John Woodard

Adjunct Lecturer
in Real Estate Development

John Woodard serves as Director of Development and Asset Management for Stirling Properties, working dually from the company’s New Orleans and Covington offices.

He leads various development and redevelopment projects as well as asset management for many of Stirling’s Southshore properties, including the Pan-American Life Center, Mid-City Market, and Offices at Mid-City. In addition, he is responsible for new business development and government relations specifically focused on the New Orleans market.

Woodard previously held the role of Development Manager where he was responsible for managing and assisting with all phases of Stirling Properties’ development and redevelopment processes, working in multiple capacities to support projects from the pre-development phase through stabilization. His duties include project analysis and due diligence, leasing and construction coordination, new business development, and government relations.

He has led several notable company projects, including the development of the Ochsner Kidney Care facilities in Jefferson, Metairie, Algiers, and Marrero and ongoing single-family build-to-rent projects across Louisiana. Over the past year, John has also been involved with the asset management of over 1,500,000 square feet of retail, medical, office and multifamily properties in Stirling Properties’ portfolio.

John is a graduate of the A.B. Freeman School of Business at Tulane University with an MBA in Finance and Real Estate. Prior to Tulane, he worked as an aide to Congressman Steve Scalise in Washington, D.C., and was later appointed by the President to serve as White House Liaison and Special Advisor at the U.S. Small Business Administration.

A Covington native, John graduated with a B.S. in Finance from LSU, where he also served as LSU Student Body President. He is an adjunct lecturer at the Tulane School of Architecture and member of the Urban Land Institute (ULI) Louisiana, ICSC, National WWII Museum Young Benefactors, LSU Young Alumni Council, LSU Greek Life Alumni Advisory Board, and Star and Crescent Foundation of Louisiana.

Ira Concepcion

Visiting Assistant Professor in Architecture

Ira Concepcion, AIA, WELL AP, is an architect, educator, and founder whose work sits at the intersection of architecture, technology, and human well-being. He received his Bachelor of Business Administration in Entrepreneurship from the University of Houston in 2008 and his Master of Architecture from Tulane University in 2019. Between his educational pursuits, Ira worked in the construction industry for seven years while living in Metro Manila, Philippines, where his interest in architecture’s capacity to support people beyond basic function first began to take shape.

As Principal of Senso Architects, Ira leads a research-driven design practice focused on architecture, sensory design, and the lived experience of space. His architectural practice draws from research in environmental psychology, neuroscience, chronobiology, and human perception to explore how buildings can be designed in closer relation to the body, the senses, and daily life. This inquiry guides Senso Architects as both a design practice and a testing ground for how architecture can better support the people who inhabit it.

Ira is also Research Director of Senso Labs, where he develops AI-enabled tools and workflows for architectural practice and education. His work with AI focuses on bridging the gap between conceiving and conveying architectural ideas, particularly where design processes are limited by technical skill, specialized knowledge, or access to advanced tools. His current research explores how AI can help architects navigate legal and regulatory constraints, conduct design studies with greater accessibility, and collaborate more effectively across the life of a project.

In 2025, Ira published “Designing with Artificial Intelligence: Integrating AI as a Collaborative Partner” in the proceedings of the National Conference on the Beginning Design Student. The paper reflects his broader interest in how AI is reshaping architectural research, design authorship, communication, and pedagogy.

At Tulane, Ira teaches architecture core studios and works with students as they develop foundational design skills, methods of inquiry, and architectural judgment. His teaching explores the role of AI in architectural research and design, with an emphasis on helping students use emerging tools to think more clearly, develop stronger narratives, and connect evidence to architectural outcomes.

Hugh Jackson

Adjunct Lecturer in Architecture

Hugh Jackson is a rising designer, builder, and educator living in New Orleans. He is co-teaching the URBANbuild Research Studio.

Hugh originates from Charlottesville, Virginia where he gained his initial building experience by experimenting with various apprenticeships.

Hands-on experience from building trades including fabrication, plumbing, and HVAC would later temper the formal design skills acquired from his undergraduate education.

In his time attending Tulane School of Architecture, Hugh’s student work followed a common focus of sustainability and resilience. These qualities transcend a variety of scales across his work, from rethinking vast urban infrastructures to designing energy efficient single-family schemes.

This work would culminate in Hugh’s thesis, a cross-disciplinary collaboration with Tulane’s School of Engineering to design a scheme for a net zero building. In 2022 their project was awarded 3rd place in ASHRAE’s annual competition.
Since graduating, Hugh has collaborated with BILD, a New Orleans design/build
firm. Here, Hugh has honed his skills and applied his talents to award-winning
projects in the residential market.”

Sergio is a registered Architect in the State of Victoria, Australia and Madrid, Spain. He completed a Master's Degree in Architecture with Honors by the Madrid Polytechnic (Spain) in 2005, having been involved since then in professional and academic roles, such as a lecturer in Interior Design at the Madrid Polytechnic and Communications and Visual tutor at Monash University in Melbourne.

Sergio Alvarez established his Melbourne practice, Sergio Alvarez Architecture, in 2019. Engaged in projects large and small, the studio has a particular interest in delivering high-quality, affordable architecture and believes that good design should be available to all.

Prior to establishing his practice, Sergio spent several years working with multi-award winning, design-focused practices in both Melbourne (Australia) and Europe (Spain and Belgium). With experience in a wide range of projects including high quality residential, commercial, social housing retail and urban design, Sergio brings extensive knowledge and expertise to each new project. Sergio's research interests include affordable housing, collective housing, green building design, and sustainable planning.

Kelly J. Tierney

Visiting Assistant Professor in Design

Kelly J. Tierney is a strategic designer, artist and strategist. She creates meaningful participatory experiences using serious play and transdisciplinary approaches to promote generosity, solidarity, economic justice, and re-thinking the American Dream. She uses methods from social science, performance, service design, and game design to create deceptively simply interactions that are whimsical, unexpected, and at times transformational.

As an instructor she aims to help her students follow their discomfort, embrace differences as strengths, and keep asking better questions. She creates a playful class environment by bringing together fun and contemplative tools, methods, and tactics from a wide range of disciplines including theater arts, philosophy and game design.

She has over two decades of experience creating values-focused visions of the future, utilizing systems thinking and collaborative storytelling. She's led magical flash mobs on secret tours, created life changing self-discovery tools, designed games for cultural change, and helped reimagined healthcare into what is now known as Obama Care.

She began her design career as an industrial designer creating future concepts for Daimler Chrysler, Nike and IBM Research - acquiring several mechanical and design patents, and winning two iF (International Forum) design awards. And her work was featured in the book: Experience Design Concepts and Case Studies, by Bloomsbury Publishing

She has an MFA in Transdisciplinary Design from the New School's Parsons School of Design, in New York, NY, and a double major BFA in Fine Arts and Industrial Design - Transportation from The College for Creative Studies in Detroit, MI.

Marion Leigh Forbes

Adjunct Lecturer in Design

Marion Forbes is a designer, producer, writer, and director living and working in New Orleans, Louisiana. After receiving her Bachelor of Architecture in 2014, Marion worked for over eight years as an architectural designer in Tennessee, Finland, Connecticut, and Louisiana before returning to school to study film production in New Orleans.

Marion takes an interdisciplinary approach to filmmaking and design - drawing from experience as a musician, printmaker, weaver, and longtime film lover, she believes that design thinking occurs at all scales. Her ongoing design practice centers on sensory perception and the built environment - how individuals engage with space, form, and objects over time. In film, Marion's stories center around the lives of complicated people struggling with change - the interstitial spaces between major chapters in one's life.

Marion's design work can be seen at the New Orleans Museum of Art Auditorium and Cafe with Eskew Dumez Ripple, The American Eagle Outfitters Flagship Store in San Francisco, and Firehouse 12 Residence in New Haven, Connecticut both with Gray Organschi Architecture.

Marion's first short film, Timbre, was a Student Academy Award Semi-Finalist in 2021, and two of her previous short films are now streaming on the independent streaming platform, iNDIEFLIX.

Bruce White

Adjunct Lecturer in Architecture

Bruce is an architectural designer and educator interested in exploring the notion of authenticity in contemporary built environments. He believes history, nature, and culture create frameworks from which the most authentic and beautiful designs emerge. He puts these ideas into practice while working in the New Orleans studio of Trahan Architects.

Bruce grew up in the Rocky Mountains, has worked and studied in Asian megalopolises, and spent time living in the Hawaiian Islands. His experience living in some of the world's most beautiful natural landscapes and densest built environments has helped to formulate his perspective that thoughtful architecture is vital to meeting the needs of humanity while still respecting nature.

Jonathan Tate

Professor of Practice in Architecture

Jonathan Tate is principal of OJT (Office of Jonathan Tate), an architecture and urban design practice in New Orleans. The office engages in numerous design-related activities, including applied research, opportunistic planning, strategic development and conventional architectural practice. Their work has received numerous awards, including National AIA Housing Award and the National AIA Honor Award in Architecture. The office has been recognized as a 2017 Emerging Voices by the Architectural League of New York, a Next Progressive by Architect Magazine and a 2018 finalist for the international Architecture Review Emerging Architect Award. Tate is the recipient of the 2020 Award in Architecture from the American Academy of Arts and Letters.

Tyler Antrup

Visiting Assistant Professor in Real Estate Development

Tyler Antrup is an urban planner, designer, climate activist, and educator. He currently serves as a Visiting Assistant Professor at Tulane University’s School of Architecture. His teaching focuses on sustainable real estate development, urban planning and design, climate adaptation, green stormwater infrastructure planning and design, and issues of equity and racial disparity in urban development. He also currently serves as the District D representative on the Sewerage and Water Board of New Orleans. He previously served as the Director of Planning and Strategy for the Sewerage and Water Board of New Orleans where he led strategic and system planning. He has a decade of experience in sustainable urban water management, working mostly in New Orleans to implement green infrastructure solutions to flooding. Prior work included serving as the Urban Water Program Manager with the City of New Orleans’ Office of Resilience and Sustainability, and as a planner with the City Planning Commission and GCR Inc (now Civix). His work has included development and implementation of New Orleans’ first stormwater code, work on plans such as the New Orleans Main Street Resilience Plan, HousingNOLA, and authoring the Economic Benefits section of the Greater New Orleans Urban Water Plan. He holds a Master’s degree in Sustainable Real Estate Development from Tulane University, and a Bachelor's degree in Urban Planning and Design from the University of Missouri- Kansas City.

Hailey Mathieu earned her bachelor’s degree in Mass Communications from Louisiana State University.
