]]>The 18-hole tournament will begin with a shotgun start at 10:30 AM, and Miller says they have plenty of spots available.
Registration for the golf event is $500 per team, and that includes your cart, lunch, a tournament T-shirt and swag bag. Each golfer will also have a chance to win a new car from Kemna’s if they can register a hole-in-one. A silent auction will run throughout the day, with a live auction set to begin around 6 PM. Miller says they have several interesting items on the auction that will be up for bid, plus a couple of raffle items you can purchase tickets to win.

All of the money raised will go to the Kevin Cram Memorial Scholarship, which is intended for Kossuth County students interested in pursuing a degree in an agriculture-related field. ]]>LeAnn Blanchard says data centers aren’t a good tool to create economic development and growth.
Garner city councilman Darrell Schumacher was one of the few who spoke in favor of the rezoning during the public hearing. He says Hancock County needs the development a data center would bring.
Schumacher cited an article in the publication Farm Journal that showed electric use by data centers in 2023 was four-percent, while projections for 2030 show it at nine-percent.
A limited liability corporation called MCNI asked the county to rezone some 724 acres of Concord Township from agricultural to industrial for the potential development of a data center. The unanimous decision by the Planning & Zoning Commission can be appealed by MCNI to the county’s Board of Adjustment. A company representative said they likely would appeal.

]]>Naig has been Iowa’s Ag Secretary since March of 2018. His opponent in this year’s election is Democrat Chris Jones, who has called the race a referendum on water quality.
Naig says the state approach to water quality issues should be science based.
Naig says 2018 was the first time Iowa lawmakers identified a dedicated funding source for water quality initiatives, but it wasn’t ramped until 2021 and 2022.
Naig says that program is providing grants to farmers in 28 counties for restoring pastures and he’d like to take the effort statewide to build up Iowa’s cattle herd. Naig made his comments during his “Keep Iowa Growing” tour, which he kicked off Tuesday with stops in Palo Alto and Kossuth counties.

]]>Anderson says county officials will meet later this month to design the document for bidders seeking to run an ambulance service funded by the new levy, which is projected to raise nearly one MILLION dollars a year.
Currently, 21 counties in Iowa have approved EMS levies to boost emergency response times in rural areas. Voters in Kossuth County passed a levy to fund EMS service in 2022.
