CMA CGM has announced a series of freight rate and surcharge changes across several trades, effective 1 October 2026.

The measures include new Freight All Kinds (FAK) rates from the East Coast of South America. The carrier will also introduce Rate Restoration Initiatives (RRI) and Peak Season Surcharges (PSS) on other trades.

New FAK rates from East Coast South America

CMA CGM will apply new FAK rates from Brazil, excluding Northeast Brazil, as well as Argentina, Uruguay and Paraguay.

The rates cover dry cargo moving to North Europe, the Mediterranean, Black Sea, Adriatic, North Africa, Middle East and Red Sea.

The rates include basic freight, bunker-related surcharges, EU ETS and Low Sulphur Surcharge (LSS).

However, terminal handling charges and safety and security-related surcharges may apply. Other local and contingency charges may also be added.

Rate restoration for US and Canada trades

The French carrier will also introduce updated Rate Restoration Initiatives from the West Mediterranean.

For cargo from West Mediterranean ports and Morocco to the United States, CMA CGM will apply an RRI of US$250 per 20-foot container and US$500 per 40-foot, 40-foot high-cube and 45-foot container.

The measure applies to all cargo except out-of-gauge shipments.

CMA CGM will apply the same amounts from West Mediterranean ports to Canada. The Canadian scope includes Italy, Mediterranean Spain and Vigo, and France.

Both measures take effect on 1 October.

PSS introduced on Latin American trades

CMA CGM will also apply new Peak Season Surcharges from Europe and the Mediterranean to several Latin American markets.

From North Europe, including Scandinavia and the Baltic, to the West Coast of South America, the PSS will be €300 or US$350 per container.

From the East Mediterranean, Adriatic and Black Sea, CMA CGM will charge US$300 per container.

This applies to several destinations, including the West Coast of South America, Central America, the Caribbean and Mexico’s West Coast.

From the West Mediterranean, the PSS will be €200 or US$230 per container for the specified destinations.

The PSS measures apply to dry cargo under quarterly or shorter-term deals from 1 October until further notice.

MSC has announced new Freight All Kinds (FAK) rates from the Far East to Sub-Saharan Africa and the Indian Ocean.

The rates will apply from 1 September to 14 September 2026. The origin scope covers all Far East ports, including ports in Japan, Korea and Southeast Asia.

New MSC FAK rates

All amounts are in US dollars.

The announced FAK rates remain subject to all applicable surcharges and local charges at both origin and destination.

MSC has announced new Freight All Kinds rates applicable from all Far East ports, including Japan, Korea and Southeast Asia, to Northern European, Mediterranean and Black Sea destinations.

The rates take effect from June 1, 2026 until further notice, but not beyond June 14, 2026.

Rates are quoted per 20-foot and 40-foot container respectively. North Europe is priced at US$ 2,820 and USD 4,700. West Mediterranean and Adriatic are both set at US$ 3,750 and US% 5,500. East Mediterranean is priced at US$ 3,800 and US$ 5,400, while Black Sea rates stand at US$ 3,850 and US$ 5,500.

North African destinations carry higher rates, reflecting their outport status.

Algeria is priced at US$ 5,650 and US$ 7,900, Tunisia at US$ 5,450 and US$ 7,500, Libya at US$ 5,350 and US$ 7,200, and Morocco, Casablanca, at US$ 4,550 and US$ 6,500.
