Thanks man, this worked like a charm, unlike the ISO image written to an USB stick which my laptop refused to start from. I first thought the firmware upgrade didn’t do anything as it went unusually quick, and starting fumagician a second time after that would still show the old firmware version. But after powering down and back up the firmware is now the latest. So it is mandatory to power cycle.
A really valuable lesson is contained here, too. I didn’t know that initrd files could be unpacked. This will make my life easier. No need to write an USB stick and start from that (if it works at all) and do it all rather off-line. It is so much easier to do it in the regular desktop session.

Great case! Thanx for advice.
But for me it’s not applicable cause EFI Shell won’t start – black screen without prompt 🙁
With any flash boot making tool nothing happens – system doesn’t start booting.

In reply to Donsha. Where did you get stuck or what message did you get? Sometimes you have to upgrade the firmware in steps to get to the newest version.

In reply to Fical Gupta. Oh wow, you had some badluck for sure. I have 5 minisforum boards of which 3 are running 24/7 as my Proxmox cluster nodes pretty much maxed out with 2x NVME and 2 memory stick with 96GB in total, 0 issues. Sad about your bad luck, hopefully your replacements worked well!

I hate these boards, they are the worst thing I have ever had to fiddle with:
Train memory, works with on stick, sometimes with two, forget a samsung 990 Pro pcie drive, it will just crash it, won’t boot, then there will be a fault state, so wait for the thing to clear, nvram to power down, etc etc
It is really chinesium of unreliable grade
I thought it was the bios, so I upgraded it, same issues.
This was with the BD795SE I as I had to return a non functioning BD 790.

Thank you. I was pulling out what little of my hair is left till I saw this. Was able to update my MS-01 to UEFI 1.27.
