We have been chosen to set up on 16th Street during LIVE on the Plaza, 2nd Fridays, the months of
April, September, and October.
LIVE is the Plaza District’s monthly artwalk featuring art shows, live music, and local shopping. The association hosts an outdoor artist market, where an audience averaging 2,000 can visit local artist tables. Friends of Bee’s Knees will be able to come out and take a look at some of the new art we have been working on and have the chance to purchase product!

We are super excited that we can finally share it with you! On Saturday, we hosted our very first creative workshop… like… ever! The workshop was focused around creating images to include in a calendar (a possible business venture for anyone interested in art or stationary goods!). You may notice a few seasonal drawings or paintings.
We hosted it at Istvan Gallery in downtown Oklahoma City with the help of our friend and gallery owner, Stephen Kovash. Stephen has been our friend since this summer when he let us host The Big Swanky Art Camp in his beautiful space after our usual studio was hit by a tornado. He’s a great guy, his gallery is super cool and modern, and we feel so lucky to get to partner with him!
Back to this workshop thing. We don’t know about you all, but the idea of gathering a group of 10+ artists and entrepreneurs who have autism or other developmental disabilities, who may have never known each other, and asking them to work together, for three hours, was rather intimidating. Not because there’s anything wrong with any of the people involved or the setting, but because it’s so difficult to know what to expect. The outcomes are limitless!
All that to say, the experience was awesome! We had a total blast and could not be more glad with all of the people who came to participate!
From the looks of how successful the workshop was, there’s a good chance we’re going to start hosting more of these creative workshops in the near future! We’re excited to have potentially stumbled upon a very valuable platform for sharing what we’ve learned about utilizing natural talents for business opportunities.

This fall, we’re doing something we’ve never done before – we’re hosting what are called “creative workshops.” These are workshops centered around working together to create an original product. This experience is an extension of Bee’s Knees and a platform for us to give away some of what we’ve learned about entrepreneurship over the past few years. This is also a great opportunity to make new friends!

Our first creative workshop is going to be centered around creating images for a calendar – you know, the beautiful images that are usually of a majestic landscape, or cute babies, or cuddly cats, or babies in cat costumes, that are featured on the upper half of the calendar. Some of the images created at this workshop will even be featured in the 2014 Bee’s Knees calendar!

Our first workshop will be on Saturday, October 26th from 10AM-1PM at Istvan Gallery (1218 N. Western Ave. OKC, OK 73106) and will cost $15 per person to cover supplies and materials needed.

This summer marked the second annual Big Swanky Art Show and in case you didn’t know, we thought it was absolutely fantastic! It was hosted at Rainbow Fleet in the Paseo Arts District.
We worked in collaboration with 6 other artists from the Oklahoma autism community, as well as 5 creatives from the local art scene who mentored us, over the course of 2 weeks, in creating a whole new original collection comprised of over 20 masterpieces. The experience was amazing.
We worked at Istvan Gallery, a downtown gallery space owned by our dear friend, Stephen Kovash. We felt cooler than cool!
One of our favorite things about this experience was the opportunity to partner with some really special people, and not special because they have autism, or because they are brilliant at what they do, but special because they have the most amazing hearts and were willing to share them with us.

If you haven’t already done so, meet Lindsay. She’s just about the most precious thing that ever stepped out of 1982. She likes Celine Dion, Whitney Houston, Amy Grant, and Leann Rimes. She’s usually blinged out in shiny things like diamonds, gold, or something with sequins.
She just turned 31.
Lindsay had specifically requested a white cake that says “Happy Birthday Lindsay”, but Brandon totally forgot to pick it up! Instead we made birthday celebration treats out of blueberry muffin mix and nutella. It was maybe a little unconventional, but totally resourceful… and yummy.
LINDSAY: Did you know I turned 31?
BRANDON: No way! We’re going to have to throw you a party!
LINDSAY: Actually, I thought it might be better if you gave me a card with some money so I could go buy something.
