The reason they break is because the folding top leans on the window when its going up or down. You can prevent future breakage by simply putting these windows in down position before raising or lowing your top. Regards.

I think it was a four door. I very much enjoyed reading your blog about the restoration, and as a history major I appreciate your attempts to prove whether or not your car is THE 1959 Pace car. I bet it is, since so few were made. You make a strong and well researched circumstantial case! As an English minor, I appreciate your folksy yet 100% grammatically correct writing style. You should try to publish in paying venues. The story of the 59 is an “evergreen” as well. Best of luck to you and thanks for the good read.

It had thrown a rod through the crankcase and oil pan and I just left it in the desert. Who knew? Other than the lower end, the car was otherwise in almost pristine original condition. Everything worked. In retrospect what a wonderful machine. Your car is simply beautiful and your presentation is the best I’ve ever seen.

Well, what a great writer you are. I was spellbound and enjoyed the anecdotes how various foibles were/are constantly pushed in your way. Yet you press on.
I stumbled onto your internet-site because I was looking for a ’59 Buick convertible photo angle that is similar to the partial photo I have of my father with his white ’59 Buick convertible.

Tom Sidoti, your endurance will pay off someday.

I also experienced an unbelievable “find again” story of a ONE OF A KIND 50’s car.

Comment on Spectacular Photos from Meadow Brook by Richard Cooper http://1fine59.com/?p=508&cpage=1#comment-704 Mon, 17 Feb 2014 21:21:45 +0000 http://1fine59.com/?p=508#comment-704 I just spent the better part of a morning reading the entire site. Thanks for sharing the amazing process and along with all the details.

This is my very favorite cars from the era. I grew up in a Mopar family that included a 56 300B and a 60 Crown Imperial as family cars. But my mom’s best friend drove a 59 Buick and I always loved that car. There is a red/red version that shows here in Northern CA regularly – but it is no where near the work of art that your car is!

Thank you for preserving this beauty for the ages.

Respectfully,

Richard Cooper,
Ukiah, CA

And a fascinating story, what a journey…and what a craftsman you found in Greg. One of my favorite cars as a young kid then, I was just amazed at all the chrome. My aunt had a charcoal Electra sedan that drowned in Wildwood NJ during the Ash Wednesday storm of ’62.

Comment on Ownership History – 1959 Buick Indy Pace Car? by Joe Chadwick http://1fine59.com/?p=66&cpage=1#comment-486 Tue, 04 Dec 2012 03:58:44 +0000 http://gator959.hostgator.com/~tjsidoti/onefine59.com/?p=66#comment-486 In 1959 I worked in a Standard Oil Station at
10th & Lynhurst in Speedway IN. “The” Buick
Pace Car was brought in for service. I was told
that it was “The Pace Car”. It was said that one
of the other cars had something different or
extra on it, so Rodger swapped The Pace Car
for the other one. The sole reason I believe
this story is true, is that this car had a card-
board overlay on the speedometer with the
“exact speeds’ on it. We all know that most
speedometers then were inaccurate and they
needed to know exactly how fast they were
going. I know this for sure true. I test drove
it West on 10th St. and it went like a bat out
of Hell! 10th St. was open country back then.
I knew most of the drivers then, just to say
Hello to, including Rodger. A lot of them
hung out at the old “White Front Tavern on
16th St. I have no proof of any kind of the
the “swap”, but my source was very reliable
and I believe him. I am pretty sure that I
really did test drive the “Real” 1959 Indy
500 Pace Car! Joe C.

We had started years ago and had to put it on hold to move to a new location. We had taken the seats in to get redone and in the process the shop we had doing the seats burnt down. We have a nice 2 door we could get the front seat out of but the back seat is different. We are hoping some one knows where one is and could help us out.
Thanks Jeff
