Nerd Boss? Nerd Boss. And that other stuff, as mentioned in the headline. Space Goat has a nice selection of stuff set for their booth at SDCC this week.

Coast to coast Space Goat

Space Goat might not be the biggest company out there in comic book land, but they’re making waves. They’ve got massive properties like Evil Dead II and Terminator under their belt, and they’re making good use of them.

A line of Evil Dead II comics are already out there, and a board game for both it and Terminator are on the way. Also just signed last year, horror classic The Howling will be getting a comic as well. So there’s lots to be excited about with the company.

At Comic Con this week, they’ll have representative of all of the above avail be at their booth (#1707), including pre-orders for both board games. Oh, and make sure you check out the Evil Dead coloring book. That’s bound to be all kinds of interesting- and comes with a digital download for a graphic novel. So a little extra value there too.

Then there’s the Nerd Boss stuff, which I find fascinating for some reason. Check out that and everything else in the gallery below.

Evil Dead 2 isn’t just the second movie in the resurgent horror franchise, but a whole universe unto itself. And thanks to Space Goat, it’s about to get even bigger.

They’ll swallow your soul

Evil Dead 2 isn’t my favorite Evil Dead installment. That honor probably goes to either Army of Darkness or Ash vs Evil Dead season 1, but still, it’s hard to argue what a classic it is. Almost as funny as it was horrific, EDII was really a reboot of the first film. And it introduced us to one of the greatest horror heroes of all time – Ash.

And the folks at Space Goat seem to share in that fan enthusiasm. With a series of comics and a board game already out the door, they’re proving it. All things Evil Dead are about to blow up big time though, thanks a bunch of new products.

“For 30 years this year, Evil Dead 2 fans have shown their thirst for quality Evil Dead products know no bounds,” said publisher Shon Bury. “Fortunately for them, we have the same thirst.”

The Evil Dead 2 themed coloring book will be unveiled at Emerald City ComiCon in March 2017.

“The team at Space Goat has a knack for finding talented writers and artists that can pay tribute to the iconic Evil Dead 2 brand” said Director of Business Development Stephanie Kupperman. “We are thrilled to continue to work with them and have them bring new stories to fans.”

So what’s coming up?

For starters, we’re getting Evil Dead 2 comics for another three years. So there’s that. The new run will be starting off with a bang too, with a four issue mini-series titled Evil Dead 2: Doppleganger Wars.

The series smashes Ash headlong into a whole army of mirror-duplicates of himself. And if that doesn’t instantly remind you of a few things from the film/TV series, well you’re just not a fan. As I mentioned though, this is just the start.

2017 will also bring an adult coloring book, an art book, and a very cool sounding hardcover omnibus. That last one will be based off of the Evil Dead 2 comics that Space Goat has already brought to market. Look for it in the last half of this year, along with special “anniversary editions” of already released trade paperbacks.

Have a peek below at some of the art from Doppleganger Wars, and then rev that chainsaw – 2017 is gonna be a big year for EDII fans.

Waiting patiently for Space Goat’s Terminator board game? Well you’re in luck as it’s live right now on Kickstarter, and awaiting your backing.

You’re Terminated

Evil Dead II hasn’t shipped yet, but Space Goat has yet another fantastic-looking board game on Kickstarter. If you’ve been following along with our coverage, then you know to expect classic Terminator action in this one. And by that, I mean there isn’t a god ‘bot to be found.

“We’re bringing 1984 back. The only movie we care about is the original. We love retro. We want to explore the beginning.” Space Goat President Shon Bury said. “Which is why for this game, we’re focusing on what hardcore Terminator fans love about the original movie. “

I happen to love T2, but there’s nothing quite like the streamlined lore of the original. Robots? They’re the bad guys, and there are plenty of them in the Terminator board game. Yes, you’ll find T-800s, but you’ll also encounter some fresh designs, all of which are faithful to the original film. I’m partial to the zombie-like T-500 personally.

Have a look:

As for play, that sounds awesome too. The title plays asymmetrically, in both 1984 and 2029. Players will have to face off against Terminators in both eras at the same time. Pretty slick, and there’s a nice little Kickstarter deal too.

If you back the game now, you can go for the core version for $60, but then there’s the $80 Termination Box as well. That version includes a “box of accessories and miniatures for the game available for a discount only during the Kickstarter campaign”.

There is no fate but what we make, and no board game either. So if you’re into backing this bad boy, click right here.

Looking forward to Space Goat’s Terminator board game? Then you’ll be happy to know that the game’s Kickstarter will be going live in just a few days.

I’ll be back

Important note: This game isn’t based on T2, or the Terminator timeline(s) that came afterwards. So, what you’ll find here is a definitively not-so-nice version of Arnold’s T-800. A killer through and through, the original Terminator was sent back in time to eliminate Sarah Conner. Of course, she’s the mother of future human resistance leader John Conner.

Yep, this is the classic Terminator that Space Goat has based it’s tabletop title on. And honestly, that’s a good thing. While the first film isn’t as widely loved as T2 (well, for everyone I know anyway), it’s a film that’s not been as widely explored either. So it’s especially neat to get something interactive out of it.

“Terminator isn’t just pop culture; it’s culture,” said Publisher Shon Bury. “It’s immense,” he continued. “To do a property of this magnitude, so hot on the heels of our Evil Dead 2 board game Kickstarter, we had to bring in the best help we could find. There is no better help than the guys who made the Buffy game, Lynnvander.”

Branching into board game design from production in the film industry, Lynnvander enters 2017 with The Terminator™, Galaxy Quest, Dragon Ball Z, and Cowboy Bebop. “We’re especially excited for Terminator because of the fan base and the unique game we’ve designed with Space Goat,” commented designer Thomas Gofton. “They’re a creative and experience-driven, good-hearted company. That fits Lynnvander’s Canadian motto.”

Originally announced a few months ago, this game is just about ready to head to Kickstarter, and it’s looking AND sounding pretty freaking great.

While you’ll be able to get a peek at some of the miniatures in the gallery below, the game itself sounds like it’ll be a really interesting play. Sessions will run asymmetrically across two time periods, and on two boards. So you’ll play in both 1984 and 2029, before and after the legendary Judgement Day when rogue AI Skynet first decimated the globe.

In both eras, one player will take control of the bad guys as a kind of Dungeon Master. Yes, that means you’ll get t command “Hunter Killer flying machines, Terminator Endoskeletons, and new robots based on the classic 80’s aesthetic”. Everybody else? They’ll play the resistance in both eras, which I assume means human troops and Sarh Conner/Kyle Reese. Cool stuff.

For the Kickstarter edition of the game, there’s a special version called The Termination Box. The “box of accessories and miniatures” is on discount for the campaign. And if you pledged the Evil Dead II KS, also from Space Goat, then you know that there are probably few cool little bonuses in there, that you won’t find in the eventual retail copy.

Ready to pledge? Then you’ll want to mark February 15th on your calendar, as that’s the magic date that the Kickstarter goes live.

One of the greatest werewolf flicks of all time is about to go big at Space Goat Productions. Get ready for The Howling as both a comic and a tabletop game.

Wolves in space

Wow has Space Goat been making some moves as of late. Not only does the company publish the Evil Dead 2 comic, but they also bring a series of books called Eternal Descent to market. Those have been heating up with some excellent entries that we’ve been reviewing right here on BG.

And they’ve been busy outside the realm of comics too, with a fresh series of tabletop games. Their latest includes Evil Dead, with a game that smashed through Kickstarter, garnering huge fan support. Now though, the company is moving in a somewhat less demonic, but furrier direction.

The Howling is a name that most horror fans should know well. First released in 1982, the movie has become a classic, and one of the best loved werewolf films of all time. With this latest announcement, you’ll be able to both read and play in this terrifying -and largely unexplored- fiction.

Obsessive creatives

“Two-time New York Times best-selling author & former Blizzard Entertainment lead writer” Micky Neilson will be the creative force behind Space Goat’s take on the property for the comic. Said Neilson, “I can’t even tell you how excited I am to write The Howling comic book! I saw the movie when I was seventeen. It opened an entirely new window into werewolf mythology and left a lifelong impression that influences me to this day,” said Micky Neilson. “If I could choose any license to work on, The Howling is right there at the top of the list. It still stands as my favorite all-time werewolf film. I’ve been obsessed with werewolves ever since the first time I saw it.”

For their part, the man behind Space Goat itself is pretty pumped as well. It’s understandable. It’d be kind of hard not to be with the chance to grow and fill out a universe like The Howling’s.

“I can’t even tell you how excited I am to write The Howling comic book!

So, what about the art? Space Goat is thinking you’ll dig the name behind that as well, I’m sure. A proven talent, Jason Johnson has worked on books like Gen 13, Wetworks, and even Knight Rider. And for the record, he’s pretty excited about the project too.

“I have always had a major fascination with werewolves!” said Jason Johnson. “They were by far the most fearsome of monsters. I will bring this story to life like only a true werewolf connoisseur can. I am also pleased to work with the Shon and the amazing team at Space Goat. They are building something truly special.”

A miniseries that could be huge

Right now, The Howling is scheduled to be a four issue miniseries. I have the believe though, that it could easily be more. If the license can be extended, this could be an excellent chance to out an ongoing (or series of minis anyway) werewolf book out there.

In case you hadn’t noticed, there really are none right now. A whole mess of iconic monsters feature into several books across multiple publishers, but there are really no werewolves to be found. The Howling certainly could change all that. And right now, it seems poised to be a horror gem.

Check out The Howling: Revenge of the Werewolf Queen, a four part miniseries, this coming Summer. As for the board game, details are still under wraps, and will be released at a “later date”.

Hot on the heels of their Evil Dead 2 Kickstarter, comes word that Space Goat’s next tabletop effort will take gamers into the war-torn, apocalyptic future of Terminator.

The Terminator: The Official Board Game (Teaser) from Space Goat Productions on Vimeo.

You’re terminated

Board games have, you’re probably well aware, made a monster comeback as of late. Tabletop anything seems just about as popular as it’s ever been, and Space Goat publishing has made the most of it. Not a name that you’d typically associate with the art form, the comic book publisher recently concluded a very successful Kickstarter campaign.

That effort was for their Evil Dead 2 game, which looks pretty terrific (I backed it). This next release though, is something all together different. The Terminator: The Official Board Game will be hitting Kickstarter in February, 2017 and should be another title to watch.

“We’re bringing 1984 back. The only movie we care about is the original. We love retro. We want to explore the beginning.” Space Goat President Shon Bury said. “Which is why for this game, we’re focusing on what hardcore Terminator fans love about the original movie.”

Two boards of terror

The company is touting strategy and action for the game, which will run asymmetrically across two boards. Two boards?! Yep, games of Space Goat’s Terminator will play out in both 1984 (the year of the original film) and 2029, which is the year that Kyle Reese and the Terminator originally travelled from.

One player will essentially be the Dungeon Master, and run the forces of Skynet’s horrific future. Yes, you can expect to see Terminators, but also Hunter Killers, and new bots that will be created just for the game (but will keep with he aesthetic). The opposing side, of course, will be the human resistance.

Just how this will all play and how the dual board setup will function is a mystery as of now. But as a fan of the property, I’m interested. Click here for more info.

“At its robotic heart, The Terminator™ is a raw and intense chase scene,” Evil Dead 2 Board Game Designer Taylor Smith said. “Combine that with a reactive time travel mechanic and you get a super fun mash-up of action and strategy.”
