Services will focus within the terminal building alongside other on-site buildings, maintaining high standards for the forecasted 14.5 million passengers that will travel through BHX during 2026.
Churchill’s win was driven by its deep understanding of the airport’s operational needs and transformation plans. Its approach replaces static cleaning schedules with a flexible, data-led model. Using footfall sensors, customer feedback and real-time reporting, teams will be deployed based on demand, ensuring consistent standards across all areas.

]]>The contract covers the internal cleaning of the iconic venue in Gateshead, on the banks of the River Tyne. Operating as a charity and recently marking its 21st anniversary, the building requires a highly flexible schedule that aligns with the needs of performances and daily operations.
A team of 15 Churchill operatives is responsible for maintaining the interior fabric of the building, delivering a service tailored to its unique layout. A dedicated management structure supports the contract, with regular site visits and ongoing performance management.
The mobilisation period was recently completed, delivering operational improvements across the contract. The team introduced innovative solutions and smart working practices that better match resources to how the building is used day to day, focusing on active spaces while retaining the flexibility to scale up support around performances and major events.

]]>The new partnership commenced in April. Churchill will deliver a comprehensive suite of services across both landside and airside environments within the airport, including washrooms, gates, arrivals and departures areas. Services will include general cleaning, washroom hygiene, pest control, and window cleaning.
A team of 30 staff will be based on site, each having completed rigorous airside clearance protocols, including full DBS checks, five-year work history verification, airside security and permit-to-work training. This ensures compliance with the airport’s stringent operational standards.
Innovation played a significant role in Churchill’s successful bid. The company will introduce feedback devices in washrooms, real-time data from people counters, and QR codes that allow passengers to leave voice notes on cleanliness. The QR codes include multilingual functionality that automatically translates into English, making it easy for passengers of any nationality to share feedback.
Churchill’s commitment to quality and its track record of operational excellence in specialist environments – including ports, railways, subways and buses – also helped it stand out from the competition.

]]>Merseyrail was impressed by Churchill’s proposed new solutions to improve service delivery and its extensive experience with other rail clients, including Nexus, Network Rail High Speed, Eurostar, GTR, Southeastern, Grand Central Rail and British Pullman.
Churchill has also invested in innovation, including a specially fitted out van with the latest reach and wash system technology and jet washing. The van will be used across stations to carry out planned periodic upkeep and dispatched for reactive situations when needed.
Approximately 50 cleaning operatives will clean the stations, including washrooms and windows, throughout the Liverpool City region. This will help Merseyrail provide a comfortable travel experience for the 90,000 passengers passing through on an average weekday, including in Liverpool Central station, one of the busiest outside of London.
Services will be delivered day and night for all stations, including overground and underground, by a combination of static, roaming and mobile cleaning operatives.

Cleaning firm Churchill has secured a three-year contract with grade A office space providers, Harbour Exchange, following a tender process.
Based in the prestigious South Quay area of London, Harbour Exchange is a prominent commercial campus comprising of 10 modern buildings that feature state-of-the-art facilities and flexible office spaces to accommodate a range of businesses. Churchill will provide services to three areas: HX1 and HX2 towers and Harbour Exchange Square Waterside Campus.
One of the key reasons for Churchill’s win was its commitment to its people, best demonstrated by its Employee-owned Trust status. Harbour Exchange was also impressed by Churchill’s accredited training and development programmes to its cleaning operatives. Another contributing factor was how Churchill’s teams become part of the community in the buildings they work in – evidenced in other contracts in the Canary Wharf area.
Starting in October 2024, Churchill will provide both horizontal and vertical cleaning, washroom services, pest control, and planned preventative maintenance. A team of 13 cleaners and support staff will work on this project. Churchill’s account director, Charles Walden, will be leading the contract, supported by a dedicated account manager who has been working with Harbour Exchange for the past seven years.

]]>Churchill is now providing comprehensive cleaning services for the 1m sq ft shopping centre which is located in the Arena Quarter in the heart of Leeds. The centre, which was originally built in the 1960s, has seen continuous investment and remains one of the city’s leading shopping and entertainment destinations.
Twenty Churchill cleaning colleagues now provide day and night cleaning across the mixed-use office and public areas. Churchill was chosen for its high-quality services and emphasis on sustainable solutions including the removal of single use plastics and sustainably sourced uniforms which help further lower the centre’s carbon footprint.

These services will be delivered across 250 locations in Yorkshire, including a mixture of sheltered and general housing buildings. Churchill’s bespoke monitoring and reporting system, Mo:dus has previously demonstrated its capabilities in the housing sector and was a key determinant in winning the contract.
Social Value
Churchill was chosen in the tender process not only for its expertise in cleaning, but also for its social values. Churchill has pledged £20k over the contract’s lifetime to the Target Hardening funding pot for Yorkshire Housing residents. This funding will provide safeguarding to Yorkshire Housing customers who have experienced any form of domestic abuse. Safety Planning is also carried out in any affected homes to keep residents and children safe, such as changing existing locks or fitting door chains and window locks. This discourages abusers from returning.
Churchill’s pledge as part of the Employers Domestic Abuse Covenant means that this partnership will be built not only on a service basis but also on a social aim – to help more people in domestic abuse situations get the help they need through housing and employment.

The contract has more than 350 staff, including management and a dedicated helpdesk that will oversee the cleaning operation in and out of hours, seven days a week.
The MPS is the largest police force in the UK. Key objectives of the Met Police are to cut crime and increase public confidence whilst reducing costs, and the service continues to look for more innovative ways to help meet its targets.
The MPS wanted to make a change in its approach to cleaning and Churchill was successful in the tender process for a number of reasons. Its local presence and commitment to the communities it works in is essential in a city where each borough is so distinct from the next.
Churchill’s technology platforms were another key reason for the contract win. Technology is a core pillar of PRISM, Churchill’s workplace hygiene programme. When combined with the specialist cleaning services delivered by operatives and backed up by scientific foundations, PRISM will deliver results and efficiencies across the MPS portfolio.
Environments for the cleaning teams include but are not limited to HQ, offices, custody suites, kennels, and stables. Specialist and reactive cleaning teams will also be deployed when necessary to areas such as forensic tents and operational vehicles.
