A ‘starter kit’ designed to take the Internet of Things to a new level has been announced by two leading firms – cloud services giant IBM and chip designer ARM. According to them, it will take only few minutes to unbox the kit and send readings to online apps. This could be a huge step towards smart cities, smart homes and other prototypes using the technology. The ARM embedded kit will let users create cloud-ready products that could receive as well as transmit data for alerts.

In further revelation of information, the kit is expected to arrive with ARM’s mbed OS that will connect into BlueMic Cloud of IBM. With these main specs, the kit will assist developers or users in the development of apps and services based on Internet of Things. Lenovo will be using 64-bit ARM processors in a NextScale system, which was originally developed by IBM. The hyperscale system was developed with an idea to provide more flexibility and scalability and at the same time lower operating costs for data-intensive workloads. As mentioned on their website, NextScale delivers the agility, density and scale for today’s most demanding workloads.

NextScale system was designed to compete with HP’s Moonshot and later transferred to Lenovo. Now, the hardware giant is building the server together with the U.K.-based Science and Technology Facilities Council. The aim looks to boost up system performance and making it as power-efficient as possible.

Use of ARM Technology

ARM technology is used to develop more power-efficient, connected electronics and the approach requires significantly less transistors than other processors. Low-power ARM chips are used in devices like smartphones and tablets and mainly used to bring energy-efficiency. Today, data center servers are undergoing heavy processing burdens due to the increasing cloud services and applications.

FPGA is a blank chip that can be again and again reprogrammed after manufacturing and its stands for Field-programmable Gate Arrays. In simple words you can take an FPGA to program it to perform one set of function, and then reprogram it to handle different or another type of workload. With some exemptions, every chip inside a computer is hard-coded to perform just one set of functions. Your CPU can only perform exactly what AMD or Intel designed it to do.

As far as the benefits of FPGA are concerned, the main advantage is that its customizable and has monstrously high performance. Yahoo Inc hit a deal with Mozilla Corp, the maker of Firefox, to replace Google as the default search engine on the Firefox Web Browser in the US. According to Yahoo, the move aims to boost its flagging search market share. Starting in December, Firefox will use Yahoo as its default search engine in the US on desktop and mobile. The partnership is set to last five years and based on a revenue sharing agreement and includes some ‘guarantees’.

The new search experience is going to feature “a modern, clean and immersive design that reflects the hard work from the Mozilla team. No financial terms has been disclosed and it is not clear how the deal will affect the existing arrangement of Yahoo with Microsoft Corp. Microsoft’s Bing search engine currently powered Yahoo’s web search capabilities. The partnership will generate a ‘share gain’ for Yahoo, as disclosed by chief executive Marissa Mayer.

Mayer said, “It is one of largest independently-directed search share opportunities available in the market.” It means that users of the Firefox browser in the United States will automatically be routed to search results on Yahoo’s website at the time they type a query. The Mozilla Foundation has long made most of its revenue through its search partnership with Google. That contract is going with Google is going to expire this year. Looks like Yahoo made an interesting offer that Mozilla couldn’t trash or perhaps Google decided to walk away from the deal.

Yahoo said it has refurbished the look of its search engine, making more use of photos and graphics, for the new partnership. The Web search results will go on to be powered by Microsoft. This partnership will definitely give Yahoo and Microsoft a stronger online presence. While Firefox usage has declined over the last few years, the platform still accounts for at least 15% of the United States browser market.

We’ll have to wait to watch whether this partnership will be a boon for Firefox users or not.

As of late last week, Microsoft put an end over selling retail copies of some versions of Windows 7 and 8. The move is to help and encourage people on to more recent versions of the operating system. Once the supply runs out, people won’t be able to get a new computer with that old software installed.

If you are into business, you need not to worry as Windows 7 professional was spared at least till next year. The changes are primarily going to affect PC manufacturers as the tech giant already stopped selling Windows 7 software package to the general public in 2013, but now even Original Equipment Manufacturers (OEMs) cannot license it.

There will be retail box sales of Windows 8.1 while consumers and businesses will still be able to buy Windows 7 Professional licenses. However, it will be available at an extra cost and have limited availability. It is unclear how many PCs with old version are still in stock but it might take some time to see its brush off.

The Windows 8 version was largely a failure for the tech giant as it was given a very cold response by businesses and regular customers. The absence of the Start Menu was one of the big complaints by users. Mainstream support for Windows 7 will end in January 2015 and the retail sales of Windows 8 on Friday.

The next big upgrade will be Windows 10 for its Windows Operating System and it is expected to launch in late 2015. A preview version of the software was available to download and was checked by 1 million users in the first two weeks.

The recent shift will take some time as many PC makers have large stocks of older versions and will continue to sell PCs running the software. However, market analysis reveals a sharp decline in the number of people using the Windows XP operating system.

The tech giant believes that it can bridge the gap for people to migrate to mobile devices running Microsoft software.

With Windows 10 operating system we’re adding support for power users in a touchpad, where multiple finger gestures, which all of your power users learn, can make you really efficient.”

A number of useful gestures have been added like a three-finger swipe downward brings you to your desktop. A three-finger horizontal swipe and three-finger swipe up displays multi desktop ‘task view’ lets you quickly switch between different applications. Both Microsoft and Apple have borrowed desktop features from each other as the companies don’t hesitate making great ideas its own.

Microsoft is also working on window snapping on multiple monitors, something users have been calling for. The feature drifts apps in the center of the monitor split, and then steadily drags them in the direction of the transparent snap window that appears. The tech giant is planning to bring more advanced and useful features to an upcoming Windows 10 Technical Preview build.

The pages and links created by content management system should be easy to crawl. It is important to test your website to make sure that it appears accurately in different browsers.

Monitor the performance of your site and optimize load times. Fast websites are more liked and visited by users and improve the quality of the web. The tech giant strongly recommends you to monitor site performance using different tools on a regular basis.

The quality guidelines are all about deceptive and manipulative behavior. It specifies that make your site keeping users in mind, not the search engines. Do not trick search engine to improve the ranking if your site.

The rule of thumb is make your website valuable, unique and more engaging. If your site stands out from others in the same field, half the work is done.

Google has confirmed that they have updated the Penguin algorithm over the weekend as starting late Friday night, the SEO people began noticing major changes in the search results. There were speculations that this was a Penguin refresh and now it’s verified. Google changes its algorithm nearly 500 times a year but most changes are minor. The major update stuns people because of the huge impact it has on ranking results.

Penguin was released in April 2012 and put tighter guidelines as on website optimization and a number of spam factors. It includes everything like keyword stuffing, unnatural links, cloaking, and content spinning. Google’s goal is to penalize every website so that only 10 decent sites left at the top results. In simple words, Penguin targets web spam and if you were playing by the rules, you should not have been affected.

This was one of the most expected algorithm updates in Google’s history as web-masters have been waiting for it for over a year. It has been a complete year the giant released a penguin update. These updates tend to come in October as 2013 update being launched on October 4th and 2012 update on October 5th. There are mixed reports coming after this update but not much impact has been noticed so far.

Well! It’s too early to discuss about the impact of Google’s Penguin update as it will take some time to analyze what’s the actual impact. Websites relying more on spammed back-links and keyword rich anchor text have been targeted in the current update.

To fight any problem keep your keywords in check, expand your link building, upload high quality content to your site and listen to webmaster tools. Avoid things like cloaking and content spinning. Keep in mind that Penguin is a way of rewarding good sites and cleaning up web spam.

It’s unclear whether it’s a revised algorithm update or a refresh to the Penguin algorithm. More details is still to come and Google is yet to officially speak about the latest update.

The next version of Microsoft operating system will be ‘Windows 10’, as the giant skips version 9 to accentuate advances it is making around mobile devices and Internet services. The announcement highlighted advancements designed for business and an updated user experience. The latest version comes with enhanced security and management capabilities. The giant also introduced the Windows Insider Program, delivered to best meet the needs of customers.

Terry Myerson, executive vice president of the OS group at Microsoft said, “Windows 10 represents the first step of a whole new generation of Windows, unlocking new experiences to give customers new ways to work, play and connect.” He added, “This will be our most comprehensive operating system and the best release the company has ever done for our business customers. We look forward to working together with our broader community.” The Windows 10 technical Preview will be released today, October 1.

The start menu returns and the left side will look a lot like the standard Windows 7 start menu, but there’ll be options at the right side. The left side of the menu comes with a new Metro-like look. You’ll have the option of using virtual desktops. With virtual desktops, you can switch between as many desktops as you want.

Windows 10 will let you run Metro apps on the desktop in a window. In simple words, mouse-and-keyboard users might now use Metro apps. It also seems like the new desktop will receive a graphical overhaul, but not clear yet. The leaked preview shows some thinner window borders and flatter icons.

Windows 10 has a new task view button that pops up the Task View interface. The snap function is also being updated so that windows can be easily tiled vertically and horizontally. There are lots of other tweaks to the new version.

Google announced a version of Adobe Photoshop that will stream to your Chromebook. It is an effort to take-down the domination of Microsoft and Apple in the laptop market. Looks like the rest of the Creative Cloud suite will also come to Chromebook, if it’s Photoshop today. Maybe Visual Studio and triple-A PC games will be next.

This Photoshop version will, supposedly, require a steady Internet connection to use. According to Google, it’s fully integrated with Google Drive, which means you won’t need to steadily download and re-upload your project. Adobe is now running an assortment of servers that are running Photoshop.

Just open up your Chromebook, install the Project Photoshop Streaming app, and then connect to one of those virtualized Photoshop cases. The Photoshop instance that you connect to will have direct access to your Google Drive. It is where images will be saved to and loaded from. In simple words, you’re editing directly in the cloud.

This is the same thing as running Photoshop on your Windows PC, and then using any screen-sharing app on your Chromebook to dial into your desktop. For the time being, Project Photoshop Streaming is being beta tested among Adobe’s customers in North America only. There’s a very little about image quality and it’s going to require a pretty high bandwidth link.

The streaming service is free for Creative Cloud subscribers, during the beat test. It probably works on both Chrome OS, and also Chrome for Windows. This is a wonderful news especially when Chrome OS has a very small library of key business, enterprise and education apps. If it works well on Chromebooks, and the program is extended to other key programs, then this would be a huge win for Google.

This may prove beneficial for the market share of Chromebooks….

Speaking in an earnings call, he told analysts the company will unify the next version of Windows from three operating systems into one operating system. Nadella said “this means one operating system that covers all screen sizes, ranging from tablets and smartphones, to desktops and laptops.” It was also revealed that the giant has internally restructured itself since the retirement of Steve Ballmer. The new CEO said the company now has “one team with a common architecture”.

The company, under the direction of Steve Ballmer, had multiple teams creating different versions of Windows working independently from each other. Now the giant noted the benefit of one team for developers and users. The new consolidated platform will allow the development of universal Windows apps that work across all devices running the OS.

Looks like the company has been pushing toward more unification of its platforms. In April, Microsoft displayed developer tools that would empower the development of universal apps. The ability to make apps that work on PCs, Xbox Consoles, Laptops, Tablets and Windows Phones should be welcomes by developers.

Some rumors have indicated that the latest, unified version will be Windows 9 and may launch in early 2015. It is announced that there will be more information surrounding future versions of Windows in the coming months.

Earlier this year, Google announced ‘Glass for Work’ program for developers with an aim to encourage the development of business apps. The initiative was meant to bring Google Glass and business together and now a number of companies have teamed up with the giant to serve the customers in a better way.

The giant announced the first five partners for the program and the companies are APX Labs, Augmedix, CrowdOptic, GuidiGo, and Wearable Intelligence. These firms have varied focuses and covers the areas of health-care, live broadcasts, and manufacturing. It’ll be going to be a smart course for Google because these companies cover some of the less exciting ideas around Glass.

The mentioned companies are certified to develop Glass apps for professional and business use. These firms belong to different business and professional industries and Google has officially launched the program. Its all about one thing that how explorers from these industries will use Glass to drive their businesses forward.

APX Labs is working on a business app called ‘Skylight’ for Glass which gives workers hands-free, real-time access to company data. AugMedix offers a service that gives doctors access to patient’s medical records and the ability to update them in real-time with Glass.

CrowdOptic builds context-aware apps for the medical, entertainment and sports industries. It uses wearable and mobile to detect significant broadcast events. GuidiGo is working on apps for cultural institutions and museums using Glass.

Wearable Intelligence develops communications, training, workflow, and data access Glassware solutions for the manufacturing, health-care and energy industries. These companies are eligible for listing and co-branding on the Glass at Work Website.

There are both positives and negatives of Google Glass as for some it’s an outstanding technology while for others it’s just a wastage of money. The stories of Google Glass helping out in medical schools and surgeries have brought a lot of positive notes to the device.

Google doesn’t say anything about to what extent it’ll be working with these companies, but it clarifies that the Glass will come with some better uses.

Microsoft has extended the deadline for installing its Windows 8.1 Update till June 10, giving its customers a 30-day reprieve. Microsoft’s Brandon LeBlanc wrote in a blog post, “While we believe the majority of users have received the update, we found that not all have.” He added, “Having our customers update their devices with latest updates is super important to us. And we’re also committed to ensure them safety.”

According to the sources, instead of requiring Windows 8.1 to be installed till May 13, Microsoft is now allowing its users a relaxation till June 10. However, deadline for those involved in businesses – it’s August 12. It simply means that business owners can switch to Windows 8.1 Update until August 12. It looks like the company wants to give its customers enough time to understand and apply the Update.

The initial cutoff date was fixed for May, which would have meant that some devices would have gone dead by this week. But, not to worry, Microsoft isn’t forcing people to update their devices as soon as possible, instead the company is offering enough time to its customers. The giant extended the deadline for people using Windows Server Update Services (WSUS), System Center Configuration or Windows Intune to update their machines.

This means that you have an extra 30 days to get it done, but Microsoft wants you to do it as soon as possible. If you have Automatic Updates, you do not have to do anything and you will receive the Update automatically to your machine via Windows Update.

According to Microsoft, the majority of the remaining users who haven’t updated their machines will be able to to do.

Windows phone has had a troubled history since its debut in 2010, each phone has suffered some major functional gaps. Microsoft Windows OS failed to get a good hold as Windows-powered phones held only 3% of the world’s Smartphone market.

But the giant seems to be very serious about its portfolio and has recently taken steps to boost the adoption of its devices. The company has made Windows free for companies involved in manufacturing phone and tablets. The giant is also offering a one year free subscription to cloud-based 365 service on the latest devices.

The company is coming up with many offers at a time when it has also stitched up partnerships with a string of phone makers. These phone manufacturers also include Indian companies and the idea is to make affordable devices offering the Windows OS.

The company has just announced its Windows Phone 8.1 and also revealed its alliances with Indian phone makers like Karbonn, Lava, Xolo and Micromax. It looks like the Microsoft wants to reap out the potential of Indian Smartphone market.

Microsoft Corp is rushing to fix a security flaw in its Internet Explorer after it is been disclosed by a computer security firm. The company clarified on Saturday its plans to fix the flaw targeting the browser’s versions 9 through 11. It warned users that a vulnerability in all versions could let hackers gain complete access over your computer, allowing them to run programs or delete your important data.

That’s not a good news, but at least Microsoft is rushing to fix on a modern version of Windows while Windows XP will not receive any patch. The company has stopped supporting its old operating system and according to the firm’s estimate 15 to 25 percent PCs in the world still run Windows XP. This is first discovered security flaw since the company ended its support, and it simply indicates that Windows XP is no more secure.

The security firm FireEye Inc, a division that helps companies deal with cyber attacks, said that a sophisticated group of hackers have been manipulating the bug in a campaign called – ‘Operation Clandestine Fox’. The division described the group as ‘extremely proficient at lateral movement’ which is ‘difficult to track’. The campaign is said to be targeted against U.S. based firms but the motives are still unclear.

Microsoft said that the bug could allow that group to take complete control of your system, and do things like installing malicious programs, creating accounts and deleting data without your knowledge. The company asked users to move on to modern operating system as Windows XP will no more receive any updates. The old version is exposed to security risks and you may lose your important data to hackers.

The Internet Explorer users can do certain things to avoid this exploit and the easiest among all methods is to use a different browser, like Firefox or Chrome. Those who still want to stick with Internet Explorer, the company has published some advanced methods such as Enhanced Protected Mode.

From today, Microsoft is launching a preview version of its popular Remote Desktop app to let users of Windows Phone control their desktop PCs on the go. The company has made the app available from the Windows Phone Store for free, but the only thing you will need is to be running your Windows Phone 8.1 to install it.

Remote apps are pretty useful for Smartphone users especially those who want to access their PCs on the go. Microsoft has introduced the Remote Desktop Preview Software for free in the Windows Phone Store but the giant has done it quietly. It first bought the app to competing platforms – Androi and iOS, last year.

The Remote Desktop app for Windows Phone 8.1 is identical to the Android and iOS versions which allows users to connect and control their Windows PC. The app uses the same Remote Desktop Protocol (RDP) that the company has used for years for its Windows desktop as well as server releases to connect to a PC.

Microsoft’s app will support all Windows PCs having Remote Desktop turned on and it is designed for those who need on the go access to their main PC. There will be built-in options to scroll around a system at its indigenous resolution and on-screen keyboard with buttons. It includes shift, tab, esc, alt, ctrl, and the Windows key.

The app looks very straightforward, offering direct access to your desktop PC given that the Remote Desktop is activated. It looks an elegant solution when you need to access an important file from your home computer.

The search giant is experimenting with a new Chrome feature that would allow you to save any piece of content such as a web page, an image or an email. Google named the new service as ‘Google Stars’ and it appears to be in its very early stage. The feature will let users bookmark and save different items on the web and add them to folders. Once saved to a folder, the users will be able to share and review their favorite content later.

The new feature was first discovered by Florian Kiersch – a German student who enjoys fishing Google code. Google’s new read-it-later feature may be similar to the bookmarking feature that’s available in the Chrome right now. The new feature is currently being given to Google employees only for testing. The service will include its own extension to let users save links and will also sort those links into lists and categories automatically.

Kiersch writes – Google Stars was originally named as Google Collections, and it looks more beautiful than bookmarks. Users can already star web pages and emails from Chrome but if this feature ever executed, they can even expect to see the star on YouTube videos, Google+ pages, image search results, and even personal contacts.

According to the current source code, the new feature will make all bookmarks fully searchable. The stars will remain private until made public by users to share them. The search giant will automatically organize your stars, detect spam as well as dead pages, and can categorize the content into filters by discovering the patterns. There will be a bookmark library that will allow users to make notes on their bookmarks.

Images, videos and web pages are specifically mentioned in the source code but it may include nearly all of the Google services. It looks like Google is planning to cover all things under the head ‘Stars’ and the feature is expected to launch in June during Google’s I/O developer conference.

Monday afternoon, the entire IT world got a wakeup call, when an emergency security advisory from the OpenSSL warns about an open and dangerous bug ‘Heartbleed’. The security flaw could be used to grab a portion of working memory from any server. There was an emergency patch, but in the meanwhile, many servers were exposed.

A flaw known as ‘Heartbleed’ Bug could allow attackers to gain access to even highly sensitive and protected information, including usernames, passwords, credit card numbers, and other important data. Computer security researchers and web administrators on Tuesday crawled to fix a serious vulnerability in OpenSSL encryption.

In simple words cyber criminals or hackers can use the Bug to steal your private encryption keys from server running on OpenSSL protocols. According to reports, the servers of Flickr, Imgur and Yahoo have been affected. This is around two-year-old flaw and hence no one have any idea about how many servers have been compromised and how many people have exploited.

Heartbleed.com reads, “Operating system vendors and distribution, independent software and appliance vendors have to fix as well as notify their users. Service providers and users have to install the fix as it becomes available for software, networked appliances and operating systems they use.”

The problem was discovered by a team of researchers from Codenomicon and Google Security. Their research found Yahoo, Twitter, Steam, Tumblr, GitHub, PostFinance, HypoVereinsbank, Commonwealth Bank of Australia and Regents bank are all affected by the bug. Apple, Microsoft and Google seem to be unaffected.

The researchers said that your popular social site, commerce site, hobby site, company’s site might using vulnerable OpenSSL.

When talking about the two big changes – first is the removal of lines from the search results and second is the introduction of a yellow label. This yellow label is called “Ad/Ads”, these modifications are to redesign the search pages and making them cleaner.

Design lead for Google – Jon Wiley wrote on Google+ on Wednesday that, “We’ve expanded the size of search result titles and removed the underlines as well as evened out the height of lines. The move aims at improving readability and creating a look that is clean. We’ve also introduced our latest ad labels from mobile, to make multi-device experience more exciting.”

Web users started noticing the changes in the last two days, but officially confirmed by Jon Wiley on Thursday via Google+. The lines you are used to were adopted in the 1990s, being a part of web designing ideology. But in the last few years many sites have moved away from underlining links, to make their pages look cleaner.

Along with these changes, Google has also removed that light pink background you must have noticed at the top of the search page. The search giant has increased the font size for titles and it clearly means less character appears. The new layout will feature a dark gray color, rather than black.

Some users welcome the modifications but some didn’t. According to some users – the changes will definitely improve readability while others say it’s too blurry. They say that the font size is too bigger and the search giant also failed to use the full width of the screen.

The changes also looked different on different browsers and seem to be effective on Chrome as compared to Firefox.

Hope, the changes will not make it difficult for web users to use Google….

Berners-Lee has watched the web grow through a cheerful childhood and bitter adolescence, reaching to a more serious stage. He said that it’s time to make some crucial decisions for the fate of Internet especially when it’s under attack from different authorities who think they can easily control people through web.

He said during an interview, “Our rights are being violated more and more, and the worst side is that we get used to it. We need a Bill of Rights for Internet to make things more safe, secure and genuine.” He also added, “After 25 years of contribution, we need independence of the World Wide Web for democracy.”

The recent years were not at all good due to revelations of mass surveillance by the NSA as well as other agencies. The use and stock of illegal and immoral material has grown in bulk. The Bill of Rights he is talking about is to protect freedom of speech on the Internet and rights of users after revelations about government wiretap of online activity.

The World Wide Web Consortium – a global community and Berners-Lee united with a mission to lead the web to its full potential. They have launched a campaign called ‘the Web We Want’ in order to urge people to push ‘Bill of Rights’ for every country. The founder of web is clear that our ability to associate freely and speak is under threat.

Following are the principles an Internet Bill of Rights advances:-

• The protection of user’s personal information and the right to communicate in private
• Affordable access to a globally available platform of communication
• Decentralized, diversified and open infrastructure
• Neutral networks

Berners-Lee said that unless we have an open, neutral web we cannot say anything about what’s happening at the back door. We can’t have good democracy, connected communities, good healthcare and open government until we have Bill of Rights.

Mozilla Firefox announced a project called “mozjpeg” that intents to compress JPEGs by shaving 10 percent of images. Smaller JPEG file size means Web pages load faster and users can enjoy an improved performance. This way home or office surfers can enjoy huge speed and bandwidth savings, especially to those with restricted mobile data connections.

As you probably be aware of the fact that that images, in particular JPEGs, make up the huge majority of a web page’s complete size. Text, scripts, style-sheets are the other elements but they usually account for just a small portion of the total page size. The JPEG (Joint Photographic Experts Group) file format gained popularity since 1992.

This particular compression algorithm is very popular with the web where the images play an important role apart from the text. But the fact is – it wasn’t originally designed and introduced for the wen, but due to its small file size and high quality it became so popular. In 1987 – GIFs were popular and in 1996 – PNGs were introduced as an alternative to GIFs. Despite of so many formats available for the web, JPEG’s popularity has never faded.

Version 1.0 of ‘mozjpeg’ – a fork of libjpeg-turbo with built-in Loren Merritt’s jpgcrush functionality. If users use mozjpeg to develop their images, they should be able to compress JPEG file size by a full 10% without affecting compatibility. A 10% reduction is huge especially when an average web page has near about 1MB of images on it and the figure is increasing by 2-3% every month.

This reduction could save hundreds of megabytes over a month to those who use their Smartphones for surfing websites. In order to make this concept a reality, image editors such as Gimp, Fireworks and Photoshop required to tool this new mozjpeg library. Implementing this new library will take time, but it’s much more effective and realistic than getting every web browser to support an alternate image standard like WebP.

We believe that JPEG will continue to gain popularity, but of course improvements are very much required at this stage of technology.

SlickLogin is a start-up behind the technology that allows websites to authenticate a user’s identity by using sound waves. The technology works by playing an individually generated, nearly-silent sound from computer speakers. The sound is picked up by an app on the Smartphone used by the person. The app analyzes the sound and transmit a signal back to verify the identity.

The sound-based password technology can be used either as a substitute for a password or an additional security layer. Instead of forcing users to insert in a long code, the firm sends the verification information through sound waves. The acquisition was confirmed by SlickLogin on its website on Sunday but no financial details were disclosed.

The firm announced the acquisition with the statement that, “Today we’re announcing that the SlickLogin team is joining Google, a platform that shares our core beliefs that logging in should be easy instead of frustrating, and verification should be effective.” One of the three founders, Xinhua also stated that , “We couldn’t be more excited to join their efforts.”

SlickLogin launched just five months ago at TechCrunch Disrupt where the firm gave a demo of its sound-based password technology. The company’s motto is to enable end users to log-in easily into those websites which are password protected by using a uniquely generated sound.

SlickLogin hasn’t launched any commercial product, so we can say that the deal actually means an acquisition of the technology itself by Google. Today, many firms have been adopting a two-step authentication for users and the steps include matching their name and the password along with a second layer of verification.

According to the analysts, firms like bank and other government possessions were keen to use even more secure methods to protect their users against any piracy or data theft. According to them, the more individually a technology identifies the user, the safer the system would be.

IBMs cost-cutting plans, “resource actions”, reached Indian shores this week and at least a few hundred job cuts are warn of by insiders at the Big Blue’s unit. The company has already asked about 40 employees at its Systems Technology Group to resign, as per the sources. STG is well-known as IBM’s hardware division.

IBM is said to have more than 100,000 staff in India which is the largest presence of the giant outside the US. According to the Chief Financial Officer of IBM, Martin Schroeter – the hardware business, which includes mainframes, storage and servers, was facing some difficulties and would see few job cuts.

Sources in the company said that IBM had been qualified for a large job cut in April last year but the dismissals were not effected and staff was told that they wouldn’t receive any hikes in salaries till December 2013. The employees at STG who were asked to leave were also asked to return laptops within two hours, said a post.

But this was shocking that they were asked to surrender their official laptops within 2 hours and leave. The employees were told STG business has been suffering from huge financial woes and several middle level executives have resigned in the last few weeks. Last month a news also broke that the company agreed to sell its low-end server business against $2.3 billion to Lenovo.

The giant said that the data center service providers would begin offering their clients details about the Intel chips. The company wants to help customers make smart buying decisions by providing them appropriate information.

The automatically generated temporary support will not let the model falling apart and it will also make sure that it does not breakdown during printing.

Adobe is going to work with MakerBot and Shapeways in order to make the platform more advanced so that Photoshop can automatically generate previews. The previews will let the users know how a model will look when it’s made by the printer. Another feature called ‘printer-specific preview’ will also be available for 3D Systems’ Cube printer.

The 3D modeling options in Photoshop have been vastly improved in CS6, with more instinctive onscreen controls that gives ability to produce models from flat photographs, artwork, or your imagination. Other newly added features consist of a new pencil tool for Illustrator, to make drawing freehand lines and curves much easier. Typekit, font tool of Adobe, is now bringing its fonts to the desktop and InDesign is getting better with EPUB support and simplified hyperlinks.

As a part f this update, the platform is also resetting all of its Creative Cloud’s 30-days trials. Top government agencies have put vast amount of valuable personal information online, with little privacy to access. These websites are attracting criminals looking for official data and contact information of top business and political people. There’s hardly any provision to prevent the misuse and everything is open for all.

A gold mine of database, including information of Indian Citizens – some of country’s wealthiest residents, is available for misuse. A digital security expert – Binoo Thomas, at McAfee Labs said, “If I want to target someone, I have easy access to so much information that shouldn’t have been in public. I would say, hackers with good engineering skills will be able to dig out the information of any person. It’s not restricted to just celebrities, but can be anybody.”

Hackers would simply need to use Internet to get personal details of some richest people as many of them have their complete contact details. Sometimes, the database is searchable by name itself. You can search for any famous surname and there will be the complete information – contact number and resident address. Isn’t it a big loophole in security system of the country? Isn’t it a threat?

According to Indian authorities, cyber attacks on government websites in the country are increasing. Indian Computer Emergency Response Team (CERT-In) report revealed the increase – including cyber strikes on both financial and government networks. The targeted websites are used widely by the government and other industries on the subcontinent.

Identity theft – it’s has been on the rise. As the authorities have been pushed to function with more transparency, leading to misuse of data by some illegal communities. Data controllers are in violation of data protection principles. There are certain rules regarding the publication of data, but they have to be strictly followed in order to maintain a high level of privacy and security.

High-end technology – India does not have any compilation of privacy law, giving rise to cyber crime and other illegal activities. J Satyanarayana – Secretary at the department of information technology, said, “We need to think on this problem according to the drafted privacy law. Our view of privacy has been different both traditionally and culturally but we welcome a more explicit understanding of the law.” He also told that the provisions for data protection comes under Section 43A of the IT Act.

It’s high time for India to decide on a standard protocol and to decide on who shall have access to government information and who shall not. The growing threat to Indian government websites has to be checked.

The girl asked the CEO, “Mr. Thompson, don’t you want kids to be healthy so they can live a long and happy life?” She was attending the event with her mother, Kia Robertson, a noted health-food blogger who was there at the event along with a human rights group, Corporate Accountability International. The erstwhile Internet search leader Yahoo has updated its search results, refreshing the way search results are displayed on the site and adopting a Google-like navigation bar in the process. Did somebody say ‘copying’? Ouch!!

The new look Yahoo is devoid of any clutter that became characteristic of its search in the past. Meanwhile, it has started looking oh so familiar with the Google search result page, something that has become synonymous to Internet search lately.

Talking of the changes, the search results have moved way up, near the top. Yahoo branding has become smaller and there is a login button adjacent to the search bar. You would find a top navigation bar with links to Yahoo home, mail, news, Flickr and other Yahoo products. A simple web search would throw up videos, images, and news besides web pages’ links. And there are links to other services depending on what you are searching for.

For instance, a search for ace tennis player Maria Sharapova threw up links to images and videos of the Russian beauty along with links to Sharapova merchandise! The new Yahoo search page appears to be even sleeker than ever, something in line with the bevy of changes its charismatic CEO Marissa Mayer has unleashed in the past.

The latest change was declared on the recently acquired photo blogging platform Tumblr with a GIF image. As per Yahoo, “Whether you’re searching for that perfect summer vacation spot or a nearby Ethiopian restaurant, finding what you’re looking for should be fast and easy. And, we think that it can also be beautiful. Today we’re excited to introduce a new, modern design for web search in the U.S. that puts your results front and center.”

Back end changes

There have been some changes to the backend as well. As per Yahoo, these changes should help in faster load times.
