Wow I relate to so much. Good on you to learn to love yourself at nearly 50. I’m seventy and still on that journey .
Makes me realise at as in How damaging fundamentalist Christianity Was in my life.
You think you have relationships but all you have is a group of people who you have to please. These churches and families do.not provide the experiences s ypung person needs to develop a sense a if self. It is all about conforming rather than becoming.
Please don’t feel responsible for trigerring poeoples stuff. It is a gift!
You refer somewhere to a non co format way of seeing forgiveness. I am strongly opposed to using forgiveness as a form. of healing.
In.my book The self lost and found
I say
“Forgiveness without dependence reinforces power imbalance and frees the perpetrator of responsibility to own what they have done, a knowledge how it has affected the person, repany and change…..Forgiveness based healing practices bypass the process of exploring the emotions that surface in telling the story and how These emotions testify to how the event impacted on the person….to forgive before dependence risks further abuse”

So interesting. How do we stand in our strength without wielding power?
I certainly agree with Anita here.
Maybe some of us get triggered when other people are powerful. In fact we go. onto a freeze state.
