A capsule wardrobe is a limited amount of clothing pieces that can easily be paired together to create a number of different outfits! The benefits of this method include saving money on unneeded clothing, freeing up space in your closet, and taking less time to decide what to wear each day!

It can be a bit intimidating to start a capsule wardrobe, which is why I am going to help by giving you 5 basic steps to follow when deciding what to keep and what to get rid of! Continue below for the steps:

**Before we begin with the 5 steps, be sure to pull everything out of your closets & drawers. As you follow the guide, create piles of what is worth keeping and what needs to go!

Step 01: Decide which color you want as your base. This is going to be the color you wear most often, so you’ll want to be sure it pairs well with the neutral essentials and accent colors you choose in steps 2 & 3.

Step 02: Pick out your basic essentials! You’ll want to make sure these are neutral pieces that don’t ever go out of style. Examples include a basic tee, button up, tank top, sweater, etc. The color of these pieces should be solid black, navy, cream, white, gray, or brown!

Step 03: Adding accent colors is a great way to add some fun to your wardrobe! When choosing these, you’ll want to answer the following questions:

Is this a color I wear a lot already?

Does it fit my personal style?

Is this a color I can wear every day?

Does this pair well with my other capsule clothing?

Step 04: Patterns and layers are important for every capsule wardrobe; they can take a basic look & really spice it! Some commonly loved patterns are stripes, florals, plaids, etc.

Layering pieces are also a great way to add texture to your look. If it’s going to be a bit cooler, a jacket, blazer, or coat that fits your color scheme can be a great addition to any outfit!

Step 5: Now that you have your clothing picked, it’s time to think about shoes and accessories! I suggest having 1-3 pairs of shoes in your base color, neutral color, and accent color. It’s important that you decide shoes that fit your lifestyle; heels for work, boots for the snow, sneakers for the gym, sandals for summer, etc.

Accessories are also going to different a bit based on personal preference, but I suggest having 1-3 statement jewelry pieces (bracelets, necklaces, rings, earrings, etc.) You can also add hats, scarves, and whatever else fits your style!

Within the last (almost two) years of quarantine, one of the most notable mantras that stuck with me was to treat myself. Whenever and however I can, to take time away from my husband, my baby girl Roman, and my business and indulge!

Welcome back to Blush & Camo! I’ve been getting a ton of questions on my Instagram on how I shop for items on Facebook Marketplace. Over the years I’ve bought a faux sheep skin area rug valued at over $2000 for $100, a dining room set my husband and I flipped into our dream dining room set, super cute area rugs throughout our home saving us hundreds of dollars , and vintage wall decor I couldn’t go to a retailer to find, and a church pew from 1910 that I restored!

But, how do you shop on Facebook Marketplace and what items are the best to shop for on this platform? In this blog post I’m breaking this all down!

First, let’s start with items you’ll find the most success at finding and save you tons of money!

BEST ITEMS TO SHOP ON FACEBOOK MARKETPLACE

RUGS– There is no shortage of supply of area rugs on Facebook Marketplace; and many of these items are lightly used. Many of the rugs I purchased are simply because the seller moved and the rug didn’t fit the space it was originally purchased for.

END TABLES– Say it with me- furniture is expensive, but when you shop on Facebook Marketplace for certain pieces like end tables you’ll find some gems people are selling and save hundreds of dollars.

WALL DECOR– There are all types of wall decor aesthetics sold on Facebook Marketplace, but the most common home decor aesthetic I’ve found for wall decor is if you love the farmhouse/cottage/vintage vibe. There is no shortage of supply of cute wall decor to decorate your home!

ART– From wall decor to paintings Facebook Marketplace has it all!

MIRRORS– There are some AMAZING finds on here! One time I found an Anthropologie Primrose mirror being sold at a fraction of the price!

COFFEE TABLES– Many sellers of coffee tables make these by hand and use this platform to promote their amazing work. Since Facebook Marketplace is where people go for deals these pieces are rarely overpriced! I’ve also found some vintage coffee tables that are beautiful!

BOOKSHELF DECOR– People are always looks to sell knickknacks on this platform and you know the saying “One man’s trash is another man’s bookshelf decor” or something like that!

CHAIRS– From living room to dining room chairs Facebook Marketplace has it all!

HOW TO SHOP FACEBOOK MARKETPLACE

Now that you know what to look for on Facebook Marketplace, here’s how to shop this platform!

I’m going to be super honest and say most people selling on Facebook Marketplace don’t know anything about SEO (search engine optimization). This means when you search for an item you want start broad. For example, if you are looking for a dining room table I would start with very broad and basic searches such as:

• Dining Room Table
• Farmhouse Dining Room Table
• Vintage Dining Room Set
• Dining Room Set

The people selling these items are going to use basic, broad terms to describe the item. The more basic search, the higher the chance the item you are looking for will pop up!

The various times I’ve used Facebook Marketplace the more narrow my search nothing every pops up I’m looking for!

I’m so excited to share our cozy & affordable farmhouse Christmas decor! Christmas is by far my favorite holiday to decorate for and this year I went with a red and white color scheme!

Most of my decor is from Dollar General, Target, and Kirkland’s! I’ve collected it over the years, but thankfully many of these items are brought back each year. I’ve linked the items you can shop underneath each picture!

This life-size letter board is one of my favorite items in my entire house! I love changing out the quotes every couple of weeks. It’s also a great conversation starter when you are hosting during the holidays!

To decorate the tree this year I added handmade bows made from ribbon, ornaments, and some felt garland to give this flocked tree a pop of color and texture!

This dining room set has come a long way from it’s original thrifted origins! You can read my step-by-step tutorial on how I DIY’d this dining room set by clicking here!

One of the most popular questions I get in my DM’s on Instagram is where I got my bed from! I linked my exact one in the widget above! This bed restocks every month so keep your eye out! Once it restocks it usually sells out in the same day!

I wanted to keep my bedding neutral so I could change out the throw pillows each season! This holiday season I’m really loving buffalo plaid so I added a few comfy buffalo plaid and oversized plaid pillows for decor!

I absolutely love how farmhouses in the 1800s and 1900s had fireplaces throughout the home. I wanted to recreate this vibe in my home so I scooped up this mantle and added some peel and stick shiplap behind it!

To recreate pick three warm toned neutrals for your middle finger through pinky finger. Paint your thumb and pinter finger white! If you’re doing an at-home mani and feel intimidated by re-creating the leopard print use a toothpick to apply black dots instead!

$6 PRESS ON NAIL MANI

This mani looks like I paid a fortune and spent quite a bit of time in the nail salon for, but in reality this mani took 10 minutes to apply and under $6! I linked my exact set below!

For those wondering, my press on nails lasted an entire week until I decided to peel them off. They probably would’ve lasted about 9 days without falling off or damage if I would have left them alone!

PUMPKIN SPICE MANI

This company specializes in closet and kitchen cabinetry! Each of their principal designers brings 20-30 years experience in custom home building, manufacturing, cabinet making and custom millwork.

Let me start from the beginning of how this project started!

I first met Kristie, one of the principal designers of Impact Design Resources, while I was hosting a Southern Living event in South Carolina last summer.

Kristie was the designer behind the gorgeous closets in each of these Southern Living homes. I remember walking into the first closet of one of the homes and feeling like a princess. The closet was perfectly designed from ceiling to floor.

We did an Instagram Live together showcasing the closet and how Kristie utilized every square inch of this space to design a dream space for the future homeowner!

I remember leaving the event dreaming of having a closet or space like the one Kristie designed for that home.

Fast forward a year later- Chuck and I just moved into our new home in North Carolina. I knew when we moved into this home that I wanted to create a Cloffice! I’ve been working from home as a full-time blogger for almost two years and never had a space to call my own. I’ve always done my work on the dining room table or a barstool in the kitchen.

I knew my vision for a Cloffice, but I had no idea where to start or how I was going to accomplish finishing this space.

Then, a week after moving into our new home Kristie reached out asking if I would be interested in collaborating together on a space in my home. When I got that email I about fell out of my chair! Kristie and her company create truly magical spaces, and collaborating with her was a dream come true!

THE PLANNING PROCESS

I knew the perfect project for Kristie and her amazing team would be to transform a room in my home into my Cloffice!

We started the planning process by me sending over the measurements of the two walls I wanted to transform into closet space. I also sent over inspiration pictures of how I envisioned the space to look and function.

My inspiration pictures features white, clean closet shelving with a mixture of hanging and shelving space. I also requested lots of space dedicated to shoes since that is my fashion weakness- I can’t get enough shoes!

Other than a few aesthetic preferences and functionality requests I told Kristie and her team to design the space how they saw fit! After all, they are the professionals and I trust them completely.

A week later Kristie sent me over the design drafts and I started crying when I saw them. The closet space looked so beautiful, and I couldn’t believe that I would have this special space in my home designed by her!

I approved the designs right away!

FINAL DESIGN MEETING

Another week went by and Kristie stopped by my home to take final measurements of the walls. She also brought a lot of the fun design pieces to make final decisions on.

Various hanging racks, drawer fronts, and drawer pulls were put in front of me in all different colors.

We decided on matte nickel for the hanging rods. For the drawer fronts I opted for this gorgeous soft pink called “magnolia.” The drawer pulls are a champagne color that bring out the gold in the hanging rods.

After the design meeting everything was set in place! The designs were finalized and the details were picked out. The last step was the actual install of the Cloffice!

INSTALLATION OF THE CLOFFICE

The install of the Cloffice happened so quickly! Her team came over on a Thursday and finished by Saturday morning. Kristie and I also collaborated together on my sweet baby girl’s closet which also got installed at the same time, but that closet is going to be a separate blog post!

Her team was so professional the entire time. They all wore masks and were friendly throughout the entire installation process. Kristie stopped by one of the days to ensure the install was coming along.

CLOFFICE REVEAL

Here is the final reveal of my Cloffice! All of Impact Design Resources hard work and creative vision helped create this dream space. I couldn’t have envisioned a more perfect space to create content!

Welcome back to Blush & Camo! Today I’m sharing my experience with hand-tied hair extensions and answering your questions about them.

WHO IS YOUR HAIRSTYLIST?

I currently live in the Durham/Raleigh North Carolina area and Courtney McLaren Hair is my hairstylist! She’s absolutely amazing and I can’t recommend her enough.

WHAT BRAND OF HAIR EXTENSIONS DID YOU GET?

Courtney recommended I purchase the JZ Hairstyles extensions, so I did! I got one pack of “The Jordan” 20in color and then a half pack of “The Jordan” color. This color sells out really fast, but they are constantly having restocks, so check back every day or so and it will be available.

Once the extensions were put in Courtney did go in and custom color them a bit so they matched perfectly with the hair color I wanted. More about that process later in the blog post!

HOW MANY WEFTS DO YOU HAVE IN?

I have in 9 wefts and 2.5 rows!

HOW LONG DO THE EXTENSIONS TAKE TO PUT IN?

The extensions took about an hour per row or 2.5 hours total.

DID IT HURT GETTING THE EXTENSION PUT IN?

Not! Not at all. In fact, I didn’t really feel much of anything when Courtney was doing her thing and putting them in my hair.

DID THE EXTENSIONS HURT AFTERWARD?

Once the extensions were put in my scalp was a little sensitive after a few hours. This is because the wefts are a little snug at first until your hair grows out a little after a few days.

After day two of having my extensions in my scalp wasn’t sore anymore.

ARE THE EXTENSIONS HEAVY?

The extensions aren’t heavy, but since I went from short hair to long hair I could tell a difference in weight (if that makes sense!). After a few days I didn’t notice this at all.

HOW LONG DOES THE HAIR LAST?

Depending on how well you take care of them the hair will last anywhere from 9-18 months!

HOW LONG DO YOU HAVE TO GET THE EXTENSIONS MOVED UP?

Every 8-12 weeks!

CAN YOU STYLE YOUR HAIR NORMALLY WITH EXTENSIONS?

Yes! I style my hair exactly the same way. You don’t need to change your routine at all!

ARE THEY HARD TO MAINTAIN?

No! Not at all! I wash my hair once a week and use my Sultra curler to get my hair some beachy waves every few days. It’s very minimal upkeep for them. You just want to ensure you brush your hair everyday :).

Chuck and I have read countless books, talked with our friends who are already parents, and I also asked my Instagram community to give their input on what I should pack in my hospital bag.

This post is all the information I’ve complied and narrowed it down to the items I think are the most important.

This is not an all inclusive list, and depending on the mama-to-be your list may look a little different. I hope this list helps you when you are packing for your big day!

MY HOSPITAL BAG

– My Hospital Bag: I opted for a weekender sized bag to fit all the items I will need! I love the monogrammed one I found on Etsy. Amazing quality and comes in a variety of colors!

– Toiletries:

– Copy of our birth plan: I’m not sure how Chuck and I will be feeling in the moment so we want to ensure we have our plan written out so we don’t forget anything! I know that many labor & delivery plans don’t go according to plan, but I’m a huge planner so this is more of a comfort to have it more than anything.

– Toiletries

– Snacks: Many hospitals have no food available at night except vending machine items.

– Reusable water bottle

– Sweatshirt or two: Hospitals can get cold! I’m also told during labor & delivery I might get very hot and want the room on a low temperature!

– Change of clothes

– Pajamas

– Timer or watch: To time contractions

– Reading materials or computer

BABY C’s HOSPITAL BAG

– Clothing for hospital and trip home

– Swaddles

– Announcement Outfit

– Breastfeeding pillow

I was told not to bring diapers because hospitals have an endless supply!

Welcome back to Blush & Camo! I’m so excited to share our DIY cane dresser. Chuck and I took an IKEA Tarva dresser and flipped it into our dream dresser. What do you think?! Let me know in the comments below!

A huge thank you to Kourtni from House on Longwood Lane! She is the amazing blogger who gave me the inspiration to do this IKEA DIY. I followed her directions when it came to stain colors, stain application, and the drawer front cut measurements!

I highly recommend checking out her original post on her IKEA Tarva DIY here because it’s phenomenal!

STEP 1: ORDER AND ASSEMBLE THE DRESSER

With COVID-19 going on IKEA shipping has been a little tricky. If you have an IKEA near you I highly recommend making the trip and picking up the furniture yourself. The dresser is $179 and IKEA wanted to charge me $200 in shipping costs. Um, no thank you. So I went and picked up this dresser as soon as they opened their stores back up!

Here is the exact dresser we picked up!

The assembly took a little bit of time!

STEP 2: MEASURE DRAWER FRONTS

We used Kourtni’s measurements for the drawer fronts which is 2 1/16″ evenly to create a rectangle in the middle of the drawer. Using a ruler or carpenter square and pencil works great to create your lines!

STEP 3: CUT DRAWER FRONTS

Now, it’s time to cut! You’ll need a drill and jigsaw to cut out your drawer fronts. First, you want to drill into each of the four corners so the jigsaw will fit and cut the lines you made.

Chuck and I are fairly new to the DIY world and weren’t familiar with using jigsaw (this is the exact one we have!), so we had our neighbor who is a carpenter help us with the cutting of the drawer fronts.

This step is the most difficult part of the entire DIY, but it’s not impossible :).

STEP 4: SAND THE DRESSER

This is the exact sander Chuck and I used! We sanded the dresser to get a super smooth surface and used 220 grit sandpaper. This process only took about 15 minutes since we weren’t trying to take off an existing stain. We simply wanted to remove any rough patches on the wood and ensure the stain applied evenly!

STEP 4: APPLY THE STAIN TO THE DRESSER

Chuck and I loved Kourtni’s custom stain blend she used for her dresser and decided to use the same blend. Again, since Chuck and I are super new to DIY’s we also mimicked her stain application technique which proved to be AMAZING!!

These are the products you will need for staining your dresser:

First, Chuck in went in with Varathane Weathered Oak on a stain sponge. As soon as the stain was applied with the sponge he took a painters rag and wiped off any access. The longer you leave the stain on the wood, the darker the stain will become.

We didn’t want our dresser to be too dark, so we didn’t leave the stain on there for longer than a minute before taking the painters rag and wiping off the access.

Once you’ve covered your dresser in Varathane Weathered Oak it’s time to apply your Varathane Early American stain! We applied the Early American stain right after we covered the dresser in the first stain.

We used the same technique to apply the Early American stain with the wipe on with a stain sponge and wipe off with a painters rag.

For the Early American stain we did two full coats of this because the wood wasn’t as dark as we wanted after the first coat.

Then, we applied two coats of matte polyurathane to seal the stain and protect the wood.

STEP 5: APPLY YOUR CANE WEBBING

Cane webbing is hard to come by! It was sold out everywhere or completely overpriced. After searching the web for awhile I finally found a seller who had the webbing in stock at a reasonable price.

You can get my exact cane webbing here!

He also takes custom orders. Simply message him the amount you need for the project you are working on!

We ordered 7 feet of cane webbing for this DIY dresser project.

Cane webbing is very easy to work with and easy to install on the dresser drawers! We used a staple gun to attached the webbing the dresser.

STEP 6: ATTACH THE HANDLES

Chuck and I found these GORGEOUS handles at Home Depot for $7. I loved the champagne color and that they weren’t too gold!

STEP 7: ENJOY YOUR DRESSER!

Now, it’s time to enjoy your dresser! This entire project took us two and a half days to complete, but was totally worth it!

Welcome back to Blush & Camo! Today I’m sharing how to create a rainbow wall. I’m currently in my third trimester and getting my nursery ready for Baby C to arrive in August!

Her nursery theme is boho inspired with lots of rainbows and unicorns. I knew I wanted a boho rainbow as the focal point of the nursery, but the wall paper and rainbow decals were super expensive! The one that inspired this entire wall can be found here. But it’s $439 so I decided to create my own!

Here is my step by step process for creating your very own rainbow wall! This would look amazing in any nursery (for a boy you could switch up the colors!) or little kids room.

Let’s dive into it!

CREATE YOUR OUTLINE:

First, you want to determine how large you want your rainbow. So, you’re going to start by creating your outer most arch first!

I did this by using small pieces of blue paint tape. I didn’t want the rainbow to look perfect so I eyeballed the shape to how I wanted it to look. This process took me over an hour because I wanted the arch to look perfectly imperfect! All your other rainbow arches are going to be based off of your first one, so I wanted to spend the most time on this!

Then, I filled in the outer most arch with painters tape. I found it easier to make small cuts in the tape to bend it how I wanted to when creating my arch. I also got sick of doing this and used small pieces of tape overlapping one another to create my arches.

MEASURE OUT YOUR OTHER ARCHES

After my first arch was created I wanted to measure out the rest of the arches to ensure they were all equal thickness and distance apart.

For my rainbow I made each arch 8 inches thick and two inches apart. I used a tape measure and blue paint to mark the thickness and distance of each arch.

In total I have five arches on my rainbow!

TAPE THE OUTLINE TO THE REST OF YOUR ARCHES

The good news is, you’ve done all the hard leg work upfront! Now, it’s time to create the rest of your arches with painters tape.

I found it easier to outline one arch, paint it in, then move to the next arch so I could visually see how the rainbow was turning out. Using this method I could tweak arches or add a little more paint to ensure the rainbow was exactly how I wanted it to look!

PAINT YOUR ARCHES

Now the fun part! Time to start painting. I used a 6in roller brush to fill in each of the arches and a 2 in roller brush for additional detail work. Using a roller brushes gave a flawless finish the rainbow and took way less time than a brush.

Below are all the Behr paint colors we used if you want to replicate this exact color scheme!

TAKE OFF PAINTERS TAPE & FINE TUNE

Once the paint dries on all your arches it’s time to take off the painters tape! When I did this I noticed a few spots that needed additional paint so I went in with a 1 inch paint brush for this detail work.

That’s it! Those are all the steps you need to create your very own boho inspired rainbow wall!

Welcome back to Blush & Camo! Today I’m sharing how to install peel and stick tile to any room in your home. I’m also linking the exact products I used for you to easily shop.

Chuck and I wanted to install peel and stick tile in our laundry room since I wanted to give this space a fresh, new feel!

The good news is, peel and stick tile is extremely easy to install and it only takes a few tools. Below are all the items I used, plus the exact peel and stick tile I used in my laundry room.

TOOLS USED:

• Xacto Knife
• Tile Roller
• Peel and Stick Tile

HOW TO MEASURE OUT YOUR SQUARE FOOTAGE

First, you are going to want to measure out the square footage of the space you want to add your peel and stick tile.

To determine square footage use this simple equation:

Length x Width = Area

Once you have measured out your square footage you will know how many boxes to order. For our peel and stick tile 1 x box of peel and stick came with 10 tiles and covered 10 square feet. This means each tile covers one square foot.

For Chuck and I our square footage came out to 66 square feet so we ordered 7 boxes!

HOW TO INSTALL PEEL & STICK

Now, comes the fun part! First, ensure the floor space you are about to cover is cleaned. Chuck and I vacuumed and then mopped our surface.

Then, pick a corner you want to start at and work your way out from that corner.

My biggest tip is to focus on covering the main body of your floor space and worry about the detailing last. What I mean by this is to not worry if there are gaps between around the edge of your space.

For every tile you place on the ground use your tile roller to ensure a really great stick!

Then, once you’ve covered the main floor space go back and work on the edging around the room. This is where your Xacto knife will come into play! Match up the print to the tile next to it and use your Xacto knife to cut the size you need.

And that’s it! I love that peel and stick tile is affordable, rental friendly, and easily gives a room a new look.

Chuck and I have had our tile installed for two weeks and it’s holding up amazing!! The laundry room in our home also is our mud room that gets the most foot traffic. The tile still looks brand new after almost two weeks of straight rain and is super easy to clean.

I would recommend this project to anyone looking to spruce up a space!

Welcome back to Blush & Camo! I’m super excited for today’s post because today I’m sharing all the details of how Chuck and I refurbished a dining room set we found on Facebook Marketplace for under $200!

In this post I’ll share how to best shop Facebook Marketplace, the tools we used for this project, and the step by step process for how we completed this dining room set! I hope this post helps and inspires you to makeover your own furniture.

TOOLS YOU WILL NEED

• DeWALT 3 Amp Corded 5 in. Variable Speed Random Orbital Sander
• 5 in. 80-Grit Universal Hole Random Orbital Sanding Disc with Hook and Lock Backing (50-Pack)
• 1 qt. #YL-W14 Off White Satin Enamel Interior Paint and Primer in One
• Varathane 1 qt. Clear Matte Water-Based Interior Polyurethane
• 2-1/2 in. Pro Nylon/Polyester Thin Angle Sash Brush
• 1-1/2 in. Pro Nylon/Polyester Thin Angle Sash Brush
• WATCO 1 pt. Natural Danish Oil
• 10 in. x 15 in. EcoSoft Rags (45-Pack)

These are all of the tools Chuck and I used during this project! I even linked the exact color of paint we used for the chairs and base of the table. We went with a Behr paint in the color “Off-White” in a satin finish.

HOW TO SHOP FACEBOOK MARKETPLACE

We got this dining room set from Facebook Marketplace and this platform is a goldmine of finding furniture items to refurbish at an affordable price. I’ve always wanted a round, farmhouse table but didn’t want to pay the price tag for one.

So, I went on Facebook Marketplace and looked for round tables within a 75 mile radius of where I live. There were actually a lot of options to pick from. I ultimately choose this table because of the detailing on the chairs and the beautiful detailing on the base of the table.

If you are looking to shop Facebook Marketplace I recommend starting with a broad search of the item you are looking for and narrowing it down from there. For example, if you are looking for a rug I would search “area rug” and see everything that is available in your area.

Keep in mind that when people upload their items to Facebook Marketplace they are not savvy in SEO and usually aren’t getting specific with their item. They are writing the most broad, obvious version of what they are selling.

Search words that are broad such as area rug, dining room set, etc will give you a feel for everything available in your area and see if there trending words on products where you can narrow your search!

I’ve purchased so many items from Facebook Marketplace and found that this platform is the best if you are looking for these categories:

• Rugs
• Dining Room sets
• Barstools
• Home Decor
• Chairs
• Outdoor furniture

HOW TO MAKEOVER A DINING ROOM SET

Now that you know how to shop Facebook Marketplace to shop for your next furniture makeover it’s time to dive into how to actually turn your purchase from drab to fab!

Chuck and I got this dining room set for under $200 and I knew right away that I wanted to makeover this set into my dream modern farmhouse dining room set.

The chairs had beautiful detailing on the backs of them so we decided not to sand the chairs prior to painting.

We gave each of the chairs three coats of our Behr paint each using the paint brushes I linked above. I really wanted the chairs a pure white so that’s why we went with three coats. Then, we sealed the bottom of the chairs (the part where you sit on the chair) with three coats of matte clear polyurethane.

If you are looking to create a more rustic farmhouse aesthetic I recommend only giving your furniture 1-2 coats of paint to allow some of the wood to show through. This gives your furniture a more “worn-in” look!

In order to get into all the cracks on the detailing of the chairs I would dip my paint brush into the paint and then stamp the paint brush into the crevices on all the details. Then, I went through a made smooth brush strokes to even out the paint.

Chuck and I decided not to sand the base or legs of the table because I wanted them to match the color of the chairs. We also didn’t sand the base or legs of the table. We also gave three coats of paint to the base of the table.

SANDING THE TABLE

The last step to refurbishing our dining room set was the sand the top and lip of the table. We did some research on sanders and opted for the DeWalt sander linked above because it was a great price for the features that came with it!

We also decided to sand with 80 grit discs. A good rule of thumb with sanding is the lower the number (60, 70, 800 grit sand paper) the bigger the grit. The bigger the grit the easier it is to take off the finish on the furniture you are making over.

The higher the number (120, 220, 240) the smaller the grit and this sand paper isn’t actually going to remove the finish off of furniture. This sandpaper is simply going to smooth out the wood on your furniture.

It took about 4 sheets of sandpaper and a full hour to sand the entire top and lip of our table.

We found out after sanding the table that we had an oak table which I was super excited about!

HOW TO PICK THE RIGHT STAIN & APPLY

Once the table was sanded Chuck and I decided to stain our table with danish oil. Danish oil is a hard drying oil, meaning it can polymerize into a solid form when it reacts with oxygen in the atmosphere. It can provide a hard-wearing, often water-resistant satin finish, or serve as a primer on bare wood before applying paint or varnish.

Chuck and I wanted to keep the wood on top of the table as natural as possible since the oak was gorgeous. We also loved that danish oil is a stain and sealer in one so this saved us some time.

TO APPLY:

• Ensure you clean off the wood you are about to stain with a damp rag and let the wood dry
• For your FIRST coat of danish oil coat on with a paint brush and use a generous amount. Then, right after staining use a dry rag and brush off any excess stain using a clean, dry rag
• After two hours use a rag to apply your second coat of danish oil. Then, right after staining go in again with a clean, dry rag and wipe off any excess.
• Then, eight or more hours after your second coat use a rag to apply a light third layer of stain. Then, right after staining go in again with a clean, dry rag and wipe off any excess.

Chuck and I only did three coats because we didn’t want the table to look shiny. The more coats you use the shinier the wood will appear. Three coats is the minimum number of coats to properly stain and seal your surface.

HOW TO DISPOSE OF YOUR STAINING RAGS

While doing our research on wood stain we found out that danish oil is highly flammable.

If you do decide to go with danish oil to stain your wood you should put all of your stained rags outside on your drive way (NOT on top on one another, but spread out) and let them dry out. Once they are dried out you put them in a bucket of water and let soak. Then, you can throw your rags in the trash.

FINAL RESULT

The second product I’m absolutely loving is the Waterl<ss Heat Protect & Restyle spray. This is one of my favorite hair products ever. I’ve been using this spray for a few weeks and my hair feels so much healthier!

Simply shake and spray on your hair before you apply a hot tool and this spray will protect your locks up to 450 degrees. Waterl<ss’ heat protectant is also not formulated with parabens, alcohol, and sulfates!

Between these two products I’ve been able to extend my wash days, protect my hair against hot tools, and feel like I’m having a great hair day every day! I’ve been using their Instant Moisture Dry Conditioner as well. It refreshes the ends of my hair and smells amazing!

Welcome back to Blush & Camo! Last July I wanted to see if drugstore makeup could rival, or was better than, the expensive name-brand makeup you can find at Sephora.

At the time my makeup bag was filled with really expensive makeup ranging from $46 setting powder to $30 concealer. Putting on my makeup in the morning is one of my favorite moments of the day, but walking into Sephora and spending over $100 to purchase 2-3 products was soul crushing.

To be honest, I was sick of the amount of money I was spending on my makeup and wanted to switch it up.

That’s where this blog post comes in! Over the past 10 months I’ve tried out dozens of drugstore makeup brands and products. Some products were awful, but overall I was super impressed with the products I tried out.

I am happy to announce that my makeup bag back in July filled with over $1000 worth of makeup has almost successfully been replaced by all drugstore makeup dupes that rival, or are better than, the products I had before.

Want to know the best part?! None if my drugstore makeup products are over $10!!

In today’s post I’m sharing the best of the best drugstore makeup dupes I’ve found and that fill my makeup bag. I wear these dupes every single day.

I hope this post inspires you to try out a few drugstore makeup products, or at the very least shows that more expensive doesn’t necessarily mean better.

Ok, now let’s get to the good stuff!

e.l.f. SPONGE: This is the best makeup sponge I’ve ever used. It’s twice the size of my BeautyBlender and has a flat edge which is perfect for blending in concealer or nose contour. My $5 sponge also lasts longer than my BeautyBlender.

Case in point, I will never buy another BeautyBlender again.

e.l.f. CAMO CONCEALER: I never thought any product would replace my Tarte shape tape concealer. This was my ride or die product, and was the last product I switched over. I was just so attached to it.

In the spirit of my quest to find great drugstore dupes I tried out a few concealers that didn’t convince me to switch over until I came across this $6 concealer.

It’s the best concealer I’ve ever used and better than Tarte Shape Tape’s (gasp, I said it!). It doesn’t settle into fine lines, gives amazing coverage, and look amazing with other foundations.

MAKEUP REVOLUTION SETTING POWDER: I can’t say enough great things about this setting powder. I get three times as much product as my old Hourglass powder for $8. It also gives my skin a gorgeous, flawless look. I’m so happy I found this!

e.l.f. Setting Spray: Much like my Tarte Shape Tape concealer, my Urban Decay setting spray was one of my ride or die products I was very reluctant to find a replacement. I didn’t think anything would be better than my Urban Decay.

I was wrong. My e.l.f setting spray is better than my Urban Decay and a fraction of the price. I love that the e.l.f setting spray doesn’t have any alcohol in it so it doesn’t dry my face out throughout the day like my Urban Decay one did.

LASH STILETTO MASCARA: This mascara works just as good as my Urban Decay Perversion mascara. I wouldn’t say that it performs better, but I honestly can’t tell a difference between the two. It really came down to price and Lash Stiletto won by a landslide!

Welcome back to Blush & Camo! In today’s post I’m sharing how to easily apply self tanner so you can glow all spring and summer long.

Last year was the first time I tried self tanner, and I was a little intimidated. Was it going to look streaky? Would I look orange?! Getting spray tans every other week was time consuming and expensive. So, last year, I took matters into my own hands (literally!) and decided to try out self tanners.

Over the last year I’ve learned a thing or two about best practices, and what to absolutely not do, so I’ve rounded up those best practices into today’s post!

1.) EXFOLIATE YOUR BODY

You can do this in the shower with a sugar scrub! This process takes about three minutes, but will allow your self tanner to go on smoother and last longer! Ensure whatever scrub you decide to use does not have any oils in it, because this could affect the outcome of your tan.

2.) APPLY MOISTURIZER

Once you’re out of the shower apply your favorite all over body moisturizer! This will help your tan last longer. Make sure your moisturizer is completely soaked in and your skin is dry prior to applying the self tanner.

3.) USE A MITT or GLOVE

This is the best tip I can give you! Using a tanning mitt or glove gives you a streak free tan, prevents your hands from turning orange. I’ve linked my favorites down below for you!

4.) APPLY SELF TANNER IN SMALL SECTIONS

Once you have your mitt on you’re going to apply your self tanner on in sections. I like to break up applying by body part. This is my routine:

• Face and Neck
• Left Arm
• Left Leg
• Chest
• Stomach
• Right Arm
• Right Leg

By applying your self tanner in sections this ensures you don’t miss a spot!

5.) SAVE YOUR FEET FOR LAST

Feet are the trickiest body part to tan since your skin in thinner in this area and ankles are a pain to tan. I use a very small amount of product and lightly go over my feet and ankle area with my mitt.

6.) ALLOW 10-15 MINUTES TO DRY

I’ve gotten questions about when is the best to apply self tanner. Is is morning or night? The answer to this is personal preference! I know some of my friends prefer to put it on at night, but I apply in the morning right after I take a shower.

Regardless of the time of day you apply always allow 10-15 minutes for the self tanner to dry. I like to wear a robe or towel as I am getting ready in the morning to ensure I don’t get any residue on my clothes!

7.) CONTINUE TO APPLY MOISTURIZER

To extend the longevity of your self tanner try and moisturize your body once a day!

I like to repeat this steps and reapply my self tanner every 3-5 days!

2020 is the biggest year of my life and it’s filled with lots of changes! All of these changes are exciting, but they are all happening at once, so it can be a lot to process.

Here are a few of the changes that are happening in the next six months:

• Chuck and I are moving to Durham, NC at the end of April
• We are selling our house here in Nashville
• Chuck transitions out of the Army in June
• Chuck is joining the National Guard in June
• Chuck starts Law School at the University of North Carolina in August
• We are welcoming Baby C into the world the middle of August

I told you there were a lot of huge changes happening to both Chuck and I this year. Plus, between all of these changes I am running my business, pregnant, and trying to get all the adulting tasks required of each of the big changes above.

This year is crazy!

That’s why it’s so important  that I develop a nighttime routine to help me relax and unwind at the end of each day. I started taking a bath every night with a relaxing lavender bubble bath. Floral scents are the most calming to me! Some nights I will put on a face mask, other nights, I exfoliate. During my nighttime routine I also love to put on my favorite podcast and enjoy these thirty minutes to myself.

Since being pregnant, my hair has been growing like crazy and is a little thicker than it usually is (thank you, hormones!). One thing that hasn’t changed about my hair is how dry it is due to all the highlighting I’ve put my hair through over the years!

Welcome back to Blush & Camo! Today I’m talking about a topic that may give some of you a headache, or maybe a little bit of anxiety, just thinking about it! The topic I’m talking about is taxes!

As a business owner taxes can get complicated with all of my 1099’s, managing my business expenses, and understanding which category each of my expenses falls into.

Honestly, I still have nightmares about filing my taxes from last year. It was a miserable process. I had to wait in line at a tax office, it took hours sitting with a tax rep while I went through all of my documentation, then the tax rep realized my situation was too complicated and I had to start over with another tax rep. Oh, and it cost me an arm and a leg.

Chuck also remembers our tax nightmare last year, which is why we were determined this year to not repeat that same process.

We did some research and came across H&R Block’s Tax Pro Go. The whole process seemed so simple we thought it was too good to be true! Here are the three simple steps with H&R Block’s Tax Pro Go:

1. Lock in your price (the pricing is VERY fair and clear at the start of your tax filing!)
2. Upload your documents (then, when your tax pro has finished your return)
3. Review and pay!

Once the tax pro receives your documents, the turnaround time is approximately five days.

This simple process is all done in the comfort of your own home because you get to file virtually. That was the selling point for Chuck and I. We didn’t want to wait in any lines and we loved how H&R Block created Tax Pro Go  for people with busy lifestyles (aka ALL OF US!).

Chuck and I started filing our taxes the first weekend in March and signed up with H&R Block’s Tax Pro Go! Filling out my initial profile took about five minutes (so easy)! Then, the system gave me options for how I was filing and I choose “business owner”.

After those two simple steps I was assigned my very own tax professional who actually did our our taxes for us!!

Chuck and I uploaded all my 1099’s and sent them to our tax professional.

THAT’S IT!

The whole process took less than an hour. We couldn’t believe it.

After submitting my 1099’s we scheduled a call with our tax rep on Sunday to go over a few questions we had. She was available all day and our call only took 10 minutes. We sent her additional documents she needed and then she filed our taxes.

I literally want to tell everyone how amazing the process was to file my taxes this year. H&R Block’s Tax Pro Go is absolutely the way to file taxes!

Chuck and I were so happy and felt very confident about our filing because we had a professional tax expert ,trained to handle our unique filing situation, actually doing our taxes for us.

We didn’t step foot into an office, the pricing was clear and upfront, the set-up took a little over an hour, and we were assigned a professional tax representative, Priscilla Weems, who was available 7 days a week!

Chuck and I set aside an entire Saturday afternoon to file our taxes. The process was so simple and quick we got to take Frankie and Elvis to the dog park and binge watch our favorite TV show that afternoon instead of filing taxes all day.

This mini home project is what inspired today’s post! I’m sharing my best tips for decorating your porch for spring and summer. Plus, I’m also linking all my items you see in today’s post so you can easily shop!

ADD A PLANT (OR TWO)

I love the addition of plants, succulents, and/or flowers on a porch! The best part?! This tip is super simple to emulate. Simply add a wreath, hanging florals, or a planter box (or two!) on your porch!

You’ve instantly created a welcoming area into your home!

DON’T USE NAILS ON THE EXTERIOR OF YOUR HOME

I personally love hanging garland around my front door to frame it. If you also love this look my pro tip is to not use any type of nails or poke holes on the exterior of your home.

The reason for this is because almost all homes exterior are weather-proof treated to prevent water and other elements from getting inside your home. Putting holes on the exterior or your home way weaken this treatment or allow water to seep into the walls of your home.

Instead, I highly recommend using command clips that I linked below! Chuck and I used command clips to hang every item attached to our home. I was hesitant at first to use these because I didn’t think they would last long, but it’s been three weeks and I haven’t had a single issue!

DOUBLE LAYER YOUR WELCOME MATS

My last tip when decorating your porch for spring and summer is to double layer your welcome mats! What I mean by this is to add a “framing” mat under your welcome mat. This makes the entry point to your home a little more cozy and allows your welcome mat to really stand out!

Welcome back to Blush & Camo! Last week Chuck and I shared our exciting news that we are having a baby. We are over the moon excited and can’t wait to meet Baby C in August! I am now into my second trimester (where does the time go?!) and finally have the symptoms of fatigue, nausea, and food aversions subsiding.

Now that I have significantly more energy than I did those past three months Chuck and I are starting to make lists of everything we will need throughout my pregnancy for Baby C.

At the moment, I need clothes that fit and flatter my changing body. My pre-pregnancy pants officially don’t fit me anymore, and I’m finding new styles to flatter my body!

Chuck and I also started a list for all the items needed for when Baby C arrives! It seems every day we add to the list. We’ve really started to research the best brands and most important items we will need for Baby C.

The list includes:

• Stroller
• Car Seat
• Baby Monitor
• Crib
• Rocking Chair
• Bassinet
• Baby Clothes
• Baby Blankets
• Diapers
• Baby bath items

This is a super abbreviated list of all the items we’ve currently put together, but as you can see, the list is still extensive. Plus, many of these items are “big-ticket” pieces that cost a significant amount of money.

Chuck and I started budgeting the first few weeks of my pregnancy, setting aside money to ensure Baby C is well taken care of when they arrive!

Welcome back to Blush & Camo! Chuck and I made the exciting announcement last week that we are expecting Baby C in August! Thank you for all the love and excitement you’ve shown over this past week. It means the world to us!

In today’s post I’m recapping my first trimester- cravings, symptoms, and my new routine. If you’re a mom or soon-to-be mom let me know if you had similar symptoms, or share your unique cravings, in the comments below!

FIRST TRIMESTER SYMPTOMS

NAUSEA: I was nauseous starting week 6 and the nausea didn’t end until just a few days ago. ALL day every day it felt like I was the verge of vomiting, but only actually when I was at the airport (and airplane!) one morning.

I honestly don’t know why they call it morning sickness when it lasts almost all day. It’s seems kind of deceiving, but then again, I guess your body can’t tell time. When 12:00p rolls around it’s not like your body all of a sudden just stops feeling nauseous.

Later on in my first trimester the nausea wouldn’t arrive until late in the afternoon and wouldn’t stop until the next morning. One night it was so bad the only thing I could stomach was salt and pepper potato chips for dinner.

FATIGUE: Pregnancy fatigue is something I was not mentally prepared for. The fatigue started around week 5 and to this day is still a thing for me. Thankfully, it’s not quite as bad as those first few weeks of pregnancy.

Thanks to my time in the military I was used to waking up super early, working late, and averaging about 5-6 hours of sleep a night. I was always able to power through it for years and not have it affect my day to day life.

There is absolutely no fighting pregnancy fatigue. Your body is permanently exhausted. It feels like you’re on the verge of falling asleep all day. I’ve truly never experienced anything like this in my entire life.

The first half of my first trimester I averaged almost 12 hours of sleep a night. Even after all that sleep I still walked around all day exhausted.

FOOD AVERSIONS: This symptom was front and center until I hit my second trimester! I used to love eating salads every day. During my pregnancy the thought of salad made me run for the bathroom.

The only food I could truly stomach was bread, bagels, and cheese. I basically lived on carbs and cheese for a few weeks.

FIRST TRIMESTER CRAVINGS

There were only two cravings I had during my first pregnancy.

• Oyster crackers dipped in plain cream cheese
• Salt and vinegar potato chips

That’s it! I kept waiting for more weird cravings to hit, but it never happened. Cravings weren’t prevalent during my pregnancy. It was mostly about eating foods I could keep down.

NEW WORKOUT PLAN

My new workout plan was what I struggled with the most during my first trimester.

Growing up I always played sports, in college I was on the swim and crew team, and in the Army I took pride in being really physically fit.

When I transitioned out of the Army I still continued my routine of working out every single morning Monday thru Friday. When I found out I was pregnant I was attending Orange Theory every day during the work week.

Then, the nausea and pregnancy fatigue set in around the 5-6 week mark. Waking up and going to Orange Theory simply wasn’t going to happen. I felt so sick and tired.

For a few weeks I didn’t make it to the gym at all. Maintaining my nausea and fatigue were my top priority. My body simply couldn’t do a workout.

Again, this is something that I’ve never experienced. I’ve always powered through a workout regardless of how I felt.

I truly felt like a failure those first couple weeks for not making it to the gym. Working out is a big part my life and I consider it part of my identity. Not working out at all those first couple weeks was crushing to me.

Thankfully, I have an amazing husband who reminded me I was growing a human and I needed to give myself some grace.

After almost a month of not working out I finally called Orange Theory to cancel my membership. I knew OT was not going to happen for the foreseeable future.

Chuck and I did get a YMCA membership which has been great. I’m able to do workouts at my own pace.

Going from Orange Theory five days a week to barely making it to the gym was a very humbling experience. Over these last few weeks I’ve learned how to give myself a lot of grace.

The fatigue is starting to go away (finally!) so my YMCA visits are a little more frequent.

This is thirteen weeks condensed into one blog post! I can’t wait to share more updates on the blog about Baby C soon!

I’m pregnant!!

Baby C is expected to arrive on August 14th, 2020, and Chuck and I are beyond excited!!

This pregnancy is going by so quickly, and I wanted to share in today’s post how Chuck and I found out we were pregnant. There will be further posts in the coming weeks on Blush & Camo sharing details about my first trimester + weird cravings I had so stay tuned! 

HOW WE FOUND OUT I WAS PREGNANT

I actually thought I was pregnant when I was 3 weeks! I was having some of the traditional symptoms- I wasn’t feeling great in the morning, my chest was significantly bigger, and I was tired all the time. 

I convinced Chuck I needed to take a pregnancy test around the last week in November so we did, but it came back negative. After taking the test I thought maybe I had a cold or was simply run down during the holiday season since it’s the busiest time of the year for bloggers! 

About a week later pregnancy fatigue started to set in (of course at the time I had no idea) and I wasn’t able to go to Orange Theory as often as I wanted to. My normal routine had been to go to Orange Theory Monday-Friday every week. During the beginning of December my body was simply too tired to want to go to the gym and physically I couldn’t do it. 

This was one of the biggest signs I was pregnant since I grew up playing sports, swam in college, and was in the Army for five years. I knew the limits of what I was physically able to do, but this fatigue was something that I had never in my life experienced. It was almost like my body was telling me no and simply shutting down a bit. 

Then, in the middle of December, Chuck and I took a trip to New York City to explore the city during the holiday season. I was super grateful for that trip, because I had gotten to the point where I didn’t want to workout in the morning at all since I felt so horrible (again, I had no idea this was morning sickness and pregnancy fatigue!) and this was a great excuse to break up my routine. 

That entire week I averaged about 10 hours of sleep a night, which is the most sleep I’ve ever gotten consistently for the past few years, but I kept waking up exhausted. 

At this point I knew something was up and joked with Chuck that I am either getting some type of weird flu, or I was definitely pregnant. However, since I took a pregnancy test about three weeks prior and it had come back negative we didn’t think there was any way I was pregnant. 

After New York we went to Philly to watch the Army Navy game. I felt horrible the entire weekend, but had a blast catching up with my classmates. It wasn’t until Sunday morning, December 15th, when we were at the airport about to fly home, that I had my first real experience with morning sickness. 

Waiting for our flight I spent the entire time in the restroom vomiting, and the flight home wasn’t much better. I vomited almost the entire plane ride home to the point where I was just dry heaving.

As soon as we got home that morning I told Chuck I was taking another pregnancy test. We still weren’t convinced I was pregnant even though my chest had almost doubled in size, I was tired all the time, and I just had my first real experience with morning sickness. So I very nonchalantly took the test, put it on the kitchen counter, and went about my business unpacking all my stuff from our trip. 

After awhile I came back to the test to see two lines on the screen! Chuck and I were both in shock and super excited! We tried getting pregnant January through March of 2019, but when we found out Chuck was deploying overseas in late March we stopped trying since I didn’t want to be pregnant while he was gone. 

We both looked at one another and started smiling because we truly couldn’t believe it! These first thirteen weeks have been exciting, challenging, and rewarding all at the same time. 

I’m so excited to share my pregnancy journey over these next few months and to finally have Baby C. arrive in August!

Add pretty vases, bowls, or mugs.

This is a simple and effective way to any shelf in any room. You can also incorporate flowers or greenery in these vases! I love to add faux flowers and foliage in a few of mine.

Incorporate varying heights

This makes your each shelf unique so the eye wanders to every shelf! You can easily do this by stacking books on their side at different heights and adding a vase or trinket on top!

Add cute organizational storage

If you are living in a smaller space placing cute organizational baskets are a chic way to free up some space! I added two super affordable wicker baskets at the bottom of my ladder bookcases.

Make it personal

Add pictures of your family or sentimental items throughout your shelves! I also love the idea of adding coffee table books that you love on your shelves too. They may be conversation starters when you have guests over.

TAKE DOWN ALL THE RED

My favorite color during the holidays is red because it embodies the holidays and is super festive. I recommend unless there is a ton of red already sprinkled throughout your home to take down all the red decor since this is usually reserved for Christmas decor.

FOCUS ON GREENERY AND FAUX FOLIAGE

During the winter months I don’t like to add pops of color through floral arrangements or wreaths since that is reserved more for spring and summer decor.

I recommend adding faux foliage such as eucalyptus garland and bunches of neutral floral arraignments like I have on my mantle. The garland adds a cozy feel similar to the holidays and the greenery warms up your entire space!

ADD FUN GARLAND TO YOUR SPACE

In addition to the faux foliage on your mantle I love adding fun garland hung below the mantle to add more cozy vibes to your room. I linked my exact garland on my fireplace in this blog post!

MIX AND MATCH TEXTURES

The last tip to creating a cozy space after the holidays is the mix and match textures in the room you are decorating! Faux sheepskin, chunky blankets, seagrass or wicker baskets, and soft throws are all simple, easy ways to add more texture and warmth to your space!

Welcome back to Blush & Camo! The holidays are officially here and that means lots of baking and cooking for friends and family. I love all the cookies, chocolate, and amazing meals that surround the holidays.

One tradition my family has every Christmas is cooking an entire Thanksgiving feast but instead of a turkey we cook a ham! For the past few years Chuck and I have hosted Christmas at our house and this year I’m SO excited to finally have a grill to help cook all of our holiday foods. My dad and I have been planning out our Christmas menu and we decided we are going to grill our ham and vegetables for the dinner!

I got my grill from The Home Depot and we opted for the Dyna-Glo Four Burner Open Cart LP Gas Grill in black! There are certain features that Chuck and I both love about this grill and these features include:

• Stainless steel control panel
• Cast iron cooking grates
• Removable drip pan and grease cup for easy upkeep
• Built in bottle opener (Chuck loves this element!)
• Push and turn ignition (I love this because it’s so easy to use!)

The Home Depot offers a wide selection of grills for all your grilling needs and is currently offering FREE DELIVERY on all grills purchased online and free assembly on all grills purchased in-store!

I’ve used this grill a few times prior to all my family coming into town and I have found it’s super simple to use and helps cook delicious tasting food!

If you are looking for an easy way to grill a ham for the holidays keep reading to learn how YOU can grill your very own ham!

ITEMS YOU WILL NEED:

• 8- to 10-pound ham (bone-in)

• Dyna-Glo Grill from The Home Depot

• 13-inch-by-nine inch aluminum foil pan

• 1 cup water

• Cooking thermometer

• Cutting board

• Aluminum foil

Step 1:

Preheat the grill to 500 degrees. Once the gas grill reaches this temperature, reduce the heat to 350 degrees. The high heat kills harmful bacteria on the grill grates (thanks dad for the tip!).

Step 2:

Place the ham, flat side down, in the aluminum foil pan. Discard the plastic disc over the bone, if one is on your ham. Add 1 cup of water to the pan.

Step 3:

Cook the ham over indirect heat for one hour. On a gas grill, this means leaving one burner off completely. Place the ham over the burner that is off, but ensure that you maintain a temperature around 300 to 350 degrees.

Step 4:

Close the lid to the grill. Continue to check on the temperature while the whole ham cooks.

Step 5:

Add the glaze you would like! I personally love this recipe here! It only takes five ingredients to create! You apply the glaze after one hour of the ham on the grill.

Step 6:

Add more water to the ham if the pan is dry. You can continue to add water as it dries at ½-cup intervals.

Step 7:

Continue to bake the whole ham on the gas grill for an additional hour to ½ hour. The ham needs to cook for 10 minutes for each pound. Apply glaze every half hour to keep adding flavor to the ham.

Step 8:

Remove the ham from the grill. Take the ham out of the aluminum pan, and place it on a cutting board. Tent a sheet of foil over the ham to allow the juices to stay intact. Allow the ham to rest for 20 minutes before you begin carving.

There you have it! An amazing, delicious grilled ham perfect for the holidays!

Welcome back to Blush & Camo! In today’s post I’m so excited to share my latest home project; painting my fireplace tile white with The Home Depot Pinterest Paint Kits! When Chuck and I first purchased our home back in 2018 there were a few home projects I definitely wanted to tackle, and painting the ugly brown tile surrounding the fireplace was one of them!

 Here’s all the tools, steps, and tips for painting your own tile!

THE HOME DEPOT PINTEREST PAINT KIT

The first step was the select the color of paint I wanted to update the tile with! At first, this seemed like a daunting task. What if I picked the wrong color and made the fireplace look worse?! This was a very real fear going into this project.

Thank goodness Home Depot launched their NEW paint kits in collaboration with Pinterest! These kits were a time saver and provided paint samples without the mess.

Here’s how they work!

I picked my paint kits up at Home Depot and there are eight paint kits to choose from and the options are:

• White Kit
• Accent Colors Kit
• Blues Kit
• Cool Neutrals Kit
• Greys Kit
• Greens kit
• Trend Colors Kit
• Warm Neutrals

Each paint kit comes with six repositionable, wall-friendly paint stickers. These stickers are paint samples you simply peel and stick to the surface you are interested in painting! No mess and no need to paint your surface before you start your home project.

Chuck and I knew we wanted to paint the tile either a bright white or light green so we opted for the White and Greens paint kits!

From the twelve total colors we narrowed our colors down to two green and one white hue. Then, I took each paint sample sticker and cut the sticker to the size that I desired to put on my fireplace!

Each paint sticker has a graphic sticker back making it easy to cut straight lines and create the paint sample you desire for your particular surface!

I put the three paint sticker samples right on the fireplace tile and waited 24 hours to see how each color looked during various times of the day when the light changes!

The stickers stayed for the entire 24 hours, was super easy to adjust if I wanted to reposition the paint sample elsewhere on my fireplace, and didn’t leave any sticky residue after I peeled the sticker off!

I couldn’t believe how simple and easy the paint kits were to use! Both my husband and I thought this made the entire home project painless.

PAINTING THE FIREPLACE

Chuck and I choose a bright white color called Polar Bear from the White Paint Kit. We picked up a quart of paint from Home Depot along with a two inch paintbrush, and four inch paint brush, and painters tape!

I removed all the items off of the mantel and wiped off the tile to ensure it was clean prior to painting. Then, I used my painters tape to tape off all the edges.

The entire surface took me about an hour to paint two coats. I let the paint dry for 24 hours and the next day I added a third coat to complete my project!

I am in love with how the fireplace turned out and the whole process was made so much easier with the Home Depot paint kits!

Welcome back to Blush & Camo! I’m so excited to share with you in today’s post our mini home project that Chuck and I did over Thanksgiving. For this mini project we changed out the original shower head that came with our house and replaced it with the new Delta 2-in-1 In2ition shower head.

Our home has two full baths. The first bathroom is our master bathroom and the second bathroom is upstairs as the guest bath. Chuck and I knew that we needed to change our shower head because our master bath is where we clean Elvis and Frankie when they get dirty from playing outside in the yard.

They get especially dirty in the winter with all the rain and snow that Nashville gets. Our old shower head was very basic; no settings, no handheld function, simply just a showerhead.

We knew we needed a shower head that not only had different settings when taking a shower, but we also needed a handheld function to clean our fur babies and also make it easier to clean our shower.

My Christmas cheer sweatshirt is extra cozy and warm. It’s lined with fleece on the inside and runs TTS. I have on a medium.

This red dress screams holiday parties! There is a v-neck in both the front and back. The dress comes with a red belt made of the same material as the dress, but I added my own belt for this look. This party dress is made of a thick material and is very warm. I have on a medium and it runs TTS.

You know I’m obsessed with leopard print this season, and I know YOU are too so I had to add this cute sweater to the collection! It has a key-hole neckline and is meant to fit slightly oversized. It runs TTS and I have on a medium.

TO STYLE: Look amazing paired with faux leather leggings and over the knee boots or skinny jeans and booties!

I wanted to add an additional festive sweatshirt because who doesn’t love to look cute and cozy during the winter! The sweatshirt is also lined with fleece on the inside and runs TTS. I have on a medium!

In today’s post I’m so excited to share my experience with Olay’s Retinol24 products. If you follow me on Instagram you know that a few weeks ago I got to break open Olay’s “SKIN-MERGENCY” kit made out of chocolate!

Inside this adorable chocolate package was Olay’s Retinol24]products to include their Retinol24 Night Facial Cream, Night Serum, and Night Eye Cream.

I took their challenge and decided to try out these products for the past month!

MY PAST EXPERIENCE WITH RETINOL PRODUCTS

Did you know that retinol is the NUMBER ONE searched skin care ingredient on Google?! I know that I’ve googled about retinol, looked at various retinol products, and learned how this can help improve my skin.

I have tried retinol products in the past, but was unable to use them for very long (maybe a week at most) because of how dry the products would make my skin. This dryness also resulted in my skin breaking out badly. These retinol products were also expensive. I didn’t understand why I was paying so much money for a product that seemed to hurt my skin more than help it.

Over the past decade I’ve tried at least five different products, but nothing worked.

MY EXPERIENCE WITH OLAY’S RETINOL24 PRODUCTS

I didn’t want to completely overwhelm my face with retinol products, so I decided to focus on one of the Retinol24 products and that’s the product I’m going into detail about today!

These past few weeks I’ve been using the Retinol24 Night Serum and love it! First off, it’s extremely affordable[. I use this serum after I cleanse my skin and then apply my moisturizer afterward!

The serum absorbed quickly into my skin each night and didn’t leave it feeling greasy! After a few days my skin appeared smoother,  less dull, and more radiant!

Today’s post is going to be a little bit different since it’s Veteran’s Day! I’m partnering with maurices to share a little bit about my time in the military and now as a military spouse! I’m also sharing how you can show your appreciation to Veterans in honor of Veteran’s Day next week.

My time in the military is something I don’t share too often because I feel like it’s such a 180 degree turn since my current job is a life + style blogger!

MY TIME IN THE ARMY

My time in the military community started when I went to West Point in 2009! I was in a culture shock during Cadet Basic Training as I got accustomed to the Army culture learning how to shoot an M4 rifle, land navigation skills, and go on a countless number of ruck marches. It was a challenging summer, but thankfully I got through it to start my freshman year at the Academy!

Fast forward to 2013 and I was graduating West Point and headed off to my first duty station at Fort Lewis, WA! I always tell people that graduating from West Point is one of my biggest achievements to date, and I’m SO proud that West Point is my Alma Mater.

The first three months at my new unit as a fresh Second Lieutenant I learned I would deploy to Afghanistan in the spring of 2014. So many emotions came over me when I found this out. Was I ready? What would I experience? The list of questions was endless.

April of 2014 I was in a C-130 flying out of Kuwait in the middle of a sandstorm straight into Afghanistan. I’ll never forget that plane ride. I had all my “battle rattle” on as the Army calls it (it’s essentially all your combat gear), on sitting on this plane, and everyone was just staring at one another waiting to land.

One of the most common questions I get when people find out I deployed is “how was it?!”. I did experience mortar and rocket attacks on our base, a flight scare during one of our trips, and a few infiltration attempts onto our base. Compared to many other active duty military personnel and Veterans I would overall consider my deployment very mild and felt very fortunate. I also feel very grateful for the opportunity to deploy overseas and get to serve my country in that capacity.

Less than a year later Chuck and I were stationed at Fort Campbell, KY where we were both assigned to the 2^nd Brigade Combat Team! It was here at Fort Campbell were I finished my time in the Army and transitioned out in August 2018.

Now, I am a full time blogger and proud military spouse to Chuck! I love that I get the very unique experience of being both an active duty Officer and also a military spouse. I always appreciated military spouses, but didn’t fully grasp just how much they support the military community!

My respect for military spouses has astronomically increased and again, I am so thankful for these men and women who serve the military in a different capacity.

One aspect of transitioning into the civilian sector that I truly love, and will come as no surprise to you, is that I love being able to wear whatever I’m in the mood for on any given day! While I was honored to wear the uniform during my time in the military, I do love starting the day selecting what I like to wear.

Some days I love to look a bit dressier with a skirt, boots, and sweater. Other days I like to dress more cozy in jeans, oversized sweaters, and faux fur lined boots like I am in today’s post!

HOW TO SUPPORT VETERANS

There are so many different ways you can show veteran appreciation throughout the year! In today’s post I’m sharing three ways to support Veterans, but overall there is no one size fits all when it comes to showing Veteran appreciation so long as it comes from the heart.

VISITING A WOUNDED WARRIOR IN A HOSPITAL. This is a meaningful way to express gratitude for their service on your behalf. This is one small act of kindness that will last beyond the moments spent at the bedside of someone who has served. I went and visited the VA hospital near Fort Jackson while I was going through the Captain’s Career Course and getting to talk to so many Veterans was very rewarding.

DONATE TO A VETERAN ORGANIZATION. There are so many great Veteran organizations to donate to! A few great ones are:

Wounded Warrior Project helps Veterans and service members who incurred a physical or mental injury, illness, or wound while serving in the military on or after September 11, 2001.

Hope for Warriors was founded by military wives for post–9/11 service members bearing psychological and physical wounds)

Fisher House Foundation. This is a national not-for-profit organization established to provide support for the Fisher House program that provides free housing and “a home away from home” for the families of patients receiving medical care at major military and VA medical centers.

JOIN A TEAM RWB (Red, White, and Blue) CHAPTER. Team RWB’s mission is to enrich the lives of America’s veterans by connecting them to their community through physical and social activity.

Welcome back to Blush & Camo! Today I’m talking about painting my front door blue, which is my FIRST home project ever! Plus, I’m also sharing tips and tricks for if you would also like to paint your front door, or area in your home too!

Chuck and I recently became Nashville homeowners about a year ago and ever since we bought the home there have been a few updates I would like to make to the home, but I was too intimidated to do them.

The first project was to our front door blue! Orginially it was this super ugly shade of brown, which wasn’t doing anything for the home. I’ve always wanted a light blue door, and think they are super welcoming.

I feel fortunate that our trim outside is white so we could’ve gone with any color, but I always knew the shade would be blue!

Keep reading to find out how we selected a color + tips and tricks for painting your home too!

SELECTING A PAINT COLOR

I went to Home Depot to look at paint colors and they had so many to choose from! When I first went I knew I wanted a blue door, but I was also flirting with the idea of possibly doing a seafoam green instead.

I selected paint sample cards and that’s it! That’s all I needed on this first trip.

PRO TIP: When looking to select a pain color, tape your paint swatches to whatever surface you are wanting to paint. This allows you to see the colors at different times of the day when the sunlight hits it differently!

Take a few days to look at the colors and see which ones stand out to you! Once you have your choices narrowed down Home Depot can create mini samples you can use to swatch on the surface you’re going to paint.

The color Chuck and I chose is called Shaved Ice. It’s the perfect grayish, blue hue.

PAINTING THE DOOR

This was the part I built up in my head to be super intimidating. The reality though, was that painting the door was very simple! I took the blue painter’s tape and taped around the window and then around my door handle/lock.

After all the necessary sections were taped off I started to paint!

I did two coats and the entire painting time was about 35 minutes. It was super hot that day so the door dried within a few hours!

OVERALL EXPERIENCE

This was a great first home project to start with because it gave me the confidence that I could accomplish more! Painting our door cost a fraction of the price of replacing it, and I had full creative control over the process and selecting my color.

In today’s post I’m so excited to share a new home project Chuck and I took on last week- our master bedroom reading nook.

Our master bedroom isn’t huge, but we’ve always wanted to create a cozy reading corner in our space to relax and unwind over a long day.

Since we were decorating a tiny space in our room our main focus wasn’t the furniture- it was wall decor. I knew the wall coverings would add character to the space.

I was searching around for chic, affordable wall decor and I stumbled upon Desenio! I’m so happy I did because I’m obsessed with this brand.

Desenio provides hundreds of prints to select from and a chic frames to choose from so you can create a space you love in your home! I love that their wall décor is so affordable, but the quality is AMAZING! I was so happy with my prints when I got them in the mail.

The prints that I chose were the Cotton Plant Blue (50x70cm), Eucalyptus Plant (50x70cm), Love L (30x40cm), and the accompanying oak frames for each!

After Chuck and I hung the Desenio wall décor the space really started coming to life. I added a faux plant, faux sheep skin rug, and a few blankets to tie in the entire space.

We are both so happy with how this space turned out and I know that we will be using this cozy corner of our room so much more!

Short hair looks amazing with hats! They are perfect for the days when your hair simply doesn’t want to cooperate with you, or your on day 5 of dry shampoo (been there!).

SPACE BUNS

This hairstyle is so fun to wear instead of the traditional hair bun. Simply part your hair down the middle and put each section in a bun. I wore my hair like this a lot this past summer when I was at the pool!

For fall this would look cute with a chunky sweater or cardigan!

BEACH WAVES

Beachy waves is my go-to short hairstyle! It only takes a few minutes and your curls don’t need to look perfect. In fact, the messier the better!

I take a 1 in curling wand and wrap 1-2 inch sections of hair all around my head then shake all the curls loose.

HALF TOP KNOT

As I write this blog post my hair is currently styled in a half top knot! This hairstyle looks amazing on short hair.

Simply gather the top section of hair on your head and put into a bun. You can accessorize with a hair scarf or scrunchie to complete the hairstyle!

STYLE WITH A HEADBAND

Headbands are making a huge comeback this season and this cute hairstyle only takes a few seconds to create!

Dunkin Pumpkin Spice Cold Brew: 70 CALORIES/ 8g Sugar

• Ask for a MEDIUM Cold Brew
• Ask for ONE HALF (1/2) pump of pumpkin spice FLAVOR SWIRL
• Add a splash of cream yourself or use their individual creamer cups (you can sub for almond milk if you want non-dairy)
• Add ONE-TWO Splendia

STARBUCKS PUMPKIN COLD FOAM COLD BREW: 75 Calories/ 12g Sugar

• Ask for a Grande Cold Foam Cold Brew
• Ask for ONE PUMP OF PUMPKIN SPICE in the cold foam (make sure they don’t add vanilla to the non-fat milk)
• Ask for THREE pumps of Sugar Free Vanilla Syrup in the cold brew

Here’s how you use each product:

Pantene Mist Behaving Dry Conditioner Mist

Two to three days after I wash my hair it starts to look dull and frizzy. Which makes sense after a few days of working out, running errands, and sleeping on it! This product will reintroduce some shine and leave your hair feeling smoother and in place.

It conditions your strands with blends of light-as-air hydrators and Omega-9 that penetrates into the hair core to restore it with lipids for a smooth finish. Plus, it smells REALLY GOOD and it’s free of sulfates and parabens!

TO USE:

1. Shake the can and hold the can 6-8 inches away from your hair for optimal coverage. You don’t want to hold the can too closely to your hair.

2. Apply from the mid-lengths to ends on dry hair. Brush or finger comb through. You want to avoid spraying directly at your roots for the best results!

Pantene Cheat Day Dry Shampoo Foam

Since my hair is highlighted bright blonde a few days of not washing it can leave my hair feeling really dry. This is why I love the Pantene Cheat Day Dry Shampoo Foam! The foam is free of drying alcohols, sulfates, and parabens and also has Pro-Vitamin B5 in the formula leaving your hair clean and soft!

TO USE:

1. Shake the can well and dispense a small amount into your fingertips! You want to avoid spraying directly at your roots for the best results!

2. Section your hair and start with a small amount.

3. Apply to dry hair at the roots and rub it in. Repeat for each section.

4. Brush out and style as you like. (Your hair may feel a little damp after you apply, but don’t worry, that’s normal! It’s just the foam doing its magic and it dries quickly!)

I’ve seen this trend popping up for a few seasons and I would love to incorporate white shoes into midi dresses, denim, and skirts this fall. I love the bright pop it gives to any look!

I can honestly say I’ve gone my entire life without wearing dangly earrings until this summer and I’m so obsessed. I don’t know why I never ventured out of my earring post slump, but I’m looking to add a few chic earrings I can dress up or down to my jewelry collection!

I mean, when am I not looking for these items?! But for full transparency in this post I thought I would add this on here. I am also looking to elevate my jewelry collection to pieces that will last me forever instead of simply just a season.

ELEVATED BASICS

This means investing in wardrobe basics such as high quality denim, plain t-shirts I can layer, and sweaters.

When I say high-quality I don’t mean breaking the bank or feeling uncomfortable about spending too much money on an item. One of my favorite places to purchase elevated basics is Old Navy because you get amazing quality for the price you pay!

SUEDE HANDBAG

I have always wanted a brown suede handbag for fall/winter since these are chic, classic, and never go out of style. This year I’ve got my eye out for a bag I can wear for many season to come!

CHUNKY CARDIGANS

If I could sum up my outfits last fall/winter it would be cardigans! I wore them with almost every single look and the chunkier the better. I love the texture a chunky sweater brings to an outfit.

BOOTS

Last year I purchased a bunch of booties so this year I am going to be purchasing a few over the knee boots and calf length boots.

MAKEUP BAG

My makeup bag needs replaced ASAP! Currently, my bag is falling apart at the seams so of all the items on this list, this is the one I truly need to get.

ATHLEISURE ITEMS

This past year I’ve really started to grow my athleisure wardrobe. It’s so easy on the weekends to throw on a pair of leggings, shirt, and cardigan and call it a day!

When Chuck and I were on our honeymoon in Paris back in 2016 all I packed were cute outfits. This turned out to be a MASSIVE mistake, because all Chuck and I did in Paris was walk around and explore. One day we walked 20 miles, I’m not kidding! I didn’t even think to pack anything as practical as a good pair of shoes that wouldn’t give me blisters.

From that trip I learned to always pack a pair of practical shoes that may not be the cutest, but they will allow me to explore in comfort!

Going to the beach?! A great pair of flip flops is perfect for the sand!

Headed to a big city to explore?! Pack a pair of white tennis shoes which is totally on trend this year!

You see where I am going with this! I totally understand wearing cute outfits for those Insta worthy moments, but sometimes comfort is king!

A GREAT PERSONAL TOILETRIES KIT

There’s no worse feeling than getting to your destination and not having all the toiletries products you need! We all know to add our toothbrush, facewash, and makeup. Today I want to share with you an item you are definitely going to want to add to your kit!

Decorating my home seasonally is one of my favorite things to do each quarter. I find it really relaxing to pull out the decorations and go shopping for a few new ones!

Here are tips on how to decorate your home seasonally on a budget!

ADD FAUX FOLIAGE

This is my biggest tip! Real flowers, plants, and succulents are expensive and a lot of maintenance to keep alive. Faux foliage you can purchase once and pull out season after season!

My favorite place to shop to get ALL of my faux foliage around my house is Michael’s! They usually have their faux plants, flowers, and garland at 40-50% off. Wait for a holiday weekend or start shopping a few weeks earlier than the season and I promise they will have some sort of sale!

CHANGE UP YOUR ROOM ACCESSORIES

Just like an outfit isn’t complete without a few accessories the same goes for the room you are decorating! Purchase a few accessories to include seasonal pillows, blankets, and wall decor and watch your space transform.

My favorite places to shop for home decor are Target and Kirkland’s. Their items are great quality for the price. Most of their pillows, blankets, and wall decor are under $30!

PICK A THEME FOR YOUR ROOM

When seasonally decorating it’s important to pick a theme for your room. For example, when decorating your home for fall do you want your home to be more Halloween or harvest focused?

Having a theme helps when shopping so you don’t overspend or purchase items that won’t look great in your space!

The one item I’ve been the most hesitant to replace is my face moisturizer because it’s one of the products I’m really selective about using. To replace my current moisturizer, I would have to find a product that far surpasses the one I am currently using.

My skin is mostly SUPER dry with some areas that are combination. The wrong product can make my skin look dull and feel itchy since I’m not getting the moisture I need.

A few weeks ago, I finally decided to take the leap and look at other products I could use to replace my current moisturizer.

I FOUND A MOISTURIZER AND IT’S AMAZING!

The face moisturizers I fell in love with come in red jars and are pure magic!

Here are the two products I’m talking about:

Olay Regenerist Whip Face Moisturizer

This moisturizer is really light and perfect for oily, combination skin. Olay Whip is very hydrating and I love how quickly it absorbs into my skin! This moisturizer is perfect to use as a make-up primer for glowing skin.

Olay Regenerist Micro-Sculpting Cream (MSC)

This moisturizer is great for normal to dry skin. It keeps your skin hydrated throughout the day and firms your skin over time! This is the moisturizer that works perfectly with my skin. I use it day and night. Over the last few weeks my skin always feels hydrated and healthy! The red jar also looks really luxe sitting on my vanity.

Both Products include:

• Niacinamide (Vitamin B3) – a hardworking and exciting ingredient because it regenerates surface cells and strengthens skin’s natural moisture barrier. In fact, each Regenerist red jar contains as much B3 as 2,500 cups of kale!
• Amino–Peptide Complex II – helps improve skin’s elasticity, smoothness and firmness.

I use the Regenerist MSC day and night! My skin feels hydrated and healthy.

This outfit has been my fall transition “uniform”! This dress comes in a few colors and runs TTS (true to size). I am wearing a medium. Add a hat and boots to complete this fall look!

This cami is my absolute favorite at the moment and perfect to pair with cardigans or layer under sweaters for fall! My cardi runs TTS and I’m wearing a medium. My shoes are the best Gucci dupes I have ever found and I linked my exact pair! Go up half a size.

This cardigan is SO chunky and cozy! I sized down to a S/M because with chunkier textures I don’t want to look too bulky. My faux leather leggings are $15 and run TTS! I am wearing a medium. I linked all my exact items below.

My tunic sweater comes in a ton of different colors and it’s under $40. It’ runs TTS and it’s meant to fit oversized. I’m wearing a medium. The black snakeskin slip on shoes run TTS.

Recently, I’ve wanted to shake up my makeup routine and find products that don’t make me cringe when I hear the total at the checkout counter. I’ve stuck to the same products over the years and wanted to know if I could find the same quality, or better, for less money!

That’s what inspired my Budget Beauty finds over on my Instagram Stories! You can also click on the link to watch my Instagram highlight titled “Budget Beauty” to watch the full video review!

Over the past two weeks I’ve tested out two different makeup brands-Makeup Revolution and e.l.f Cosmetics to see what worked and what didn’t.

Just for reference I purchased all of these products at Ulta Beauty! I will link all of them in this post and everything is also linked on the LikeToKnow.It app! Follow me on the app to shop all my daily looks!

I was SHOCKED at the results!

Keep reading to find out!

EYESHADOW PALLETE: $9.99

Pros: This palette is extremely pigmented and blends like a dream! I didn’t have any issues when layering the colors and every eye look I’ve created I’ve loved! Since the day I purchased this palette I’ve used it to create my makeup looks.

Cons: When picking up various shades there is both fall out in the pan and under your eyes. This isn’t a deal breaker for me at all, but I put it in the con section because some people don’t like fall out with their eyeshadow palettes.

Final Thoughts: This palette is TOTALLY worth the money and I love using it everyday.

CONCEALER: $7

Pros: This Makeup Revolution concealer is an EXACT dupe of the $27 Tarte Shape Tape! In fact, I prefer this concealer to the Tarte Shape Tape concealer because it has a more natural finish. This concealer is super full coverage, blends really well, and doesn’t crease under your eyes.

I’ve worn this concealer every single day since I’ve purchased it and I can’t recommend this enough.

Cons: I honestly don’t have anything bad to say about this concealer.

Final Thoughts: Purchase immediately! You won’t regret it!

SETTING POWDER: $8 (shade: “Light Banana”)

Pros: This setting powder doesn’t settle into fine lines and gives your skin a flawless finish. I’ve tried other powders that make my skin look dry or flaky, but this setting powder gives my skin a natural glow. You also get 1.12 oz of product which is an insane amount of setting powder.

In comparison, I used to use the Hourglass translucent powder and it was .36 oz for $46. You are getting FOUR TIMES more product for $8!

Cons: The only downside to this product is that is doesn’t come in a jar that holds the product once you shake out the powder. I did find a solution to this thanks to Amazon and linked it above!

Final Thoughts: BEST setting powder I have every used and I cannot believe that it is only $8! I would pay way more for this!

MAKEUP REVOLUTION LIQUID LIPSTICK: $6 (shades “Kockout” and “Ballerina”)

Pros: This liquid lipstick is one of the most lightweight formulas I have ever worn and super comfortable to have on your lips all day long. It doesn’t leave your lips sticky, dried out, or cracked when worn throughout the day. It last about 6 hours of wear time before I noticed the shade begin to fade a little bit.

Cons: The lighter shades may need two coats to get the opacity you are looking for in a liquid lipstick. Again, this is not a deal breaker for me at all, but I wanted to add that note in here for those who like to have one swipe and be done!

Final Thoughts: For $6 you can’t beat the formula and how comfortable the lipstick is to wear. I plan on purchasing more shades from the line! I love to use “Knockout” as a base to mix with other pink liquid lipsticks to create a custom peach lipstick!

e.l.f Cosmetics Liquid Lipstick: $5 (shade “Mauvelous”)

This is the shade I have on in the first pic of this post!

Pros: Just like the Makeup Revolution liquid lipstick this formula is super lightweight and comfortable to wear on your lips all day! t doesn’t leave your lips sticky, dried out, or cracked when worn throughout the day.

Cons: There isn’t a huge shade range which is a bummer because I want to add more hues!

Final Thoughts: Totally worth the $5 and this liquid lipstick is going to be a makeup staple in my makeup looks!

e.l.f Blush Palette: $6

Pros: The two shades on the left hand side of the palette are beautiful! They are pigmented and easy to blend. Definitely apply this blush with a light hand because of how pigmented the blush shades are!

Cons: The bronzer in this palette was bad! It was very orange when applied and didn’t look natural at all. It was also hard to blend out. I ended up switching bronzer halfway through because of how bad I thought it made my skin look.

Final Thoughts: I recommend skipping out on this palette and purchasing an individual e.l.f blush instead.

e.l.f sponge: $4

Pros: I loved everything about this sponge! It has both a tapered tip to get into those crevices of your face and also a flat surface to easily apply setting powder.

Cons: I don’t have any!

Final Thoughts: I prefer this sponge over my BeautyBlender any day! I highly recommend purchasing!

e.l.f. Brow Pencil: $2 (shade neutral brown)

Pros: This formula is amazing and I loved that you don’t need to sharpen the pencil- you simply need to twist the top! I also love that is comes with a spoolie on the other end to easily blend the product into your brows.

Cons: Half of the brow pencil fell out of the applicator the second time I used it. The fix was easy and I put the pencil back into the applicator and it held it in there, but still something to share with you!

Final Thoughts: Loved this brow product, especially for the price! While there is quality issue with half the product falling out during the second use, it didn’t ruin using the product and for $2 I didn’t bug me that much.

e.l.f. Wow Brow: $4

Pros: This product does exactly what it says it will! It fills in your brows while also acting as a brow gel. I loved this product so much!

Cons: I don’t have any cons!

Final Thoughts: HIGHLY recommend adding this to your makeup routine!

OVERALL ASSESMENT

Overall, I was shocked at the high quality and lower price tag of these products. With the exception of the blush palette I’ve started implementing these products into my everyday makeup routine!

I love knowing that I am not breaking the bank while maintaining my beauty routine!

A pack of three headbands is $11.99 and these are made of a very soft jersey material. I love the pops of color and now these will be perfect for transitional looks into fall! They are very comfortable on my head and I can wear them all day! Such a great value!

SHIRT– My shirt runs true to size (TTS) and I am wearing a medium. It is a soft material and doesn’t feel cheap at all. I love that this top is under $20 and totally on trend this season. I am going to layer this shirt with lots of cardis this fall!

SHORTS– My shorts aren’t from Amazon but are some of my favorite shorts this season. They run TTS and I’m wearing a size 6. They aren’t tight around the thigh area which I love!

I LOVE this wallet so much and it’s the perfect Louis Vuitton Zippy wallet dupe for under $20! The reviews on Amazon said that it had a weird sent when you open it out of the packaging but I didn’t notice any type of weird smell. It’s faux leather and has lot of room on the inside.

I am super happy with this purchase!

JEANS– These jeans are $32, have a tie at the waist, and run TTS. I am SO obsessed with these jeans! I’ve been wearing them non-stop even though it’s over 90 degrees outside in North Carolina. These denim have a more relaxed boyfriend fit and are longer so you can roll them at the bottom.

Hands down one of my favorite purchases from Amazon ever!

BODYSUIT– This bodysuit is a wardrobe staple. It runs TTS and I am wearing a medium. I love that this bodysuit is not skintight and will look amazing layered with so many fall looks and transitional outfits this season!

This white bodysuit is the same exact one as the bodysuit above, just in a different color! I am wearing a medium for reference. I wanted to show you how easy it is to style a bodysuit from summer to a more transitional look into fall!

LIFESTYLE CHANGES WHEN CHUCK IS DEPLOYED

For the duration of our 8 years together Chuck and I have always been a military couple. We both met at West Point in 2011 and ever since then at least one, or both of us, has been in the Army. Part of the military lifestyle is getting moved to various places around the country or getting deployed.

Throughout our 8 years together we’ve done a little over 4 years together long distance. It can be difficult going from being a team and tackling everyday life together to then being by yourself for an extended period of time!

Currently, Chuck is deployed overseas for a considerable amount of time. This means when he’s gone it’s up to me to not only run my business Blush & Camo, but to also take care of our dogs, complete all day to day tasks that need to get accomplished. This means grocery shopping, cleaning the house, mowing the lawn, laundry, and scheduling appointments for the dogs. The list of things that needs to get done goes on and on!

Shout-out to all the military families who also have kids! I struggle with the day to day adulting activities that need to happen without having kids.

When Chuck is deployed it takes a while for me to adjust to my new “normal” and get into a new routine. Some days there doesn’t feel like there is enough time in the day to get everything done by myself and successfully run my blog.

After four years of experience of long-distance relationship experience I’m going to share my top tips for tackling your everyday life head on while your significant other is away!

TOP 3 TIPS FOR LONG DISTANCE

• LEAN INTO YOUR FRIENDS AND FAMILY

It’s so important, especially in those first few weeks to lean into your friends and family! Try and get out of the house as much as possible to stay social.

• FIND A HOBBY THAT YOU LOVE

While your significant other is away you may have additional free time to yourself. Take this time to explore a new hobby or activity you’ve always been interested in!

• PUT SYSTEMS IN PLACE TO HELP WITH EVERYDAY TASKS

When Chuck is gone I evaluate my schedule to try and see where I might need additional help. For example, I like to mow the lawn and do laundry, but I really hate to vacuum. I don’t think I can overemphasize enough how much I hate to vacuum, especially with all the dirt, sticks, and Elvis hair (Frankie doesn’t shed!) brought into our home every day.

That’s why I’m so thankful Chuck and I got our first smart home product from Amazon- a robotic vacuum!

Our robotic vacuum is amazing! It saves me time throughout the entire week because I don’t have to take time out of my schedule to vacuum every day. Our vacuum is super simple to use!

It can turn itself on and off at specific times or can be remotely controlled! Added bonus – if you have Alexa, you don’t even have to stop what you are doing! Just voice command the vacuum to clean and off it goes!

It comes with a charging station and is quiet while in use. Pet hair is also no problem for these mighty little cleaning machines, although it did take Frankie and Elvis a little bit to get used to seeing this robot roaming around the house!

Smart products like this alleviate stress in my life while Chuck is gone and enable me to focus on all the other adulting things I need to get done on a daily basis and it also gives me some additional time to spend running my business!

I typed in Old Navy and the picture below is what my screen looks like! Ibotta is telling me I will earn 2% cash back by shopping online at Old Navy.

Then, I click the red shop button and it takes me to the Old Navy website on my phone where I can shop for cute summer outfits and earn cash back!

I normally don’t shop too much at Nordstrom because their price points are a little higher then what I would like to spend, but this sale puts SO MANY brand names at an accessible price point.

For those who are new to my blog I graduated from West Point in 2013 and was an Army Officer for five years before becoming a full-time blogger in 2018. My last duty station was Fort Campbell, KY and my husband is currently stationed there and overseas!

The military community continues, and will always, hold a special place in my heart. That’s why I am so excited to share a fun, family event happening July 6th in Nashville!

I also used to ice skate growing up and have fond memories of getting on the ice every weekend. I recently got back into a skating rink and let’s just say I don’t have the same skills that I used to!

The event I am talking about is SKATEFEST!

If haven’t heard of this event before I share all the details with you in this post!

Learn to Skate USA is partnering with U.S. Figure Skating to host five adaptive SkateFests across the USA. The greater Nashville area is one of those locations this event is coming to Saturday, July 6th!

SkateFest is a free event designed for Active Duty military, veterans and their families. All costs are covered to include skate rentals, instruction, and adaptive equipment for those with a disability.

The event is a fun and welcoming activity for people of all ages to go and try something new in a safe environment.

Scott Hamilton is also making an appearance at SkateFest! He is a retired American figure skater and Olympic gold medalist. He won four consecutive U.S. championships, four consecutive World Championships, and a gold medal in the 1984 Olympics!

The session begins with a comprehensive off-ice orientation and then an on-ice session where instructors teach skills tailored to each skater’s skill level.

All the instructors are background-checked, certified Learn to Skate USA instructors are on hand to ensure you have a great time and learn a few skating skills!

TOP TIPS FOR HEALTHY HAIR

Talk to your hairdresser about the integrity of your hair!

I do this every time I see my hair stylist. I’ll ask if my hair has too much breakage, dry, split ends, etc. By asking this simple question every time you see your hairdresser you’re able to switch up your routine (i.e. not curling it so often or washing it less!), your hairdresser starts to notice patterns, and you ensure your hair stays healthy.

Invest in quality tools!

If you are someone who likes to style their hair and put hot tools on them I highly recommend investing in high quality tools! My favorite brand is Sultra Beauty and I’ll link the exact products I use below.

One time I didn’t bring my tools and used a hair dryer I knew was going to damage my hair. Sure enough, I burned my hair using it and it took months for that damaged hair to grow back.

The two products below are the two products I swear by!

Know the products your hair needs!

Since I have blonde hair I use a purple shampoo to maintain it’s color and hair oil since my hair can get dried out due to the highlighting. I also love using a heat protectant prior to putting any type of hot tools on my hair!

Talk to your hairdresser about the texture, integrity, and needs of your hair to get the right products within your budget!

WHAT’S YOUR NATURAL HAIR COLOR?

My natural hair color is medium brown and I’ve been highlighting my hair ash blonde for about five years now! If you look at my root color in these photos that’s my natural hair color!

HOW DO YOU GET YOUR BEACH WAVES?

I used to be really bad at curling my hair when I first started six years ago! Then, I found a curling wand that made the entire process easier. I use my Sultra Beauty Bombshell 1″ wand and I’ve never used any other curling product to create my waves. Here are the steps I do to get my curls:

1.) Spray my roots with Batiste Dry Shampoo

2.) Take 1″ -1.5″ sections of hair and curl away from my face

3.) Finish the look with Garnier Fructis Flexible Control hairspray

4.) Comb my curls through with my fingers to separate and give a more relaxed look to them!

DO YOU USE PURPLE SHAMPOO?

Yes! I love using my purple shampoo and I use it every time I wash my hair (I usually wash my hair once or twice a week!). I’ll link the purple shampoo I am using below!

HOW OFTEN DO YOU PUT HEAT ON YOUR HAIR?

I try to limit the amount of heat I put on my hair to 2-3 times a week. My hair is naturally straight and doesn’t hold a curl very well, so I’m experimenting with straight hairstyles at the moment!

WHAT HAIR ACCESSORIES ARE YOU CURRENTLY LOVING?

HAVE YOU EVER HAD EXTENSIONS?

It truly depends on the integrity of my hair. For the past six months I’ve gotten my hair highlighted every 8 weeks, but alternate between a full and partial foil.

Today I’m sharing my full nighttime skincare routine and linking all the products I use! I think skincare is so important! For the past few months I felt like I wasn’t super happy with all the products I was using, but this past month I finally found products that work really well together, give me results, and I feel like my skin looks better then it ever has!

1.) Neutrogena Makeup Wipes

This is the first step to my nighttime skincare routine. These wipes take off all my makeup to include mascara with just one wipe. I use the hydrating wipes since my skin is so dry.

STYLE TIP #1: DON’T WEAR WHITE

This may seem obvious, but I have been to weddings where there was a least one girl wearing some shade of white. I highly recommend not wearing any hue of white when attending a wedding. Off-white, cream, ivory, or even dresses that incorporate other colors but are majority white I recommend staying away from. There are so many dresses to choose from and you don’t want anyone to think you’re trying to take attention away from the bride on her big day.

STYLE TIP #2: THINK ABOUT THE WEDDING’S DRESS CODE

Each wedding has it’s own “dress code”. Some wedding’s are super casual and you may already have a dress in your closet that is appropriate. Other wedding’s are more fancy and have a black tie dress code.

A general rule of thumb for wedding attire is the fancier the dress code the longer your dress needs to be. For black-tie weddings a formal gown is usually the best call, whereas for casual wedding attire you can wear a summer dress you already own!

Normally the dress code will be on the wedding invitation!

STYLE TIP #3: DON’T LOOK LIKE A BRIDESMAID

If you are a wedding guest and not in the wedding party you don’t want to choose a dress that looks like a bridesmaid dress. I know you’re probably thinking how the heck am I supposed to know what the bridesmaid dresses look like?!

A good rule of thumb is to look at the wedding invitation (usually a great indicator of the wedding colors) and stay away from any long maxi dress that resembles any of the colors on the invitation!

I’ve been getting so many questions about blogging on my Instagram, so I this is my second post in my “About Blogging” series! You can read my first post “How I Grew My Pinterest Monthly Viewers From 200,000 to 1 Million in Less Than a Month“.

Today’s post is going to break down how to find balance blogging while working full-time.

Many of you are in the beginning stages of starting a blog, or are thinking of starting a blog! One of the stressors I’ve heard from you is that you are nervous to start a blog while working full time. You’re already wearing so many hats and blogging can seem overwhelming.

Let’s start this post off with some good news! The first is that all full-time bloggers started off working on their blog part-time or just a few hours a day!

I also totally understand your stress or worries about not finding balance! When I first started my blog I was an active duty Army Officer with almost zero flexibility on my schedule.

I balanced a full time job and blogging for almost four years before finally taking the plunge and blogging full-time!

In today’s post I’ll share the top tips I used to find balance between working full time and also blogging!

ARE YOU A MORNING OR NIGHT PERSON?

Why am I asking this? The reason is because you do your best work during these times of the day. A night owl wouldn’t want to wake up earlier in the morning to create a blog post- that might be a miserable experience for them. And vice versa!

A morning person wouldn’t want to stay up until 1am creating graphics for their blog or social media because this is not when they are their most creative.

Find out the time of day when you are the most relaxed and awake. Is it in the morning or evening? Then, see if you can fit a half hour to an hour of blogging in this timeframe.

When I first started my blog I knew I was a morning person. So, I would get to work an hour before everyone else got there and wrote blog posts and prepared my social media for the day. That was when I was the most creative and produced my best content! I also felt like I didn’t have to worry about my blogging tasks for the rest of the day and could focus on my work at hand.

So ask yourself, am I an early riser or a night owl?!

FIND A RHYTHM THAT’S RIGHT FOR YOU AND STICK TO IT

Whether you are in the beginning stages of starting a blog, have been blogging for awhile, or haven’t even purchased your URL yet this is one of the best tips I can share with you for finding balance while blogging and working full-time.

Find your daily rhythm and stick to that as much as you can.

For example, I knew I was a morning person so everyday I would show up to work an hour early to knock out a majority of my blogging tasks. As my blog grew so did my daily requirements. I didn’t want to take time away from my husband and I at the end of the day so I had to adjust my daily rhythm to fit everything in.

Here’s what I did:

• Work an hour on my blog before my work day started.
• Dedicated my entire lunch hour to working on the blog.
• Once I got home from work I dedicated all the free time I had until Chuck arrived home.

Anything that I didn’t get completed that day got carried over into the next day!

When I first started my blog an hour a day was all I needed, but the more my blog grew I started spending 3-4 hours a day on my site! This was exciting, but also meant that I needed to stick to a similar schedule everyday.

If I hadn’t stuck to this schedule there’s no way that I would have completed everything needed to run a successful blog. I would have felt very scattered and stressed instead of knocking out one task at a time.

BATCH EVERYTHING

This is a huge time saving tip! When balancing blogging and working full time you want to batch everything. For example, I used to take a month’s worth of photos for my blog in a span of two hours!! This was because I did not have time each weekend to shoot content.

I also batched my blog posts! Sometimes writing them months in advance so I knew I always had content to publish should something come up at work or in life!

Batching simply means taking tasks such as photography, writing, checking emails, and social media and doing them all at once.

Even today I try and only get on social media once in the morning and once in the evening. This way I don’t get sucked into scrolling on IG and wasting valuable time!

What are ways that you can start batching your blogging tasks today?!

YOU DON’T HAVE TO DO IT ALL AND STAY COMMITTED

Blogging can seem overwhelming no matter what stage you are in! Even now there are days when I get overwhelmed by everything that needs to get done, and as my own boss I always feel like I should be doing something.

It’s OK if you can’t write that blog post, create that IG Story, or post on IG every single day. Life gets in the way and finding balance is tough. Allow yourself some grace and know that every day you are working towards your goal and doing the absolute best you can. You can’t ask yourself to do more than that! Stay committed to your blogging goals and you’ll succeed!

Today I’m partnering with Walgreens to share a chronic condition I deal with on a daily basis and how I handle this condition every day.

Starting when I was a teenager I started to have back problems. It began in my lower back and eventually made its way up into my upper back as well. I ignored the pain for years and years thinking this was something that I would just “get over” and my back wouldn’t hurt anymore.

During my time both at West Point and in the Army there were many demands on my body. From swim practices (I was on the swim team at West Point), running, and weight lifting at West Point to ruck marches and field training exercises in the Army; I was constantly putting weight on my back to meet the demands.

The pain kept building and building over the years and I simply kept ignoring it thinking the pain would eventually go away. I never had an injury during all my years of swimming except for the occasional ache or pain that went away after a few weeks.

Then, last January the pain was so unbearable I finally went to the doctor and found out I had two bulged discs in my lower back. The discs were pressing on my spinal nerve causing pain to shoot down to my hip and leg.

After receiving this diagnosis I was shocked. I never had an injury before, and while bulging discs are common, there is no official treatment for them other than going to physical therapy and taking medication to help with the pain. When I was first diagnosed I was on a steroid that I needed to take and it was important I took the medication every day as prescribed. This way I was able to continue meeting all the Army standards while I was in the military and I didn’t cause more damage to my back while I was transitioning out.

Even today, I have to take pain medication as prescribed to help maintain my pain levels so I can focus on creating the best content possible!

This chronic condition is something I will have to maintain my entire life so it doesn’t turn into a herniated disc or worse.

According to the National Health Council 133 million Americans have generally incurable and ongoing, chronic diseases representing more than 40% of the total population in this country. By 2020 this number is projected to grow to 157 million Americans with 81 million Americans having multiple conditions.

This is such a cute top, but runs a little small so size up! I needed a large. It’s also cropped.

If you’re tall this romper is NOT for you. It’s wayyy too small in the torso area. If you’re petite this romper is super cute and you won’t have any issues! I’m wearing a large and it’s wayyyy to small.

Loveeee this color and the fact that it’s a romper trying to look like a top and shorts. I’m wearing a medium but needed a large. If you’re tall I recommend trying the Francesca’s rompers on in the store! They can be short in the torso area.

I’m OBSESSED with this skater dress! It’s a floral print, but runs small so size up! I’m wearing a large.

My fave look from the haul! Both items are a medium and TTS. This skirt you could dress up or down. I purchased both these items!

I love this pattern mixing! Both top and shorts are TTS and I’m wearing a medium in both. This top is a bodysuit and would look amazing with skirts too.

This knitted tank is sooo comfy and would look amazing dresses up or down! I’m wearing a medium and it’s TTS .

My shorts are chambray and midrise! I love that it’s loose around the thigh area. I’m wearing a medium and they are TTS!

Since I live in Nashville I get lots of DM’s on Instagram asking for recommendations to do in Music City! I recently created a Nashville Bachelorette Party Guide, but wanted to also create a fun post about what to do in Nashville for quick girl’s trip if you only had 48 hours!

I narrowed down all the options for a simple itinerary! If you are looking to take some Insta-Worthy pictures during your stay here in Nashville make sure you check out my Most Instagram Worthy Spots in Nashville Post!

WHERE TO STAY:

• Domio: The cutest properties in Nashville! This is perfect if you have a large group of girls! Every square inch of this space is adorable!
• Hotel Thompson: Located in the Gulch you’re close to just about everything Nashville has to offer or a quick Uber ride away!
• The Omni Hotel: This is one of the most well known hotels in Nashville and they also have a pool, spa, and restaurants to eat at! Located in the middle of downtown!

FRIDAY NIGHT:

Make reservations at Barcelona Wine Bar.This restaurant is tapas style with Mediterranean, Spanish, and South African influences. You can order a lot of little dishes to share with the group.

After dinner walk around the corner to Old Glory. This is a speakeasy that doesn’t have a sign on the door and it’s very unassuming. You need to know about it to go in. The drinks and vibe are great!

SATURDAY

BRUNCH

Make a reservation at Pinewood Social! This is such a fun place to go in Nash! You can eat at their traditional seating, or schedule ahead of time to bowl while you sip on cocktails and eat! This place is always packed so I recommend calling and making a reservation at least a week in advance.

ACTIVITIES DURING THE DAY

Make your way over to the pedestrian bridge which isn’t too far away from Pinewood Social. There’s lots of parking by this bridge! You and your girlfriends can get the best Insta worthy shots from this bridge and a beautiful view of the skyline as your backdrop.

The bridge leads you directly to onto Broadway for some day drinking! The two bars I love to go to are:

• Tootsies: Located right on Broadway Street and it’s a world famous honky-tonk bar! I’ve been to this bar more times then I can count and I love it for the relaxed vibe and live music!
• Florida Georgia Line Bar: This bar is SO much fun! They have live music on the first floor and the second floor has an amazing rooftop bar and a dance floor where they blare your favorite songs to dance too! I always take my friends here.

DINNER

Make a reservation at NADA. This restaurant is one of my faves in Nashville and is right down the street from Broadway (I recommend getting an Uber still)! When you go make sure to order their queso because it’s the best queso I’ve had in my life! They have both indoor and outdoor seating to eat. Oh, and the interior is super cute too!

After dinner you can go back on Broadway or try out some rooftop bars for amazing views and drinks! My faves are below.

• L27 Rooftop Bar and Lounge: This is my FAVE bar in Nashville! The views are amazing, the drinks and food are delicious, and they have live music! If you have a party of 6 or more you’ll need to make a reservation on their website. Go here at sunset to get the most Insta Worthy pics from your bachelorette trip!
• L.A Jackson: Located on top of the Thompson Hotel they have an indoor/outdoor rooftop bar! I recently went here during a blogger’s trip and I highly recommend ordering the Sparkling Rose!

SUNDAY

You need to go to Milk & Honey for brunch on Sunday! This place is soooo good and located right in the heart of the Gulch. Their craft coffee is amazing! This place is always packed, but worth the wait. If you are waiting you can check out Kittenish (Jesse James Decker’s clothing store!) or Uncommon James (Kristin Cavallari’s store). You can also find Amelia’s Flower Truck in the Gluch on Sunday’s too (so cute to take pictures)!

This was one of my favorite pieces I tried on during my Old Navy haul! This cute romper runs TTS and I have on a medium. This romper has ruffles, pockets, and isn’t tight around the thigh area! I highly recommend this romper to ya’ll!

This dress is SO cute and runs TTS! It comes in a ton of patterns and colors to choose from . It’s currently $15! I’m wearing a medium.

These shorts are an sale for $13! They run TTS and the chambray material is sooo comfy! They aren’t high waisted though and I’m all about high waisted items at the moment. They aren’t tight around the thigh area which I love!

Obsessed with this stripe top and love the details! It runs big so you can size down. I’m wearing a medium in the top!

These shorts aren’t my favorite because they were kinda tight in the thigh area. I would recommend trying these shorts on in the store before purchasing since the fit was not the best! I’m wearing a size 6.

My top is super cute, runs TTS, and comes in lots of other colors . I’m wearing a medium! The only thing I will say about the white top is that it is a little see through. The other colors don’t have this issue!

My shorts are the boyfriend fit and have a true denim material. They run TTS! These are the lighter wash of the boyfriend jeans above and are made of a true denim material. These were not tight around the thigh area! I’m wearing a 6.

This chambray dress is currently 50% off and is $24! No code needed!! I’m wearing a small (regular, not tall) so you could size down! These lavender shoes are so comfy and on sale for $19 ! I’ve worn them every day since I purchased them!

Run, don’t walk, to grab this jean jacket. The fit, wash, and style were perfect for spring!! I’m wearing a medium and it’s TTS!

I recently took out my extensions and cut almost 5 inches off my hair! It was a huge change, and I was beyond nervous to do it, but in the end I made the right choice!

YOU’RE READY FOR A CHANGE

The first, and most obvious clue that you are ready to take the plunge and chop a few inches (or 10!) off your hair is when you are ready for a change!

This has happened twice in one year for me!

I got out of the Army August of 2018 and wore my hair in a bun for 9 years. Getting out of the Army was a major change and I wanted my hair to reflect that! I wanted my hairstyle to go in the exact opposite direction of how I’d worn my hair for almost a decade. So, in August I got super long extensions and loved every second of my mermaid hair!

Then, after going through a phase of having super long hair I realized I wanted a hairstyle that was more myself! I have gone through a lot of personal growth these past few months of getting out of the Army, becoming a home owner, and working full time as a blogger!

I wanted my hair to reflect these accomplishments!

I was ready for another change.

That’s when I knew I was ready to cut my hair short!

YOU CAN’T STOP THINKING ABOUT IT

Once you make the decision to cut your hair short you keep thinking about it! You’ll be flipping through a magazine or watching tv and start wondering what each woman would look like with short hair. Or, maybe that was just me!

I honestly could’t stop thinking about short hair! Would it look good on me? Was I making a mistake? Do I have the face for short hair? How would I style it? Can anyone pull off short hair?

These were all the things I thought about for about two months while I was trying to make my mind up!

YOU START PINING SHORT HAIRSTYLES

Thank goodness for Pinterest! During the few months I was debating cutting my hair short I pinned SO many photos to my Pinterest! I looked at different lengths, styles, and cuts!

Pinterest is a great tool to help find short hairstyles for your face shape. I have a longer face shape so I searched for “Oval Face Short Hairstyles”.

YOU START LOOK AT BEFORE AND AFTER PICTURES OF OTHER WOMEN

I used Pinterest, Google, and Instagram handles to search before and after hairstyles of women who made the jump and cut their hair short!

Instagram was especially helpful because there were many bloggers who recently cut their hair short so I was able to see how they styled it, when they made the leap, before and after pictures, and they all seemed super happy about their decision!

YOU DON’T CRINGE WHEN YOU THINK ABOUT NOT HAVING LONG HAIR

Last, but certainly not least, is… if you don’t cringe when you think about not having long hair this is a great indication that you are ready to make the chop!

If you were to ask me a year ago if I would cut my hair short I would have looked at you like you had three heads and told you absolutely not! The idea of not having long hair was a nightmare for me!

When I was weighing the pros and cons of chopping my hair the thought of not having long hair for awhile didn’t scare me at all. In fact, I kind of wanted my long hair gone!

HAIR CUT FINAL THOUGHTS

For those wondering if I love my haircut the answer is YES! I am so happy I made the decision to cut it and wonder why I didn’t do it sooner. I love that it takes me half the time to get ready in the morning and I feel that this hair is more of my personality!

LOOK #1: RED SUMMER DRESS

I love this red dress! The floral pattern is super cute and it comes with a matching belt to give definition in your waist. If you are taller, like myself, the skirt was a little short but not so short that it would prevent me from wearing the dress this summer.

This dress runs true to size (TTS) and I’m wearing a medium. This cute piece is only $20!

SHOP THIS OUTFIT

LOOK #2: FLORAL MINI DRESS

This is the dress I was the most excited about! The fit is amazing and the print is super cute. I even love that the dress is a mint hue.

The only thing about this dress is that it is a little sheer so I would wear neutral undergarments when styling this dress!

I highly recommend this dress to you and I’m wearing a large. this dress runs small so I recommend sizing up!

LOOK #3: STRIPED RUFFLE DRESS

I wasn’t expecting much from this dress. In fact, it was more of an after thought when I put it into my cart. This stripe ruffle dress is so cute and I’m so glad I purchased it!

The material is not sheer at all and I love that the bows on the shoulders are attached so you don’t have to worry about the straps coming undone. I love the skirt detail and how the dress flows when you move!

The only thing about this dress is that it is really low cut. I recommend wearing a bandu top when styling this dress.

I am wearing a large, but definitely think I could have worn a medium.

LOOK #4: STRIPED MIDI DRESS

This dress was another amazing piece from SheIn. Of all the pieces, this was my least favorite because I already have a romper that is this exact print and color from another store.

The fit was great and the material was not sheer at all. I loved that it came with a matching belt to give your waist some definition.

I am wearing a medium and this dress runs TTS! This is the most versatile item from my SheIn haul because of the longer length. You can dress this piece up or down! Oh, and it’s only $11!

LOOK #5: STRIPED T-SHIRT

For $10 this t-shirt is a steal! It’s a cropped fit and would look super cute with high waisted shorts, jeans, or skirt. The material was stretchy and felt thick. I also loved the pastel colored stripes.

This top runs TTS and I am wearing a medium!

FINAL THOUGHTS

I’m not going to lie, I wasn’t expecting much from my SheIn haul. It had been a few years since I had purchased items from this brand. I’ve had both positive and negative experiences with the quality of their items.

I thought half the items I purchased for this haul would be great and the other half not so great. I never would have guessed I would love every single item!

I highly recommend all these pieces to you, especially if you’re looking to add a few items to your closet on a budget!

Today is one of my MOST REQUESTED posts of all time! Since I live in Nashville I get lots of DM’s on Instagram asking for Bachelorette Party recommendations! I have been holding off on creating this post because I really wanted to try out these locations to ensure I was giving great recommendations.

It’s finally here and I hope you are able to create a fun itinerary from the recommendations below! If you are looking to take some Insta-Worthy pictures during your stay here in Nashville make sure you check out my Most Instagram Worthy Spots in Nashville Post!

WHERE TO STAY:

• Domio: The cutest properties in Nashville! This is perfect if you have a large group of girls! Every square inch of this space is adorable!
• Hotel Thompson: Located in the Gulch you’re close to just about everything Nashville has to offer or a quick Uber ride away!
• The Omni Hotel: This is one of the most well known hotels in Nashville and they also have a pool, spa, and restaurants to eat at! Located in the middle of downtown!

WHERE TO EAT:

BRUNCH

• Cafe Roze: My favorite hidden gem in Nashville. Tucked away, this cafe has an amazing menu and drinks! Order the lavender latte- you won’t regret it!
• Pinewood Social: This is such a fun place to go in Nash! You can eat at their traditional seating, or schedule ahead of time to bowl while you sip on cocktails and eat! One of the places I highly recommend you add to your itinerary!
• Milk & Honey: This place is soooo good and located right in the heart of the Gulch. Their craft coffee is amazing!!
• M.L.Rose: This is the perfect place to go after a night of drinking. Make sure to order their waffle fries and cinnamon sugar donut holes. I’m getting hungry just writing this!
• Stay Golden: Located in East Nashville this is the cutest cafe and every corner is Insta Worthy! Their Avo Toast is delicious!
• Biscuit Love: Located in the heart of the Gulch try and get there early because there is always a line wrapped around the corner to get in!
• Restoration Hardware: Located in Green Hills this place is like a fairytale when you walk in! You can make a reservation ahead of time or grab a coffee or cocktail and wander through the 4 floors and 70,000 square feet filled with envious interior design inspo! Their top floor has a rooftop to take some cute group shots!

LUNCH

• Bartaco: I can’t tell you how much I love this restaurant. I’ve eaten here too many times to count! Located in 12S it’s perfect to go eat and then stop by the Draper James store for some shopping!
• Five Points Pizza: The BEST pizza in Nashville hands down. Located in East Nashville!
• Martin’s BBQ: If you love BBQ then you’ll love this place soooo much! Their menu is big so there is bound to be something for every girl in your group!

DINNER

• NADA: This restaurant is one of my faves in Nashville! When you go make sure to order their queso because it’s the best queso I’ve had in my life! They have both indoor and outdoor seating to eat. Oh, and the interior is super cute too!
• Barcelona Wine Bar: This restaurant is tapas style with Mediterranean, Spanish, and South African influences. This place is a bit more on the expensive side.
• Taco Mamacita: This restaurant brings you authentic Mexican food at reasonable prices! They have both outdoor and indoor seating. Their margaritas are super good!
• MOTO: If you love Italian food, you’ll love MOTO. Located right in the heart of the Gulch you’re within walking distance of a few amazing bars after!
• Virago: This sushi restaurant is also located right in the heart of the Gulch and boosts of some delicious and unique sushi rolls! This restaurant is on the pricier side, so I recommend going here for the one night during your Bachelorette trip with you want to go all out!

WHERE TO DRINK

• L27 Rooftop Bar and Lounge: This is my FAVE bar in Nashville! The views are amazing, the drinks and food are delicious, and they have live music! If you have a party of 6 or more you’ll need to make a reservation on their website. Go here at sunset to get the most Insta Worthy pics from your bachelorette trip!
• Florida Georgia Line Bar: This bar is SO much fun! They have live music on the first floor and the second floor has an amazing rooftop bar and a dance floor where they blare your favorite songs to dance too! I always take my friends here.
• Rare Bird: This bar is located at the top of the Noelle Hotel and boosts of amazing views and drinks. They also have small bites to eat! A fun fact about this hotel is during December the Noelle Hotel has a “secret” Christmas Bar that’s hidden in their hotel. They don’t advertise it and you have to know where to go to find it!
• L.A Jackson: Located on top of the Thompson Hotel they have an indoor/outdoor rooftop bar! I recently went here during a blogger’s trip and I highly recommend ordering the Sparkling Rose!
• Bobby Hotel Rooftop Bar: Located on top of the Bobby hotel right in the heart of Nashville!
• Tootsies: Located right on Broadway Street and it’s a world famous honky-tonk bar! I’ve been to this bar more times then I can count and I love it for the relaxed vibe and live music!

WHAT TO DO DURING THE DAY

• Pinewood Social: Not only does this place have a cute bowling alley, but they also have a pool to lounge at!
• Lemon Laine Oil Bar: Located in East Nashville you can sip on drinks and create your very own customized facial oil. This is $65/person and you need to make a reservation!
• Nashville Pedal Tavern: This is a very popular activity for bachelorette parties here in Nashville! Get a tour of the city by helping pedal a party bike, drink alcohol, and listen to music! Make sure you make a reservation well in advance because these book up fast! Can accommodate parties of up to 15 people.
• Ultimate Party Bus: Hop on a bus, listen to music, drink, and dance around the city! I’ve done these for a few bachelorette parties and they are so. much. FUN! Each party bus can accommodate up to 30 people!
