If all notaries refused the signing companies would have to pay a decent fee. ALWAYS get the fee amount in writing before you do the signing even if you have to wait for the proof and be late for the signing. When companies don’t pay call the title company and/or lender and tell them that the signing company is not paying the notaries. Also contact you state attorney general to ask that the non-paying company not allowed to do business in you state.
I had a bad experience with Signature Closers. Unfortunately I didn’t notice the initial lines on the note. In Michigan it is rare to have initial lines on the Note. I went back to the borrowers and had them resign and initial the note and faxed it to Signature Closers. Because I was going to be gone all day the next day I put the Note in the regular mail and then SC called and wanted me to go back again and get it resigned even though they should be getting the one I sent by mail. Because I has just arrived at a closing a long way from the borrowers I couldn’t make it back to their house and get it out that evening. Supposedly they sent out another notary and refused to pay me anything for the original trip. I understand that I made a mistake but I should have been paid something for the original signing. The only problem was that the note was not initialed. I told them to take me off their notary list.
