The Jews Cannot Be Erased By Darrow Miller Published By Credo House

This post was first published in October 10th, 2024.

In the last blog, we unearthed the blessing the Jewish people have become to the nations of the world.  They introduced the world to monotheism thus giving us a UNIverse which is predictable and discoverable.  They also introduced the world to a whole new language of freedom, giving us concepts that liberate our minds to think as God designed.

Now we return to our original question, why do people hate the Jews? It is not because of the circumstantial or superficial reasons listed earlier in our first blog. These may have given some rationale for antisemitism, but they are not the root of Jew hatred.

People hate the Jews for their worldview and their insistence upon the existence of a moral universe. People hate them for their theology and virtues. People curse them because their God established an ordered universe and laws to govern the universe. People hate the Jews because they place the wonder and glory of human sexuality into the framework of family formation. People hate the Jews because they challenge idolatry and pagan sexuality and stand for the worship of the Living God. They hate the Jews because they have held (not always lived out) the standard of a consecrated (as opposed to a desecrated) sexuality.

It’s important to note here that if these are the true reasons people hate the Jews, then those of us who are Christians can wholeheartedly stand with the Jews and support them and their fight against the hounds of hell.

This is not to say that the Jews have always performed perfectly. However, if in fact, the vitriol we are seeing directed at the Jews in our day is actually directed at God and specifically the limitations that God puts on people, then we can stand with them as they fight for their survival as a people.

In fact, the Apostle Paul speaks of Christians as connected organically with the Jews. As wild “branches” we’ve been grafted into the family tree of Abraham (Rom. 11:17-24) and adopted into the family of God (Galatians 3:26-29; 4:5-6). As the late Edith Schaeffer has said, Christianity is Jewish! The hatred people have for the Jews because of their close association with the God of the Bible, they also have for Christians, for the same reason.

We too as believers in Jesus Christ stand for these things as well and must clearly demonstrate our solidarity with the Jews in this regard.

Dennis Prager, a public intellectual, writer, lecturer and radio host wrote in his paper, “Judaism’s Sexual Revolution“:

Societies that did not place boundaries around sexuality were stymied in their development. The subsequent dominance of the Western world can largely be attributed to the sexual revolution initiated by Judaism and later carried forward by Christianity.

In fact, it is the glory of sexuality within the framework of marriage that began to civilize societies and build Western civilization. Prager continues:

When Judaism [and later Christianity] demanded sexual activity be channeled into marriage, it changed the world. The Torah’s [the books of Moses] prohibition of non-marital sex quite simply made the creation of the Western civilization possible.

Adolf Hitler sought to rid the world of the “crazed, lawmaking God of the desert” by wiping out those who worshiped and served him. First, he sought to eliminate the Jews. When he was finished with the Jews, he planned to wipe out the confessing Christians. If he could kill the Jews and Christians he could rid the world of their law-giving God, thus ridding the world of the concept of the conscience-gripping moral universe.

Take a moment and reflect on this quote from Hitler. What are his main points? What do you think about this?

Ideological Roots of Nazi Antisemitism

Houston Stewart Chamberlain (1855-1927) a British-German political philosopher whose writings were fundamental in shaping Nazi “antisemitism and scientific racism” wrote of the impact a small Semitic people, the Jews, had on shaping the world:

I cannot help shuddering … at the portentous, irremediable mistake the world made in accepting the traditions of this wretched little nation … as the basis of its beliefs (Dennis Prager, Why the Jews? The Reason for Anti-Semitism, 159).

Chamberlain argued that the world made a drastic mistake by accepting the beliefs of this tiny people group.

His words were inspirational for one of the vilest antisemites and murderers of Jews the world has ever known. Adolf Hitler blamed the Jews and the later Christians whose monotheism and view of a moral universe despoiled the world’s “fun,” which of course included pagan sexuality.

Chamberlain wrote, “The Jews God came into our gay world and spoiled everything with his ominous concept of sin, his law, and his cross” (Prager, Why the Jews?, 159).

Hitler and other Nazi leaders echoed Chamberlain’s antisemitism. Hitler recognized that Jesus was a Jew and that his earlier followers were Jews, and that Jesus founded, what Hitler considered, a Jewish sect. Hitler expressed his disdain for Christ and the “Jewish sect” of Christianity when he said:

The heaviest blow that ever struck humanity was the coming of Christianity. Bolshevism is Christianity’s illegitimate child. Both are inventions of the Jews. The deliberate lie in the matter of religion was introduced into the world by Christianity.

Heinrich Himmler was founder of the Nazi SS (Schutzstaffel, German for “protective echelon”) and the architect of the Nazi “Final Solution to the Jewish Question.” Himmler, the builder of the deathcamps, left no ambiguity about his goal to supplant Christianity with a return to Germany’s ancient paganism. He vowed “to deal with Christianity in a tougher way than hitherto. We must settle accounts with this Christianity, this greatest of plagues that could have happened to us in our history, which has weakened us in every conflict.”

In 1937 Himmler declared, “We live in an era of the ultimate conflict with Christianity. It is part of the mission of the SS to give the German people in the next half century the non-Christian ideological foundations on which to lead and shape their lives.”¹

We can see similar thoughts and objectives today. We should take to heart the consequences of an atheistic, evolutionary ideology manifested in the intentional postmodern, cultural Marxist shifts in education and thinking. What is happening in the US and Europe today is nothing less that the exchange of Judeo-Christianity and the virtues it produced for “the non-Christian ideological foundations on which (people are) to lead and shape their lives.”

And where is the Western Church today? I am afraid she is similar to where the Christians were during the rise of Nazism in Germany in the 1930s and ’40s. We must wake up before it is too late!

In the next blog, we will discuss the tacit consent of antisemitism in the church through the sacred/secular lie.  Also, we will end this series with a set of possible actions you as a believer can take to stand in solidarity with the Jewish people.

This post was first published November 4th, 2024.

In the last blog, we discussed the rapid increase of antisemitism in our nation and around the world. I threw out a few stated reasons for this hatred of Jews, while I work toward sharing my real theory for this movement in the rest of the series. We also reviewed the Biblical history of the Jewish people and recounted the promises God made to Abraham and thus eventually to the Jewish nation: to be blessed by Him and to become a blessing to all the nations of the world. The promise of blessing was not for the Jews only but was to be given away! The next phase of this conversation explores whether God fulfilled His promise to make the Jews a blessing to all the world.

The Gifts of the Jews

American historian, scholar, and writer Thomas Cahill explores the contribution Jews have made to nations around the world. He wrote a well-known book called The Gifts of the Jews: How a Tribe of Desert Nomads Changed the Way Everyone Thinks and Feels.

The Gifts of the Jews helped me understand why the Jews have been such a blessing to the nations and at the same time why they have been the most hated people on the planet.

Monotheism – the Great Whole

In a world that idolized small, capricious, polytheistic deities, the Jews heard and responded to the “Voice” of the One True God, the Creator of the universe. Cahill writes:

The Jews gave us a whole new vocabulary, a whole new Temple of the Spirit, an inner landscape of ideas and feelings that had never been known before. Because of their unique belief – monotheism – the Jews were able to give us the Great Whole, a unified universe that makes sense and that, because of its evident superiority as a worldview, completely overwhelms the warring and contradictory phenomena of polytheism. They gave us the Conscience of the West.

When God called Abraham to leave Ur of the Chaldees, he not only called him to leave a geographic place, but he also summoned him to depart from a worldview and corresponding culture; He called Abraham to leave one way of life and establish an entirely different one in its place. He called him to leave idolatry and tribal gods to follow and worship the living Creator God of the universe.

The Creator God of the whole universe brought Abraham into the UNIverse – providing unity out of the great diversity. The Voice provided metaphysical order out of capricious chaos, thus giving us a moral universe. This moral universe gave framework to human freedom. It brought purpose out of what felt like a chaotic and purposeless universe. This revelation of God to Abraham provided us with what has become known as Judeo-Christian theism and consequently Western Civilization.

In contrast to the soulless worldview of Modernism/Atheism and the illusionary world of Postmodernism (maya), the Jews have given us an integrated, comprehensive worldview where heaven and earth, the transcendent and the natural, meet and interact.

Can we really grasp the implications of this? Science and the idea that we can discover new things about the created world is grounded in monotheism. Progress, the idea that we can better our lives and make choices to change our circumstances, is grounded in the concept that God is moving forward to gradually reveal Himself and redeem humanity. We cannot even go one day without thinking Jewish thoughts we didn’t even know we had!

The Word of God – the Bible

The universe is not silent. God not only spoke the universe into existence, but He also spoke through Moses. He gave the world moral law, the 10 Commandments. He gave us the Pentateuch, the five books of Moses that were the foundation of the Old Testament. It was Jews who gave us the scriptures. God gave us the written word, His divine revelation, so that we might know who He is, who and whose we are, why we are here, and His plan for our salvation in time and eternity.

Our Vocabulary

The Jews not only gave us the Word of God, but they also gave us many of our words. The Jews gave us the language for building free, just and compassionate nations. Again, Cahill explains:

The Jews gave us the Outside and the Inside – our outlook and our inner life. We can hardly get up in the morning or cross the street without being Jewish. We dream Jewish dreams and hope Jewish hopes. Most of our best words, in fact – new, adventure, surprise; unique, individual, person, vocation; time, history, future; freedom, progress, spirit; faith, hope, justice – are the gifts of the Jews.

Take a moment and reflect on each of the words above. What does each word mean? What is its significance? What would life be like, for instance, if you or your culture had no word for future or no word for hope?

God blessed the Jews with revelation. He revealed who He was/is to them, and they stewarded those revelations through the scriptures and their own traditions. God used the Jews to be stewards of His revelatory light! That revelatory light has spread throughout the nations. Yes, God has used the Jews to bless the entire world!

In this blog, we delved into the blessing the Jews have been to the nations.  In the next blog, we will discover how that very blessing is also the reason so many curse the Jews.

The Jews Cannot Be Erased By Darrow Miller Published By Credo House

This post was originally published Oct 11th, 2024.

Consider two important headlines (below) from October 7, 2024. The first focuses on antisemitism in the United States and the second zeros in on the global crises:

  1. Antisemitism in US at all-time high as American Jews report ‘explosion of hate’
A total of 10,000 antisemitic incidents were recorded in the US since October 7 – the highest number of incidents in the ADL’s history.
  1. One Year Later: The Oct. 7 Atrocities Triggered Heinous Global Antisemitism

These headlines and the events of the last year raise the question: Why Are the Jews So Hated?

This series of blogs seeks to answer this question. What I am about to say will offend many, but needs to be said. We are facing civilizational war between the Judeo-Christian theism of Western Civilization and Neo-Paganism. In a resent lecture Bari Weiss describes it this way:

When antisemitism moves from the shameful fringe into the public square, it is not about Jews. It is never about Jews. It is about everyone else. It is about the surrounding society or the culture or the country. It is an early warning system—a sign that society itself is breaking down. That it is dying. [1]

I am not Bari Weiss. She is a brilliant thinker and a very gifted writer. Thankfully she has a large megaphone and when she speaks, she creates a stir. The fact is that if Western Civilization is going to be saved from the onslaught of paganism, we need to say in public what those in power try to forbid us to say.  The ugly face of antisemitism is the canary in the coal mine.

Why are the Jews so hated? In short, they are hated because of their ideas and worldview. Ancient paganism was first subverted by Abraham’s family.  Through Abraham’s lineage, God revealed Himself as the one true God and revealed that He had created a moral universe. These days, the world has forgotten the source of such principles as truth, freedom, justice, the dignity of each individual, and hope. Modern paganism is once again raising its ugly head. In order to combat the inevitably destructive consequences of this rise of neo-paganism, those who believe in the one true God along with Abraham’s children need to fight! Will you join the fight?

As we delve into this, please pray that the Lord would open your eyes to see the profound depth of this civilizational conflict. Please also pray that the Lord would empower you to courageously stand in solidarity with the Jewish people in this pivotal point in history.

Thesis: “Fascists hated the Jews not merely because of their race, but because of their ideas and their worldview. They sought to exterminate the Jews; they also sought to exterminate the Jewish influence on the Western culture.” – Gene Edward Veith [2]

Pagan culture allows for pagan sexuality. Most people want to deny God, not for metaphysical reasons, but to avoid morality. The Apostle Paul makes this argument in Romans 1:20-28. In this passage, Paul connects the dots in the downward progression of civilizations. He says that people forget to honor the one true God and thus start to worship other created things, then as a direct result of this idolatry, they begin to engage in sexual licentiousness, which leads to the degeneration of whole societies.

Dennis Prager in his essay “Judaism’s Sexual Revolution” makes a case for the positive compliment to Paul’s explanation of degeneration. Prager says that the Jewish sexual ethic, later promoted by Christians, to channel sex into monogamous marriage, changed the world. This sexual law commanded and inspired by the God of the Bible, fueled the momentum of Western Civilization!

There is a direct connection between the hatred of Jews and the hatred of God. People who hate Jews actually hate the God with which they are associated. This hatred is fueled by none other than Satan himself. Satan is after the demise of Jews and Christians, those who point to the one true God. If Satan can gather his hordes and build demonic strongholds in these people with regard to their worship and their sexual practices, then he has them. Their identity is solidly grounded in his demonic camp.  Furthermore, the existence of Jews and Christians is an abhorrent witness to “the law giving God of the desert” as Hitler disdainfully described whom they hate and want to eliminate. They cannot eliminate God, but they can attempt to rid themselves of the people whose lives are associated with the God revealed in the Bible and His moral universe.

A universe without God is a universe without morals. The definition of freedom then tragically becomes the license to do whatever one feels without any guilt or responsibility. Ultimately this lack of moral restraint bears horrible consequences on the central building blocks of society (marriage and families) and eventually on society as a whole.

Friedrich Nietzsche, in his book The Gay Science (1882), declares that “God is dead!” This statement marked a prophetic turning point for the growing atheism that was raging through Europe. Nietzsche understood that the denial of God, aka the “killing of the idea of God” by European intellectuals would eventually change everything. Without the Judeo-Christian God, the foundation of European Civilization would be destroyed, and yet people would no longer be troubled by a moral universe or a God who gives us limitations.

Nietzsche clarified this in Twilight of the Idols (1889):

When one gives up the Christian faith, one pulls the right to Christian morality out from under one’s feet. This morality is by no means self-evident… Christianity is a system, a whole view of things thought out together. By breaking one main concept out of it, the faith in God, one breaks the whole. [3]

During the same period, Russian novelist Fyodor Dostoevsky prophetically wrote in The Brothers Karamazov (1879), “If there is no God, everything is permitted.” To put it a little differently, if “God is dead” then everything that has its existence in His existence is dead as well. Love is gone. Human beings are no different than animals therefore human dignity is gone. Justice is gone! Compassion is gone! The moral universe is gone! I contend that antisemitism is ultimately directly related to the “great exchange” of the worship of God for the worship of created things. This return to paganism gives license for pagan sexuality. People want nothing to do with the God of the Jews or a moral universe because they do not want to live in such a framework. If not stopped, antisemitism and eventually fascism will become an explicit movement to eliminate people who are associated with the God of the Bible.

“Those who cannot remember the past are condemned to repeat it.” – George Santayana

In our day, antisemitism is on the rise at a rate rivaling Germany in the 1930s. This historic outbreak of antisemitism of course led to the Holocaust and the murder of 6,000,000 Jews. The tip of the spear for Hitler’s assault on the Jews were the Hitler youth known as the Storm Troopers or the Brownshirt youth.

Photo Attribution: Bundesarchiv, Bild 147-0510 / CC-BY-SA 3.0

Today’s storm troopers leading the fight against the Jews in the United States, Europe and beyond are the tens-of-thousands of college students and others who disrupt universities, block roads and bridges, take over buildings, attack Jewish men and women, and Jewish synagogues. Their rallying cry is the Hamas slogan: “From the River to the Sea, Palestine Will Be Free.”

The elite leaders and funders of these disruptions know exactly what they are doing. They are the same people who hate the Judeo-Christian foundations of freedom under God and are working to rewrite history, redefine key language, and tear down the institutions of Western Civilization. They are the influencers and power brokers behind Antifa, BLM and other revolutionary groups.

However, most of the mobs who engage on the street do so without even understanding the full meaning of their cry. These “useful idiots” [4] as Hamas leaders patronizingly call them [5], are calling for the elimination of the Jewish State and for all the land between the Jordan River and the Mediterranean Sea to be free of Jews.

This vision is nothing new. This is the goal of Hamas and other Political Islamists and vicariously those who support them even if they do not understand what they are saying. Their leaders know the fullness of their vision and it is like their Nazi forefathers, to rid the world of Jews completely. As Heinrich Himmler, the architect of the Holocaust and overseer of the death camps said, “I hope to see the very concept of Jewry completely obliterated.” [6]

This hatred for Jews is fueled by Satan himself. Satan recognizes the people of Israel and their existence today as evidence for the Creator God. Satan understands more than most that the Jews bear witness to the activity and revelation of God throughout history. So, Satan would simply like them destroyed.

Satan may not be able to wipe out the evidence of God in Creation (Romans 1), but he could certainly weaken the evidence for God’s work in history if he wiped out the Jewish people. Therefore, Satan has engendered hatred for the Jews throughout history in a futile effort to end their presence as a living witness of the work and revelation of God. This is currently manifested in Hamas, Hezbollah, Iran, and growing antisemitism in the rest of the world.

We remember Hitler’s Holocaust but hatred for Jews goes back as far as their enslavement in Egypt (1880 –1450 B.C.). Following God’s divine intervention, the Jews became a free people and established the nation of Israel from 1020 – 922 B.C.

In 922 the nation was divided between the ten Northern tribes of Israel, and the two Southern tribes of Judea. The tribes of Israel were taken into captivity by Assyria in 722 B.C. and the Babylonians took the two tribes of Judah into captivity in 606 B.C. In 332 B.C., Alexander the Great conquered the holy land and subjugated the Jews and in 63 B.C., Rome conquered Israel. In 70 A.D, the Romans destroyed the 2nd Jewish Temple in Jerusalem and killed 1,000,000 Jews and made 97,000 slaves.

Through the centuries, we see hatred for the Jews collectively manifested In Spain, France, England, Germany, Russia, Syria, Algeria, Palestine, Belorussia and Ukraine. There are extensive records of persecution and pogroms against Jews.

Jewish communities were targeted throughout Europe during the Crusades. Some 510 Jewish communities were destroyed in 1348-49.

Between 1903 and 1906, about 660 pogroms were recorded in Ukraine and Bessarabia; half a dozen more in Belorussia, carried out with the Russian government’s complicity.

Antisemitism is found among Christians, Muslims, and Atheists. One can find it in the children of the Enlightenment, Marxists, Socialists, and of course Fascists.

Today this vitriol pointed at the Jews is led by Political Islamists / Jihadists and their co-conspirator Postmoderns, as expressed through university students and pro-Hamas demonstrations in the United States and Europe.

There is a myriad of reasons given for the hatred and persecution of the Jews. Some justify their hatred by resenting the fact that the Jews claim to be God’s chosen people. Others reason that Jews are to be hated because of their success financially and politically. Jews are often used as scapegoats for society’s ills. Jews tend to have a very tight cultural identity that results in a lack of integration into their nations.  People often label Jews as “not like us,” judgmental, and hostile to those outside their communities. While on the outside, these justifications for antisemitism might carry some weight, it’s my conviction that these are not the deepest reasons for people’s hatred of the Jews.

The Jews, God’s Chosen People

The world knows of the Jews because of God’s great promise to bless all the nations of the earth through Abraham and his children (Genesis 12:2-3 ESV).

And I will make of you a great nation, and I will bless you and make your name great, so that you will be a blessing. I will bless those who bless you, and him who dishonors you I will curse, and in you all the families of the earth shall be blessed.

Note that the blessing given to Abraham was not just for Abraham, nor only for the Jews; it was for all the peoples of the earth. They were not merely to be the recipients of God’s blessing but a channel of that blessing.

This promise marked the beginning of God forming a people through Abraham. Later, He would rescue them from slavery and make them into a free nation that would bless all the nations of the world. They would become His holy people. Why did God choose the Jews? The answer is revealed in Deut. 7:6-8 (ESV):

For you are a people holy to the Lord your God. The Lord your God has chosen you to be a people for his treasured possession, out of all the peoples who are on the face of the earth. It was not because you were more in number than any other people that the Lord set his love on you and chose you, for you were the fewest of all peoples, but it is because the Lord loves you and is keeping the oath that he swore to your fathers, that the Lord has brought you out with a mighty hand and redeemed you from the house of slavery, from the hand of Pharaoh king of Egypt.

Why did God choose the Jews? Not because they were great in number. They were among the fewest of all people. It was not because they were a rich and powerful nation. No, they were an impoverished slave people with a slave mentality who were in Egypt for 430 years. Why did God choose the Jews? He loved them (Deut. 7: 6-9)! He was fulfilling the oath he swore to Abraham to make his seed a great nation. God determined to use the Jews as a model for cultural transformation. Through the Jews, God took a slave nation and turned it into a free nation for the purpose of blessing all nations that He loves.

Make no mistake about it, this narrative and framework of understanding is seared in the minds and hearts of the Jewish people. Whether religious or non-religious, Jews generally understand their place in the world through the biblical lens of the promises God gave to Abraham. Rabbi Moshe Taragin, author and lecturer on the Torah and Jewish history shares his insights on the significance of the Books of Moses, also known as the Pentateuch, on shaping the mind of the Jewish people, especially since the events of October 7, 2023:

Even those who may not follow a classic, halachic lifestyle still view their lives and our national struggle through the lens of biblical narratives. Our ongoing effort to settle the land and control international hostility is viewed as a chapter within a sacred book which is just as compelling now as it was thousands of years ago.

It is important to understand that the choices made by the Israeli people are made because of the story they’ve been told for generations upon generations. This story is God’s true story, and a beautiful story of redemption promised for the whole world through the Jewish people. This is what spurs them on.

This is true no matter who thinks otherwise: God wants to bless all the nations of the earth. He wants to do it by giving the world a real-life example through the family of Abraham. This blessing was never intended to be contained to the Jews. It was meant to be given away!

Every hospital, every university, every legal system that protects the innocent is fruit of a moral universe the Jewish people gave the West. As the west spirals further away from these Judeo-Christian roots, we start to see that secularism or animism will not produce the same kind of fruit.  The simple, yet profound truth that people have intrisic value because they are made in the image of God was first held and stewarded by the Jews.  Then, of course, it became a part of our heritage as Christians.  Yet those truths that esteem life and value the marginalized and the innocent originate from our Jewish brothers and sisters. Those who celebrate the fruits while despising the root are sawing off the branch on which they sit.

“You cannot hate the root and love the fruit.”

That line may be the most important sentence in my newest book The Jews Cannot Be Erased.

In October — beginning Wednesday 7 October, the third anniversary of the massacre — we will repost “Getting to the Root of Antisemitism” series back up on this site, unchanged: the root, the gifts, the horror when the gift is despised, and the role of the church.  We hope this series will refresh you and illuminate your perspective about the Jews.

Between now and then: the book page is live. Tell me when it ships.

We honor a brother who loved Christ and loved this country enough to take both loves into the hard places — campuses, cameras, conversations most of us avoid.

He spoke the gospel, truth, and freedom in the public square when much of the church treated that square as someone else’s business. He answered questions. He stayed. He did not flinch when the cost rose.

We mourn him. We thank God for his life, his courage, and his witness. We refuse to make his death a spectacle or a political toy.

Pray for Erika and the family. Comfort the young people he taught to stand. Remember what he stood for — and do not go quiet.

Then keep walking.

Charlie Kirk occupied.

He did not leave the gospel in a private corner and call that faithfulness. He broke the sacred-secular divide with his feet: campus, culture, politics, the hard conversations — under the Lordship of Christ.

That is what Occupy Till I Come means. It’s not a slogan.  It’s a life given to the discipleship of nations in every sphere until He comes.

The church that stays nice and stays out of the public square is not occupying. Silence in the face of the hour is not caution. It is the divide doing what it always does.

Friends,

For years on this site we have discussed and examined the sacred-secular divide, the call to occupy till He comes, and the gifts the Jewish people gave the world. Today I want to tell you about a new book I’m releasing about the Jews.

A couple of weeks before I began writing, I was talking with a young friend and mentee. He told me that young men in his Bible study — professing Christians in a solid evangelical church — had been expressing support for the Palestinians and for Hamas,  and sounded, in his telling, very much like young antisemites. That conversation produced a restless night for me. In the morning, I knew I needed to do something. This book is that something.

The truth is that Jews cannot be erased. Genesis 12 is why. Empires fall. Egypt. Babylonia. Persia. Greece. Rome. The Third Reich. The Jewish people remain.

Hatred of the Jews is not a racial prejudice, not an economic grievance, not a policy disagreement. It is a worldview war. They are hated not because of who they are biologically, but because of what they introduced to the world: a God who is one, who is personal, who is moral.

This book is not primarily a book about antisemitism. It is a book about the ideas that antisemitism attacks.

You cannot hate the root and love the fruit.

Therefore I’m introducing: The Jews Cannot Be Erased: What Rising Antisemitism Reveals About a Culture and a Church in Peril comes from Credo House Publishers in late October 2026.

If you have walked with me here for years, this is the argument gathered into one place. Occupy Till I Come remains the field manual. This book is the diagnostic. Same mouth. Two titles. People who have one should be able to find the other.

The site is live. Sign up to be the first to know when it is released.

Stephen Langa is a Ugandan layman who works in the arena of his nation’s laws and civic life. He is not a theologian. He has not published books. But in 2000, he encountered a biblical worldview framework that reoriented everything — and what he did with that framework is one of the most instructive stories I know about what it means to be a Christian in the public square.

Before that encounter, Langa had operated, as he later put it, under a ‘religious’ or ‘evangelical’ worldview — one that reduced the influence of Christians to spiritual matters while abandoning the rest of life to others. It is a posture familiar to many serious Western Christians: faith for Sunday, secular frameworks for Monday. The problem, Langa came to see, is that this is not actually a Christian worldview at all. It is a capitulation.

The turning point came when he grasped three things. First: human beings made in the image of God have a God-given purpose that extends into every sphere of life — including civic life. Second: the Great Commission is not merely about saving souls but about teaching nations to obey everything Christ commanded. Everything. Third — and this is the one that lit a fire under him — God audits the laws that nations make.

That third insight came straight from the prophets. ‘Woe to those who decree iniquitous decrees,’ Isaiah writes in chapter ten, ‘and the writers who keep writing oppression.’ Psalm 94 asks: ‘Can wicked rulers be allied with you, those who frame injustice by statute?’ First Timothy 1 reminds us that the law is good when used lawfully — implying that law can also be used unlawfully, unjustly, in ways that put a nation on a collision course with God.

Langa’s conclusion was simple: Christians are representatives of the Kingdom of God on earth. When we pray ‘your kingdom come, your will be done, on earth as it is in heaven,’ we are not reciting poetry. We are praying a mandate — and we are implicitly volunteering to be instruments of its fulfillment. That includes the laws our nations make.

So Langa got to work. Over the following years, he engaged Uganda’s legislative and civic processes — not to take power, not to establish a theocracy, but to bring the conscience of the Kingdom to bear on the laws his nation was writing. He worked to advance laws compatible with Kingdom principles. He worked to oppose laws that were not. He writes with characteristic humility: ‘We are not perfect and there is still a lot we need to learn.’ But he adds: ‘I can confidently say that the discipling of our nation by the Body of Christ as salt and light is within reach.’

This is not a story about Uganda. It is a story about what happens when a Christian actually believes what he claims to believe — and then follows it to its conclusions.  The same conclusion can be made and should be made by thoughtful Christians in every nation on earth.

Stephen Langa, came to these truths through his own encounter with the full scope of biblical reality. He did not wait for a cultural permission slip. He occupied his sphere.

The question his example puts to Western Christians is not complicated. It is the same question the Great Commission has always posed: are we teaching the nations — including our own — to obey all that Christ commanded? Or only the parts that belong to Sunday?

Because here is what history tells us: when Christians withdraw from the legislative and civic spheres, other worldviews fill them. The laws that get written in the absence of a Kingdom conscience do not become neutral. They reflect somebody’s vision of justice and human dignity. They are never nobody’s.

Langa understood this. He is still acting on it. The church in the West, which built the very institutions now eroding around us, would do well to remember what he learned.

This is post 2 of 2 in the series “The Lion of Judah”

This short series gives the reader a theological base for understanding our relationship as Christians to the Jewish people and why that matters.

  1. The Lion of Judah: Symbol, Prophecy, and the Demands of Faith
  2. What the Lion of Judah Says to us Today

In the previous article, we looked at the theological throughline of the Lion of Judah in the scriptures.  Now we will examine why this matters to us.

The Problem of the Sacred-Secular Divide

None of this understanding about the Lion of Judah would matter much as theology if it did not also have consequences for how Christians live. And here the symbol of the Lion begins to cost us something.

Throughout Christian history, a persistent temptation has been to quarantine faith from public life—to allow Sunday piety to coexist comfortably with Monday accommodation. This dualism has taken many forms, but its most catastrophic expression came in Germany in the 1930s and 1940s. When the Nazi regime systematically dismantled law, persecuted Jews, and prosecuted an ideological war against the Judeo-Christian foundations of civilization, the majority of German Christians found reasons not to resist. Their faith was spiritual. The state was secular. The two realms, they convinced themselves, could be kept separate.

Are we not  swimming in the same waters?  Are not Jews becoming the scapegoats for our cultural unraveling?  Where is the church?  Do we wear the cross around our necks and yet forget that our very Messiah is a Jew?

What if instead, we as the church begin to proclaim the Lordship of Christ over every area of life in the public square?  Could we, with our Messiah, take on the mantle of the Lion of the tribe of Judah and arise against the gates of hell?  What if instead we work to use our voice and our actions to resist the wickedness that vies for cultural territory at every turn?

We must!  Or we will perish.

Dietrich Bonhoeffer understood that this was not a sustainable distinction. The Lion of Judah is Lord not merely of the interior life but of all things. The claim of Christ’s lordship is, by its nature, a public claim—one that collides with every competing pretension to ultimate authority. Bonhoeffer paid for this understanding with his life. The majority of his fellow Christians paid for their accommodation with their souls.

Western Christians face analogous temptations today, though the specific forms differ. The resurgence of antisemitism—including within institutions that were once reliably hostile to it—is one marker of a broader cultural shift away from the Judeo-Christian moral inheritance. The devaluation of human life, the erosion of institutions that once embodied the principle that human beings bear the image of God, the spread of ideologies that deny the possibility of moral truth: these are not merely political phenomena. They are theological ones. They represent a recrudescence of the pagan sensibility that the Hebrew prophets spent centuries opposing.

To wear the Lion of Judah is to acknowledge that the king whose kingdom has no end demands something of His subjects in the present—not comfort, not withdrawal, but engagement. It is to accept that the gates of hell are not merely a metaphor for personal temptation but a description of the forces arrayed against human dignity and divine order in every age. And it is to trust that those gates will not prevail.

 The Story and Its Demands

The Star of David bearing the Lion of Judah around my neck is not a piece of religious décor. It is a compressed argument: that God chose a particular people to reveal Himself to the world; that their history is the seedbed of the world’s redemption; that the Messiah who came from that people is both the fulfillment of ancient prophecy and the Lord of all creation; and that His lordship makes demands on those who confess it.

The bookends of Scripture—Jacob’s blessing in Genesis and the elder’s announcement in Revelation—frame a story that is simultaneously particular and universal. It begins with a dying patriarch speaking over his sons in the land of Egypt and ends with a vision of the throne room of heaven, where the Lamb who is the Lion receives the worship of every tribe and nation and tongue. The particularity (a Jewish patriarch, a Jewish tribe, a Jewish Messiah) is the vehicle of the universality. God chose to bless all the families of the earth through Abraham’s seed (Genesis 12:3), and that seed was the Lion of Judah.

What this means practically is that Christians cannot be indifferent to the fate of the Jewish people without being unfaithful to their own story. Nor can they confine Christ’s reign to the private sphere without denying the logic of the Incarnation. The Lion has already won. He calls His people not to spectate but to participate—in advancing His kingdom, in opposing the forces that diminish human dignity, in standing with those whom history has most targeted for annihilation.

The story ends in victory. That ending is not a reason for passivity but for courage—the particular kind of courage that is possible only for those who already know how the story ends.

This is post 1 of 2 in the series “The Lion of Judah”

This short series gives the reader a theological base for understanding our relationship as Christians to the Jewish people and why that matters.

  1. The Lion of Judah: Symbol, Prophecy, and the Demands of Faith
  2. What the Lion of Judah Says to us Today

I wear a Star of David with the Lion of Judah at its center. For some, this combination invites confusion—is the wearer Jewish, Christian, or something else? The question is worth answering, because the symbol itself encodes a theological argument that runs from Genesis to Revelation, and that argument has urgent implications for how Christians understand their place in the world today.

The Star of David I wear is a confession of debt. Christianity is not merely influenced by Judaism—it is Jewish at its root. The Old Testament, comprising more than half of the Christian Bible, is written in Hebrew. The Messiah is a Jew. The young woman chosen to bear God incarnate was a Jew from Nazareth, in the provincial backwater of Roman Palestine. The monotheism and moral law that shaped Western civilization and informed the founding principles of nations like the United States trace their lineage directly to the covenant God made with Abraham and his descendants. To wear the Star of David is to refuse amnesia about this inheritance.

There is also a more immediate reason. The Jewish people have been hated, often precisely because they bore witness to a God who is moral and who demands righteousness—a witness that the world has always found inconvenient. The Holocaust was not an aberration of Western history but its nadir, the logical terminus of a long tradition of scapegoating that Western Christianity too often enabled or ignored. That antisemitism is resurgent today—on university campuses, in political movements both left and right, in the ambient cultural atmosphere—makes solidarity not a pious gesture but a moral obligation.

But the Lion of Judah at the center of the star is the heart of the matter. It is there because the symbol tells a story—a story the Bible takes from its first book to its last.

I. The Prophecy: Genesis 49

The patriarch Jacob is dying. He calls his twelve sons around him and speaks over each one words that carry the weight of prophecy—oracles that will shape the destinies of the tribes descending from them. When he comes to Judah, his fourth son, the words take on unusual gravity:

Judah is a lion’s cub; from the prey, my son, you have gone up. He stooped down; he crouched as a lion and as a lioness; who dares rouse him? The scepter shall not depart from Judah, nor the ruler’s staff from between his feet, until tribute comes to him; and to him shall be the obedience of the peoples. (Genesis 49:9–10, ESV)

This is a remarkable transfer of authority. Reuben held the birthright as the firstborn, but Jacob passes the mantle of leadership to Judah. The tribe of Judah will be the royal tribe—the one from which Israel’s kings will come. The lion imagery is deliberate: in the ancient Near East, the lion symbolized sovereignty, power, and the capacity to inspire fear in one’s enemies. A lion at rest is not weak; it is a lion that has nothing to fear.

The verse’s most provocative phrase is the word rendered “Shiloh” in older translations (Genesis 49:10, KJV) and “tribute” or “the one to whom it belongs” in more recent ones. The Hebrew is difficult, and the translation has been disputed for centuries. But early Jewish interpreters consistently understood it as a reference to the Messiah—the coming king who would fulfill everything Jacob’s blessing promised. The Targum Onkelos, an ancient Aramaic translation of the Torah, renders the phrase as “until the Messiah comes.”

This prophecy was fulfilled in a preliminary sense through David and Solomon, both from Judah’s line, who established Israel’s golden age. But the promise pointed beyond them. David’s kingdom ended; Solomon’s temple fell. The prophecy required a greater king.

II. The Fulfillment: Revelation 5

The book of Revelation is not easy reading, but its fifth chapter contains one of the most dramatically compressed theological moments in all of Scripture. The apostle John, caught up in a heavenly vision, sees a sealed scroll—representing God’s plan for governing creation and bringing history to its appointed end. An angel cries out: who is worthy to open the scroll? The silence is total. No one in heaven or on earth or under the earth can open it. John weeps.

Then one of the elders speaks:

“Weep no more; behold, the Lion of the tribe of Judah, the Root of David, has conquered, so that he can open the scroll and its seven seals.” (Revelation 5:5, ESV)

The elder’s words consciously echo Jacob’s deathbed prophecy. The Lion of the tribe of Judah is the Shiloh of Genesis—the one to whom the scepter belongs, who has now arrived and conquered. But when John turns to look, he sees not a lion but a lamb, standing as though slain (Revelation 5:6). This is the central paradox of Christian theology: the Lion conquers by becoming the Lamb; the king exercises his sovereignty by laying down his life.

The title “Root of David” is equally significant. It is both more and less than it appears. As root, Christ is prior to David—the divine source from which David’s line draws its life. As the one who grows from that root, He is David’s descendant in the flesh. The title thus compresses into a few words the doctrine of the Incarnation: one person who is at once before all things and born of a Jewish woman in a particular moment of history. He is the God-Man, the only mediator capable of standing between a holy God and a fractured humanity.

His worthiness to open the scroll—to govern creation and bring history to its end—derives from this conquest: His victory over sin, death, and the powers of darkness through crucifixion, resurrection, and ascension. The scroll is opened not by force but by sacrifice. The kingdom is inaugurated not by conquest in the conventional sense but by substitutionary suffering.

The Lion of Judah is an amazing through line throughout the entire Bible.  This is our God whom we worship.  He is the Lion of Judah.

In the next post, we will explore what this means for us in our current cultural moment.

We close our journey through Occupy Till I Come where every faithful reader should end: with hope, strategy, and a compelling historical example of what a small band of committed believers can accomplish when they faithfully occupy together.

In eighteenth-century England, slavery was not only profitable—it was widely accepted as morally legitimate. Yet a small community of Christians, later known as the Clapham Sect, believed something different. Convinced by Scripture that every human being is created in the image of God, they recognized slavery for the evil that it was and committed themselves to its abolition.

Among them was William Wilberforce, a member of the British Parliament. After his conversion, Wilberforce considered leaving politics for the ministry. His mentor, John Newton—the former slave trader turned pastor and author of Amazing Grace—encouraged him instead to remain where God had placed him and serve Christ through public life.

For decades, the Clapham Sect labored patiently to reform both British culture and British law. They gathered around dinner tables. They prayed together. They studied Scripture. They employed every sphere of influence God had entrusted to them—Parliament, education, publishing, finance, philanthropy, and the arts. They understood a truth we have largely forgotten: policy flows downstream from culture. By discipling their nation according to biblical truth, they transformed public imagination before they transformed legislation. They did not retreat from the culture. They occupied it. And, in time, they saw the slave trade abolished.

For America’s 250th Anniversary

The Clapham Sect provides a timely model for our own generation.

As America marks 250 years of independence, our greatest need is not another celebrity leader or another national institution. We need faithful households, healthy churches, and small communities of believers who understand the times, recover a biblical worldview, and intentionally cultivate their spheres of influence with wisdom, courage, and perseverance.

The same biblical principles that transformed Britain can once again shape cities, states, and eventually a nation—but only if we are willing to pray, think strategically, and act faithfully.

The Unifying Thread

From its opening pages to its conclusion, Occupy Till I Come returns to one central conviction:

The Church does not fulfill her calling by retreating from the world. She occupies by bringing every sphere of life under the Lordship of Jesus Christ—our homes, our churches, our work, our communities, and our nations—until He comes.

This book is for the household builder who longs for the family table to become a place where the Kingdom is cultivated. It is for the pastor weary of a sacred-secular divide that has diminished the Church’s witness. It is for the young adult asking, “What has God entrusted to me, and how do I faithfully steward it?”

Your Next Step

Gather two or three fellow believers and ask:

“What is our Clapham? What sphere has God entrusted to us, and what will we commit to cultivating together over the next twelve months?”

Do not be afraid to follow Christ into difficult places.

The victory has already been won.

Christ is Lord.

Now we occupy.

Thank you for joining us through these sixteen posts. May the Lord raise up a generation of cultural reformers who will disciple this nation at the level of culture for the glory of God and the good of their neighbors.

Closing Prayer

Father, thank You for the witness of the Clapham Sect and for every small band of faithful believers who have changed nations through long obedience and quiet courage. As we stand at the threshold of America’s 250th year, raise up modern Claphams in our homes, churches, and communities. Give us the grace to occupy our spheres with wisdom, unity, humility, and love until Christ returns. May the next 250 years be marked by revival, reformation, and the advance of Your Kingdom in every sphere of American life. We ask this in the name of our reigning King, Jesus Christ. Amen.

For the King and His Kingdom,
