a reporter, Eipp blamed his thievery in the courthouse on a drug problem, saying he’d stolen the computers because “I needed help and didn’t know how to ask for it.”
In the end, Eipp chose to help himself – to about four years in prison.

]]>Timothy James Chapek, 24, had allegedly broken into a home in Portland, Ore., and was taking a shower in the house when the woman who lived there returned about 7 p.m. Monday, according to police.
Chapek leaped into the bathroom, locked the door and called 911. “I just broke into a house and the owners came home…I think they have guns,” he told the operator according to the 911 audio tapes.
He goes on to tell the operator that he has no idea where he is.
“I’m up in the hills,” he says.
When asked what his name is, he grows quiet, saying the homeowners can hear him. The homeowner, Hilary Mackenzie, can be heard confronting Chapek. Her two German Shepherds can be heard barking during the call.
Mackenzie asks, “Why are you in my house taking a shower?”
Chapek responds, “I broke in. I was kidnapped.”
He tells the homeowner his name. When Mackenzie tells Chapek that she’s calling the police, he says, “I’ve already called them. They’re on the phone right now.”
Mackenzie calls the authorities anyway, standing on the front porch wearing slippers and no coat and even laughing at time about the man who broke into her house.
“I said who the hell are you and he said Timothy something…He said he broke in and he was kidnapped and he was taking a shower,” she tells the 911 operator.
Chapek told police that a group of men had kidnapped him and put him in the bathroom, according to a police report.
Mackenzie and her daughter had returned home fron running an errand at the grocery store Monday night when they heard a man’s voice coming from their first floor bathroom, according to the police report.
The bathroom windows were fogged up and a towel was thrown over the stall of the shower. Chapek still had a wet head from his shower, according to the police report.
Mackenzie, in her own call to 911, said that her daughter first thought there was an intruder.
“My daughter said you know I hear a man in the house, I thought, oh no, don’t be silly,” she told the 911 operator.
Mackenzie told the 911 operator that Chapek was “obviously nuts.”
“We dispatched a number of officers including our K-9 unit and went into the house and found him in the bathroom,” Sgt. Pete Simpson from the Portland Police Department said.
“Based on what I learned last night, maybe there’s some issues with mental health or substance abuse or both,” Simpson said.
It’s unclear if Chapek was intoxicated at the time.
Chapek was booked into the Multnomah County Jail last night and was released today. He will be charged with a misdemeanor for criminal trespassing, police said.
Chapek did not manage to take anything from the home.
“It appeared more as though he wasn’t intent to steal…he just wanted to take a shower,” Simpson said.
Chapek has an extensive criminal record for non-violent crimes, police said. He was arrested as recently as late January.

]]>The woman told responding officers that she had seen a green van leaving the scene. And just to make sure this was the easiest crime ever investigated, she found that her credit card had already been used at a McDonald’s just 50 yards from the gas station.
It seems Ruiz thinks elongated getaways are very much overrated. So after stealing the woman’s wallet, she merely drove across the street to McDonald’s, where she bought some delicious chemical burgers for her two children.
When police arrived at McDonald’s parking lot, they found the suspect green van, along with the the Family Ruiz eating inside of it. Her receipt was matched to the stolen credit. And police soon discovered she’d also stopped to buy gas at a nearby station, then dumped the stolen wallet in the garbage.
She was charged with felony identity theft, misuse of a credit card, and illegally conducting criminal activities.
