So we can understand the quantum dot as a sort of artificial atoms, where the motion of charge carriers is constrained by central hole by the same way, like the motion of electrons is constrained by positive protons in atom nuclei and we can excite these carriers simply by applying of proper voltage pulse to quantum dot structure.
